00:00When criminals are confronted by cops, most usually surrender and give themselves up,
00:04but some criminals prefer to try and run from police, but unfortunately for them,
00:09it rarely ends well. Here are three insane cases where criminals thought escape was an option.
00:15In May of 2021, 30-year-old Josie Amman allegedly followed a child in a Walmart
00:21and assaulted her when he saw the opportunity. After the attack, the child immediately told
00:26her mother who went on to confront the attacker. Josie fled the scene. Five months later,
00:32cops are called to Josie's day job to try and confront the suspected criminal.
00:43When Josie arrives, he immediately appears uncomfortable.
00:56His wide, static stance may suggest tension, and he seems to be keeping his facial expression
01:18as neutral as possible. Predictably, Josie denies all knowledge of this incident. Watch
01:23how he reacts when he's shown some hard evidence. Josie manages to keep his expression relatively
01:52neutral, even when looking at a picture of himself at the crime scene. However,
01:55when the purchase at a subway is mentioned, there's an obvious change in his body language.
02:00He begins to blink rapidly, which can be an indicator of stress or dishonesty. He does
02:06attempt to act surprised when the officer brings up that someone had used his debit card in the
02:10but the cop doesn't buy it for a second.
02:41Josie was charged with the first-degree sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13,
03:08and a misdemeanor charge for resisting an officer. He is currently awaiting trial.
03:13But not all criminals run because they're faced with hard evidence.
03:16Some just make very dumb decisions. This was the case for Jason Massey.
03:21Massey is a passenger in his friend's car, and they're pulled over for speeding. The
03:25stop seems normal initially, with the driver giving a good reason for being above the speed
03:29limit and handing over his license willingly. Things become more suspicious when dispatch lets
03:57the officer on the scene know that the license plates don't match the car. The cop has already
04:02smelled the scent of marijuana, and the plates are a big red flag, so he calls for assistance.
04:08Once they have backup, they coordinate their approach. When they reach the vehicle,
04:12pay extra attention to Massey, who's in the front of the car passenger's side.
04:27I understand you're not driving. Can I get you to step out real quick?
04:31I'll explain everything to you, okay?
04:44What's your last name, partner?
04:45All right, man. I'm just gonna put you in handcuffs real quick. You're not under arrest,
04:49okay? You're not under arrest. Don't resist me. Don't resist me, man.
04:53While once again, the driver is complying, Massey has a defensive reaction to the police officer
04:59speaking to him. He immediately says that he's not the driver. Attempts to deflect like this
05:05usually suggest a person is hiding something. The cop tries to reassure Massey that things are fine
05:11and that he doesn't have to be scared, but Massey still seems nervous. While the driver is being
05:16searched, the cop asks Massey his name. Unfortunately for Massey, he makes a very dumb mistake.
05:23All right, what's your last name?
05:30What's that?
05:31Nicholson?
05:32Can you spell it out for me, please?
05:35You got to speak up, man.
05:40Mickelson?
05:42All right, you said Mickelson. Now you're saying Mickelson.
05:45I said Mickelson.
05:46Spell it out for me.
05:47M-I-C-K-L-E-L-S-O-N.
05:50All right, last time you didn't say L. I already know you're lying. I already know you're lying.
05:54No, I said Mickelson.
05:56Hey, he's trying to run. Hey.
06:04He's taking off. He's taking off. Passenger just hopped in the driver's seat. He's taking off.
06:11Don't do it, man. You're going to get tased.
06:17Having spelled his own fake name wrong,
06:20Massey is on the run with the third occupant of the car still on the back seat.
06:24What might not be clear from the footage is that Massey is hit with a taser as he speeds away.
06:29The car doesn't get him far, as during the pursuit,
06:32Massey hits a vehicle in a gas station parking lot.
06:34The driver of that vehicle is unharmed, but because of the collision,
06:38Massey chooses to abandon the car and flee on foot.
06:41Pay attention to his path through the bushes. It'll be important soon.
06:44Outside membership. Uh, male, Hispanic driver with long curly hair.
06:49Please.
06:51Here's the grand marquis.
07:14The cop exits his vehicle and aims his firearm at Massey, who gives up his attempts to escape.
07:35When Massey mentions that he has asthma, this particular officer's response is unprofessional.
07:44Show me your hands! Get on the ground!
08:00I don't care.
08:00Most of the time that Massey is on the ground, he appears to be in pain.
08:05In this case, his discomfort seems genuine as he makes no further attempts to run.
08:10Taser probes can be seen in Massey's arm, fired into the car when he's sped away.
08:14An officer comes to check Massey's condition while another searches his bag.
