00:00It is deadline day in Major League Baseball, 6 p.m. Eastern time, less than 10 hours away.
00:10That is the official trade deadline in MLB, your team's final chance to either sell and
00:16look forward to the future or buy, buy, buy, not a best bet, but buy, buy, buy to bolster
00:23the roster to make a move in the playoff contention and a deep run in October.
00:29We expect to see a flurry of maneuvers on this Tuesday trade deadline day, but in the
00:35last few days and over the weekend, DRS, we have seen some moves around the bigs.
00:40Yesterday, the big deal, a three-team trade between the Dodgers, Cardinals, and White
00:45Sox.
00:46The White Sox selling, of course, now riding a 15-game losing skid.
00:50Eric Fetty and Tommy Pham make their way to St. Louis.
00:54Michael Kopik, some bullpen bolstering for the Dodgers, makes his way to L.A.
01:01Tommy Edmond also going to Los Angeles, and in return, the White Sox acquire a bunch of
01:07young talent.
01:08How about that?
01:09PTBNL, a player to be named later, makes its way on the graphic as well.
01:14Yeah, but we're taking a look at some of these, and it's a shame that we're leading off with
01:18these type of deals because what we wanted out of the Dodgers was absolute fireworks
01:24and blockbuster moves.
01:25Now, having said that, we still are looking forward to a day that could have some of those
01:28fireworks a little bit later.
01:30But if you're asking me, and for the past three weeks, what we were looking forward
01:34to, let's just say the Dodgers, because they did come up in this deal, they didn't get
01:37anybody.
01:38Like Michael Kopik, the average player, Tommy Edmond, who even knows if he's going to play
01:41just like a bench guy at this point.
01:43So it's interesting to see to me because I expected the Dodgers to say, we have more
01:47money and more prospects than anybody.
01:48We are going to overflow baseball where people are going to be screaming, crying by the time
01:52you wake up on Wednesday morning by saying, it's not fair.
01:55The Dodgers just won the World Series.
01:57That's what I'm waiting for at this point.
01:58So when I analyze this deal, I don't think anybody got better.
02:01And I'm quite frankly sure why these deals even went down other than just to move players
02:05off of the White Sox at this point.
02:07Yeah, I think that's a pretty fair assessment.
02:09All right.
02:10So some more pre-deadline deals yesterday that maybe moved the needle more for DRS.
02:16The Braves acquiring Jorge Soler from the San Francisco Giants.
02:22The Braves traded for him at the deadline in 2021.
02:25They went on to win the World Series that year and Soler won the World Series MVP hardware.
02:31The Houston Astros acquiring Yusei Kikuchi from the Toronto Blue Jays.
02:35As we shared, Milwaukee adds Frankie Montes, who of course spent most of his career in
02:40Oakland was pretty solid, at least as a strikeout guy with the A's, a plus five ERA this year
02:48so far with Cincinnati.
02:50The Mariners add a bat in Justin Turner.
02:52The Dodgers reacquire Ahmed Rosario, who they traded for at the trade deadline a season
02:58ago as well.
02:59Yeah.
03:00Some of these deals, no-brainers though.
03:01So I like these much more than the first deals that we talked about.
03:03The Braves getting Jorge Soler, it's going to change the landscape of the National League
03:07or National League East?
03:08No, it's not.
03:09But what did the Braves need?
03:10They needed some hitting.
03:11And they got a guy that's done quite a bit of hitting in Atlanta.
03:13Love that move.
03:14Yusei Kikuchi, you might say to yourself, this isn't a deal that's going to make the
03:18Houston Astros legitimate title contenders just on that one move alone.
03:22But you've got to get to the playoffs here if you're fighting with a couple teams in
03:25the AOS.
03:26Kikuchi's going to be that guy who's going to eat innings and give you solid starts.
03:28You can't just have guys on the day-to-day base like, who is this guy?
03:31Who did they bring up now?
03:32At least you have a veteran presence, and that move made a lot of sense for the Houston
03:36Astros.
03:37Montas for the Brewers.
03:38You might also look at them like, what does that actually do?
03:40Have you noticed the Brewers' rotation here?
