00:00A young woman moves into the farmhouse of her dreams, and soon finds out she has company.
00:15I always thought it was the old man that died there.
00:19How much fear can she take?
00:23I'm warning you, you're in danger, he's not happy.
00:28I was gonna be in my dream home and nothing was gonna stop me from being there.
00:33And how far will the entity go?
00:36There is something there, something that is not friendly.
00:40Before she finally gets the message.
00:49In America, there is real evil.
00:53It lurks in the darkest shadows and in our most ordinary towns.
01:00Between the worlds we see and the things we fear, there are doors, when they are opened,
01:12nightmares become reality.
01:26In October of 2008, 24-year-old Jennifer Patterson prepares for a housewarming party
01:32in her new home.
01:33I knew I'd find you somewhere.
01:34It didn't take very long for me to know that this was the house that I wanted.
01:49The sale price was pretty attractive, but the charm that the house had was what was
01:53hook, line and sinker.
01:56There are still items left in the house that belong to the previous owner.
02:02There were a lot of knickknacks and, like, old Christmas decorations and old encyclopedias
02:08left in the basement.
02:10Well, that's cute.
02:14I could find use for this.
02:29The house was just adorable.
02:44It had wooden beams in the ceiling and had this brick on one of the walls and had big
02:51open windows and it was just beautiful.
02:54I loved it.
02:56The house sits on five acres of land on the outskirts of Warsaw.
03:01The privacy of the house was really nice.
03:04I mean, the neighbor lived on the other side of a line of trees.
03:09You can go downtown and you would know everybody.
03:12There isn't a stranger in this town.
03:16Sarah is Jennifer's best friend.
03:20Me and Jen, we've known each other basically our entire lives.
03:23She's like my sister.
03:25There's no closer family you can get.
03:28I was so excited for her when she bought her house.
03:31This was really Jen's first step in becoming her own person.
03:46Jennifer?
03:49Jennifer?
03:55Hello?
04:04You scared me.
04:06It's about time you showed up.
04:08Well, I'm sorry it took me so long to get here.
04:10You live out in the middle of nowhere.
04:12But did you see the yard and all those huge trees?
04:15I love it. Just love it.
04:18Yeah, I saw the trees. I'm really glad you're happy.
04:21When I first walked into the house,
04:23it was one of those feelings that something was kind of off.
04:30Did the dead flies come with the house?
04:35Again?
04:37There was like 50 dead flies.
04:41There was like 50 dead flies on the floor.
04:46They just keep appearing.
04:49And in the same spot too.
04:52I don't know where they're coming from.
04:55Weird. Well, let's get a broom and we'll clean them up.
04:58Let's get this party started, shall we?
05:00Yeah?
05:11What's going on?
05:13What's going on?
05:17I don't know.
05:34What's that?
05:42Excuse me. Do I know you?
05:45No, you don't.
05:47I'm a friend of a friend.
05:49From the moment I came into this house, I had a feeling.
05:54There's a spirit here, and he wants you out of this house.
05:59You and everyone here are not welcome.
06:03What are you talking about?
06:05There's somebody in here that doesn't want us here?
06:07In my house?
06:09He told me he is sensitive.
06:12And there was a man and a woman in my house.
06:17The woman was just a dainty little lady, but the man was very angry.
06:21I'm warning you.
06:23You're in danger.
06:26He's not happy.
06:40Hey, Jen. Hey, you look like you've seen a ghost.
06:44Jen.
06:47Something really weird just happened.
06:50There's this creepy guy, and he was talking about how there's a spirit here, and he wants us out, and he just disappeared.
07:01What guy?
07:04Jen, what's going on with this place?
07:06That was when I started getting concerned.
07:09It's just one of those things that you can't ignore.
07:12Come on, Sarah, don't look at me that way.
07:15Just some creepy guy.
07:17Probably somebody trying to play a prank on me.
07:21I just kind of blew him off.
07:23I mean, I didn't believe in that kind of stuff really.
07:26Even if I had believed him, I wasn't going to go anywhere.
07:30I was going to be in my dream home, and nothing was going to stop me from being there.
07:38But Jennifer's new house is full of surprises.
07:51I got this huge whiff of aftershave,
07:55and I thought that was kind of weird because there was nothing in the house that would have smelled like that.
08:11I looked in the cabinets.
08:13I looked even in the hall closet to see if this aftershave was left behind.
08:17And nothing.
08:25Nothing.
08:41I would hear her talking.
08:45The voices were muffled, like somebody is having a conversation,
08:51but I couldn't understand what they were saying.