08:18The bag contains marijuana and live ammunition.
08:21Cribe's got the driver detained in her squad.
08:28Where's the vehicle?
08:30You're over here.
08:38All right, man, why did you do that?
08:39Sheesh, I told you.
09:00Hey, I told you to calm down.
09:03And look what you did.
09:04You got yourself in more trouble.
09:06All over a little bit of weed.
09:09Prospect vehicle, no injuries.
09:13They were so bad.
09:15They were so bad.
09:20All right, man, you got any weapons on you?
09:22Are you injured at all?
09:24Where are you hurting?
09:29My whole body hurts, man.
09:33Where did you ditch that?
09:34Get to the location where that vehicle was struck.
09:36That's all in there.
09:37What?
09:38Hey, listen, around my neck.
09:4123 Dispatch, we are on the north side of 1405 16th Street.
09:48Or, I'm sorry, Emerson.
09:52Dick, she lived right around the corner.
09:55All right, we could also use another squad to check the area he ran
09:59because he probably threw something.
10:03Can y'all help me?
10:0333 is on her way there to help track.
10:05OK, I did get him, actually.
10:07You did?
10:08There's one in my arm, too.
10:10At this point, Massey finally gives the cops his real name.
10:13An officer asks Massey why he would run away when the situation was calm.
10:17Do you know where he is yet?
10:19No.
10:19Do you have an ID anywhere?
10:20He said, what's the address you're out with?
10:23Jesse what?
10:23Jason.
10:24Jason?
10:25Jason what?
10:26Jason Massey?
10:28All right, so this Mickelson car you're giving me is BS.
10:31What's your last name?
10:32Massey.
10:33Spell it out for me.
10:36I think that...
10:42What's your first name?
10:44Jason?
10:45J-A-S-O-N?
10:50I think that was the female on the car.
10:51On the show?
10:52Yeah, it was.
10:52While he says it's because he lives in Georgia rather than locally,
10:56dispatch has the real answer.
10:58All we're going to have you do is step out and you pull this dumb crap.
11:03You make it so much worse for yourself.
11:04I don't get it.
11:05I literally asked you.
11:06I said, everything's calm.
11:06Can I tell you the truth officer?
11:09That would be refreshing.
11:10I'm not from out here.
11:11It's just...
11:12Are you from Illinois?
11:13I'm from Georgia.
11:14You're from Georgia?
11:15I'm from here, but I live in Georgia.
11:17What's your ID?
11:17I don't have an ID.
11:18I really don't.
11:19Have you ever been arrested in Wisconsin?
11:20I just got out.
11:23Massey has a felony 99 for armed robbery out of Racine County Sheriff.
11:29It was entered on 9-7 of 2021.
11:32He does come back with a Racine address listed 203-16 Boulevard.
11:40During a search of the area,
11:41police found a firearm in the bushes that Massey had passed through on foot.
11:45While the driver only received citations
11:47and the female passenger denied all knowledge and was released,
11:51things were much worse for Massey.
11:53Massey pled guilty to fleeing and eluding an officer,
11:56hit and run,
11:56carrying a concealed weapon,
11:58and one count of bail jumping.
12:00He was sentenced to three and a half years in jail
12:02and will serve an additional four years for the armed robbery.
12:06Massey may have made an idiotic mistake,
12:08but this next suspect makes him look like a genius by comparison.
12:12The next suspect is 30-year-old criminal Anthony T. Gaines,
12:15but what he doesn't realize is that these officers already know who he is.
12:20What happens next might be the strangest encounter ever caught on a body cam.
12:25So they actually didn't let you in to charge it?
12:36No, it's right there on the outside of the house.
12:38Oh, so you left it there?
12:39I left it right here. I didn't go that far.
12:42I just went like two percent.
12:43Okay, I didn't know you charged on the outside on the porch.
12:46Yeah, I never went inside their house at all.
12:48I never went and bathed their house at all.
12:50I would never charge.
12:51Okay, so you left it there and came back and went there?
12:53No, I can't.
12:54Yeah, right.
12:54Right, don't start short.
12:56Don't charge my phone up.
12:58Sit on top of the grill.
12:59You cannot.
13:02Look, sit on top of the grill.
13:04I go to the side of the house.
13:05They have a chair on the side of the house.
13:07I sit right there.
13:08Neighbors moving across the street.
13:10So it's in California where I can see in the angle.
13:12You got these loud a** little midget a** dogs that barking at people.
13:15So I know when somebody come up, the dogs gonna start barking.
13:19So when the dogs started barking, I'm looking.
13:20I'm like, what the f*** is that?
13:22Y'all need somebody over?
