00:00We cannot distinguish physical dimension from mental dimension.
00:09We know that body and mind are interconnected
00:13and the oncological disease has an indisputable impact on mental health.
00:21We know that, for years now,
00:25psycho-emotional discomfort has been defined as one of the sixth vital signs in oncological patients.
00:35This means that we absolutely have to do a screening
00:40and go and detect this sixth vital sign,
00:44that is, the psychological and emotional state of the patient,
00:47so that not only can we produce well-being during the course of treatment,
00:55but this, given the latest scientific evidence,
00:58will increase, if the psycho-emotional state is good and balanced,
01:03the effectiveness of oncological treatments.
01:06It is important to add, since we usually talk about
01:10psychological support to the patient after diagnosis,
01:16psychological and emotional support to the patient.
01:22It is important for the oncologist to work on what the patient was before.
01:31It is often said that there is a need to return to a before.
01:36In reality, that before has led us to where the disease has arrived.
01:43There is now a lot of evidence that tells us how psychological and social factors,
01:48as well as environmental ones, impact, contribute to a low-degree inflammation
01:54that contributes to the emergence of tumors.
01:56So, as a psycho-oncologist, I also support the promotion of a change in oneself
02:04that allows me to face life,
02:07that allows my patient to face life in a different way
02:11from how he faced it before the disease.