08:54Living by yourself in the middle of nowhere in a new house can be scary hearing any kind of noise.
09:24I want to hear what she's talking about.
09:55I kept telling myself, oh, you're tired. You've been working a lot.
09:59It's a new house.
10:01I just pretty much let it go at that point.
10:25Jennifer's House
10:31Jennifer's House
10:52Soon after Jennifer's housewarming party, she invites her friend Sarah over for dinner.
11:01Oh, come on, Sarah. One more glass.
11:04Uh, this late already? I've really got to go home.
11:10Oh, no. No, no. Uh-uh. You are staying right here.
11:14Because there is still some wine left in this bottle, and you are going to help me finish it.
11:19I really shouldn't, Jennifer. It's a long way back to my place.
11:22Don't be ridiculous. Just stay the night.
11:25I've got a guest bedroom. It's all set up and everything.
11:28Sarah thinks the house may be haunted.
11:31I chose not to say anything because I didn't want to make a big deal or make something that it wasn't.
11:38Okay. As long as a ghost don't keep me up.
11:49Sure enough, Sarah is unable to sleep.
12:29Jennifer's House
12:36Jennifer?
12:38Hey, are you awake?
12:46I went back into the hallway, and I looked at all the doors.
12:50All the doors were shut.
12:58I could hear two separate sounding voices.
13:01It was just constant murmuring back and forth, like mumbling.
13:05You couldn't make out any specific words.
13:28I opened the door, and it stopped, and there was nobody in the bedroom at all.
13:40You just knew there was somebody watching you.
13:43The hairs on my arms were, like, alert.
13:48It freaked me out.
13:58Jennifer's House
14:28Sarah warns Jennifer.
14:31That was when I started saying, you need to leave.
14:34Move out of that place. This place is haunted.
14:37I didn't really want to sugarcoat it for her because there were things going on.
14:41But Jennifer is too stubborn to take heat.
14:45Jennifer's House
14:54One night, Jennifer works late at her job in the shipping department of a local auto parts company.
15:02So, I hear you live in an Eli's old house.
15:07Shame what happened.
15:10Yeah. Did you know him?
15:15I don't think there's a man alive who loved his wife more.
15:20He was crazy about her.
15:23One of my co-workers actually knew the previous owner.
15:28According to the co-worker, Eli Jones built the home for his wife, and they spent many happy years there.
15:35When she died, Eli was inconsolable.
15:42He eventually shut himself away from the world.
15:49It pretty much broke his heart when she went.
15:52Everything in the house reminded him of her, and he became a hermit.
15:56Then, the co-worker says, seven months before Jennifer moved in,
16:01Then, the co-worker says, seven months before Jennifer moved in,
16:05Eli also died of natural causes in the house.
16:11I'll tell you one thing.
16:13That man could dress.
16:16He was always clean-shaven and always really loaded up on the aftershave.
16:31When I first found out that the previous owners had died in the house, I was really creeped out.
16:36But, I mean, there was nothing I could do.
16:42Eli, I'm home.
16:46I got another big whiff of aftershave.
16:55I am sorry about your wife.
16:59I know that you really loved her.
17:04I know that you really loved her.
17:08I know that you really loved her.
17:11I know that you really loved her.
17:28Hello?
17:41Hello?
18:03Get out.
18:11Get out.
18:24Jennifer has learned that the previous owner, Eli Jones, died in her house.
18:35Get out.
18:38You can hear a man say, get out.
18:58I'm thinking, what the hell is going on?
19:01I could feel the fingers around my leg.
19:05I had to tell myself that somebody died in this house.
19:09It could possibly be haunted.
19:14It's the moment of truth.
19:16Despite the fact that she was grabbed, Jennifer decides to make peace with Eli.
19:27He hasn't done anything to hurt me.
19:29He scared me, but I just kept telling myself it was him.
19:33I figured he loved the house.
19:35He loved being there.
19:36He built it.
19:38He just wants to stay.
19:40I wasn't okay with it, but what was I going to do?
19:44It's not like you can just pick up and leave a house.
19:47You can't just do that.
19:49I just told myself, this is my house.
19:52I'm just going to have to ignore it.
20:04In 2011, Jennifer meets Shawn Williams, a maintenance manager, at work.
20:12It all started out with a friendship, and then it ended up evolving into more.
20:16I feel very lucky that I met her.
20:18When the relationship grows serious, Jennifer invites him to live with her.
20:24Are you sure you're all right with this?
20:26Me moving in?
20:29Yes, of course.
20:32Shawn has the biggest heart of anyone that I know.
20:38He would give you the shirt off his back.
