00:00But the big news around the National Football League DRS to start off this Tuesday morning.
00:04Brandon Ayuk embattled with San Francisco officially requesting a trade about a week
00:09and a half, two weeks ahead of the 49ers reporting for training camp with GM John Lynch in San
00:15Fran saying we're not honoring that request.
00:19Something has changed by the bay.
00:20Adam Schefter of ESPN reporting this in the last half hour.
00:24The San Francisco 49ers are now willing to listen to trade offers for Brandon Ayuk and
00:29have given the star wide receiver permission to negotiate a contract with other teams.
00:35There are a couple of teams that could be involved like the Cleveland Browns or the
00:40New England Patriots.
00:42DRS, as you look at this situation, as we have seen Brandon Ayuk be unhappy with San
00:48Fran for the entirety of this offseason, how do you think we've reached this point?
00:54Help me out.
00:55Somebody help me out on this situation.
00:56I don't get it because the blueprint here for the NFL is not look at my wide receiver.
01:02We can't pay any of these guys.
01:04Look at how many franchises.
01:05Let's just take a look at the Miami Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles.
01:08Two wide receivers, each side monster pay.
01:11And also, oh, no, then we can't afford to have a quarterback then because we're going
01:14to have a Brock Purdy come up for a contract extension.
01:18Somebody check in on to a tiger by low with standings right now with his financial institutions.
01:22He made bank.
01:23Same thing with Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia.
01:24How did it get to this point?
01:25Also, if you're the 49ers, why are you not signing this guy young about to just touch
01:31his prime and carry you through in a Super Bowl window and you're saying we're not going
01:35to trade him and case in point number two, Ben, why was this not done at the draft where
01:40you can say to yourself, I'll move him tonight for a first round pick.
01:43I can then trade another pick trade up into the top ten, get a legitimate young wide receiver.
01:48That's going to cost me two or three million dollars this year to grow with this team would
01:52be the perfect compliment to Debo Samuel.
01:55How did it get to this point?
01:56You didn't see this coming here.
01:57Did you just figure that he's going to be happy and played fourteen million dollars
02:00when everybody around the NFL was getting paid at this point?
02:03I can't understand this.
02:04This would be different than if it was a team like, let's just say the Denver Broncos and
02:08you say, OK, we're not going to make a Super Bowl run.
02:11I'm not going to pay that much money.
02:13You're not worth that much.
02:14Your window is right now for the 49ers and you're not going to pay this guy.
02:18I can't understand what they're doing.
02:20I love that franchise.
02:21I love the general manager and John Lynch.
02:23I love the head coach.
02:24I like the way this team works.
02:25But for Brandon, I have to be traded before training camp actually is basically halfway
02:30underway.
02:31I don't get it.
02:32One bit.
02:33Neither do I.
02:34Right.
02:35And San Francisco has a large payroll and guys, they need to pay.
02:38They paid Debo Samuel and Nick Bosa last offseason.
02:42They made Christian McCaffrey the highest paid running back.
02:45If you want to call him that in the National Football League this offseason, they know
02:49there will be a big paycheck to give the Brock Purdy at the end of this year.
02:54Brock Purdy is third in the National Football League when they have been having Brock on
02:57the greatest discount you ever could as the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
03:03And Brandon Iyuk might not be of the ilk of Justin Jefferson or CeeDee Lamb and the reason
03:08I highlight those two is because that was the draft that Brandon Iyuk was in, a first
03:13round selection in 2020.
03:17But the last two years, Iyuk has had more than 1,000 receiving yards.
03:21Last year in his first full season with Brock Purdy, more than 1,300, a career high.
03:26There are a lot of offensive pieces, of course, in this San Francisco offense.
03:31But Brandon Iyuk should not be overlooked as the top wide receiver target purely for
03:37Brock Purdy.
03:38A confounding situation with Trent Williams, the best offensive tackle in football, also
03:43still holding out from training camp.
03:46And Donnie's point is very sound.
03:48If this was a team expected to win six or seven games, all right, you've got a disgruntled
03:53wide receiver who wants money and you're unwilling to pay.
03:57Fine.
03:58This should not be the team that is the short favorite to win the NFC and a co-favorite
04:02alongside Kansas City to win a Lombardi trophy in Super Bowl 59.
04:08It should only be very bright optimism entering a new season.
04:12It does not necessarily seem to be that in San Francisco.
