02:45You're the greatest little bear in all of the land.
02:49Have a very happy birthday dear Rupert the Bear.
02:53Isn't it wonderful your 65th year.
02:56When people are in need you lend a helping hand.
03:00You're the greatest little bear in all of the land.
03:12It's a lovely sunny day and Rupert hurries out to play.
03:17He meets no friends until at last he sees the foxes running fast.
03:22Do wait for me, calls Rupert, please.
03:25I want to go and climb some trees.
03:27The foxes say, yes, we'll come with you.
03:30And we'll take some eggs from Bird's Nest too.
03:33Rupert tells the foxes they must not.
03:36And a little bird thanks him a lot.
03:38Now Rupert thinks, it's strange to me.
03:42I wonder where my friends can be.
03:46So, feeling rather lonely there, he hurries home to Mr Bear.
03:51They settle down to read and rest.
03:54Till Rupert sees the words, Mayor's Nest.
03:58What is a Mayor's Nest? he cries.
04:01There's no such thing, his dad replies.
04:04But find one and bring it to me and I'll happily take you to the sea.
04:10So Rupert looks for his chums without rest and asks them to help him find the Mayor's Nest.
04:16I'll help you, Algy says, let's go and ask them at that farm below.
04:21Algy explains as they draw near, I know that Farmer Green lives here.
04:26The farmer laughs, what a silly request.
04:29You'll never find a real Mayor's Nest.
04:32Just then a bird warns Rupert with alarm.
04:35Give up your search, you'll come to harm.
04:39This frightens Algy and makes him glum.
04:42I'm going home, he tells his chum.
04:45Now, Rupert thinks, I'm worried too.
04:48I'll ask the wise Owl what to do.
04:51He meets the Hedgehog, but the bird returns before they speak a word.
04:56The bird has hurried back again to warn the Bear, but all in vain.
05:01I must find Owl, says Rupert.
05:04So, the Hedgehog shows him where to go.
05:07The Owl says with a solemn stare.
05:10You cannot see a Mayor's Nest, little Bear.
05:14It's getting late as Rupert turns away.
05:17He'll have to leave it for today.
05:20The naughty foxes come dashing by.
05:23A huge bird's chasing us, they cry.
05:26What can they mean?
05:28Then Rupert sees a huge bird fly above the trees.
05:32Now, Rupert cries, what's this I've found?
05:36A disc with broken chain upon the ground.
05:39At home, he shows his dad.
05:42What can it be? Some kind of seal, it seems to me.
05:46He mends the broken chain with care, watched by an eager little Bear.
05:51That night, the birds make such a din, so much so, Mrs. Bear comes running in.
05:58The seal's owner must be found, and so, in the morning, to P.C. Growler it must go.
06:04But Rupert soon has quite a shock.
06:07For birds fly round him in a flock.
06:10It seems just like a horrid dream.
06:13We think you have our seal, they scream.
06:16They push him till he sees once more that fearsome bird he saw flying before.
06:22He does look very cross today. Poor Rupert wants to run away.
06:27He's stopped the foxes taking our eggs.
06:29Do not harm him, the little bird begs.
06:33Then Rupert holds the seal up high, and the huge bird gives a joyful cry.
06:38He proudly wears the seal and chain.
06:41Now he can do his king's work again.
06:44You've helped the messenger for our king.
06:46For you, the birds say, he'll do anything.
06:49Oh good, cries Rupert Bear with glee.
06:52A mare's nest I would like to see.
06:55The king has such a mare, I know.
06:57Climb on my back, and off we'll go.
07:00Without another word, the bird takes flight, with Rupert holding on very tight.
07:06The bird keeps on flying very high, until they reach a palace in the sky.
07:12The chamberlain comes out to see just who this visitor can be.
07:16He hears what Rupert would like to see, and says, ask our king, come with me.
07:22Your Majesty, I've done my very best to find a real mare's nest.
