00:00My twin Leslie and I have always had a, let's say, complicated relationship.
00:04You know how people say there's always one good twin and one evil twin?
00:08Well, I'm Ava, and this is the story of how I became the evil twin.
00:13But before I continue, please like and subscribe.
00:15It all started at birth.
00:16Literally, Leslie was the most quiet, sleepy baby, and I was a crying, wailing disaster.
00:22Apparently, I didn't let Mom get a moment of sleep for months.
00:26Yeah, like that was all part of my evil plan.
00:29When I was nine months old, I knocked the milk off my high chair.
00:32Mom slipped on it and broke her arm, and Leslie was just standing there to lift her up.
00:36Mama.
00:37Oh, Leslie, you said mama.
00:41Over the years, Leslie's been obsessed with being the hero, leaving me the role of the villain.
00:46One day when we were eight, she stole my lunch and gave it to a homeless man.
00:50I yelled at her, and the entire school watched.
00:53We should all be generous to those less fortunate.
00:55It seemed like everyone favored her.
00:57Friends, teachers, strangers, and especially my parents.
01:01They literally had a wall of accomplishments in the kitchen that was plastered with all of Leslie's things.
01:06You name it.
01:07Report cards, Girl Scout badges, and even newspaper clippings of her charity work.
01:11Of course, it was all a sham.
01:13Leslie made me take a photo of her with a bunch of stray puppies and was dubbed the Princess of Puppy Rescue.
01:18But I was the one who brought them to the shelter after the photo was snapped.
01:21The only thing of mine on that dumb wall was a portrait I painted of Leslie as a joke.
01:26I made her look like a caricature, and mom still thought she was gorgeous.
01:30Oh, it's an abstract masterpiece.
01:33You really captured Leslie's essence, Ava.
01:35It's the best thing you ever did.
01:37But by far, the worst thing on the wall was a dumb self-congratulatory poem Leslie wrote about the gift of giving.
01:44In a land of selfies and posts where inflated egos boast,
01:47there dwells a soul so selfless, so rare, with acts of kindness beyond compare.
01:53Her name is Leslie.
01:55Yeah, I know.
01:55She's unbearable.
01:57But it was like only I could see it.
01:58Generous, creative, and beautiful.
02:01We really hit the jackpot with you, Leslie.
02:03Barf.
02:04They even displayed a lock of hair they saved when she donated all her hair to kids in need.
02:08But I knew she only did it because she thought a bob cut would suit her.
02:11And, well, it did.
02:13Everyone in school was fawning over her new cut.
02:15Oh, wow, Leslie.
02:17I normally don't like girls with short hair, but I can't take my eyes off you.
02:21That was Chet, my biggest crush in school.
02:24Even though Leslie and I were identical, he never even looked my way.
02:27Maybe it's because my parents bought Leslie all the clothes she wanted,
02:30and I was stuck with my cousin's ugly hand-me-downs.
02:33I thought maybe if I got the same haircut as Leslie, Chet would notice me.
02:37Oh, wow, Ava.
02:38I'm normally not attracted to girls with short hair.
02:41And?
02:42That's it.
02:43What did she have that I didn't?
02:44I decided to just focus on my schoolwork, graduate with honors, and get away from Leslie as fast as I could.
02:50I was sick of living in her shadow.
02:52But then, when I was 15, I got suspended for cheating on my English homework.
02:56I was so confused.
02:57I didn't cheat.
02:58I actually stayed up all night writing the perfect essay about what it means to be moral, of all things.
03:03I'm sorry, Ava.
03:04But your homework is identical to another student's.
03:06What?
03:07Whose?
03:07Your sister, Leslie.
03:09I could feel my face turning into a hot pepper.
03:11I wrote it.
03:12She must have copied off of me.
03:14But I got her homework first.
03:15So, naturally, it makes sense that you copied her.
03:18She must have just copied me and gotten to school earlier.
03:21But Miss Silver wouldn't budge.
03:23She said I needed to turn in a new essay, or I would fail the class.
03:26I don't know what came over me, but I grew furious.
03:30I picked up Miss Silver's number one teacher mug and wielded it over my head like a weapon.
03:35What are you doing with that?
03:36My favorite student gave me that mug.
03:37Let me guess.
03:38Leslie?
03:39Yes!
03:40I smashed the mug on the ground, and it shattered into a hundred pieces.
03:43The teacher gasped.
03:44You're suspended!
03:46Everyone wanted me to be the evil twin, and now I was.
03:49As if that wasn't enough, on my walk of shame out of the school doors,
03:53I heard my crush, Chet, laughing while he read something aloud.
03:56Like a butterfly, my heart takes flight.
03:59Staring at you, my soul ignites.
04:02Your laugh, a melody that makes me sweat.
04:06Echoes in my heart, oh, how I swoon for you, Chet.
