00:00If your money's on mobility this one's a pretty safe bet. Here's a look at the
00:04Mattel Master Universe Origins Night Stalker Evil Armored Battle Steed.
00:31This Evil Armored Battle Steed might be He-Man's nightmare but our Night Stalker
00:36is a collector's dream come true. Combining vintage looks with 18 points
00:39of articulation and numerous battle accessories, our evil equine is ready to
00:43storm Castle Grayskull, strike terrifying poses and take Origins figures along for
00:47the ride. They're gonna seriously tell me no one at Mattel ever thought to call
00:51this thing nightmare. It literally is a reference to horses. Either way though
00:56before we get a closer look that Night Stalker the Evil Armored Battle Steed
00:59we're gonna grab the tape measure and what we're gonna do is we're gonna
01:02measure this a couple of different ways. We're first gonna measure from the tail
01:05to the front of its snout then we're gonna measure it from the hooves to the
01:07top of the head. Based on that let's start things first by spinning this
01:11around. We're gonna again start where we started first with describing this. We're
01:14gonna start at the tail and we're gonna work our way to the front of its snout.
01:17Nightmare. You're looking at Night Stalker either way being about 11 inches
01:23in length and that translates to a vehicle if you will about 28 centimeters
01:28long. Then from its hooves to the top of its head you're looking at it being
01:31about 8 inches in height or about 20 centimeters tall. Now Night Stalker
01:36wasn't a new idea for the Mass Universe Origins line. No. In fact back in the
01:41early 80s it was simply just a recasting of the original Stridor which is
01:45essentially what then Mattel has done for the Origins line. If you're looking
01:48at the two beasts, the two steeds, you can see that they're pretty much almost
01:51exactly the same. There has been a few different obviously color choices made
01:55from one to the other. Some different sticker applications also as well but
01:59even things like the head seem almost exactly the same. It's just simply just a
02:03swap out of different colors. If you were in the know for the things that came
02:05packed along with Stridor then you'll be fairly familiar with the things now
02:09that come included with Night Stalker as essentially the accessories are
02:11basically the exact same. There's some color obviously swapping out here and
02:15then of course when it comes to the main display base the display base very much
02:18is different than the one we got included with the previous horse. The one
02:21that we actually get here for Night Stalker does involve a little bit of
02:24assembly. This back fence area actually was already attached so you didn't have
02:28to worry about that but the slightly smaller mossier version actually did
02:31require you have to take this out of the packaging and this slots in place by two
02:35provided holes. It basically says that it's a one-time assembly. Some of these
02:40pieces I would question really wanted to remove these just because again you may
02:43start to fracture the plastic. It does also require in fact adding the neck
02:48adjustment piece which was again the exact same as we got with Stridor. I just
02:51wanted to show you guys though the differences between the two bases.
02:53Obviously one was treated more to look like Castle Greyskull. Obviously the
02:57terrain here for Night Stalker looks very much more like resembling the
03:00terrain for Snake Mountain but you can see though the differences between the
03:04two. Night Stalker does get afforded a much bigger display base than the one we
03:07got from Stridor. The fences are a little bit different from one another. Also here
03:11as well you can probably notice that I've removed the neck. Generally when it
03:14came to displaying Stridor next to Castle Greyskull I usually just left
03:17this off because I just thought it made a little bit more sense to dock the
03:20horse with that without having to worry about this getting in the way of
03:22things. I might probably do something very similar but again I don't know how
03:26often I would really want to remove these just because again removing it and
03:30reattaching it there's just this little thin layer of plastic keeping the tab
03:34plate piece in place. Constantly removing I'm sure after a while will start the
03:39fracture of this and I'm sure if you're not too careful you might end up
03:41ultimately breaking it. Still though I'm probably gonna leave it off. It just
03:44means unfortunately it's gonna be left behind and now whole here. I kind
03:48of wish though that they could have included and I don't know if I had said
03:51this in the review of Stridor just a little rectangular piece of plastic. If
03:55you did want to leave this off you're then not having to see an unsightly hole.
