00:00I've almost finished my album and my family's coming to Tampa to make a special music video.
00:09This is the last shot, so just give it your best.
00:13It's really fun to see all of us working together on this video project.
00:18It kind of makes me miss the old days when we all had, you know, our roles to play in
00:22the family band.
00:23Okay, that's a wrap.
00:24Come on, man.
00:26Come on, man.
00:27I would say Andres is my closest friend that I have up here.
00:31I say we just kind of get out of our comfort zone and meet some girls or something.
00:35I'd be down.
00:36I know there's a lot that I have to learn about approaching women.
00:41I have a really terrible time with missing all that.
00:44I'm both scared and also really excited for you to hang out with Lyd.
00:49Why?
00:50I really want Brendan and my sister Lydia to meet and hang out.
00:55So much is like weighing on it and resting on it.
00:58It's like you taking me home to meet your parents, like that kind of pressure.
01:26How is playing the bass with those nails?
01:30Well, they act as picks.
01:33Okay.
01:34Today, I'm at Ken's house.
01:37Mariah and Lydia are here to show me some music that they've written, and I thought
01:41I would show them my new bass.
01:43Making the music video was so much fun that I think all of us felt inspired to play music
01:49together again, even if it's just occasionally.
01:53So, I know I've talked to you a bunch about starting a band.
01:56Yeah.
01:57That's my next step.
01:58Yeah.
01:59That's my goal for the next however long.
02:00I want to be able to do it by myself because I've learned we all have different lives.
02:05It's hard to get a bunch of people together at one time.
02:08So, I'm starting a band with professional musicians, and then hopefully that'll inspire
02:13everybody else to join as much as possible.
02:16Everybody else?
02:17Who?
02:18Everybody in the family.
02:20Oh, in the family.
02:22The music video was a really good experience, and now my next goal is to go on the road
02:27and just sing wherever.
02:29So, I love your idea of you start a band and we join in whenever we can, but we all have
02:36busy lives, and I don't know what that looks like practically.
02:39Why don't we just one time do a concert all together as a family like we used to?
02:45Yeah.
02:46And it could be new songs.
02:47It could be songs you've written and songs you've written.
02:50Music has always been really important to me, and I love being able to connect with
02:56the children through music.
02:58Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side.
03:03Keep on the sunny side of life.
03:07Looking back on the family band, I would say those were some of the most happiest days
03:12of my life in the sense of being together as a family and playing music and traveling
03:17around.
03:18A lot of things have changed since we were a band.
03:21Oh, yeah.
03:22Like, the girls have grown.
03:23Amber has an amazing voice.
03:25She needs to do a song where she solos.
03:27I wish she were here, yeah.
03:28Oh, look, Ethan needs to solo soon, too.
03:31He has an amazing voice.
03:33Look, we won't be doing gospel music, that's for sure.
03:36Yeah, I mean, we'll do whatever.
03:40I would like to just do worship music.
03:43But Mariah likes to sing about life, her experience, her journey, and if you mess with
03:51her, she will write a song about you.
03:55Lydia, when I say I'm not doing gospel, it's not because I'm like, no Christian songs
04:00whatsoever.
04:01That's not at all it.
04:02I still want to go in that genre, you know?
04:04I'm not sticking to one genre of music.
04:07I'd rather do country, pop, something that makes me, that feels like me and southern
04:13gospel isn't me.
04:15Did you want to play a song for me?
04:17Yeah, I do.
04:18I know you've written a bunch of stuff that I haven't heard.
04:21Especially since I got the electric guitar.
04:23Yeah.
04:24I've been writing really weird songs ever since I got the electric guitar, though I
04:27will say, I'll just warn you.
04:29Not only is it a challenge having a concert of us all coming together that we're so physically
04:35spread out over half the country, but we all have totally different musical styles.
04:41Mariah is more contemporary, secular rock.
04:45Lydia is more gospel hymns.
04:48Ethan is more old school country, Johnny Cash style.
04:53I really don't care what genre of music we play.
04:57Singing this song is like, kind of goes against everything in me, but I'm singing to sing
05:03with Mariah.
05:06I'm sorry.
05:13I'm a monster, don't come closer.
05:17You can chase me, but I'm faster.
05:21Might be sweet at first, but if you come too close, I become a monster to protect her.
05:31I'd sing any song with Mariah, anytime.
05:34Because it's my sister.
05:36But me singing, I'm a monster, that just doesn't sit right with me.
05:42You say, don't say that.
05:44That is the cold truth.
05:46I'm a monster.
05:49Now I want you.
05:52Five years ago, Mariah couldn't stand to be in the same room with me.
05:55And now we're playing together and talking about doing a concert together as a family.
06:00I'm definitely excited.
06:01It's a little bit nerve wracking, but I think it'd be fun to just get together and play.
06:06You can chase me, but I'm faster.
06:10Might be sweet at first, but if you come too close, I become a monster.
06:16I interrupt at one, two, three.
06:20You dare to get that close to a monster?
06:24I'm a little scared.
06:41It does look like we're a bit early.
06:44So I think line dancing starts seven?
06:47Yeah.
06:48A little after seven?
06:49Me and Andres are going line dancing in the uptown section of Minneapolis.
06:54This type of line dancing I've never done before.
06:57I think without a sidekick, I probably wouldn't be out tonight, for sure.
07:02I might just chill at the bar a little bit.
07:04Maybe talk to some people, find some chiquitas, you know what I'm saying?
07:07Yeah, we'll see how it goes.
07:09I'm a little nervous, actually.
07:11Yeah, I mean, it's only natural, right?
07:13Have you done this before?
07:14Like approaching girls and stuff?
07:16Yeah.
07:17Oh, yeah.
07:18Me and Olivia have been apart for a year,
07:20and the way that me and Olivia met and started dating,
07:23like when we went on our first date, we were like, we're going to get married, you know?
07:26And that's just how it was.
07:27So it was like, bang, right out of the gate, there it was.
07:32I didn't have any experience of going out in public, seeing a complete stranger,
07:37introducing myself, and seeing how the night goes.
07:41I mean, it's just so different from anything that I've ever, ever done before.
07:46Welcome to the Wild West.
07:48How you doing?
07:49Welcome.
07:55Are you guys in line?
07:56Yeah, we're just hanging out.
07:57Can I bug you for a water?
07:58Yeah.
07:59Do you guys also have any coffee?
08:00Any chance?
08:01No.
08:02Okay.
08:03I don't think I've ever even been to Uptown since I've lived in Minnesota.
08:06I feel like I'm very ready for something new.
08:09And so I guess tonight I'm going to go approach somebody that I've never met before, never seen.
08:15Get it, bro, get it.
08:16Yeah.
08:17Chop, chop.
08:19Wait, that's the plan, to approach someone tonight?
08:23I mean, yeah, I guess.
08:27Yeah, it's more so just get a little uncomfortable, get out of our comfort zone, just maybe try something new.
08:33Yeah.
08:39Let's go.
08:53I notice right away a really, really cute blonde girl.
08:58I want to go introduce myself, but I feel a little bit nervous because she's really beautiful,
09:03so it's intimidating a little bit to approach a beautiful woman.
09:07Let's go.
09:10Are you nervous at all?
09:12A little bit.
09:13I got a little shaky leg.
09:14Lydia Grace is driving up from Phoenix today to spend some time with me and Brendan.
09:19I'm waiting.
09:20I worry about Olivia because this seems serious, and I don't really know the guy.
09:38Bye.
09:39Bye.
