00:00Winter on the island of Sodor can be windy and cold.
00:05When the cold wind blows, the engines can't wait to get back to the snug warmth of Tidmouth Sheds.
00:12Bitter cold, bitter cold, bitter cold, chuffed Toby.
00:21Still, I'll soon be back in my nice dry shed.
00:25But suddenly, he could see a farmer standing knee-deep in snow.
00:31He was waving a red flag.
00:33Toby's driver applied the brakes.
00:36My phone lines are down, all the roads are blocked and my sheep have just started lambing, the farmer said.
00:43They're trapped on the hillsides, cut off by the snow.
00:46What can we do to help? Toby chuffed.
00:50I need a vet as quickly as possible.
00:52We'll stop at the next signal box, said Toby's driver.
00:56I'll phone the vet from there.
01:05Toby raced to the signal box and the driver phoned ahead to the station.
01:11The fat controller and the vet were waiting for Toby as he arrived.
01:15The farmer's lambs are stranded on the hillside, cried Toby.
01:18We've got to rescue them.
01:20I'm sure we shall, said the fat controller.
01:23I'll send Duck right away. This is a job for an engine with a snowplough.
01:28Toby knew Duck was the right engine for the job.
01:31He was very powerful.
01:32Hurry, Toby called anxiously as Duck chuffed out of the station.
01:37But so much snow had fallen, the tracks ahead were blocked.
01:44We can't go on, said Duck's driver grimly.
01:47We'll have to go back.
01:50We can't go on, said Duck's driver grimly.
01:54We'll have to go back.
02:06Toby was surprised to see Duck return to the station.
02:09I tried my hardest, puffed Duck, but the weather's getting worse.
02:13Even Duck's snowplough can't get through, said his driver.
02:17Then Toby had an idea.
02:19My old branch line runs out there, sir. Remember?
02:23That's far too dangerous, said the fat controller.
02:26It would never carry Duck's weight.
02:28It might take my weight, said Toby.
02:30And I know that line like the back of my buffers, he added.
02:33It's our only chance to help the newborn lambs.
02:36The fat controller agreed, but he told Toby to be very careful.
02:42Soon a blizzard was howling.
02:46Toby's driver was worried.
02:49I can do it, called Toby, as long as these rails hold.
02:57But Toby had forgotten about the rickety old bridge.
03:10Help! My wheels are wobbling, he cried.
03:14His driver fought for control, as Toby struggled on.
03:20I've got to reach the other side of this bridge, gasped Toby.
03:24Those lambs need me!
03:29The farmer was waiting. It was very cold.
03:34Suddenly, a ghostly glowing eye shone through the snowstorm.
03:39It was Toby's headlamp.
03:44You made it, cried the farmer. What a brave engine you are!
03:49The vet and the farmer went to find the lambs.
03:56But they soon returned.
03:58The newborn lambs are safe and sound, Toby, said the vet.
04:02But we need a place now to keep the little ones warm.
04:05Toby smiled. I think you'll find Henrietta has plenty of room.
04:10Toby stayed for several days, just to make sure the lambs were all right.
04:16The farmer was very grateful.
04:19Thank you, Toby, he said. We couldn't have done it without you.
04:23No, thank you, said Toby.
04:25There's nothing I like better than helping out a friend in need.
