00:00Fighting disinformation and fake news.

00:04That is one of the priorities of the new secretary of the Presidential Communications Office, Cesar Chavez,

00:11who took his new position, which was led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

00:18That is what Kenneth Paciente predicted.

00:22President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. was appointed as the new secretary of the Presidential Communications Office or PCO.

00:29He was the former senior undersecretary and presidential assistant for strategic communications, Cesar Chavez.

00:34He will replace the former PCO Secretary, Shelloy Garafil.

00:37The new position was made by the new secretary, which was led by the President.

00:42Chavez was thankful for the trust given to him by the President for this new responsibility.

00:48Even now, he is confident that he will do it well.

00:52While I am the caretaker of the PCO,

00:55in the last 40 years that I have worked in the government and for some years in the media,

01:03professionalism is my main principle that I will use here.

01:10As part of the purpose of the secretary, the government will increase the information dissemination

01:16so that he is sure that the President's message will reach the people,

01:20as well as other steps that the government is taking.

01:23The secret was given to the President, who will remain as the primary spokesperson of the government.

01:29I'll be helping the President explain his policies, some cabinet decisions,

01:33cabinet decisions, executive decisions in particular, his legislative agenda, foreign policy.

01:45but sometimes statements from the President may be necessary, I'll be helping.

01:49I'll be asking some people who are experts on national security, who are experts on social development,

01:54who are experts on infrastructure, on PPP to help me join my team.

01:58I cannot reveal their names at the moment, but they will do well.

02:02He also promised that his leadership in the PCO will be a priority in fighting disinformation and fake news.

02:09In fact, the fact-checking officers will be involved in the state media as well as the PTV4

02:16to ensure that the spread of disinformation and fake news will be avoided.

02:21If we see something that we think is fake, there is a process of checking

02:26on how we can see if the news is fake or not.

02:30We will immediately mark it so that it is clear, so that it will not be released.

02:36Timely, accurate, and validated information is what we need here in the PCO.

02:41Kalihim was asked to speak with him in August 2022 and to offer his position.

02:47But he refused.

02:49He insisted that the government's policy has not changed, especially the institutional change.