07:28Then I, says the king, will do my best to grant your very strange request.
07:34Two messengers are sent to bring the chamberlain back to see the king.
07:39The king says, you may help this bear, and give him my royal seal to wear.
07:45The chamberlain cries, follow me, and Rupert does so, eagerly.
07:50They go into a large office where a royal seal is given to Rupert Bear.
07:56It will keep you safe, so on your way, a sparrow will lead you without delay.
08:02The way is up a rocky slope, but Rupert follows, full of hope.
08:07There is the nest, the sparrow cries, then hurriedly away he flies.
08:13As Rupert begins to climb the rock, he suddenly has quite a shock.
08:18The nest begins to shake about, and then a horse's head looks out.
08:24The mare has wings and takes to flight. She is a fine and graceful sight.
08:30She lands and speaks to Rupert Bear, I see the royal seal you wear.
08:36I am the king's royal charger, and I carry him about this land.
08:41Oh, thank you, Rupert cries, and now I must climb down the rocks, somehow.
08:47When Rupert comes, the birds fly round.
08:50The king's seals kept him safe and sound.
08:53The little bear stands still and sighs.
08:56I thought of something else, he cries.
08:59I saw that mare's nest, thanks to you, but can my daddy see it too?
09:04The king, on hearing Rupert's plea, says, bring my charger here to me.
09:10He orders fruit for Rupert Bear, while they await the flying mare.
09:15Tonight she'll appear before your dad, what the king says makes Rupert feel glad.
09:21Take this scroll for the birds of Nutwood, the king explains, for being so good.
09:26Now you may fly home on the mare, give the scroll when you are there.
09:31All through the day the mare makes flight, and will not land while it's light.
09:37When darkness falls, she lands with ease on one of Nutwood's birds.
09:42When darkness falls, she lands with ease on one of Nutwood's tallest trees.
09:48Poor Rupert wears a worried frown, he wishes he were safely down.
09:53A dark shape heads for the tree, it's Wise Owl, Rupert shouts with glee.
09:59Your king says this scroll will tell how Nutwood birds have pleased him well.
10:05Rupert runs home with all his might, it is already quite late at night.
10:10When P.C. Growler sees Rupert running alone, he decides to take the young bear home.
10:16How glad his parents are to see him well, and hear the tale he has to tell.
10:21The bird king says, you'll see the mare, tonight the Wise Owl will take us there.
10:27Says Mrs Bear, it's time for bed, be off with you, you sleepy head.
10:33A sound now reaches Rupert's ear, perhaps the Wise Owl is already here.
10:39He hurries down the stairs again to find his father and explain.
10:43It is the owl, he cries with glee, and now the mare's nest you shall see.
10:49Says Mr Bear, it's late you know, but still to please you I will go.
10:56Poor Mrs Bear is worried too, when told what they propose to do.
11:01They find the Wise Owl outside, it's waiting there to be their guide.
11:06He leads them straight back to the tree, the mare's nest is quite plain to see.
11:13The mare flies off as they stand there.
11:16How wonderful! gasps Mr Bear.
11:20Next morning Mr Bear is sure he dreamed it all the night before.
11:25So after breakfast back they go, but now the place they do not know.
11:31They search around but all in vain, they cannot find the nest again.
11:37A tiny bird to Rupert flies.
11:40I'll help you if you like, he cries.
11:43In great excitement off they run.
11:46What luck! laughs Rupert, this is fun.
11:50But when they find the tree, oh dear, the nest has disappeared I fear.
11:56Now when they start to look around, the nest is scattered on the ground.
12:01The bird explains, that's all you'll find, she never leaves her nest behind.
12:07Now Mr Bear says, I agree, you've earned your visit to the sea.
12:13They go to ask that very day about the trains to Rocky Bay.
12:27Rupert has a lucky find, a large pink shell, the pearly kind.
12:33Then straight towards him something flies.