04:10I was mortified.
04:12It was my secret poem to Chet.
04:14How did he get it?
04:15And then, I saw Leslie, giggling by the lockers.
04:18I knew she was behind this.
04:20I went from embarrassed to enraged.
04:23I needed to expose her as the evil twin she was.
04:26But how?
04:26I spent the next few weeks trying to identify her mortal weakness so I could exploit it.
04:31And then, I did.
04:33Her biggest annoyance, the thing that would make her break her hero persona?
04:37Loud chewers.
04:38I bribed Stewie, the loudest chewer in school, to sit next to Leslie at lunch.
04:43He chomped on carrots for 20 straight minutes as I saw the wrath build in my sister's eyes.
04:49She was ready to strike.
04:50She stood up on the table and screamed,
04:52You're chewing my sanity away!
04:54The entire school looked at her, awestruck.
04:56But then, applause rang out.
04:58Apparently, everyone was frustrated with Chewy Stewie's chomping.
05:02My sister was a hero again.
05:04She could do no wrong.
05:06I had to think bigger.
05:07And then, suddenly, I had a brilliant idea.
05:09I knew how much she cared about Chet's opinion,
05:11and I had to embarrass her big time in front of him.
05:14I snuck into the school early in the morning to initiate my plan.
05:17I walked into my former English classroom and loosened Leslie's chair leg.
05:21Then, I hid in the supply closet and waited.
05:24When class started and Leslie sat in her chair,
05:26the entire thing collapsed.
05:28Leslie fell straight on her butt,
05:30and everyone started laughing as her face turned tomato red.
05:33Miss Silver, this is completely unacceptable.
05:36Our school's budget needs to account for better equipment.
05:39I thought for sure Leslie's true, terrible nature was finally coming out.
05:44She was pissed.
05:45But don't worry.
05:46I'm going to start a fundraiser to raise money for better school furniture this weekend.
05:51Everyone applauded once again.
05:53Ugh, I had to think even bigger.
05:55Our Sweet Sixteen was just around the corner,
05:57and the two of us were shopping for dresses.
05:59Just do me a favor.
06:01Don't ruin this night for us.
06:02Me?
06:03You're the one who loves making me look like the villain.
06:05Stop blaming me for who you are.
06:07Take responsibility for your own life.
06:09Enough was enough.
06:10I was so furious that I decided to slip an expensive necklace into her purse.
06:15When we left the store, the security alarm rang loudly.
06:18Sweet, angelic Leslie was a criminal caught for shoplifting.
06:22And this time, Leslie couldn't spin it heroically.
06:25It wasn't me.
06:26And even if it was, aren't capitalism and corporations evil?
06:30It's not like I stole from some poor person.
06:32Her words just buried her deeper and deeper.
06:35She was in trouble.
06:37She spent the night in jail, screaming and making a big scene,
06:40crying like a little girl.
06:42I didn't do it.
06:43I'm innocent.
06:44Our justice system is a disaster.
06:46You guys are sick people.
06:48My parents were forced to bail Leslie out of jail,
06:50and they were mad.
06:52Fuming, actually.
06:54Finally!
06:55I can't believe our angel would do something so unethical.
06:58You're grounded, so you can forget everything about your Sweet Sixteen.
07:01I couldn't help but smirk a little.
07:03One of my plans had really worked.
07:05I think Leslie saw me smirking, because then she screamed.
07:08But I didn't do it!
07:09Ava framed me!
07:10Look at her!
07:11She's smiling!
07:12I put on my best disappointed face.
07:14There's nothing funny about committing a crime, Leslie.
07:17Well, at least we have one daughter who has morals.
07:20Finally, my luck had turned.
07:21And without Leslie at the Sweet Sixteen,
07:23I could finally prove myself a hero,
07:26and announce my amazing philanthropy work.
07:28I didn't have any philanthropy work yet, but I'd figure it out.
07:31The next day at school, everyone was whispering and gossiping.
07:35But this time, it wasn't about me.
07:36It was about Leslie.
07:38I heard what you did, Leslie.
07:39And it was messed up.
07:40I don't hang around with thieves.
07:41You can't come over anymore.
07:43There are too many nice, expensive things at my house.
07:45Wouldn't want you swiping them.
07:47What? But I didn't do it!
07:48Nothing Leslie said in her defense helped.
07:50Everyone was avoiding her.
07:52Even though I had gotten my long-awaited revenge,
07:54it wasn't easy seeing my sister like this.
07:56I tried to remind myself of all the terrible things she's done to me in the past,
08:00and just enjoy my Sweet Sixteen.
08:02The party was awesome.
08:03But at first, without Leslie's natural party host abilities,
08:07the vibes were off.
08:08So, I had to step up.
08:09I cranked the music, busted out my dance moves,
08:12and did everything I could to get the party started.