03:58You just take the rectangular piece of plastic fit this over and you
04:02basically get then a fairly you know again consistent looking terrain without
04:06having to worry about a big unsightly square there. I know it's a rectangle.
04:10This by the way though is you just snap this in place and the peg on the end
04:14does have some bit of swiveling. It's very hard of a ratchet joint. You then
04:19take the undercarriage of the horse and I did notice though you had to put a
04:22fair bit of pressure a fair bit of force on the horse in order to get this in
04:27place. Basically just take it on top and then you snap it in place and then you
04:32can get yourself the horse and just arch it back a little bit. Bring back the hind
04:36legs and then you of course you can get yourself Night Stalker to look like it's
04:40up on its hind legs. A nice way granted to be displaying it but a lot of times
04:44again I just would probably have it on it's all on its fours rather than its
04:47twos. Just detaching this. This again just felt like it felt
04:52more like I needed more force this time to do this than I had to worry about
04:56with striders. Anyways though again it's just gonna plug into that little hole
04:59right there. You probably could see the hole if I got my blasted finger out of
05:02the way. It's right there. See the hole right there. Just move the base out
05:07of the way. We'll get the horse back in its stance position. Bring his legs a
05:12little bit further forward. There we go. The other accessories that come included
05:16with this is you get these blast effects. Now the blast effects are done
05:19here in red. To compare it though with the one that we got with the earlier
05:22horse, striders was blue. You could really if you wanted to you could use the
05:27blue but I think the red pops a lot nicer with the backdrop of the purple.
05:30They work the exact same way and again you get three of these. They don't really
05:34look like honestly that they are all that different from one another. I mean
05:37again you probably could look at this and nickel and dime the mold and think
05:40that they are all different but I think that would make no sense really that
05:43Mattel would just cast three different molds. Why would they do that? That's
05:47extra this. They're not willing to spend extra this. Tiny little birds? No no that
05:52one's not tiny little birds but what you'll do though is that these cannons
05:56were something I already attached on to the horse. These basically just there's a
06:00hole right here. You just take the more nubby end of this stub little tab piece.
06:05The longer end is actually gonna be serving more as a handle although I
06:08never really used them as handles and that basically just plugs in place. You
06:11do that on both sides and by virtue of that you get a little bit of
06:13posability as well but you just take these blast effects and there's no
06:18real technical way to describe this literally it's just you just ram it over
06:22top of the end of the nozzle. I think you probably could have found a much easier
06:25way much more professional way of saying that but basically it's just a it's a
06:30softer bit of plastic and you're just forcing it over the nozzle like that.
06:36Then of course there is one on the back here this little turret does rotate back
06:40and forth. We'll talk more about that when it comes to the posability end of
06:42things. Just move the tail out of the way. I don't know I mean that's pretty close
06:45to a tail. This thing is robotic but I would imagine it probably doesn't like
06:48the idea of getting its tail blasted by fire. This by the way is a softer plastic
06:53but you know you get a little cannon there on the back. Let's remove those
06:58right now. Generally when it came to Ulster Strider I never really had the
07:02figures displayed with these. I'm just gonna put them back in the bag. Probably
07:06in fact the exact same bag that had all of Strider's extra accessories. Ulster
07:10gets itself some reins and the reins are exactly the same. Not Roman reins but
07:14you get the reins. These are ropes. It's one rope basically a continuous rope and
07:18then you got the handles on the end of it. Like though with Striders all you'll
07:21really do is you'll take the horse open wide and all you'll do then is take
07:27yourself... is that the bridle? I think it's the reins. You just basically take the
07:31reins you fit it into its mouth and now really all you need is someone to sit
07:34inside the cockpit. There is also again the replacement... you want to look at
07:40those before we bring in a figure. You get two variations of the helmet and
07:44actually they're the exact same configurations. Two different versions of
07:47the helmet that Strider also got as well. Strider's was red. Night Stalker's of
07:52course again night little hyphen mare. Night mare. I'm sure that somebody must
07:57have tossed that idea around. I just thought Night Stalker made more sense.
