00:00Cops have to deal with all sorts of violent and dangerous criminals every day, but what happens when it's their very own family
00:06They have to arrest
00:11This is officer Kovac a policeman who didn't approve of his daughter's relationship with 18 year old Mekhi Coleman
00:19After tracing his daughter's laptop to the residence. He spotted Mekhi's car driving by and decided to pull it over
00:26You can get out
00:28You're going to jail
00:30Get out
00:33We'll make shit up as we go
00:35It's immediately clear that this isn't a normal police interaction that last phrase
00:40We'll make it up as we go is obviously unprofessional and quite scary, too
00:45Officer Kovac has a personal and emotional connection to this case and has even made an unlawful traffic stop because of it
00:52Even if he did have a valid reason to pull Mekhi over
00:55He should have radioed for another officer to handle the stop, but instead he's taking things into his own hands
01:12The passenger side door opening means someone is still in the vehicle and it turns out to be another of his daughter's friends
01:19But she's still nowhere to be seen
01:26I was advising a white female in a blue jeep to burn them with a gun
01:30Does your dad know my daughter's in your house?
01:34Conveniently Kovac managed to pull them over right next to the friend's house
01:38So he decided to have a chat with the mother after remembering his daughter's laptop also showed her inside of this house
01:44Why is her computer there?
01:46Where would your daughter be in my house?
01:48I don't know, so if I check and you're lying to me you're going to jail
01:50You would check and I'm not lying to you
01:53She's getting a ticket because she wasn't wearing her seatbelt
01:55So that's going to cost her $20
01:59That's fine, I will
02:02The woman politely invites Kovac to search her home despite having no legal obligation to
02:07He tells her that because her daughter wasn't wearing a seatbelt
02:10He's going to write them a ticket for $200 causing the woman to revoke her consent to search
02:15It's becoming clear just how much he's willing to abuse his power to solve his own personal issues
02:20So the woman decides to speak up
02:34Realizing exactly what's going on the girl's mother reminds officer Kovac that what he's doing is both
02:39Unprofessional and illegal but in a scramble to prevent the woman from calling his colleagues to the scene
02:45He decides to let her daughter go without a ticket before discovering something nobody could predict
02:55I didn't even see you, get out of the car
02:59Get in my car
03:01But why?
03:02Go ahead, you guys are good, ma'am they can go with you
03:05The officer's daughter Caitlin had been hiding inside McKay's car the entire time
03:10Obviously terrified of what her father might do to her and her friends
03:14It turns out her fear wasn't unfounded
03:17As he proceeds to essentially kidnap his own daughter by forcing her into his vehicle
03:22Get in my car
03:25Goodbye
03:26You can't, you can't take me, I am 18
03:29You have to give me a reason, by law
03:31Why are you pushing me?
03:33Why are you doing this?
03:35Why are you doing this?
03:37Caitlin!
03:38Knock it off!
03:39You don't like me!
03:41Why are you doing this?
03:44I am an adult!
03:45Get in the car, let's go to the hospital
03:47She said she was going to kill herself
03:49No I didn't!