20:40He could have a million things going on, and he would drop everything for me.
20:47I was super excited when Shawn moved in with Jen,
20:50thinking that, well, maybe a male presence will help calm things down.
20:58Are you sure that you're okay with all this?
21:00I mean, my crazy house and all the residual whatevers.
21:10I'm not the least bit worried about that.
21:15I'm usually a man of science, and sometimes I thought what she was viewing
21:19wasn't exactly what really was happening.
21:21Misinterpretation.
21:23I think that his way of thinking was, I believe that something is happening to you,
21:28but I've got to be able to debunk it somehow.
21:48I was coming home late from work, and the front of the house has a big picture window,
21:54and there's somebody standing there.
21:58I don't know who that is.
22:29About this time, every time we would go to bed, I would lock the bedroom door.
22:34Something, someone not being able to open my door freely was comforting.
23:29I'm trying to look into the darkness, and after my eyes had adjusted,
23:35I saw somebody standing there.
23:58For some time, Jennifer Patterson's haunted home has been quiet.
24:03But when her boyfriend Sean moves in, the ghost suddenly reappears.
24:59No.
25:01No.
25:06No.
25:08Help me.
25:10I could not speak.
25:12I couldn't even move a muscle to wake Sean up.
25:16There was nothing that I could do.
25:18In my head, I'm screaming, what the hell is that?
25:22Sean, please. Sean, help me.
25:25Help me.
25:26Help me.
25:28Help me.
25:29What's wrong?
25:31Jennifer looked over at me, and all the blood was drained from her face.
25:34What is it?
25:37It's here.
25:45I didn't see anything. There was nothing around.
25:56You don't believe me, but I know what I saw, and it was him.
26:02Sean's reaction to what I had just seen was, nothing happened.
26:07Your eyes were playing tricks on you.
26:10I knew what I saw.
26:12I still know what I saw.
26:14And there was nothing that he could say or do to make me change my mind.
26:19I saw somebody standing there.
26:22I saw him. He was standing right there.
26:28Are you sure it wasn't just a bad dream?
26:32You don't believe me, but I know what I saw, and it was him.
26:40She was definitely freaked out, but I'm trying to help her.
26:44I'm trying to help her.
26:46She was definitely freaked out, but I'm trying to understand what's going on.
26:51Someone's seeing things, but you're not seeing them, so you don't know really what you can do to help.
26:56It was definitely frustrating.
27:05Days pass without incidents, but Jennifer grows increasingly anxious when she is in the house, alone.
27:12You're always on the edge of your seat, waiting for something to happen, waiting for something to scare you.
27:17I mean, you're supposed to be comfortable in your house.
27:31What was that?
27:35It literally scared me.
27:37What was that?
27:41It literally sounded like something heavy fell or something slammed hard, like someone was breaking a door down.
27:48And that's when I grabbed my .45.
28:00Someone's in the house. Stay here. Lock the door behind me. Don't move anywhere until I get back.
28:06Stay here.
28:28I looked around the room. I didn't see anything that could create the loud bang.
28:36What was that?
29:06What was that?
29:22Relax, man.
29:25There's nobody down here with you.
29:30I was just getting too paranoid.
29:33Looking for ghosts.
29:37Sigh.
29:39Sigh.
29:41Sigh.
30:05My heart was racing.
30:06There was something there, something that is not friendly.
30:24When his girlfriend Jennifer grows fearful, Sean goes searching for ghosts in their home.
30:31I started off as a skeptic.
30:33Every time she was telling me something, I looked around. I didn't see anything.
31:04When I went down into the basement, I sensed that something was definitely bad.
31:11It was a very intense feeling.
31:20Sean can no longer deny that the house is haunted.
31:26That was the first time that I believed that something paranormal was going on in this house.
31:31Knowing that Sean finally realized that what I was talking about was actually true, it was a big relief to me.
31:39But then again, he's seeing it, so I'm not crazy, and what do we do?
31:45Jennifer and Sean decide they need help.
31:49She ended up doing some research and found a place locally that could get to the bottom of what was going on.
31:54I was hoping there was some way that these people would tell me that I could stay in the house.
32:00That they could get rid of whatever was in it.
32:12In July 2013, the Fort Wayne Shadow Chasers' para-sisters arrive at the farmhouse.
32:19We're an all-female team that investigates supernatural occurrences.
32:25Hi, I'm Tina, and this is Jackie, part of my team.
32:30Thank you so much for coming. My boyfriend is at work, otherwise he'd be here too.
32:36Jennifer was very nervous, shaken up. She didn't want to be in the home alone at all, so she was waiting outside for us.
