Cause of Budameru Floods : బెజవాడను ముంచెత్తిన వరదకు అసలు కారణం భారీ వర్షాలతోపాటు - బుడమేరు ప్రవాహం క్రమబద్ధీకరణ కాకపోవడమే. అందులో నీరంతా కొల్లేరులోకి వెళ్తుంది. ఎన్ని వాగులు, వంకలు పొంగినా - నీటిని తీసుకునే సామర్థ్యం ఉన్న కొల్లేరు సహజ స్వరూపం ఇప్పుడు మారిపోయింది. కొల్లేరు కబ్జాలతో వరద నీరు వేగంగా వెళ్లే పరిస్థితి లేదు. విజయవాడ మీదుగా 150 కిలోమీటర్ల దిగువకు బుడమేరు ప్రవాహం వేగంగా ప్రవహించే అవకాశం లేదు. దిగువకు వరద వెళ్లే పరిస్థితి లేకపోవడానికి గత ప్రభుత్వం పూర్తిగా ఆధునికీకరణ పనులను అటకెక్కించిన నిర్లక్ష్యమే కారణం. 2005-06లో బుడమేరు వరదల తర్వాత దాని ప్రవాహాన్ని పోలవరం కుడి కాలువలోకి మళ్లించారు. కానీ కృష్ణానదిలో వరద ఉంటే అందులోని నీరు నదిలోకి వెళ్లదు. డ్రెయిన్‌ బఫర్‌ జోన్‌ అంతా ఆక్రమణలే కావడం ఇప్పుడు ఇంతటి ఇబ్బంది తెచ్చింది.
