00:00Tupac Assemblyman Fazruddin Abdul Rahman has questioned why Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong
00:07Cheng Jen did not take up the rising flight costs between Sarawak and the peninsula with
00:12his party boss, Transport Minister Lok Siu Fok.
00:15Fazruddin, who is also Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg's political secretary,
00:20said aviation matters fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government.
00:24Perplexed as to why Chong did not simply reach out to his federal counterpart,
00:28Fazruddin said it would have been easier given his personal connections
00:32to the minister, who is from the same party.
00:35He also pointed out that despite initial doubts, there now seems to be support from
00:40the opposition for the Sarawak government's proposed takeover of mass wings.
00:44Fazruddin said Chong's comments showed that there was support, even from the opposition,
00:49for Sarawak to have its own airline due to pressing needs in air connectivity.
00:53The Sarawak-owned airline is slated to commence operations in 2025.
00:58Yesterday, Chong issued a statement urging the Sarawak government to provide a clear
01:02timeframe for the proposed takeover of mass wings, which he said appears to have been delayed.