12:36Why, it's a kind of net, he cries.
12:39Big flying fish are carrying it.
12:42He gasps, I don't like this one bit.
12:45The huge net billows overhead.
12:48Why have they stopped? he asks with dread.
12:51Next moment, everything goes dim, the net has dropped right over him.
12:56I can't get out, help, help, he calls.
12:59Then struggling, he trips and falls.
13:02The flying fish take hold once more and Rupert's lifted from the shore.
13:07Across the waves by sea spray stung, as in a hammock Rupert swung.
13:13Curled tightly up, Rupert flies.
13:16Across the waves by sea spray stung, as in a hammock Rupert swung.
13:21Curled tightly up, half dazed with shock, Rupert is swept towards a rock.
13:27Upon the rock he's gently laid, then left there lonely and afraid.
13:33In deep despair he sits and sobs.
13:36Then from the sea the mer-boy bobs.
13:40Rupert, we brought you here to ask if you could do a special task.
13:45King Neptune's Trident, lost a while, was washed up on a lonely isle.
13:50I fear some pirates found it there. Could you retrieve it, little bear?
13:55Asks Rupert.
13:57But what if that band of pirates spy me when I land?
14:01You will be landed secretly. Here comes your steed across the sea.
14:06A goat-like creature, long of horn, approaches.
14:10Tis the Capricorn!
14:13Then from the rock the mer-boy dives to greet the goat as it arrives.
14:19The Capricorn, King Neptune's pet, would take you safely. On you get!
14:25Now Rupert sits astride his steed. He hopes his mission will succeed.
14:30Then, holding tight, off Rupert goes. That Trident must be found, he knows.
14:37The sun is setting when he sees an island crowned with tall palm trees.
14:43I hope no pirates saw us come to land, he whispers as they reach the sand.
14:48When you find the Trident, hold it high. Then I'll come back for you. Goodbye.
14:55Supposing I can't find it. Wait! But Rupert's question comes too late.
15:02So if the Trident I can't trace, that means I'm stranded in this place.
15:08Suppose those pirates heard me shout. No, I don't think they are about.
15:14Dusk deepens fast, so Rupert creeps into a sheltered nook and sleeps.
15:21A squawk wakes Rupert from his dreams, as from blue sky's bright sunshine streams.
15:29He wanders round in search of food and finds some fruit.
15:32My, this tastes good!
15:34A stream flows by a rocky shelf, where Rupert can refresh himself.
15:40He drinks some cool clear water then, turns round and spies some burly men.
15:46The pirates close by in a team, taking water from the stream.
15:52As Rupert tries to make a dash, he's seen and followed in a flash.
15:57Then, suddenly to his alarm, he's swept up by a strong brown arm.
16:03Well, little bear, the pirates smile, you're very welcome to our isle.
16:09The men put Rupert at his ease.
16:12I'm Ben the Boatswain, come this way please.
16:16Those huts are our homes these days, we have no ship, Ben Boatswain says.
16:22You must tell our captain why you're here, he'll help you I'm sure, do not fear.
16:28The captain takes the little bear to his cabin, his tail to here.
16:33What purpose brings you to our isle? the merry captain asks with a smile.
16:39I have been sent to search around, for King Neptune's trident must be found.
16:45Would this be it? the captain beams, as he takes from a sack an object that gleams.
16:51Cries Rupert, that's the one alright, King Neptune's trident, gold and bright.
16:57He'll be so glad to get it back, to think you kept it in that sack.
17:03I'll clean it to a brilliant shine, now run and join those men of mine.
17:08The men, upon a raft-like base, have built a little dwelling place.
17:13Some stilts support a wooden floor, to hold the hut just off the shore.
17:20Now you can stay a nice long time, in your own home, the pirates chime.
17:25Says Rupert, oh you're very kind, but I must leave if you don't mind.
17:31The trident, why has the captain gone, out there with it, what's going on?