04:17It's crazy the way it filters out, because I understand where they're trying to be physically
04:20responsible, which means in the next couple of years, we are going to have to pay Brock
04:24Purdy a lot of money.
04:25But the NFL landscape is this, Brock Purdy lets you say signs a $235 million extension
04:31next year.
04:32Oh my goodness.
04:33That's $50 million a year.
04:34But the way they structure the cap end, he's going to count probably $10 million or less
04:38next year against it.
04:39So what are you worried about paying Iyuk as if next year you can't afford anybody on
04:43that payroll?
04:44And also the blueprint is out here.
04:46You can pay top dollar for two wideouts.
04:49Last time I checked, Deebo high paid, Iyuk high paid, and you can pay your quarterback
04:52as well.
04:53I just don't understand what the method of process.
04:55Now, you might say, well, Donnie, they're going to get back Amari Cooper.
04:59What did I miss?
05:00Amari Cooper makes $2 million a year.
05:02He's a high priced veteran, four years older than Iyuk, who already, as you said, Ben,
05:06multiple times.
05:07That's a great rapport with Brock Purdy.
05:09That's his favorite target.
05:10Why are you upsetting Applecart?
05:12So keep in mind, if you made this move back in March, you have an entire off season to
05:16hang out with your new wide receiver, Bill Camaraderie.
05:19Now we're going to have him parachute in in the middle of camp and say, yeah, we're going
05:23to be on the same page.
05:24No.
05:25Yeah.
05:26Listen, there's going to be a large asking price that San Francisco would need in return.
05:30A lot of draft capital for Brendan Iyuk.
05:33And then the organization that gives up those assets is also going to have to pay Brendan
05:38Iyuk.
05:39That's why we're in this situation in San Francisco to begin with the 49ers, a three
05:44to one price to win the NFC title, a very short favorite, two and a half dollars in
05:48front of both the Lions and the Eagles, who are both tied for the second best number.
05:54The RSA, happy Hard Knocks Day to you.
05:57Training camp with the Chicago Bears on HBO debuts tonight.
06:02So that will be a very exciting thing as we get deeper into training camp around the National
06:07Football League.
06:08And speaking of training camp, as we get ready for the opening full week of preseason action
06:14that starts with a doubleheader on Tuesday, features a game at MetLife between the New
06:19York Giants and the Detroit Lions.
06:22We get joint practices this week around the National Football League, which leads to a
06:26few fights and some scuffles.
06:29Here's a look at what we had yesterday.
06:31The Giants and the Lions players got into a scuffle during their joint practices that
06:37time of year, says Ari Mayrov.
06:39Danny Rogers, who was the Lions team reporter, said it was the most fight she had ever seen
06:45at a single practice.
06:47So buy or sell, DRS, to you.
06:50Joint practice fights are tired, like they're old news at this point.
06:55Nah, sell that.
06:56You gotta have fights.
06:57It's ingrained in society, in the NFL, in high school football and in college football.
07:02Now typically in the summer camp, it's so hot and dusty out there, you just fight yourself.
07:06It's better to fight another opponent and sort of rally around, but also keep in mind
07:10why these fights are starting here.
07:11The guys are trying tooth and nail to make rosters, and a lot of times it's not necessarily
07:15the starters fighting each other.
07:17It's the backups trying to show that they have heart.
07:19They're not going to back down, but also from a Detroit Lions perspective, they're built
07:24in and ingrained with Dan Campbell, their head coach, that they're going to be the bullies.
07:28They're going to beat you around.
07:29So don't think the New York Giants coming in even day one of that practice, like, well,
07:33one thing straight, I don't know if there's going to be a scoreboard or not, but you're
07:35not going to come in here and punk us here in our own, you know, quote unquote, gymnasium
07:39at this point.
07:40So I don't mind the fights here because we've all been through it.
07:44It's 90 degrees.
07:45You're irritated.
07:46You just had practice for four straight days and you get a cheap shot in the back or you
07:50get held.
07:51Because keep in mind, you're not going to get fined, like, sure, your coach could send
07:54you to the showers early from practice, but it's not a regular season football game.
07:58You're not going to get suspended.
07:59And also things go on in practice when you have those joint practices that don't go on
08:03in games.
08:04You can hold a little bit more.
08:05You can do things that a little bit shady and the other guy is going to get upset.
08:09And therefore, you're going to be throwing punches.
08:10I don't mind the fights.
08:11It builds team camaraderie as well.
08:13It's just the thing that the NFL, college football and high school football happens.