08:01The exact same mold. I wanted to see that there was a difference between the two. I
08:05can't see a difference. Can you see a difference? Price is the difference.
08:09Anybody knows what that's from? You can let me know. I'm not saying it because I
08:12want to trick and test you guys. I honestly can't remember what that's from.
08:15What price is the difference? What's the difference? Price is the difference.
08:18Basically you get this version of the piece that goes over top of its head and
08:23then you got one that already basically starts with the horse. Just remove that
08:26right now. Actually though the original 19... I want to say 1985 Night Stalker. I
08:31might be wrong by that date. It had neither really one of these. In fact I
08:34think the horse only just had the gold that was on the head and then basically
08:38just added pieces. I think it came into play perhaps with the Master Universe
08:41Classics line. But again you basically get two versions of them. One has the
08:46horn. One has just the regular piece. Though to compare it... I'm just gonna
08:50slide this one over and I'm gonna bring back in... no no no no no don't want to
08:54drop the pieces. I'm gonna bring back in Strider. Strider for a whole while and
08:58probably will continue to do this. I actually have this one with this piece
09:02with this helmet. Is it a helmet? I would say so. I have it
09:07usually displayed with this. I suppose if I did want to differentiate them from
09:11one to the other I probably would display maybe with Night Stalker either
09:14as you see right now or probably displaying it with the horn so that
09:17again there's even more differences between the two. Whether you go with this
09:20one is completely up to you. But basically there's a hole on either side
09:24and that just fits basically over top of its ears just like that. Or again if you
09:29wanted to you can just pop this off. I know this is a simple simple tutorial
09:34how to replace a horse's helmet and that basically just you can do that one as
09:37well. But again like this one I think is just too close to resembling Strider. I
09:41would rather instead just to have this displayed with I think the horn the one
09:45that has the horn instead just because it looks a little bit more different.
09:47Again you got Strider. Again you got Night Stalker. Again essentially you've
09:51got the exact same mold from one to the other. Other than really just again like
09:55the color changes between the two. So we'll just move this one again out of the
09:58way. Getting though a closer look at this there's a whole lot of cool gold
10:02going on here. This is also gold plastic and I think we've it's been a while we
10:06can also also talk about gold plastic syndrome. One thing that was really
10:10plaguing a lot of figures in like the late 90s to early 2000s things that were
10:14made of gold plastic were known to getting brittle and snapping. Since then
10:17I'm sure they have perfected gold plastic. I don't think you're gonna have
10:20ever really those worries and there's really to be fair nothing that's gonna
10:23be moving around in this. This could also have really been painted. Again looking
10:26at the way that the body is yeah it's probably been it's probably been cast
10:30here in black plastic and in fact gone in there and painted gold because
10:33obviously they're not gonna take two halves and put them together. So you've
10:36got a black body scratch that black body and then all the all the inner workings
10:40all the main details on the front done in gold or simply just painted in gold
10:43not gold plastic. Sticker application there on the front. Sticker applications
10:47here on the side. Sticker applications also on the inside cockpit and again
10:52you don't wanna get too close to that. Don't wanna get too close to that. Of
10:56course you got the back the tail does have some posability. We'll talk again
10:59all more about the posability more in a second. The thing we all really need
11:02though is the fact that we do have ourselves a steed. We need as well
11:05someone's gonna sit inside the steed. Now if you base it on a lot of the
11:08marketing really for Night Stalker back in the early 80s I don't know why they
11:12always seem to want to pick Jitsu as sort of the one that sits inside the
11:15horse. Jitsu this just again happens to be the origins version of Jitsu. I still
11:20don't know why my head on Jitsu is super loose but anyways if you want to
11:24stick sort of I don't want to say to the canon but more again to the marketing of
11:28Night Stalker it always seemed to be the case that they want to put Jitsu inside
11:31so we're just gonna kind of we don't want to fully bend the legs we just want
11:34to have them a little bit more relaxed and essentially what you'll do there's
11:39real no rhyme or reason it's just a case there's the inside cavity of the horse
11:43and you're just gonna have to find something to fit inside of that. Doesn't
11:47sound right at all. Just take Jitsu though and we're just gonna sit in
11:50inside the horse and just again get him as far down as there in there as you
11:55possibly can. Unfortunately though with Jitsu, Jitsu doesn't have gripping
11:58hands on both sides. He has of course the karate chopping hand. That's not the
12:02sign of karate chopping hand would make. So he really only has the means to hold
12:05the reins in one hand. Just plug that in place like that and then again for the
12:10other one you can just kind of do what I did at the beginning of this review you
12:12sort of can I don't know if you want to drape it around his hand that just
12:15doesn't really look like he's holding on to much of anything but that's the way
12:18generally like in the 80s they had a lot of times pictures depicting night
12:21stalker was usually with Jitsu. If you wanted to go instead obviously with this
12:26being Skeletor's steed. I just happen to have myself here battle armor Skeletor.
