40:31on WWF Superstars in a matchup with the Hitman, Bret Hart.
40:35Tell you what, a psychiatrist around here
40:37could make a lot of money.
40:39Kevin Kruger against Bob Backlund.
40:42Backlund in a matchup with Bret Hart.
40:45A tremendously fought matchup.
40:47You will recall it was Bob Backlund
40:49who held the WWF title for some six years
40:52from 1978 to 1983.
40:57He was off for a while and then decided
41:00to make the comeback two years ago
41:02at age 43 years old.
41:05And the reason for the comeback?
41:07Because he feels as though he once again
41:10could be the World Wrestling Federation Champion.
41:13He had a shot against Bret Hart,
41:15and he came close.
41:16A true bona fide legend is Bob Backlund.
41:20Came close, but didn't get it done
41:22just like so many challengers went against Bob Backlund
41:25and didn't get it done.
41:26Yes, but then from there, uncharacteristic
41:29of the Bob Backlund that we knew before.
41:32Bob Backlund at one time a consummate sportsman,
41:35but after the Bret Hart match, you saw what happened.
41:38He put the crossface and chicken wing on Bret Hart
41:41and would not let go.
41:43And then he went into a stare of his hands
41:45like he was somewhere else like Saturn or Venus
41:49or like he was the center of the universe.
41:52Into some sort of catatonic state, you would say.
41:55Everybody knows I'm the center of the universe.
41:57Set up by Bob Backlund.
41:59No denying this man's credentials.
42:01In terms of wrestling skill,
42:03former NCAA champion Bob Backlund
42:06in complete control at the moment.
42:09However, he was not totally in control
42:12against the Hitman Bret Hart.
42:14He had met his match.
42:15He had had his opportunity.
42:17The reason for the comeback.
42:19And then from there, Backlund simply snapped.
42:22He snapped Randy Savage.
42:24And I think that's the reason for the Backlund generation
42:26because the new generation, Bret the Hitman Hart,

42:32It's almost as if Backlund is living in the past.

42:54And I gotta say, his most recent gripe
42:57is that he thought he had a three count

43:02before he lost the ball.
43:03And you know what?
43:04I think he's got a point right there.
43:06Yes, nonetheless, it is a victory
43:09for the World Wrestling Federation champion.
43:11I would love to see a rematch
43:13between Bob Backlund and Bret the Hitman Hart.
43:16I would suggest it would be somewhat different
43:18in terms of style than the previous match we saw
43:21between those two great competitors.

43:28I think Backlund would do what he does best.
43:30And that is scientific wrestling.
43:32But with an aggressive style,
43:34and I believe right now,
43:36Bob Backlund is not above cheating.
43:39I think there's a spirit emerging from Bob Backlund
