00:00But on the River Islands guest line, quickly jumping in here for some emergency pandia
00:05is our friend Doc Narav Pandia.
00:08Hey Doc, how you doing?
00:11I'm doing good.
00:12How are you guys doing?
00:13We're doing great.
00:14But yeah, we'd love some answers and I guess just a general reaction to not just the news
00:20that Christian is missing this weekend, but Kyle Shanahan's comment that yesterday was
00:25his worst day of pain.
00:27What does that indicate to you?
00:29Yeah, that's not a very good sign.
00:30I mean, I think what we get concerned about is that clearly he's been dealing with this
00:34for a while.
00:35He took all this time off during training camp.
00:37And as you're ramping him up, he gets the worst day of pain.
00:40That's super concerning in terms of number one, does he need an extended period of time
00:44off, which it sounds like IR is the answer for that.
00:46It also then means, is this something that's going to be seven, eight, nine, 10 weeks?
00:50I mean, he rested, he did all the things that you would do to treat Achilles tendonitis
00:55and he's having bad days.
00:56So that's super concerning as we head into the season.
00:58And I do worry, is this something that's going to be more than just IR time?
01:01Are we talking six, seven, eight weeks before he gets better?
01:04Is there anything you can do with Achilles tendonitis other than just rest it?
01:09There are some injections.
01:11You can do injections called platelet injections, called PRP, where you can inject in that,
01:15you know, some basketball players get it for MCL injuries, et cetera, that can potentially
01:19help the chronic changes or inflammation in the tendon go down.
01:23But the tough thing is that even with those injections, you just need to take time off.
01:26And that's the tough thing is that you take time off and then suddenly you've been off
01:29for a period of time and then you have to ramp back up.
01:32And you know, the football season just started, but you go six weeks of rest and you get this
01:35injection and you're trying to ramp up.
01:37Does that mean that he's got enough time to be explosive and get into shape and be productive
01:41this season?
01:42Doc, I guess I would just ask when you say extended rest, what does extended mean?
01:47Like is there any reason to think that a month would do it or is there like no way to know
01:51how long?
01:52Yeah.
01:53It's without knowing the severity of it, but the fact that, you know, yesterday was the
01:57worst day.
01:58Like when we're dealing with nonprofessional athletes and they have like a flare up of
02:01Achilles tendonitis, you say three months now, obviously he's a professional football
02:04player, so you're not going to take three months off.
02:07In general, you're going to say, maybe we'll push the limit and do four to five weeks and
02:10then see, as Dan was mentioning, see how he does.
02:12But the worry always is you feel pretty good until you get out in that field.
02:16Next thing you know, five weeks from now, he's out there and he's having pain again
02:19and the risk of number one, rupturing it.
02:22Number two, causing chronic changes in the tendon or number three, him hurting something
02:25else because Achilles is weak.
02:27It just raises all these possibilities that you are super concerned about.
02:30Does the tendonitis portend for future injury or is that just simply happenstance based
02:35on the wear and tear of an athlete?
02:38I think for an athlete, if this is just like, hey, he was doing great all off season, it
02:43started at the beginning of camp and it's kind of flared up a little bit.
02:46You don't get super worried about it.
02:47But you hear that this is lingering at the end of last season.
02:50He had all off season to get this better and then it's still bothering him in camp.
02:54Then you do worry about number one, you know, that risk of the rupture, but also are there
02:58chronic changes starting to come to that tendon for someone who is his age and has played
03:01all this football.
03:02So you do worry about is this going to be more of a long term issue because it's been
03:06going on for a while and at the position that he plays.
03:09Doc, thanks for hopping in real quick on on an important day.
03:13We appreciate it.
03:14No problem.
03:15Anytime, guys.
03:16So, what's his name?
03:17He has emergency.
03:18Yeah.
03:19Yeah.
03:20It's so great to have him in case of emergency break glass.
03:21Well, the only thing I heard, I mean, I heard all of it.
03:24Yeah.
03:25But what stuck with me twice in his first answer?
03:28Super concerning.
03:29Yeah.
03:30End quote.
03:31Yes.
03:32Super concerning because they did everything that they were supposed to do.
03:35And if he was feeling this back in February and through the off season, then it's yeah.
03:40Let it quiet down, rest.
03:42And I don't even know if he had injections, the PRP.
03:45Whatever he did, rest, rest, rest, no OTAs, no camp, rest, no preseason, rest, week one
03:51sit.
03:52All right.
03:53I think we've done enough of the rest and stuff.
03:54Let's see what we've got.
03:55Day one.
03:56Day two.
03:57Oh, full stop.
03:59That's what's really concerning is when you you think about six months of rest and he
04:03got married and he was busy and I'm sure he was active because he's a monster when it
04:07comes to working out.
04:09But you get all the way up to where it's time to go and you get two practices in and you
04:13got to shut him down.
04:14That is very concerning.
04:15888-957-9570.
04:16How about let's go to Ferris in Antioch.
04:21Hi, Ferris.
04:22Thanks for calling.
04:23What's up, man?
04:24Thank you guys for letting me on.
04:28Yeah, yeah.
04:29Thanks for calling.
04:30I just want to respond to a caller.
04:32I think he was a Raider fan, you know, a little depressed Raider fan.
04:35He was calling about, you know, he was criticizing Kyle by saying he don't like Kyle and Kyle
04:40Well, I've never seen an O.C. get more blame for a Super Bowl loss than Kyle Shanahan in
04:47that 2017 Super Bowl versus the Patriots.