12:30We're just gonna again take Jitsu out. Sorry Jitsu for what little time you
12:34spend on this channel. We're just gonna bend Skeletor's legs. Just bend his knees
12:38just a little bit. You don't need to bend them super super much. Just slide
12:41Skeletor inside. You want to again make sure that when you're fitting him inside
12:45you want to kind of just bend the knees. You don't really want to have them
12:49straight. You don't want to have them fully bent. You kind of want to meet
12:51somewhere in the middle and then once those are met in the middle yeah you
12:55just take Skeletor fit him inside. Skeletor is really gonna still face the
12:58same problem as Jitsu. He doesn't have one big giant karate chopping hand but
13:01he does have a monster hand so there again really isn't a way for him to
13:05properly hold the reins that way. So we'll just take one of the reins this
13:08time on the opposite side. Plug under one side and then we'll just take the
13:11other one and just kind of you know I don't know yeah kind of have it like
13:14that or really two. There's also a loop right here and that can also fit as well
13:19around monster hands like that. So really Skeletor almost even looks like he's
13:23gone working out of the gym. But again that's what it would look like obviously
13:28with a motu figure sitting inside the horse. Now for the figures articulation
13:33or the vehicles articulation if you want to consider the horse that. Let's also as
13:37well remove the reins. We'll just take that off right now. Wilbur just put it off to
13:42the side. For the articulation on the horse it's basically gonna be the exact
13:45same as Strider. So again if you're familiar with Strider you can be familiar
13:48with Night Stalker. The side cannons do move. Would you consider that
13:51articulation? I would consider that posability. The posability on the pony
13:55far being from a pony there's a ball joint essentially right here so
14:00the head right away can move back and forth. There is also as one here
14:04you can swivel back and forth but this isn't gonna really move up and down all
14:08that much. So the one the collar piece that's closest to the body is the part
14:12that's gonna swivel back and forth. Then you have this part that's gonna move
14:15back and forth. You're gonna have as well the head that's also gonna move up down
14:18back and forth. I suppose you as well you could count the mouth. The mouth does
14:24open and close. There's no teeth. There's no tongue. There's nothing inside other
14:27than just the means to hold the reins but that does have some posability there
14:31as well. For the back of the tail, the tail does move back and forth. There is
14:35also as well the turret that does rotate. The legs themselves are on ratchet joints
14:39and they're really tight. They've always really been tight with Strider. They
14:42continue to be tight here with Night Stalker. They click clickety click barb a
14:48trick clickety clack. It's a clickety clack barb a back. Anyways nobody gets
14:52that reference. You can move it back and forth like that. There's also as well
14:55posability here at play in the I guess the knee area of the horse and there's
14:59articulation here as well for the hooves. That's times four. So one two
15:03three and four all continue over the same levels of posability. So all in all
15:07like again it's just a casting really of the original Strider but anyone that
15:12really was in the know I was in the know who had maybe the original Strider as a
15:15kid or who had benefited maybe not having as a kid but as an adult with
15:19some disposable this tiny little birds no not tiny little birds those that had
15:24maybe the money now to pick up Strider knew eventually sooner rather than later
15:28Mattel would then probably just use the mold again and we got ourselves Night
15:31Stalker and that's essentially what they've done. Night Stalker right now is
15:35available over on Mattel's site and most of the time usually when I've looked at
15:39reviews like this I always tend to be the bearer of the bad news and say that
15:42yeah if you guys are interested long since sold out I don't happen to have
15:47the chance to say that because I think Night Stalker is still currently