13:23Because I'm looking California.
13:25So you ain't got your phone, right?
13:26No, they got my phone.
13:27Okay, all right.
13:28Let me get him.
13:28Y'all just hand tight.
13:29Let me get him a call real quick.
13:30That's why I kept on calling the lady to try to get my phone back.
13:34So then they like take it and put it inside?
13:36Yeah, and they took.
13:36Yeah, how you gonna get it off the charger?
13:38They try to say they don't got it.
13:40How old are these kids?
13:41How old are these kids?
13:42I don't know.
13:43About?
13:43It ain't got to be exact.
13:44I don't know.
13:45Okay, all right.
13:46One dude is old.
13:47One.
13:48One.
13:48One of them.
13:49Whoever the gay one is.
13:51Is he sweet as s***?
13:52Whoever the sweet one is, he the oldest one.
13:53And then, uh, then it's not.
13:56It's two oldest ones.
13:57Well, let me get him a call and see what's...
13:58Okay, all right.
14:00While Gaines may seem relaxed,
14:02Gaines' overly familiar behavior can be a telltale sign that he has something to hide.
14:07The cuffs present are already aware that there's a warrant out for his arrest.
14:11They make their move.
14:13Hey, come here real quick.
14:14Step out, step out.
14:15Yeah, I actually just said, man, just...
14:16Hey, just turn around.
14:17I'm about to detain you right now.
14:18You're not, you're not arrested.
14:19You're not being under arrest.
14:20No, no, no.
14:21Just until we find out everything that's going on.
14:24Um, I didn't want to do it in front of them.
14:27Huh?
14:28I said, I didn't want to do it in front of them.
14:29Right.
14:30That's why we're trying to...
14:31Let's see what we're saying.
14:32We'll just set you in my vehicle until you're A, C, and E.
14:34I didn't, I didn't lock those.
14:41He's not arrested.
14:42He's just being detained until we...
14:43Hey, let me grab his phone.
14:45With Gaines cuffed,
14:46one officer searches him and retrieves what looks to be the case for a ring from his pocket.
14:51The other officer opens it and finds incriminating evidence inside.
14:55Gaines tries to play dumb, but the lie is obvious.
14:59Hey, get home.
15:00Get out of my home.
15:00My money right there.
15:01Where?
15:02Right there in that bag.
15:03Okay, all right.
15:04Make sure y'all get my money.
15:06Where's your money at?
15:07In your belt bag.
15:08Yeah.
15:11You open this already?
15:12What's up?
15:13No, I didn't.
15:13Okay, yeah.
15:14Yeah, you know, you know what it is.
15:16Oh, you know what it is when it's in your pocket, man.
15:19Just want to know.
15:23Gaines makes the questionable decision to make a run for it while cuffed.
15:28The rest of this encounter is nothing short of insanity.
15:31It's in your pocket.
15:33It's all right, it's all right, it's all right.
15:37We got one running.
15:38He's under arrest, so I'm going to get him.
15:46Ah, he killed me.
15:54We got body cameras on.
15:56You scream all you want to.
15:57We got body cameras on.
15:58You shot me.
15:59And you shot me.
16:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:12For context, this arrest happened after the death of George Floyd
16:16and the Black Lives Matter protests.
16:18As the officer mentions, this wasn't his first time seeing this kind of behavior,
16:21which suggests that the offenders were trying to use
16:24the politically charged climate to their advantage, too.
16:27Gaines tries to pull this stunt for more than 30 minutes,
16:30but the act breaks for a moment when the arresting officer has a laugh at his expense.
16:34Okay, let's go, let's get him.
16:35Yeah.
16:36I'm holding my heart.
16:37I got heart surgery, bro.
16:38All right.
16:38So you got a few charges now, okay?
16:43That's all right, we can get him.
16:45I ain't lying, look at my chest, bro.
16:46I see, you shouldn't have ran.
16:48You shouldn't have ran.
16:50You can act like you're going to pass out all you want.
16:52I've seen this before.
16:54I've seen this before.
16:58Okay.
17:00Turn me over, bro.
17:01Turn me over.
17:01Stop coming at me, Steve.
17:03Yeah.
17:03I think you can run, cuz.
17:05Shut up.
17:13Ow!
17:15Ow, my head, bro.
17:20You know I ain't lying, bro.
17:21I ain't do none of that s**t, bro.
17:24Don't do it, bro.
17:24I'm gonna cramp.
17:25I'm gonna come up, bro.
17:26All right, all right.
17:26You just banged my head, bro.
17:28All right, stand up, please.
17:29F**k!
17:30Nigga banged my head right down that metal s**t, bro.