08:17Yeah, we're selling it as well.
08:19I think it's a thing that has become more popularized because there's so much practice
08:23video coming out that maybe it was a little more under the radar even in the last five
08:28to ten years.
08:30This is the first time you're seeing another new person not on your own team throughout
08:35training camp.
08:36And to Donnie's point about these joint practices, if you have an issue with the preseason because
08:41you don't see the stars, you don't see the starters in large part.
08:44If you could watch joint practices, you get to see the ones versus the ones.
08:48It's not full contact.
08:49They're not diving at knees to start these practices, but it's still the best on both
08:54sides facing off.
08:56So that intensity is more ramped up.
09:00And to Donnie's point, if there's a scuffle during practice, no flags are going to be
09:04thrown.
09:05If that continues over into the actual preseason contest, that's when you have issue.
09:11That's when you have your coaching staff upset.
09:13That's when you try to follow more game protocol than you would in a joint practice.
09:18I'm okay with it.
09:20A doubleheader on Thursday.
09:22The New York Giants will host the Detroit Lions.
09:25Big Blue booked as a three and a half point favorite against the fighting Dan Campbell's
09:31on display yesterday, and at least so far in a positive way throughout training camp.
09:37It's Donnie's favorite rookie Malik neighbors of the New York Giants.
09:41Here are his season long passing or receiving yards props, 80, 875 in a hook, four and a
09:48half receiving touchdowns to lead rookie wide receivers in yardage.
09:52It's plus three 90 to an offensive rookie of the year.
09:56It's 16 to one.
09:57Of course, Malik neighbors out of LSU, the sixth overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft.
10:03So buy or sell Donnie right side Malik neighbors will be the best rookie wide receiver this
10:08season.
10:09It depends on how you're going to quantify what the best rookie wide receiver is going
10:12to be.
10:13It's just touchdown catches.
10:14Here's going to be yards going to be catches itself because nobody's coming into the season
10:17saying you don't expect big things from Malik neighbors.
10:20This guy is a sensational talent, but as we use that word, there are other players out
10:26here.
10:27Wide receivers that are rookies have way better quarterbacks.
10:30Let's be honest.
10:31If Malik neighbors is going to lead the league in touchdown passes, he better catch just
10:35about 90% of the touchdown passes coming from Daniel Jones's 15 touchdown passes a season
10:40that hampers him right off the bat.
10:42But there is some positive points from Malik neighbors because typically when you're drafted
10:45high in the draft, you're going to a team that technically isn't very good and the Giants
10:50aren't supposed to win.
10:51Let's just say the NFC East, therefore they should be down in the majority of fourth quarters,
10:56which means extra chances, extra targets, extra yardage here for a young wide receiver,
11:01but I'm going to sell this.
11:02I don't think it's going to be the best wide receiver because I think Marvin Harrison jr.
11:05Is just cut from stone dropped out of the clouds with a dominant quarterback that can
11:10extend the pocket and get him the football.
11:12I think it's Marvin Harrison jr., but that's not a knock on neighbors.
11:16Kid is great.
11:17I am buying what you are selling and I am selling that notion as well.
11:21Marvin Harrison jr.
11:22Is going to be the best rookie wide receiver his season long receiving yards prop for his
11:27first year in the NFL 1050 and a hook and the guy delivering the football to MHJ, but
11:33better than the guy delivering the football to name four around the NFL.
11:38More NFL buyers sell live right here to end out this opening hour that we continue into
11:44our number two.
11:46I think Donnie just checked the rundown for the first time because these are some spicy.
11:51Okay, let's go.
11:53Right off the top.
11:54You have no thinking for me, man.
11:55Let's hit the whatever comes up, comes up here.
11:57B double s.
11:58I like it.
11:59All right, here we go.
12:00This is going to be fun.
12:01All right.
12:02First by herself for Donnie.
12:04Any team to go undefeated in the NFL regular season in 2024.
12:08These are the odds on FanDuel for these season specials to potentially be accomplished.
12:15Yes, a perfect 17 and a record 12 to one, the no, obviously the heavily juiced side
12:21at minus 3000.
12:23So the question then to Donnie by herself, a team will go undefeated within the next
12:29five years.
12:30The odds were just for 2024.
12:32The question for the next five NFL seasons, no, sell that, sell that right away.
12:37And whatever the price is, you're going to make money.
12:39Now, granted, if you were to bet that you got to wait five years to get your money,
12:42that's not a great return on investment for the odds that you're getting.
