00:00Hello there, Lee Sobot at the Yorkshire Evening Post here from Hillsborough where Leeds United
00:06are finally up and running with a first win of the new championship season at the third
00:10attempt and a very impressive victory really. Only 2-0 but much more impressive than that
00:15really as the Whites recorded a 2-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday. Goals in the 24th minute
00:20from the returning man Brendan Aronson, a lovely, lovely goal that people can watch
00:24that back as many times as they like. It was an absolutely lovely team goal. And then a
00:28goal three minutes after the break from Dan James which in itself was a lovely goal as
00:31well. Absolutely brilliant through ball from Matteo Joseph. You can't go a better through
00:35ball than that. And that was it, 2-0 and a clean sheet and three points and there were
00:39loads of chances for others really. I think you've got to give Sheffield Wednesday credit.
00:43They did cause threats themselves at times, especially at set-pieces but ultimately Leeds
00:47held firm and did so pretty well really from those set-pieces and definitely dominated
00:53possession, had a lot more chances and I think it's very, very hard to argue anything other
00:57than they deserved a 2-0 win here, possibly even a little bit more. So obviously now they
01:02are underway with this first one of the season. Suddenly things look a little bit better.
01:06Obviously coming into this game with just two points out of a possible six, obviously
01:10Leeds should have beaten Portsmouth on the opening day of the season. They had the performance
01:13to do that but it doesn't matter because they only got a point from it. A point at West
01:17Brom in its own right is probably quite a good result really but obviously didn't look
01:20that good on the back of the Portsmouth draw. But now three points here and obviously this
01:25is a tough place to come to. Leeds were the last team to have won here actually, so they've
01:29done it again now. And as I say, Leeds now on five points out of a possible nine and
01:33obviously they had the League Cup defeat but they are unbeaten in the league after three
01:36games. So you would hope the only way is up. Obviously it's all going to be about the new
01:40signings next week. Transfer deadline is 11pm on Friday. Largi Ramazzani obviously signed
01:45at the weekend, too early to feature in this game but he looks a very, very exciting winger
01:49obviously and will surely be a first-choice starter in time. You would think he looks
01:53very, very exciting, seen as Klaus Enzio Somerville's replacement. But obviously now
01:57it very much depends on what else Leeds can do this window. You feel like they probably
02:01need to do probably another three more. Another attacking player obviously, the small amount
02:05of replacing Giorgino Routier. Another midfielder, someone who can get forward a little bit more
02:10and probably full-back cover as well. And then whether there's anything else happening
02:13obviously Leeds will have to keep hold of the players as well. Always speculation about
02:17Nanto but he was one player who was excellent tonight. There were lots of players who were
02:20excellent and he was one of them. Got a booking pretty early on and he worried then maybe
02:24a little bit but he really got his head down, stuck to it. A few features tonight. Leeds'
02:28press was brilliant I thought, really, really. And Sheffield Wednesday's faces with some
02:32of their pressing, that was excellent to see. Matteo Joseph, very strong performance up
02:36front, didn't get a goal but his hold-up play was excellent. Absolutely superb. And
02:40walked away with two assists as well because the first goal, he was about to pull the trigger
02:44when he was taken out but the ball still fell to Aronson who still had work to do and did
02:49very well to finish that off. So he's another plus point tonight, Aronson getting that goal.
02:53Joseph up front, he even got a chant now in the Rodrigo Moreno chant being refurbished
02:59under his name which was nice to see. And that away end which is now empty behind me,
03:02they had a brilliant night. They were just singing all evening and thoroughly enjoyed
03:06seeing their team get up and running. I think obviously there'd have been a lot of frustration
03:09had they not even got a draw here this evening. But this was basically much, much more like
03:14it and I think I even said that first goal reminded me a little bit of Marcelo Bielsa's
03:18Leeds but I won't get too carried away. But it was a very, very nice move, the first goal.
03:21One touch, bang, bang, bang, passing and then, as I say, Joseph was about to pull the trigger
03:26and Aronson still had work to do and just finished it with aplomb. So lots to be positive
03:31about tonight. Ampadu very good in midfield, the defence obviously stood firm at the back
03:35as well. So yeah, loads and loads of positives and now on to what is the last game before
03:40the international break, amazingly, this weekend at home to Hull. Obviously if Leeds can get
03:44a victory in that, that will suddenly be eight points out of a possible 15, which is looking
03:48a lot, lot better. Obviously they are still playing catch-up to a degree but it's very
03:52early days and I think the overall takeaway here is that it looks like this is what you
03:56wanted to see, something like this this evening. A convincing performance, obviously three
04:00points and Leeds United up and running. Hopefully now the only way is up, an absolutely huge
04:04week though, the transfer window and the whole game. But the first win of the season is finally
04:08in the bag as it's finished here. Sheffield Wednesday nil, Leeds United two.