03:42Each and every day, it seems like they're getting more and more injured here.
03:44You need somebody who just is able to get those innings for you, and Montas will provide
03:49that.
03:50Maybe my favorite move today, the Guardians.
03:51I told you yesterday, we need some bats here.
03:53We need to get some foundational talent in that lineup.
03:55Lane Thomas is a really good player, one of the guys that I've bet quite a few times on
03:59the Nationals this year.
04:00That move just makes sense.
04:01And the Mariners, you might look at it and say, well, Justin Turner is fried at this
04:04point.
04:05Anything you get out of him for the Mariners is a positive.
04:08The Mariners are going for just adding bats in that lineup that might be able to give
04:12you some help.
04:13I mean, from the Madras era to the Dodgers, okay move for me.
04:15But a lot of those moves that we're previewing right now on the screen, they made a lot of
04:20sense just to get you through your day-to-day activities in baseball.
04:23Smart moves for those clubs.
04:25When you could add those pieces, it could be the difference later on.
04:29Again, Jorge Soler was a World Series MVP for the Braves when they won the championship
04:35back during the 2021 campaign.
04:38Lane Thomas now makes his way to Cleveland, batted .253 so far this year in the Nation's
04:43capital for the Nats, eight home runs in 40 RBIs.
04:47Still on the block on deadline day.
04:50We're going to need our producer Joe Frizzo to chime in.
04:53His source is now telling him that Garrett Crochet is available to be dealt from Chicago.
05:00Again, the White Sox writing a 15 game losing skid.
05:04As Donnie correctly predicted entering yesterday's Monday MLB slate, Jack Flaherty was listed
05:10as the probable starter for Detroit.
05:12Donnie said if Flaherty is actually going to be traded, he's not pitching on Monday
05:16against the Guardians.
05:17He did not.
05:18It was Bo Briskey.
05:19Cleveland won big.
05:20It was minus 120 at the time.
05:22Hope you're listening to Donnie right side, but we would expect with a late scratch, Flaherty
05:27is going to get moved.
05:29And is Blake Snell going to be traded?
05:32Did San Francisco show its hand dealing Jorge Soler yesterday that they are actually going
05:37to be sellers ahead of the deadline?
05:39I think a lot of these guys get moved today, but the one most interesting one is Garrett
05:43Crochet, because it's not as if you're saying, hey, the price is too high.
05:47The leaks coming out aren't good.
05:48And this is particular for the Chicago White Sox, where the agent is saying, well, if we
05:52go to a new cut, a new deal or a new team, I want a new deal.
05:55Number one, also want to have the terms where you're not going to get me.
05:58Let's just say the Dodgers make a move for crocheting.
06:00You know what?
06:01He's going to be an awesome bullpen piece.
06:02He doesn't want to pitch out of the bullpen.
06:04So it's only as a starter.
06:05So those demands get listed and it's not really the team that's looking to pay those.
06:09It's the team that's looking to sell, which is the White Sox going like, I would just
06:12like to say to the highest bidder and if the highest bidder is the Dodgers, they want you
06:15out of the bullpen or a long relief guy.
06:17And you say, no, well, I can't trade you at that point.
06:20And also, if I do get traded, I want to make sure these innings that are piling up now
06:24after my over a couple of years ago don't get extremely high.
06:28And if they do, I want to be compensated.
06:30I've seen for crochet.
06:32So I would look at that list, Flaherty, Snell, Robert Jr., Rangifo and Diaz and say to myself,
06:37maybe the guy that least likely get traded today is crochet now and he should have been
06:41the one that would be favored to get traded, but he wants his demands to be met.
06:44That could be a tough sell bet.
06:47Because I think Garrett Crochet is not just a rental 160 strikeout second most in MLB
06:53this year.
06:54He's got a six and eight record.
06:55Why would they trade for somebody to offer up so much for a guy that's got a losing record?
06:59He individually has six of the 27 wins.
07:03The White Sox have had this year in a 3-2-3 ERA.
07:07I cannot wait to see what the Giants do with Blake Snell acquiring the reigning National
07:12League Cy Young winner this offseason.
07:14Could be a short stint in San Francisco, but he has been sensational in the month of July.