15:49available over on Mattel site for around 50 I think it's in fact $50 Canadian
15:53gonna be a little bit less than US prices but again if you were a big fan
15:57or just familiar with the horse obviously from like the early 80s Night
16:01Stalker again just basically just the bad guy version of the original good
16:05guys horse but again a nice welcomed addition to your Master Universe
16:09collection some of you may not know this but Skeletor has had Night Stalker ever
16:13since it was a pony oh sad to say though that the Steve was always sick and known
16:17for coughing as a boy Skeletor was worried that his Night Stalker was gonna
16:21die so he took it to the attorney and doctor and he said doctor doctor my pony
16:25Night Stalker won't stop coughing is he gonna die well the doctor looked at the
16:29little boy then looked at Night Stalker and said no your pony isn't gonna die
16:32it's just a little horse that's a little bit of Master Universe horse humor for
16:37you back though to the rotating rotisserie as you can see I've got
16:41battle armor Skeletor sitting inside the cavity of the horse that's that's a bit
16:44disturbing even really when you think about it I understand the fact that this
16:47is a mechanical horse but just the idea that the character sitting inside of it
16:51like you just sliced open a warm tauntaun could you imagine if he man sat
16:56inside the cavity of battle cat okay can let's we just can move away from that
16:59Strider that had something very similar that you have the adjustable neck that
17:03can plug into the undercarriage of the horse though like Strider I'm not likely
17:07gonna be displaying the horse upright like this I like that Mattel included
17:11this option but like those Strider I kind of like the idea that it's parked
17:14alongside Castle Grayskull like it's just a parked car somebody just waits to
17:18go up you have to unarm the horse of course and of course the horse is on its
17:22merry little way probably gonna be in something similar although unfortunately
17:25unlike Castle Grayskull that's set up right now in my collection room my snake
17:29mountain is right now relegated inside of its box the only reason why I haven't
17:33put together snake mountain yet is just I'm looking at again the lay of the land
17:36I don't even know where I'm gonna be putting this thing eventually when I do
17:39put it together like Strider I think Night Stalker is just gonna be parked
17:43alongside snake mountain the figure is nicely displayed the figure is nicely
17:47detailed and the figure is decently posable but if you go back to the
17:50original what 1985 release of Night Stalker which again was just a remolding
17:54essentially of Strider it didn't really have as much possibility at play one
17:58thing it didn't also have was the two different replaceable helmets the
18:02original one would have just had the gold and the black for the face so
18:05that's one thing I think was introduced with the Maddie Collector version of
18:08Strider and it's sort of been the ever since just a pattern ever since for all
18:12the future releases I think though with Strider not having the helmet that has
18:16the horn on the end of it just to differentiate one from the other I think
18:20I'm probably gonna display though with Night Stalker the helmet that has the
18:23horn just so one looks even more different from the other the blasters
18:26are very similar in fact they're the exact same mold the body is the same
18:29mold and even has the same matching blast effects even though this one done
18:33in casting of red the original Strider would have been done in blue what do you
18:36guys don't think of Night Stalker did you really have did you originally have
18:40the first release of Night Stalker way back in the 80s or is this one that
18:44you've now picked up either with the Maddie Collector release or now that
18:46we're getting with the Origins line overlooking horrible bad dad jokes aside
18:50if you guys did enjoy this video I want to throw it a like why not you're not
18:53doing anything else I'd like to think and of course horse of course if you
18:57guys did want to stick around for more hit that subscribe turn on the bell
19:01come back please as always guys thanks for watching see you guys next time
19:14you