03:52Caitlin is essentially being kidnapped here
03:55She's broken no laws and is legally an adult
03:58Meaning she can stay or go with anyone she wants
04:01But despite that, he tells her that she has to come with him to the hospital
04:05As she needs a psychological evaluation
04:08There's no need to point out just how badly Officer Kovac handled the entire situation
04:13Internal Affairs did that for us
04:15It was quickly concluded that Kovac acted illegally and irresponsibly
04:19During the entire interaction, Kovac was listed as an available unit
04:24And was called to a domestic abuse case, but he never responded
04:28Officer John Kovac was later fired from the police department for his unprofessional behavior
04:33But it's not only police officers that can be protective parents though
04:36Take this example from Vermont
04:38When a 52 year old father tried using an excavator
04:41To attack the officers that were arresting his own kid
04:56What you're watching is essentially two people threatening each other with deadly weapons
05:01The cops are in an extremely tough position here
05:04They have to keep control of the detained suspect
05:07While also talking down his father
05:09All while in a life or death situation
05:29Unfortunately, this is where the footage ends
05:32However, you can make out the radio dispatcher informing other officers of a 10-10 at the address
05:38A 10-10 is a fight in progress
05:40And more units are quickly dispatched to help these two officers take control of the situation
05:45And take the entire family into custody
05:47The son was arrested on charges of burglary and assault
05:50While the father was also taken into custody and arrested
05:53In both of these cases so far, a cop's family member hasn't been directly arrested
05:59But this next case shows what happens when a cop has to arrest his own daughter for a DUI
06:08On the 28th of December 2022
06:10A witness had observed a white vehicle strike a traffic light and then quickly drive off
06:15A part of the vehicle's bumper had fallen off in the road after the hit
06:19Around 15 minutes after the call
06:21Police located the suspect's vehicle at a gas station across the road
06:25The driver was the last person they expected
06:42The very thing 21-year-old Teresa says is that her dad is an officer with the local PD
06:48Possibly hoping that he'd come and get her out of the situation
06:51But the cops at the scene are sure that things are way past that
06:55You left Applebee's?
06:56Yeah, I left Applebee's
06:57You cut through the plaza, you came up by Lowe's and Chick-fil-A
07:01Did you hit the traffic pole that's right there?
07:03No, I did not hit the traffic pole
07:05This part was hanging off already
07:07I hit a deer in Pennsylvania because I go to school in California
07:11Do you smoke marijuana recreationally?
07:13No, I do not smoke marijuana universally
07:16Universally smoking marijuana isn't the only part of her story that doesn't make any sense
07:22She's saying that her bumper was already hanging off from an accident in Pennsylvania around 25 miles away
07:28And it just happened to fall off right as another car identical to hers struck a traffic light
07:34But Teresa has a trick up her sleeve that might just get her out of this
07:38At least, that's what she hopes
07:41I hit a deer
07:43You see this?
07:44I hit a deer before this
07:46You can ask my dad
07:47This piece fell off at the traffic light that you hit
07:49That you knocked over
07:51670, do you have another unit out with you?
07:53Can you call my dad? He's the sheriff's officer
07:55Alright, hang out
07:56Over the course of just a few minutes, Teresa brings up her dad over five times
08:01Obviously praying that he'll be able to find a way for her to get out of this
08:04But before he can come to rescue her, the cops are starting to zero in on what really happened
08:10And begin to get at least some of the truth from Teresa
08:13Did you drive away because you're scared because you had maybe had one drink and you think you're drunk?
08:16Yeah
08:17And you might get arrested but you don't seem like you're drunk?
08:19Yes
08:20Can you tell the truth?
08:21Yes, I'm telling you the truth
08:22So after Applebee's, did you hit a traffic pole?
08:24You can't miss it, it lights up, it's red, green, and yellow
08:26I hit a curb
08:28You hit a traffic signal
08:29No, I hit a curb
08:31Yeah, you went up the curb, you hit the traffic signal, the traffic signal fell down, and you left
08:35I was texting
08:37Can you call my dad? He would tell you
08:39Well, here's the thing
08:41Your dad, the sheriff's officer, wasn't driving your vehicle today
08:43In just this one short conversation, Teresa admits that she did hit something
08:48That she's more intoxicated than they realized
08:50And that she was texting while driving
08:53Three driving faults that can each come with their own punishment
08:57So now that the truth has come out, the detectives decide to speak with her father, John
09:02But it turns out, he's not there to help her
09:05Sheriff's officer, what's going on?
09:07Hey John, how are you?
09:08So your daughter is hitting a traffic pole
09:11I missed it
09:13I'm gonna go back and check
09:14I'll get you here
09:15Okay
09:17Where's the damage on the car?