17:33Come on, stand up.
17:34Don't make any harder than it is.
17:35Now that he's committed to the act,
17:37Gaines starts demanding an ambulance,
17:39and at every opportunity does whatever he can to make cops appear abusive.
17:44Don't make it any harder than it is.
17:45Come on, stand up.
17:46I ain't making it harder than it is.
17:47You just whooped my a** on that motherf**king pole, dog.
17:49We're gonna help you stand up, okay?
17:51No, bro, you just...
17:53Dog, give me an ambulance.
17:54Dog, give me an ambulance.
17:55Stand up.
17:55We gotta get in the car, bro.
17:56I already called for the ambulance, bro.
17:57Get in the car.
17:58That ain't two stages, bro.
17:59Y'all breaking the KRS code, Zane.
18:01Come on.
18:02Get the f**k out.
18:02Come on, we got you, man.
18:03We got you.
18:04Get the f**k out, bro.
18:05Stand up.
18:06I don't feel right.
18:07Okay.
18:08I need some water.
18:09All right.
18:09Well, stand up.
18:11You gotta get in the car first.
18:12No, I don't.
18:13Come on.
18:14I know where the ambulance is and the KRS code is, man.
18:16My mom worked for the system, man.
18:17Get in the car.
18:18I've been inside that juvenile system for too long.
18:19Go ahead.
18:20No, no, no.
18:20We're trying to pick you up, man.
18:21We're gonna take you down here, okay?
18:23Stand up, please.
18:24I can't.
18:25Y'all already banged my head.
18:27You don't stand on your head.
18:28Vivo, call my lawyer.
18:30Call my mom.
18:31Stand up.
18:32I know she is.
18:33Yeah, she works for the system.
18:34Don't worry about it.
18:35She works for the courthouse.
18:35Watch out.
18:36Okay, please stand up.
18:37Please stand up so we can have you in the car.
18:38No, we think you're too far.
18:39Get your ass off of me.
18:40Come on.
18:40Aah!
18:43Aah, you're hit!
18:47Aah, I'm hit!
18:48Divo!
18:49Recording!
18:49Divo!
18:50Aah!
18:52Divo!
18:52You got a gun?
18:55Aah!
18:56Oh, shit!
19:01Aah!
19:02You all right?
19:04Sorry, it's okay.
19:09Come on.
19:11Nope.
19:12Ahhhhh!
19:13Ahhhh!
19:14Ahhhh!
19:15Come on.
19:16Ahhhh!
19:17Who won't get in?
19:18Ahhhh!
19:19Someone must have come.
19:20No, he pushed his way out.
19:21Ahhhh!
19:22You just stay over there.
19:23Stay over there.
19:24Mama!
19:25What?
19:26Mama!
19:27Someone must have come.
19:28Mama!
19:29We got body cameras.
19:30You didn't go to a f***** body cameras hotel!
19:31Again, trying to appear a victim, Gaines makes a final attempt at persuading the cops.
20:11The suspect intends the police closed his head in the door of their patrol car, but
20:32he stops faking it briefly to yell at an officer.
20:35He then claims to have a pacemaker, briefly fakes passing out, and acts like the police
20:40are breaking every bone in his body.
21:10He then claims to have a pacemaker, briefly fakes passing out, and acts like the police
21:17are breaking every bone in his body.
21:20He then claims to have a pacemaker, briefly fakes passing out, and acts like the police
21:29are breaking every bone in his body.
21:32Cops catch him smiling when they agree to bring an ambulance, so he threatens a lawsuit,
21:46alludes to there being consequences if he dies in police custody, and claims to have
21:51history with one cop.
22:21While Gaines continues making a scene, two officers search his belongings.
22:36John admits to his mistake when Gaines was first cuffed.
23:06While one of the cops feels certain Gaines will have a weapon, they don't find one among
23:34his belongings.
24:01Twenty-seven minutes into the encounter, and Gaines is still lying on the floor, even
24:05though the ambulance he requested has arrived.
24:07A member of his family arrives and attempts to talk some sense into him.
24:10But he seems confident that his mother will set him straight.
24:25The
24:53paramedics on site are also unable to convince Gaines to comply, although Gaines is more
24:58than happy to repeat his list of complaints to the ambulance crew.
25:18As a result of this arrest, Gaines was charged with third-degree assault of a police officer,
25:42second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, and possession of meth.
25:46Shockingly, in early 2022, Anthony Gaines was again arrested and charged with two counts
25:52of murder, robbery, burglary, tampering with evidence, and four counts of wonton endangerment.
25:58The outcome of the trial is yet to be determined.
