00:00Wharf and Peace
00:04Skarloey is a happy little engine.
00:09He likes puffing past all his favourite places.
00:14He likes the big blue lake,
00:17and he likes crossing the viaduct high in the air.
00:23Skarloey has so many favourite places up in the hills.
00:29But sometimes Skarloey has to go to the wharf.
00:34The wharf is not his favourite place at all.
00:38Skarloey thinks it's loud and noisy.
00:42He feels very small there,
00:45and doesn't know anybody's name.
00:49One day Skarloey pulled flower trucks into the wharf.
00:54He didn't say hello to anyone,
00:57and no one said hello to him.
01:02The troublesome trucks saw a chance for mischief.
01:06They wiggled and giggled and biffed Skarloey.
01:10On, on, they cried.
01:13Then some pipes dropped from a crane and landed with a clang.
01:19Skarloey jumped.
01:22The trucks hit the buffers and bright white flower flew everywhere.
01:28Fancy jumping at a silly old crane, snorted James.
01:32Scaredy little engine!
01:35Skarloey felt very upset and smaller than ever.
01:39James was only teasing, puffed Thomas.
01:43Scaredy engine, scaredy engine, sang the trucks.
01:47Scaredy cluck, don't come back! Ha, ha, ha, ha!
01:52Maybe I am a scaredy little engine, cried Skarloey.
01:57And he steamed away.
02:02Later, Skarloey had to collect a prize bull and take it to the wharf.
02:09He was very worried.
02:16Skarloey came to the rickety bridge.
02:20Rusty had stopped on the other side.
02:23Rusty didn't like crossing the bridge.
02:26He thought it was very high up.
02:29What should I do? Rusty asked nervously.
02:33I'm not a brave engine, puffed Skarloey sadly,
02:37so I don't look down and I puff as hard as I can.
02:42Skarloey crossed the bridge safely.
02:46Thank you, Skarloey, cried Rusty.
02:50Now he could cross the bridge safely too.
02:56Then Skarloey met Duncan by a dip in the track.
03:00A stream had burst its banks, water covered the tracks.
03:05If I go on, the water might put out my firebox, cried Duncan.
03:12I'm not a brave engine, whistled Skarloey sadly,
03:17so I roll very slowly and I try not to make any waves.
03:22So Skarloey rolled as gently as he could and was soon on the other side.
03:29Then Duncan did the same.
03:33Thank you, he cried, but Skarloey had already gone.
03:40Skarloey was nearing the wharf again.
03:44Then there was trouble.
03:46Logs broke free at the forest mill.
03:49They rumbled and tumbled down the hill,
03:53and Rheneas was coming the other way.
03:56Oh no, cried Skarloey, the logs will hit Rheneas.
04:01Skarloey tried peeping and calling, but Rheneas didn't hear.
04:07So Skarloey steamed forward as fast as he could.
04:12The log hit Skarloey with a great big poof.
04:17Skarloey was dented and the bull roared,
04:21but luckily no one was hurt.
04:26Rheneas was very happy to be saved, but Skarloey still looked sad.
04:32What's the matter? asked his friend.
04:35I jumped at a noise at the wharf, sighed Skarloey,
04:39and the trucks laughed at me.
04:41Now I have a big dent.
04:43I'm a scurdy little engine, and scurdy engines will never be useful engines.
04:49Rheneas was surprised.
04:52But you just saved me from a horrible biffing, he cried.
04:57Rusty told me you helped him with the bridge and helped Duncan with the stream.
05:03You are the bravest little engine I know.
05:07But Skarloey didn't feel brave at all.
05:10He still had to go to the wharf, and that scared him.
05:15Skarloey rolled into the wharf.
05:19It was as big and noisy as ever.
05:23Then he remembered what his friend Rheneas had said.
05:27I helped Rusty and Duncan and Rheneas.
05:32I am the bravest little engine I know.
05:36Skarloey took a big brave puff.
05:41Hello everybody, I'm Skarloey.
05:44To his surprise, the workmen all called back.
05:49Hello Skarloey.
05:51Skarloey was delighted.
05:55Then Skarloey saw the troublesome trucks.
05:59Clickety-clack, look who's back, they sang.
06:02The scurdy little engine's on our track.
06:06The scurdy little engine's on our track.
06:10This made Skarloey cross.
06:13I am not a scurdy little engine, he said firmly.
06:17And if you biff me, I'll biff you back, so there.
06:21Ooh, said the trucks, and they didn't move an inch.
06:27Skarloey's bull was safely unloaded.
06:31James was impressed.
06:33Good work, Skarloey, he chuffed.
06:36You are a really useful engine, added Thomas.
06:41Skarloey felt very proud, very happy and very, very brave.
06:49And now that the wharf is full of friends,
06:53it's one of Skarloey's favourite places of all.
