The Customs Department has managed to foil smuggling attempts in five separate raids across Johor between July and August 2024, resulting in the seizure of contraband cigarettes and alcohol worth RM11.7mil.

Johor Customs Department director Aminul Izmeer Mohd Sohaimi said that the syndicate’s modus operandi involved making false declarations of goods to evade detection by Customs officers.

01:14with a final destination to a country in Asia.
01:19The estimated value is RM1.4 million,
01:23and the total amount involved is RM7 million.
01:29Second, on 18 July 2024,

01:34has managed to detain a non-customized hard drink container,
01:40at Pasir Gudang Port, Johor.
01:44The container has been found to try to import,
01:48and trade as a Chinese player accessory.
01:54The estimated value is RM166,824,

02:06Third, on 16 August 2024,
02:12the Government of Johor,
02:17has seized a non-customized hard drink container,
02:22in a warehouse in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur.
02:27The syndicate was found to be using,
02:29a warehouse in an industrial area,
02:33as a storage store,
02:35before being sold to the public.
02:38The estimated value is RM127,562,
02:43and the total amount involved is RM640,737.
02:51Fourth, on 17 August 2024,
02:56the syndicate has managed to terminate,
02:59a non-customized hard drink container,
03:03at Sultan Iskandar Construction, Johor.
03:08A lorry has passed through an empty lorry,
03:11the lorry has been left in the import area,
03:13and the lorry driver has run away.
03:18Fifth, on 20 August 2024,
03:22the authorities have inspected,
03:27a Toyota Estima MPV,
03:30which is suspected to be in Pakir,
03:33at Taman Impian Emas, Johor.
03:39The inspection has found,
03:41a non-customized hard drink container,
03:43which has been sold to the public.
03:45The estimated value is RM105,000,
03:48and the total amount involved is RM434,000.
03:53The total amount is RM40,000,
03:59and the total amount is RM12,430,000.
04:06The estimated value is RM1.9 million,
04:11and the total amount involved is RM9.8 million.
04:17The estimated value is RM11.77 million.
04:30The syndicate has made a non-trading agreement,

05:03according to the larger charges,
05:07or imprisonment not less than 6 months,
05:10and not more than 5 years,
05:12or imprisonment not less than 3 times the value of the item.