32:43She didn't want to be in the home alone at all, so she was waiting outside for us.
33:08So I understand that you had sensed a spirit in the house.
33:12Yeah.
33:13And your boyfriend as well?
33:15Yeah, we've both had experiences.
33:20And you were grabbed, is that right?
33:25In the basement.
33:29Something grabbed my ankle.
33:33Sean said that he felt a presence down there too.
33:36Well, then I think that we should start the investigation down there.
33:41I'll catch up with you all later. There's something here I want to do some digging.
33:47We are at the home of Jennifer Patterson, Warsaw, Indiana.
34:07That night, Cheryl, the team's sensitive, has a vision of the previous owner who lived in the house.
34:16Sometimes I get pictures of people who have been there in the past.
34:24This music reminds me of the day we were married.
34:27You look absolutely beautiful tonight.
34:29Thank you, Eli.
34:32It's a mess.
34:37Sometimes I get feelings of maybe how the person has passed away.
34:49If they are anxious or sad, it gives us an overall picture of what might have been there.
34:59Cheryl confirms what Jennifer's co-worker told her.
35:03After his wife's death, Eli was heartbroken and became a recluse.
35:09Later, he died of natural causes in the house alone.
35:17The previous owner was very ill.
35:21He had some sort of a cancer and it had something to do with his chest.
35:33He had a heart attack.
35:46I felt sick and dizzy and I also felt like I was having a hard time breathing.
35:53My chest felt like there was a weight pressing on it.
36:02For more on haunting, visit DestinationAmerica.com
36:33He did not want us there. We were invading his place, his sanctuary.
36:52I could almost see him standing back there.
36:57It was more like a shadow, but it was him.
37:03Ah!
37:08Cheryl!
37:10Are you okay?
37:14Ah!
37:27I saw him.
37:28I saw him.
37:31The man that died here.
37:35This is his house. He'll never leave.
37:41The previous owner put his sweat and his love into the house.
37:47He built the house for his wife and when he died, he still did not want to leave.
37:53He is so attached to the house.
37:56Jennifer.
38:01He's still grieving. He lost his wife, the love of his life.
38:08He considers you the intruder.
38:11The new people that moved in were outsiders.
38:15They didn't belong and he wanted them out.
38:18I always thought it was the old man that died there. It's still his house to him.
38:22Is there anything that I can do to stay in my home?
38:30There's one option, but it's not something that everyone is able to do.
38:37At this point I am willing to try anything.
38:41Well then you're going to have to try to live in this house together.
38:45It's possible that if it's not too frightening that they may be able to co-exist.
38:50That's something that definitely could work for a lot of people.
38:56But you can't be afraid. That's the only way that this is going to work.
39:02If Jennifer didn't get her fear under control, then he could possibly feed off of that and things could get really bad.
39:09Before the investigators leave, they recite a protection prayer.
39:14It sets boundaries for our homeowner and the spirits. It protects the homeowner.
39:19And we hope that the protection prayer will at least calm down activity.
39:25In the days that follow, Jennifer attempts to live with the grieving ghost of Eli.
39:31But she can't.
39:32In the days that follow, Jennifer attempts to live with the grieving ghost of Eli.
39:39But her fear is ever present.
39:45There's nothing to be afraid of, Jennifer. Nothing.
39:51Just doing the laundry.
40:03I felt two hands on my back push me.
40:11The physical attack leaves Jennifer in a state of shock, and she and Sean move out.
40:18I got a lot of injuries from that fall. Bruised ribs, pulled muscle.
40:24I had strained things in my spine.
40:27I got a lot of injuries from that fall. Bruised ribs, pulled muscle.
40:30I had strained things in my shoulder.
40:34That was the scariest thing that has ever happened in my life.
40:40I can't even explain how terrifying it is.
40:44And to think that if it can push me, what else can it do to harm us?
40:50We packed our stuff and left.
40:54Never looked back.
40:58To this day, Jennifer still has mixed feelings about her home.
41:05With everything that happened, it was still painful to let the house go, because I did love the house.
41:12It's almost like a trauma. It's always there.
41:16No matter how much you try to ignore it or forget, it's always there.
41:20It is definitely a horrifying experience.
41:24I would say if you don't believe in the paranormal, you definitely need to kind of be more aware of your surroundings,
41:30because not everything can be proven from a book.
41:34Eventually, the farmhouse sells.
41:38The house was on the market probably six months, and a couple from out of state bought it.
41:46I don't want to know if they have experiences or not.
41:50I don't care to know anything about that house anymore.
