00:00Welcome back to Newswire here on SportsGrid. Of course, the big contests are out. All the lines are available.
00:10Brady Cannon's podcast is getting ready to come out for the week. If it's not already, I know it'll be out soon,
00:16as he's going to be picking games against the spread. And those of you who have not downloaded his podcast,
00:21make sure you do it over on iTunes, Android, and everywhere else. But first and foremost, we're going to bring Brady in
00:26to preview Friday night's game in the National Football League, a game that we've never seen before,
00:30opening up the season in Brazil on a Friday night. Brady, thanks for coming on the show.
00:35Yeah, we thought there'd never be Friday night NFL football. We thought that was always reserved for high school football, right?
00:42But no, money talks, I guess. This is going to be an interesting one, Craig, and full disclosure,
00:48I'm not going to be involved betting it, at least at this point. That is my plan. We'll see if anything changes
00:54between now and then. It's a different scenario. I mean, these players are being, you know,
01:00or we're hearing that they're telling their families not to come. We're hearing that they're being told to stay in their hotel rooms.
01:07You know, security and safety is an issue in this part of the world, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
01:14You know, it's like get out on the field and get back to the hotel and go home.
01:18That's an interesting environment for people that are not used to that type of thing.
01:23I think the field conditions are something to be aware of. You know, this is a soccer field.
01:30It's not used to being able to handle, you know, 350 pound linemen.
01:35And, you know, the turf might not be it might be a little slippery.
01:39We've seen that before when we've traveled to different parts of the world where they're not used to staging an NFL football game.
01:46So I think there's some intangibles, if you will, that, you know, you have to be leery of, you know,
01:53if you're going to be getting involved in this game from a wagering standpoint.
01:57Yeah, I think all those things are fair. All right. So Brady broke it down there.
02:01Let's just take a look at Jordan Love's passing touchdowns.
02:04We'll dive into a couple other topics and then again, let's get into the contests for the week.
02:08If you have any opinions yet, I don't want to ruin the podcast that I don't want to do.
02:12Jordan Love tonight, two plus passing touchdowns is minus one or Friday night, minus 180 over on Fandul.
02:19Three is plus 224 is plus 750. Opening up the season last year.
02:25It's so funny, Brady, you would have got plus money on Jordan Love throwing two plus touchdowns.
02:29But all of a sudden, this guy was like a touchdown machine toward the end of the year.
02:33Do you like any of these odds here? No, no, I think that minus 180 is crazy for him.
02:39Now, that's two or more. Right. Right. So it's not that he has to get the three to.
02:47Boy, that's still the price is is crazy. Should he throw two touchdowns?
02:52Probably. But that's a that's a hefty price tag right there.
02:57You know, I think in general, Craig, when you're betting prop bets, you want to tend to bet against human achievement.
03:05People want to see fireworks. They want to see Jordan Love throw for four touchdowns.
03:09They want to see Saquon Barkley run for 200 yards.
03:13But you're probably going to win more often than not.
03:16If you're playing the unders and the nose betting against human achievement rather than,
03:22you know, kind of betting on what you're rooting for and rooting for fireworks.
03:27I think this is going to be a really good game. You know, I kind of feel the same way about the Thursday night,
03:32you know, opening tonight in Kansas City as well. Both of these favorites are Kansas City's more of a three point favorite.
03:39But with the Eagles, we it opened up over the summer at like one or one and a half.
03:46It's gone. I think it ticked three for a minute. Now it's pretty much a consensus to at three.
03:53I can certainly understand people liking the Packers less than a field goal.
03:57I like the favorite here. I think Green Bay's season win total is spot on.
04:02I think there are nine or 10 win team and it's set at nine and a half.
04:06I think the Chicago Bears, I am probably in the minority here.
04:10I think they have a very good chance to exceed their win total and get to nine, possibly 10 wins.
04:16I think the Detroit Lions are looking at 10 wins.
04:19I think the division comes down to those three teams and it's kind of the first to 11.
04:24I think we'll win the NFC North. The Eagles, on the other hand, you know,
04:29the first part of the season was fraudulent and then they were exposed. Reality set in.
04:34But they've done a great job, as they usually do in the offseason with free agents and the draft.
04:39Vic Fangio comes in on defense. They were minus 10 in turnover margin and the Packers were neutral.
04:48They were a flat zero. So I think there's more room for positive upside on the Eagles,
04:55whereas I see the Packers kind of, you know, being what they were at the end of the last year.
04:59And that was very, very good. But I think the Eagles are and both of these teams are probably possible Super Bowl teams.
05:06But I'll give the edge to the Eagles and laying less than a field goal.
05:09That's the direction I would go tonight. All right.
05:12Now, I've known Brady long enough that I can watch these interviews that I do with him.
05:17I can sense how he feels about things. And my sense is Brady doesn't want to talk about any of these games today or tomorrow.
05:23He's got something else on his mind. He's got better picks to give. He's got better opinions to give.
05:28I know you got to put I believe if you want to pick these games in the contest, you got to pick them all. Right.
05:33Isn't that the way that it used to work that way? I don't know if it's still working.
05:36Yes. Yeah. Yeah. We have a rule, Craig, that we don't play Thursday games and we're not going to play a Friday game.
05:43Because, yeah, you have to submit all your picks. Yeah.
05:46You know, if you want to play one of these early games and you've still got a couple of days worth of information to build.
05:51Yeah, it doesn't make sense. So that being said, what should the the contest picker at home who's doing a contest with their friends in a pool somewhere?
06:00What should they be looking for? And maybe if you have any opinion early on these lines going into the weekend, which ones would you choose?
06:09Well, I'll tell you one good piece of advice that I learned a while ago.
06:13You're not necessarily playing the same games in the contest that you're betting on.
06:20First of all, there could be different lines. The contest lines, the Westgate Super Contest and the Circa Sports Million.
06:27The Circa Million lines come out in about an hour. The Westgate lines came out last night.
06:32Those lines are static. They remain set. So things could change in the live market.
06:37And maybe something happens in the live market where you say, oh, now that's to the point that's to a number where I want to bet it.
06:43And it might not be a bet in the contest. The other side of that theory is when you're playing in contests, you kind of want to sometimes zig when everybody zags.
06:53And that's the way you move up the leaderboard. So Circa Survivor, the most obvious pick this week is going to be the Bengals.
07:00We have three entries as a part of our contest podcast show. I think one of them will probably be on the Bengals.
07:07All right. Fair enough. Listen to Brady's podcast for all of the selections this week, folks.
07:12Brady, thanks again for coming on. You got it, Craig. Thank you.
