00:06Singapore's former Transport Minister S Iswaran has been sentenced to 12 months in
00:10jail today.
00:13Last week, Iswaran pleaded guilty to four counts of receiving gifts and one count of
00:17obstructing justice.
00:20Just as Vincent Hoong meted out the one-year sentence in the Singapore High Court today,
00:25The Straits Times reported.
00:27Hoong ordered Iswaran to begin serving his sentence on October 7 at 4 p.m.
00:33Bail was fixed at SGD 800,000, according to Channel News Asia.
00:39Iswaran was initially slapped with 35 charges after being accused of accepting more than
00:43SGD 403,000 in luxury gifts, including tickets to musicals and soccer matches in the UK.
00:53The 62-year-old, who resigned from his post in January, previously vowed to defend his
00:58innocence in court.