09:19Okay, the damage on that car there, I think it was like the front right bumper
09:27John explains that Teresa did hit a deer earlier
09:30And that the damage was on the front right bumper
09:32But it was nowhere near as serious as the damage the car was currently sustaining
09:36Can I come out? Are you guys out there?
09:38That's up to you, I'll see if she wants you to come out
09:40If she wants, you know, you to drive her home
09:43Yeah, I appreciate it, let me come out there and then I'll see you guys
09:47Can you help me? Thank you
09:48Okay, alright, sounds good
09:49It looks like Teresa isn't going to be getting the salvation she was hoping for from her dad
09:54And just five minutes later, he arrives at the scene to talk with the cops
09:59What's up?
10:00So, what she's saying, like, and where the damage was there, it doesn't really make too much sense
10:05So I tried to get some more information out of her, but
10:08And then that piece of bumper there
10:10So, for the other one, was it just like, the bumper wasn't hanging like that?
10:13Yeah, no, so what it was is, basically, this was intact
10:18Okay
10:19This piece was missing, the scratches here
10:22Those were all from?
10:23That's all from a deer that she lost
10:29So right now, this is going to be my call
10:31Okay
10:32Okay, gotcha
10:33We're going to be providing all the details
10:35Okay, who's your supervisor?
10:36Sorry, who's my supervisor?
10:37Not that one, who?
10:38I got you
10:39Just ask him
10:40The cops who were first at the scene almost seem as though they're expecting John to try and make excuses for his daughter
10:45And get extra nervous when he asks who their supervisor is
10:48Obviously, there are countless examples of corruption where officers, especially those in the higher ranks
10:53Are able to use their power to prevent their family from getting into trouble
10:57However, the officers quickly realize all he's trying to do is gather all the information on the incident
11:02So he can make a fair assessment himself
11:05But it quickly becomes evident as he checks his text messages from her to try and create a timeline of events
11:10I just want to show you this so you can see it
11:12You hold 1039
11:14Who do you think that initial call came from?
11:17Because she probably hit it and was like, dad, what the fuck do I do?
11:21Somewhere between 1045 and 11
11:24Well, that's about right
11:26When we were talking to her, she wasn't telling us what to do at all
11:29I mean, lying to her, she knows that I'm a cop
11:31She knows not to do that
11:33Maybe she didn't even... I'm not lying
11:35I'm saying she didn't lie
11:37I want to be very clear about that
11:39She might not even look at the freaking card to see if there's any difference
11:41However, despite John's willingness to help the officers out
11:44The sergeant at the scene asks him not to get involved
11:47So to guarantee the integrity of the investigation
11:50So far, everything other than Teresa's conduct has been perfect
11:54And is a great example of proper policing
11:57So, it's back to focusing on what Teresa had mentioned earlier
12:00She says she'd only had one drink at Applebee's
12:02But it's starting to seem as though she may be a little more drunk than they realize
12:07Suspicions that were only confirmed after some field sobriety tests
12:12And everything that happened tonight, I don't think that you were okay to take me out here
12:18Dad, dad, dad
12:21Where's my dad?
12:23Oh, your dad's right over here
12:26Dad
12:31You need to stop with this shit
12:33Get in the car
12:35You're arrested for DUI
12:37Have a seat
12:41After being forced into the police vehicle by her own dad
12:44Teresa was driven to the police station where her blood alcohol level was tested
12:48It came back as .17%
12:51Over twice the legal limit
12:53Prior to this upload, Teresa is still awaiting her penalty
12:56But has been issued a court summons for driving under the influence
12:59Reckless driving and failure to report a car accident
13:03Teresa's dad followed protocol perfectly
13:05But what happens when instead of the dad being called to handle his daughter
13:09It's the daughter who calls the cops on her own dad
13:12Well, that's exactly what happened on the 24th of March, 2023
13:16When officers were called to a domestic violence case
13:19That turned out to be nothing like they expected
13:24What's he doing?
13:29Can you put the dog in the room for me?
