00:00The Education Ministry says it will maintain existing guidelines on donations to schools,
00:06which it added has been practiced by several past administrations.
00:11The Ministry said the Cabinet agreed to maintain the guidelines and that such contributions
00:15cannot display or promote alcohol on school premises.
00:19It also said the Cabinet agreed to give vernacular schools the consideration to accept donations
00:24through their board of directors or foundation.
00:27Police recently took issue with Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Ayman Ati Rasabu
00:32for receiving a mock cheque for RM3 million bearing Tiger Beer's logo at a fundraiser
00:37for SJKC Cermin in Sungai Pelik, Selangor.
00:41However, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kar Woah pointed out that Tiger Beer, which is
00:46owned by Heineken Malaysia Berhad, had hosted these fundraisers for 30 years and reduced
00:51Putrajaya's financial burden while enabling vernacular schools to upgrade their infrastructure.
00:57Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zayed Hamidi said there were misconceptions
01:02on the issue as the alcohol brand had only sponsored a charity concert for a fundraiser
01:07and did not directly channel any funds to the school.
