00:00It was Halloween night on the island of Sodor, the moon shone brightly and the stars twinkled
00:12in the night sky.
00:16The children's Halloween party was over, but while the children slept, all the engines
00:25were kept very busy.
00:31Thomas was alone at Tidmouth Sheds when the Fat Controller arrived.
00:35He was still in his Halloween costume.
00:38You are to collect flour from the mill and take it to the bakery, he boomed.
00:44You must work with Diesel.
00:46The island needs its morning toast and Lady Hat and I need our crumpets, he added sternly.
00:54So I'll have no mishaps tonight.
00:57Thomas didn't want to work with Diesel, but he wanted to be really useful.
01:08When Thomas arrived at Brendam, he couldn't see Diesel at all.
01:14Diesel was up to his old tricks.
01:18He rolled up behind Thomas and went, boo!
01:24Trust the silly old steamie to be scurdy on Halloween, Diesel sneered.
01:31I'm not a scurdy engine, said Thomas firmly.
01:35We'll see, oiled Diesel.
01:41Thomas and Diesel headed for the flour.
01:45Diesel teased Thomas with every click and every clack.
01:50When they arrived at the woods, Diesel cried, it's the haunted forest, and he called out
01:57woo Thomas in a spooky voice.
02:05Stop it, said Thomas crossly.
02:08But the breeze blew and the branches creaked.
02:13Diesel's teasing made it seem spooky indeed.
02:21Then they came to the abandoned mine.
02:24The buildings were deserted, but they could hear a banging noise.
02:31What was that, cried Thomas.
02:35Sounds like the ghost engine looking for a steamie to scare.
02:41Well, I'm not scared, said Thomas, but he wished he felt as brave as he sounded.
02:54Thomas and Diesel had to stop at a red signal.
02:59It was next to a twisty old tree, a wind whistled, and Thomas heard a strange cry.
03:08Suddenly Thomas felt something touch his tender.
03:11Look out, cried Diesel, the ghost engine is after your funnel.
03:17Cinders and ashes, gasped Thomas, and he let out a frightened peep.
03:23Scaredy engine, scaredy engine, Diesel teased.
03:28Thomas was very cross with Diesel.
03:31He wanted to pay him back for all his teasing.
03:36Thomas and Diesel arrived at the flour mill.
03:41Thomas rolled up to collect the flour.
03:46Then Thomas had an idea.
03:50We'll see who's a scaredy engine, he puffed.
03:57Thomas biffed the trucks out of the way and rolled under the chute himself.
04:04When Thomas puffed out the other side, he was covered from dome to buffer in pure white
04:10flour.
04:11Wooo, he said spookily, it's the ghost engine, cried Diesel, it's come to get me.
04:20Stop, cried Thomas, it's just me.
04:25But Diesel was nowhere to be seen.
04:29After Diesel was gone, the mill seemed very quiet.
04:34But there was still work to do.
04:36The island needs its bread, thought Thomas, and the fat controller needs his crumpets.
04:45Thomas shunted all the trucks into one long line and he set off for the bakery all alone.
04:58As Thomas arrived at the twisty tree, he wished he could go faster, but it was a very
05:04long train and he had to go slowly.
05:08Because he was going so slowly, Thomas could see that the tree wasn't spooky at all.
05:14It was just a tree, he gasped, and the strange cry was an owl.
05:22Thomas was relieved.
05:25Thomas chugged towards the abandoned mine.
05:29He could still hear the spooky banging.
05:32He looked to his left and then to his right, and he saw what was making the noise.
05:39It's just an old door, he gasped, the wind is making it crash.
05:49Slowly Thomas reached the old woods.
05:52The breeze still blew and the branches creaked.
05:57Thomas took a big brave puff, but without Diesel's teasing, Thomas could see the haunted
06:05forest was actually Henry's favourite forest.
06:10It's not scary at all, said Thomas.
06:19Thomas arrived at the bakery.
06:21He was tired but happy.
06:24It's the ghost engine, sir, Diesel told the Fat Controller, and it's come to get me.
06:31It's not a ghost engine, boomed the Fat Controller, that's Thomas, he's a really useful engine.
06:38Thomas, you have done a splendid job, the Fat Controller said, you deserve a special
06:44washdown.
06:45Thank you, sir, puffed Thomas proudly.
06:48And while the Fat Controller waited for the first batch of crumpets, Thomas looked forward
06:54to telling his friends his Diesel Halloween story.