12:45The reason I bring this up is to is it's only happened.
12:48But is it two times?
12:50I guess we could.
12:51But was it the Dolphins way back in 72?
12:54And then what?
12:55The New England Patriots?
12:56Nobody else has gone undefeated in the regular season.
12:58And also keep in mind this.
12:59It's not so much of just this year.
13:01Right.
13:02And you say, OK, it's 17 games.
13:03But what are they negotiating right now in the NFL between the Players Association and
13:06the players and the owners?
13:08It's adding an extra game, which means probably the next two years, Ben, not only 17 games,
13:1218 games, even a harder to do at that point.
13:15I don't think it's a possibility anymore because the goal isn't really to go all the way through
13:19unbeaten in the regular season and get the ultimate goal.
13:22Times were different.
13:23What was it?
13:2414 game season when the Dolphins were here.
13:25That's great.
13:26There's way too much parity at this point in the NFL salary capture designed to keep
13:30the parity in the NFL.
13:31And they are like when you're the best team in the NFL on an 18 game schedule, it's saying
13:35two years.
13:37You're going to have three teams that are a home off of buys to try to beat you, even
13:40if you're the better team.
13:41We know how that works out.
13:42Hey, look at this.
13:43You just played on the East Coast and you played on the West Coast.
13:45It's just too hard to do right now.
13:47There will be some really good football teams.
13:49Don't get me wrong.
13:50But the ability to unbeaten over the next five years or even this year, and if they
13:53add the 18th game, I just don't see it.
13:55I'm selling that right down the river.
13:58I completely agree.
13:59I'm selling it as well.
14:01Five years, 10 years, 50 years for however long the National Football League exists.
14:06I do not think we will see another undefeated team in that time.
14:10The gap between these teams is not nearly as wide as it was even a couple of decades
14:16ago.
14:17You're not going to win all 17 games.
14:19I'm selling that notion.
14:22However, any team to go winless in the regular season in 2024, yes, at 10 to one, no, still
14:30heavily juiced at minus 2100.
14:34Those are the odds for just this season in 2024.
14:37But the question goes beyond buy or sell DRS, a team will go winless within the next five
14:43years.
14:44Again, I got to sell that because you're just playing the odds and also it's not sort of
14:48not a fair competition, right?
14:49It's not like plus 100 to minus 110 either way, like, oh, you know what?
14:52That's a pretty good thought process to lose 17 games in the NFL is so hard to do.
14:57And again, as we talk about the talking points, we're going to get an 18th game.
15:00So it makes it even harder to lose 18 straight ball games.
15:04We've had some devastatingly bad NFL teams and we have seen teams hit that marker.
15:08But if you're just weighing who's actually bad and who's actually good, yes, there are
15:12some bad football teams and some very good teams.
15:15But that parody allows you to sooner or later out of your eight, nine or whatever, 10 home
15:19games in the future, you're going to win one of those games.
15:22I'll sell that as well.
15:23It'll be interesting to watch, but I don't think it's going to happen.
15:26I'm going to sell that as well.
15:28We had a fade to public poll that will start off our number two that asked what is easier
15:34or what will happen first to win all of your games or to lose all of your games.
15:39And I think the public is on the right side.
15:41The Carolina Panthers were atrocious a season ago.
15:45It was still two and 15, right?
15:47And I know you're like, hey, that could have gone another way.
15:49They wanted to walk off field goal.
15:50I get that.
15:51But you still found a way to win two games.
15:54They were even four, 11 and two against the number booked as an underdog in all 17 games.
16:00That's nearly as poor as you can be and not even keeping games close and still found their
16:05way to two wins.
16:07When you look at 2022, the Bears had the worst regular season record and they were three
16:14and 14.
16:15I do not think a team will go winless.
16:17However, I would bet on a team to go winless before I would bet on a team to go undefeated.
16:24Yeah, no, it makes some sense there.
16:26And we're going to talk about those changes and what is going to take place here.
16:29And if we do get that 18 schedule, but I do think also, Ben, to echo your point, the public
16:35got this one right by a wide margin.
16:37It's going to be pretty easy to explain.
16:38You're coming up an hour number two.
16:40Yes, it will be.
16:41We'll look at the worst records in the 17 game regular season that we have had for the
16:46last three years on the other side of the break.
16:50And again, it's not as desperately poor as you might expect.
16:55Hour two on the other side of the break here on The Early Line.
