01:07Those and more, right here on The 7.30.
01:10Hello, I am Ben Menopoufong in Yaoundé, welcome to the program.
01:18It is the dawn of a new era in Cameroon's political capital, Yaoundé, inasmuch as potable
01:25water supply is concerned.
01:27The installation of drinking water supply projects that will pump an additional 300,000
01:36cubic meters of water daily into Cameroon's political capital and on and grinding and
01:43since beginning this morning, Cameroon, the Cameroon, or rather the Emanabachenga water
01:49supply project worth close to 400 billion CFE francs received an official launch today
01:56from 185 to 485,000 cubic meters daily.
02:08Mukwele Prince Wiladuma reports on the heavily attended commissioning event as it unfolded
02:15in Pachenga today.
02:19Never has a water project launch been this mobilizing, but because 300,000 cubic meters
02:25of water is both life and crowd-pulling, the Emanabachenga water treatment site stretched
02:30out to this crowd that celebrated the end of water supply deficits in Yaoundé.
02:36The volume which is produced is more than what this population demands.
02:43What you are going to do now is to intensify a campaign of connection of more households.
02:52In their different postures, speakers praised the style of relief completion of the 499
02:58billion project with the Chinese ambassador to Cameroon considering it as a joint poverty
03:03alleviation stride by both his country and Cameroon.
03:07This achievement is feasible and the people are very satisfied to receive this precious
03:20gift from President Paul Biya.
03:23Meanwhile, the Paipis project is considered a major achievement in the nationwide provision
03:29of water.
03:30Beneficiary localities from the fringes to mainland Yaoundé found both a quench of
03:58their thirst and dancing steps in this inaugural.
04:04The drinking water supply project for Yaoundé and its surroundings is maturing at a time
04:10when Yaoundé's daily water need of 250,000 cubic meters was only partly met, a shortfall
04:18that plunged city dwellers into endless water crisis and this for years running.
04:25This lost Samba now weighs in on the expected impact of the project.
04:32Paipis to Yaoundé's inhabitants, more than a name is guaranteed that the constant water
04:39cut the city's inhabitants experience is history.
04:42The project pumps in more than the current needs of 250,000 cubic meters.
04:50Camwater will have 485,000 cubic meters of water every day, meanwhile the actual demand
04:57is 250,000 cubic meters per day.
05:02Water supply becomes higher than daily demand.
05:08With this, salvation from dry taps is imminent not only for the capital city but localities
05:13crossed by the drinking water project like Bachenga, Ntoui, Obala, Nkwometo.
05:29In the long run, it promises to increase supply capacity to 400,000 cubic meters, thus guaranteeing
05:36steady water supply as the population increases exponentially not only in Yaoundé but the
05:42localities on the banks of the project.
05:47And as the multi-billion project causes more taps to flow in the capital city, even in
05:54neighborhoods that have never known the luxury of pipe-borne water for 20 years plus, the
06:01joy is immeasurable.
06:03From Damas to Simbak, from Emana to Ngusso and Messassi, passing through Etoudi and other
06:09neighborhoods, Yaoundé city dwellers are all jubilant about the promises of this project
06:16and they are hopeful that it has come to stay.
06:20Beatrice Lossamba now gauges the reactions as well as the expectations of the populations
06:26of the capital city.
06:31Onanambolo has been the water savior for most residents of Emana-Bonnefontaine.
06:36He fetches water from this borehole and supplies from door to door in exchange of a few coins.
06:43The Natigal Water Project could possibly send him out of business just like it could rekindle
06:49hope for residents of Yaoundé who have learned to live with the problem of water scarcity.
07:07With the distribution phase of the water launched, residents wish that rationing becomes a thing
07:13of the past and taps flow again.
07:36Water is life. Without water you cannot do anything. We can live in darkness but we cannot live without water.
07:42I hope with the launch of this Natigal project, everything will come to normal because people
07:47are really in need of water. Water is life so we won't be having scarcity of water and
07:53in fact everyone will be happy.
07:55Although some believe problems of dry taps could be definitely resolved with the operationalization
08:00of the Pi-Peace project, others off-camera have remained skeptical.
08:30The half-hour discussion between the Prime Minister-Head of Government, Joseph Diangute,
08:47and the Executive Director of the World Bank Group, Abdul Salam Bello, focused on the relations
08:52between Cameroon and the World Bank. The two officials examined the new partnership framework
08:57of the World Bank Group for the period 2025 to 2029 and reflected on ways of making it
09:03performant in Cameroon.
09:05We discussed how we can make the best of it for its alignment with the S&D 2030 on one
09:11hand but also with the Vision 2035 to make sure that we receive the best allocation possible
09:17and we implement in the best effective way.
09:20Cameroon's performance, challenges and perspectives in critical sectors like infrastructure,
09:26routes and connectivity was also a key point of interest during the meeting. The energy potential
09:32of the country was described as a major trump card for growth.
09:36We believe that the country has a tremendous potential to position itself as a regional
09:42hub in terms of energy for the people of Cameroon but also looking at the opportunity to do
09:48some export of that energy in the region.
09:51The Executive Director representing Cameroon at the World Bank Board of Directors, Abdul
09:55Salam Bello, at the end of the audience, described relations between his institution and Cameroon
10:01as excellent and development-oriented.