08:14Soon enough, the party was lit.
08:17Finally, I was popular.
08:19And everybody loved me.
08:21I was finally the cool twin.
08:23Until someone fell through the vent and onto the stage,
08:26crushing the DJ set.
08:28Covered in dust was none other than Leslie.
08:31I don't know if she'd just been spying on the party,
08:33or trying to sabotage it,
08:34but she just looked so sad.
08:37And since she'd ruined the party,
08:38everyone was booing her,
08:40and she started to cry.
08:41Even Leslie didn't deserve this level of shame.
08:44So, I had to come clean.
08:45Hold up, everyone.
08:46It was my fault Leslie was banned from her party.
08:49She's not a criminal,
08:50and she deserves to be here.
08:52But everyone was booing her,
08:53throwing popcorn at her,
08:54and screaming that she was a thief.
08:56Listen to me.
08:57Leslie isn't the thief.
08:59I am.
08:59I set her up for a crime she didn't commit.
09:02You what?
09:03Ugh, I can't believe it.
09:04Well, actually, I can.
09:05Leslie has always been the angel.
09:07And you?
09:08I thought for sure she was gonna ground me.
09:10But it was much worse.
09:12You're just evil.
09:13The party was definitely over.
09:15Everyone decided to leave.
09:17And back at home,
09:18I even tried to apologize to Leslie,
09:20but she completely ignored me.
09:22Then, a couple of days later,
09:23OMG.
09:24What?
09:25Chet posted the sweet 16 video of me
09:27all over social media.
09:29The comments are so cruel.
09:30I opened my phone
09:32to see that not only did Chet post Leslie's shameful moment,
09:35but he posted my secret love letter too.
09:37We were both being ripped apart.
09:39They were calling us the Twisted Twins.
09:42My heart sank for both of us.
09:44Leslie, I'm sorry for what I did.
09:46It's just,
09:46mom and dad always think you're the golden daughter,
09:49and that I'm the disaster child.
09:51And you sort of played into it over the years.
09:53Leslie looked broken and vulnerable for the first time.
09:57I know I did.
09:57I was just enjoying being the star child so much,
10:01and I was afraid if I didn't keep up the act,
10:03they would start treating me like they treat you.
10:05It was wrong of me,
10:06and I'm sorry.
10:07I'm sorry too.
10:08We're sisters.
10:09Twins.
10:10We should be sticking together.
10:11You're right.
10:12From now on,
10:13there's no good twin or evil twin.
10:15Just Leslie and Ava.
10:17Then, for the first time ever,
10:18we hugged each other.
10:20Yeah, it was a bit clumsy.
10:21We weren't used to it.
10:23Now what are we gonna do about our reputations?
10:25Change our names and identities?
10:26Move to another country?
10:28I have a better idea.
10:29It's time to expose Chet as the true villain.
10:32Chet was a sure bet for Prom King that year,
10:34and we knew how badly he wanted that crown.
10:37So, we cooked up a devilish plan.
10:39We decided to rig the election.
10:41After dark,
10:42we snuck into the school gymnasium
10:44and replaced all the votes for Chet
10:46with votes for Chewy Stewy.
10:48When the moment of announcing the Prom Queen and King arrived,
10:51and Chewy Stewy was crowned,
10:53Chet couldn't take it.
10:54What? Chewy Stewy?
10:56This election must be rigged.
10:58Chet rushed on stage
10:59and yanked the award out of Stewy's hands.
11:02Everyone went silent
11:03until Leslie and I started to chant,
11:05Chewy! Stewy! Chewy! Stewy!
11:08Soon, everybody joined in.
11:10This made Chet even angrier.
11:13The guy with the pimply face,
11:14unibrow, and loud chewing problem
11:16is the Prom King?
11:18What is wrong with everyone in this school?
11:20You all are crazy!
11:21Luckily, someone captured the moment
11:23and posted it on the internet
11:25for all to see.
11:26Chet went viral for being a bully.
11:28As for us,
11:29everyone at school thought we were kind and brave
11:31for defending Stewy like that,
11:33and our reputations were restored.
11:35From that day on,
11:36we became closer than ever,
11:37always supporting one another,
11:39and never tearing each other down,
11:41as true siblings should do.
11:42As for Mom and Dad,
11:43well, they finally evened out the accomplishment wall.
11:46Once Leslie and I started sharing accomplishments
11:48by working together,
11:50they didn't really have a choice.
11:51When we grew up,
11:52Leslie and I started a non-profit
11:54to help foster kids get placed into good homes
11:56and encourage them to get along with their new siblings.
11:58I know,
11:59we've all thought at some point
12:00that we'd be better off without siblings.
12:03Trust me,
12:03I've been there.
12:04But without them,
12:05life would be so dull.