17:37Don't throw it, Rupert runs at speed, but the merry captain pays no heed.
17:42Oh my, gasps Rupert, now I'm lost, I needed that at any cost.
17:48But won't King Neptune, goodness me, what is that rising from the sea?
17:54Shiver my timbers, it's retrieved, the trident, if I'm not deceived.
17:59He means to take it to the king, so now you can stop worrying.
18:04But merry captain, Rupert sighs, I needed it, don't you realise?
18:11I had to flash that gleaming spear, to bring the Capricorn back here.
18:16Come on, we'll have to form a plan, my men will help you if they can.
18:21We have no ship and none sails by, says Ben the Boatswain with a sigh.
18:27Our treasure, the captain smiles, a bright gilt plate would flash for miles.
18:35Where is it buried, I forget, then shiver, squawks his parrot pet.
18:42Your bird remembers, Rupert cheers, come on, before he disappears.
18:47The pirates fetch their spades, then take a rough cliff path in Rupert's wake.
18:53Then, with the parrot as their guide, across the palm-clad isle they stride.
18:59This is the tree we marked of old, so dig here, the captain's men are told.
19:05The men set to with all their strength, till Ben strikes something hard at length.
19:10Aye, it is our treasure long hid, the captain says, throw back the lid.
19:16Gold plates and trinkets are revealed, with coins and jewels long concealed.
19:22The gold is dull with age, but wait, I'll polish up this biggest plate.
19:27The plate, rubbed with a handkerchief, is mirror bright beyond belief.
19:32I'll climb this rock, it's not too steep, and flash the plate across the deep.
19:38Flashed in the sun, the plate reflects the signal the Capricorn expects.
19:44Indeed, the Capricorn has seen the glare, and in a moment it is there.
19:49You'd better not be seen just yet, or you may scare King Neptune's pet.
19:55Rupert tells the Capricorn everything, how the trident has gone back to the king.
20:00Then Rupert, we need not delay, I'll take you back to Rocky Bay.
20:06Mind you hold tightly on to me, it's very stormy out at sea.
20:10You cannot ride the Capricorn through stormy seas, the pirates warn.
20:15Cries Ben, although the seas are rough, I know how he'll be safe enough.
20:22These words fill Rupert with new hope, he follows them down the sandy slope.
20:27Ben hurries on until they reach the little hut on the sandy beach.
20:32Rollers are placed beneath the raft, now we can launch Rupert's little craft.
20:38Says Ben, now you'll be safe and sound, even with stormy seas all around.
20:44We'll push you out and then you'll float, directly to your friend the goat.
20:50Then yo-ho, hee-ho, with a song, the pirates push the craft along.
20:56Goodbye and thank you everyone, my visit has been so much fun.
21:02Then on the current Rupert's born, round to the waiting Capricorn.
21:07Why Rupert, that's a good idea, yes I can push you, never fear.
21:13Pushed by the creature as it swims, across the waves the small craft skims.
21:19But now the sky grows overcast, they've run into the storm at last.
21:25The storm throws Rupert right across the craft and makes it pitch and toss.
21:31Though all around the tempest raves, the goat still forges through the waves.
21:37Then all is calm, the sky grows bright and Rocky Bay comes into sight.
21:45A fisherman starts in surprise, at first he cannot believe his eyes.
21:51As Rupert gladly leaps ashore, the Capricorn swims off once more.
21:57This is my hut, it's like a ship, it's sheltered me on my long trip.
22:03Then Rupert hurries off to tell his parents all his news as well.
22:09Where have you been? gasps Mrs Bear.
22:12The coast guard has searched everywhere.
22:15Smiles Rupert when his tale is through.
22:18Now you must see my little hut too.
22:21It's brought these children happiness, I'll leave it as their playhouse, yes.
22:29One day Rupert goes out to see if his friend Margot can come to tea.
22:34Her granny says that she may go, but where she is, she does not know.