13:31Alright, who called?
13:33Me
13:34You did?
13:35Yeah, sure I did
13:36Alright, what's going on?
13:37The woman who answered the door tells the police
13:39That she had an argument with her father where he threatened to punch her
13:43And she just wants her parents to listen to her
13:45And take responsibility for the issues in her childhood
13:48The responding officer immediately realizes he's in for a rough one
13:52When did he threaten to punch you?
13:53Well, treat me the way he treated me
13:55Hey, are you talking to me or are you talking to me?
13:58No, I'm not talking to you
13:59You don't talk to me, you don't make a face
14:01What I'm saying though is you need to be talking to me
14:03I have never once called the cops on someone before
14:05And this is the first time and he f***ing deserves it
14:08Okay, well he's going to go talk to him, separate
14:10No, not without me
14:11Okay, do you want us to conduct an investigation or not?
14:13In this time, the cops take her father into a separate room
14:16Where he explains that his daughter had been screaming at him all day
14:20Apparently she was blaming him and his wife for decisions she made
14:24And he was getting tired of the problems she's causing them
14:27Despite the toxicity of the situation, things stayed calm
14:30At least until the cops found a marijuana pipe in the daughter's bag
14:34You have a pipe in there that's commonly used to smoke marijuana
14:36Why don't you take this?
14:37As well as the wrapping papers
14:39Well, it's not your purse, you don't have the right to get in there
14:42Okay, it's called plain view
14:43Go the f***ing way
14:44Plain view, turn around
14:45Blah, blah, f***, blah
14:47Turn around, put your hands behind your back
14:48I was trying to
14:49Turn around, put your hands behind your back
14:51You're going to be under arrest for obstructing if you do not comply
14:53Stand up
14:54F*** off, you prick
14:58Ow, ow, that's my kick, you f***
15:00No, that's right
15:02No, no
15:03Ow, ow
15:04Get on my back, get on my back
15:06Give me your hand, stop resisting
15:08It was a f***ing conversation
15:09Simple
15:10He started threatening me, punching me, and I thought I had to tell you guys
15:13Okay
15:14In the scuffle, the woman intentionally kicked one of the officers
15:17and resisted the arrest
15:19The cops also searched her bag and found a myriad of intoxicants and illegal drugs
15:24So, they read her her rights and took her out to the patrol vehicle
15:27Back inside the house though, things are only getting weirder
15:31The officer hears a sound coming from the bathroom and decides to investigate further
15:35It happened back there, something fell down back there
15:37Probably Christine in the bathroom
15:40Who's Christine?
15:41A friend of Janet's
15:43Is she allowed to be here?
15:44Yeah
15:45It's kind of odd that she stayed in the bathroom the whole time
15:47Does she have warrants?
15:48I don't know
15:49Hey Christine
15:50Yeah
15:51I need you to come out here for a sec
15:52Unsurprisingly, the mysterious woman hiding from the cops in the bedroom
15:56turned out to have warrants out for her arrest and was also put in cuffs
16:00The woman's parents explain that their daughter has been troubled for a long time
16:04and has serious trauma from when she was younger
16:07They tell the police that she's currently in therapy for it
16:10which might have brought it to the front of her mind
16:12and caused the aggressive nature towards them
16:14but they never mention what the issues are
16:17Nevertheless, the woman was charged with possession of illegal drugs and resisting arrest
16:22The parents weren't charged with anything
16:24meaning their daughter's call completely backfired on her
16:27Drawing from what we know, it seems that the parents were mostly in the right here
16:31and had just been dealt a bad hand
16:34Things are completely different for Bruce Adams though
16:37a father who decided to take matters into his own hands
16:40when his son was arrested by abusing his power as a county commissioner
16:44Tell me who I call to find out why he's in jail
16:47You want me to sue the son of a county sheriff?
16:50In November 2022, Kenneth Adams was pulled over for running a stop sign
16:55but as it turns out, Kenneth was in much more trouble than he realized
16:59How's it going?