04:50I don't think people blame Dan Quinn for that Super Bowl when he's the head coach.
04:54Didn't the head coach begin to blame for that Super Bowl?
04:57And also.
04:58All right.
04:59Yeah, Ferris, look, you're not going to get any disagreement whatsoever in this room.
05:05If I could make a rule, be like when we were playing quarters in college, I think when
05:09you hit three in a row, you got to make a rule.
05:11Remember that?
05:12Oh, my God.
05:13You're taking me back.
05:14You don't remember that?
05:15No, I do remember.
05:16You got to make a rule if you hit three in a row.
05:17OK?
05:18No elbows on the table.
05:19No elbows on the table.
05:20Or whatever.
05:21Totally.
05:22Oh, my God.
05:23If you make another one, you get to run around the room or everybody else has to like, you
05:26know, whatever.
05:27Take your shirt off.
05:28Stupid stuff.
05:29You're college kids.
05:30I'd like to make a rule.
05:32No more Kyle Falcon stuff.
05:35You got to make three in a row first.
05:37It's beyond irrelevant, not only because he wasn't the head coach and we don't do that,
05:43but B, it wasn't here.
05:46Like, if we're going to assess the coaching job of Kyle Shanahan, we've got a tremendous
05:52amount to work with here as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
05:58If you want to play coordinator games, then we get to go to Cleveland and we get to go
06:03to Houston.
06:04We get to go to all these places.
06:05Washington, where Kyle was an assistant and started assessing what happened in each of
06:10those cases, whether the team was better offensively, worse.
06:14It's really, really overwhelming and, quite frankly, a waste of our time.
06:18It's irrelevant.
06:19Leave Atlanta out of this, this one game where, by the way, the defensive coordinator, no
06:26one even knows who he was and he was the one who couldn't stop the Patriots the entire
06:31second half.
06:32Yeah, I believe the caller even said that.
06:33For those of you on YouTube, you heard him say, what the chuck was his name?
06:36That's right.
06:37And I couldn't quite remember what he was talking about.
06:40But his name was Dan Quinn because he was the head coach and a defensive guy.
06:43I'm going to allow one wrinkle to your rule.
06:45And if you call in and you want to talk about him blowing a 28 to 9 point lead, I'll allow
06:51it because when they got the ball back, it actually was 28 to 9.
06:54So if you really want to be nuanced about it, he didn't blow a 28 to 3 lead because
06:59he's the offensive coordinator.
07:01And when he got the ball back to coordinate, it was already 28 to 9.
07:05But why are you then hanging on him all of the other scores that happened after that?
07:09I'm not hanging any of it on him.
07:10He doesn't get any of that.
07:11The Patriots ended up with over 30 points.
07:13Whatever.
07:14He was a coordinator and that was 10 years ago.
07:16So I'm with you.
07:17But I do like when people 28 to 3.
07:20It wasn't 28 to 3.
07:22But you're right.
07:23We have enough of a body of work.
07:25And I do think that if Christian McCaffrey misses the next four games, so he misses the
07:30first five games, I still think that what Kyle Shanahan has done, what John Lynch has
07:36done, what this team is, you should still be 5-0.
07:40I'm going to give you 4-1.
07:425-0!
07:435-0!
07:44If you're 4-1 and you lose at LA or you lose Sunday at Minnesota, I'm going to give you
07:49a pass.
07:50I hear where you're coming from.
07:525-0!
07:53You're that good.
07:54Well, again, I hear where you're coming from, but if anything, haven't we learned over the
08:00last seven days, can we just go week to week?
08:03I know that that's not an answer that's satisfying to people.
08:06Sure, Mark.
08:07I get where you're coming from.
08:08Stop asking me about the Sunday game.
08:10Let's just talk about 3-10 on a Friday.
08:13But we know who's playing Sunday.
08:14We do.
08:15I don't know who's playing the next Sunday.
08:17Because you've got to get through this Sunday.
08:20There might not be a next Sunday.
08:21If you ask Kyle Shanahan.
08:22Ask Kyle.
08:23That's right.
08:24The world might explode.
08:25Greg in Antioch, next up on Willard & Dibbs.
08:27Hi, Greg.
08:28Thank you for calling.
08:29Hey, how you guys doing?
08:31Good.
08:32Quick question, man.
08:34What do you guys think about Kyle putting Debo at running back with wide receiver shoulder
08:41pass, running him up the middle?
08:43And he already has a bad shoulder from last year.
08:47Yeah, I'm not a doctor, Greg.
08:49So I don't know if his shoulder from last year is fully healed or not or whatever.
08:53I get where you're coming from.
08:54And I'll just reiterate what I said earlier.
08:56My hope is that other running backs, whether it's Garendo, whether it's Taylor,
09:02whether it's somebody that they signed.
09:04A lot of people are bringing up Matt Breida, who was here just a couple of weeks ago.
09:07Could you bring him back?
09:09I would love to see other running backs be the ones who spell Jordan Mason
09:15during this time more than Debo.
09:18A, because yes, running him up the middle, I worry for Debo's health.
09:22But B, I want when Debo gets the ball out of the backfield, I love the element of surprise.
09:26I want those jet sweeps.
09:28That's all still going to happen.
09:29That was already going to happen.
09:31But just handing him the ball to run straight up the middle, not my favorite.
09:35Not my favorite.
09:36And you've got Garendo.
09:37You drafted him, and he's starting to get into shape and starting to get ready.
09:40I bet you you see some Garendo carries on Sunday.
09:42I agree with you.
09:44I hope so.
