00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is in support of the implementation of measures to stop the cases of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
00:11At the same time, the public should unite with the government in this fight.
00:17Alan Francisco has the report.
00:21President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was emotional when he sympathized with young victims of abuse.
00:28He was particularly touched by the story of a survivor of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
00:36It happened at an event in Makati City yesterday with the theme of Uniting Nations, Uniting Action.
00:43End Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children or OSAIC Ngayon Summit 2024.
00:49As I was listening to the young lady, and she is a lady, I could not help but shed a tear to think, to try to help to relive the suffering that she went through.
01:10And to think how many other children are even, as we hear, sit in this fancy hotel room, eating our fancy food, continuing to suffer the same fate as she has.
01:29And accompanying those tears that I just shed was a deep sense of shame because we have not done enough.
01:39For the Philippines to now be considered the epicenter of, let us not shorten it into a clinical term, OSAIC.
01:53It is sexual abuse and exploitation of children. And I leave it to your imagination.
02:01That is why the President called for help to protect the children.
02:05As part of the action of the government is the Interagency Council Against Trafficking.
02:10There is also the full administration of the Presidential Office for Child Protection,
02:15which will be the center of efforts to ensure that every child in the country is protected and supported.
02:23At the legislative level, the President said, there is the Anti-OSAIC and Anti-SASAIM Act.
02:29There is also the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022.
02:34The effective implementation of the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children is also a big thing.
02:40President Marcos promised that he will pursue the victims of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
02:47We are here today to confront one of the greatest challenges of our time.
02:53The challenges that we face in government are always the challenges that are brought to us by the future.
03:01And what exemplifies our future more, what symbolizes our future more than our children.
03:06And that is why this strikes at the very heart of our society.
03:10It undermines the foundations of what we are, of who we are as a people.
03:16No less than our President, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that the most heinous and evil of all crimes are crimes committed against children.
03:32Specifically, sexual exploitation.
03:37And during this meeting, he ordered all of those present to immediately crack down on OSAIC.
03:46This is our President who defends our future.