22:39As Rupert searches all around, he finds her hanky on the ground.
22:45The rabbits join him, then they hear a hedgehog calling them quite near.
22:51He tells them Margot is close by, so off they go once more to try.
22:56Just look at that! cries Rupert Bear.
22:59A brand new notice board up there.
23:02The rabbits run off into the wood.
23:05Rupert calls them to stop, but it's no good.
23:09When Rupert decides he'll go as well, which path to take, he cannot decide.
23:15A little farther, Rupert sees another notice on the trees.
23:19Then, all at once, he has a shock.
23:22But there is Margot by a rock.
23:25The little girl greets Rupert Bear, then tells him what she's doing there.
23:30She found a little house one day, and now she loves to come and play.
23:35Poor Margot.
23:37What's that? cries Rupert with a frown, as earth and stones come tumbling down.
23:42It's nothing, Margot tells her chum.
23:45Look, there's my lovely house. Do come.
23:48The little bear, with wonder, cries.
23:51Why, everything is just our size.
23:54He runs outside to look around, then calls...
23:57Just look at that!
23:59What's that?
24:01Everything is just our size.
24:04He runs outside to look around, then calls...
24:07Just see what I have found.
24:09But now the shaking starts once more, and this is much worse than before.
24:14Come on! cries Margot. Let us hide.
24:18But Rupert wants to be outside.
24:21He climbs inside a hollow tree, then wonders where his chum can be.
24:26So Rupert hurries to the place, but of the house there is no trace.
24:32A lizard, who is sitting there, says he can help the little bear.
24:37A giant built that house one day, and now he's taken it away.
24:42Poor Margot is inside it still.
24:45So Rupert watches from a hill.
24:48They hurry back to Nutwood now, for he must rescue her somehow.
24:54The lizard says, you must not mind, that giant really is quite kind.
25:00And then he says, the way to go is by the river bank, you know.
25:05The rabbits have a sailing boat, which they can quickly get afloat.
25:10So Rupert hurries home to say where he is going for the day.
25:15Down to the river runs the bear, and finds the twins already there.
25:21Now full of hope, the three set sail, to help their friend, they must not fail.
25:27At last the castle comes in sight, and Rupert gets ashore alright.
25:33He climbs up to the castle wall, but finds no entrance there at all.
25:39And now a waterfall quite near, makes Rupert think there's something queer.
25:45A tunnel through the castle goes, and it's from this the water flows.
25:51I've got my boots, thinks Rupert Bear, there's room for me to walk through there.
25:57He paddles through the stream somehow, then finds he's in the castle now.
26:03A frog is standing by a pail, so Rupert tells him his strange tale.
26:09This kindly frog says he will show the little bear just where to go.
26:14Now Rupert sees upon the floor, the little house he saw before.
26:20He looks inside the house with care, but finds that Margot isn't there.
26:26Oh, where can she be? he sighs. Oh dear!
26:31And then he hears a voice quite near.
26:34They are so pleased to meet again, and footsteps they can hear quite plain.
26:40The chums are scared they will be found, and so they hide without a sound.
26:46But luckily the giant goes by.
26:49We are saved, breathes Rupert with a sigh.
26:53Just then the frog comes back to say that he can help them get away.
26:58The frog explains, just follow me and very soon you shall be free.
27:05He takes them to a great strong door, but there's a hole just by the floor.
27:11The chums squeeze through the hole with ease, then run to shelter beneath the trees.
27:17Who's that? exclaims the little bear.
27:20I think I heard somebody there.
27:23It's Reggie Rabbit who has come to see what's happened to his chum.
27:28Poor Rex and Reggie turn quite pale when Rupert tells his thrilling tale.
27:34The wind's against them now, and so to get to Nutwood they must row.
27:40All Rupert's chums are waiting now, for they have heard the news somehow.
27:45Next day they tell the strange story when Margot comes round for tea.
27:58The End
28:28Thank you for watching!
