Occasional rains may persist in parts of Luzon, Visayas due to ‘habagat’

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor a low pressure area (LPA) and a tropical depression near the country, but the southwest monsoon will remain the dominant weather system, potentially bringing rains to parts of Luzon and the Visayas over the next 24 hours.

00:00Good morning to all of you and the time is now August 7, 2024.
00:07Here are our latest satellite images.
00:09We can see that we still have a low-pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
00:15We were last to pass it, 565 kilometers northeast of the extreme northern Luzon.
00:20At the moment, based on our latest data, there is still a small chance that this will become a typhoon
00:26and it will not have a direct effect on any part of our country.
00:30Meanwhile, we have a typhoon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
00:35This is now in the Tropical Depression category.
00:38This means that in different categories of typhoons,
00:43the Tropical Depression is the weakest or the first category of tropical cyclones.
00:48We can notice that the Tropical Depression has no local name yet
00:52because it is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
00:55It also does not have an international name because the typhoons in the Tropical Storm category
01:01are the typhoons that we give an international name to.
01:04At the moment, it is just one more Tropical Depression.
01:07From a low-pressure area, it became a Tropical Depression or it became a typhoon.
01:12This low-pressure area that we were last to pass is more than 2,000 kilometers northeast of the extreme northern Luzon.
01:18Again, it is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
01:21It has no direct effect on any part of our country.
01:23Its strength is at 55 kilometers per hour.
01:26Its magnitude is at 70 kilometers per hour.
01:30It is almost stationary.
01:31This typhoon does not move much.
01:34But we expect that in the coming days, it will move towards a part of Japan.
01:40The Tropical Depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility
01:44also has no direct effect on any part of our country.
01:48There is also a small chance that it will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
01:53At the moment, the most effective typhoon in our country is the Southwest Monsoon
01:58or what we still call the Hanging Habagat.
02:00This will bring rains, especially here in the western section of Central and Southern Luzon.
02:07We still expect rains, especially there in the area of Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, and here in the area of Palawan.
02:14The majority of our country will continue to experience isolated rains
02:20from dusk to dusk.
02:22This can be experienced in a large part of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
02:27It is also possible to experience early morning rain showers
02:31in one of the areas of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
02:35We will continue to provide updates, especially here in the areas where we monitor different weather systems.
02:41We still expect that in the next few days, the effects of the Hanging Habagat will continue,
02:45especially in the western section of Luzon, particularly in the area of Bataan, Zambales, and Ilocos Region.
02:54Here in Luzon, we will see a large chance of rains in Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan
03:01following the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
03:04While in other parts of Luzon, including Manila,
03:07we still expect isolated rain showers from dusk to dusk.
03:12It is also possible to experience early morning rain showers
03:15following the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
03:18It is also possible that it will still be a bit hot in the afternoon.
03:20The temperature outside is 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
03:23In Togagarao, it is 24 to 35 degrees Celsius.
03:26In Baguio, it is 17 to 24 degrees Celsius.
03:29While in Manila, it is 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
03:33While in Tagaytay, it is 25 to 31 degrees Celsius.
03:36While in Legazpi, it is 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
03:40Here in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao,
03:42there is also a high chance of rain in Palawan following the Southwest Monsoon.
03:47The temperature in Calayaan Islands is 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
03:51In Puerto Princesa, it is 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
03:55In this area of Visayas, we will experience isolated thunderstorms and rain showers.
04:02In Iloilo, it is 25 to 32 degrees Celsius.
04:04In Cebu, it is up to 32 degrees Celsius.
04:07The temperature in Tacloban is also 26 to 32 degrees Celsius.
04:11A large part of Mindanao will also experience isolated thunderstorms and rain showers
04:17in the afternoon and evening.
04:19The temperature in Zamboanga is 25 to 33 degrees Celsius.
04:23In Cagendeoro, it is 24 to 32 degrees Celsius.
04:26While in Davao, it is 26 to 33 degrees Celsius.
04:30As of now, we still do not have a high-level gale warning.
04:33This means that sea vehicles and small boats are still sailing across the country.
04:39It is not expected that the waves of the sea will be strong.
04:42The only difference is if there are thunderstorms that trigger strong waves.
04:48So, be careful especially for small sea vehicles.
