00:00Senators inquired about several films which the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, or MTRCB, classified as X-rated,

00:09as well as a film with a very different depiction of the Prince of Darkness during today's hearing on the agency's budget.

00:16Meanwhile, a lawmaker made a suggestion to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, or DHSUD.

00:23Danielle Manalistas gives us the details to all of that in this report.

00:30During the Senate budget hearing, and the MTRCB's turn to face the Senators,

00:35the issue of certain films receiving an X-rated classification, like the Alipato at Moog, was taken up to include the controversial film Dear Satan.

00:45The MTRCB explained their move.

00:47To make it clear, Mr. Chairman, we have given them an exemption permit asked by the CCP for the Cinemalaya Film Festival.

00:59In the judgment of the Board, the film tends to undermine the faith and confidence of the people in their government or duly constituted authorities.

01:11So far, producers of Alipato at Moog already applied for a second review.

01:16But for Soto, her Christian values seem to have gotten in the way of a more artistic, objective review and fair evaluation of the Dear Satan film.

01:26I am offended as a Christian.

01:29Demonic?

01:31No, it is not demonic, but it has a different depiction of Satan becoming good. Satan will never ever be good.

01:42The idea was a little girl was writing to Santa Claus, but she misspelled Santa for Satan, and it was Satan who received her wish.

01:52It was also found to be violative of the presidential decree of 1986.

01:58The Senate Subcommittee on Finance also tackled the proposed budget of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development,

02:06wherein Senator Raul de la Rosa suggested the department should reach out more to the poor, especially in times of calamities, to help in times of need.

02:16I'm not criticizing how you disperse your money, how you use your money.

02:21How can we reach out to the poor so that we can help them?

02:28Our regional directors reached out to local government units affected, like the one that Karina went through.