17:00Good, what did I do wrong?
17:01So the reason I stopped you, you didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign?
17:03I did
17:04And then you didn't have your turn signal on
17:06I sure did
17:07I know for a fact I had my turn signal on
17:09That's why I was surprised you were pulling me over
17:11The officer then took his license and ran it through the system
17:14where he would discover Kenneth had a warrant out for burglary and theft of a vehicle
17:18All of a sudden, Kenneth becomes defensive and refuses to exit the vehicle
17:23Can I get you to step out of the vehicle with me?
17:25What are you doing? No, what's going on? Seriously, what's going on?
17:28You have a warrant
17:29How do I have a warrant?
17:31I don't know how you have a warrant, but it's on our system right now
17:34You have an active warrant out of 7th District Court here in San Juan
17:36I've gone to... No, that's incorrect
17:38Well, it's on our system right now
17:40I'm not going to argue with you about it
17:42You're going to go to jail tonight on that warrant, okay?
17:44No, I'm not
17:45Dude, this is absurd
17:46Mr. Adams, you do have an active warrant for your arrest
17:49And who issued the warrant, though?
17:51The courts have issued it
17:53For what, though?
17:54Because I've gone to court for everything
17:55There should not be an active warrant for me anywhere, dude
17:57Kenneth claims that he's already been to court for his previous crimes
18:00but the warrant still calls for his arrest
18:03In the majority of smaller cases, the suspect is tasked with turning in the documents
18:07that prove that they've been to court
18:09and completing any classes they were made to attend by the judge
18:12Without those documents, the court cannot confirm they attended anything
18:16So when Kenneth forgot to turn his in, the warrant remained open
18:20and the police had no way to tell that he had, in fact, been to court
18:24Issued October 13th
18:25For what?
18:26It has some felony charges, burglary charges
18:28Dude, I've been to court for that
18:30No, no, I've been to court for that
18:32You have charges?
18:33Yeah, I do
18:34So it has two burglary charges listed, a theft charge
18:37That's on my old case
18:39Three charges of burglary of a vehicle and criminal trespass
18:42Yeah, why is that floating up now?
18:44Kenneth was taken away to the station
18:46but this is when his father, Bruce Adams, turned up
18:49who turned out to be the county commissioner for the local area
18:52How convenient for Kenneth
18:54Immediately after arriving at the scene, Bruce demanded to know what was going on
18:58and quickly started to show signs of corruption
19:01Where's Kenneth?
19:02He's in jail
19:03They took him
19:04You already took him to jail?
19:05They took him to jail and I stayed here with the car
19:07Why?
19:08For a warrant
19:09Who do I call to find out?
19:10To find out the warrant?
19:11You're a police officer
19:12Tell me who I call to find out why he's in jail
19:15I gotta be careful with this stuff, Bruce, you understand that
19:18Okay
19:19That's the warrant
19:20Okay, so it says warrant status active
19:23Offense, burglary, burglary, theft, criminal mischief
19:26Burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a vehicle
19:28He's already been to court over that
19:31You saw the warrant right there
19:33I showed you the warrant
19:34He's been charged with that and he has a plea in abeyance on all of it
19:38What do you want me to do?
19:39I want you to turn him loose
19:40I can't turn him loose, Bruce
19:42Who can?
19:43Nobody can
19:44He's been arrested for a warrant
19:45The courts can
19:46And the warrant's false
19:47Huh?
19:48The warrant's not false
19:49You want me to sue the son of a county sheriff
19:52because he arrested my kid on a false warrant?
19:55The warrant's right there
19:56Bruce is obviously trying to abuse his position
19:59and influence the commissioner to try and save his son from the law
20:02But luckily, this officer stands his ground
20:05and refuses to cave in
20:07Eventually though, Kenneth was released from jail
20:09the warrant was withdrawn
20:11and no further action was taken against Bruce
