04:07I've just finished giving a pep talk to a whole group of sixth formers
04:12and interestingly enough, a large section of that audience
04:15are going to be your target consumer for the next task.
04:18Now, two of you, from my recollection, have not been team managers.
04:23Michelle and Dunn.
04:25So, you three, out of those two, who would you like to lead your team?
04:31We'd like Michelle, please, Sir Alan.

04:38The good friend of mine, Mr Philip Green,
04:40arguably Britain's greatest retailer,
04:44he has given us Top Shop Oxford Street.
04:48He's sectioned off an area especially for you.
04:51You're going to select your own ranges of merchandise
04:54targeted for young girls.
04:57The day after, you're going to put it all on display in your own sections
05:01and you're open to the public.
05:03Pole position, Oxford Circus,
05:06the greatest retailing pitch in this country.
05:09And it's very simple.
05:11The team that ends up taking the most amount of money is going to win
05:15and the team that doesn't, one of you, will get fired.
05:19Over the next 48 hours,
05:21the teams will be thrown into the centre of Britain's retail trade.
05:27This is the largest clothing store in Europe.
05:30100,000 square feet of retail space,
05:34visited by a quarter of a million shoppers every week.
05:38It's all about fashion. Fashion is fickle.
05:40You know, one minute you've got the right product,
05:42it sells like hot potatoes,
05:44the next minute you wouldn't be seen dead in it.
05:47And that's why the skill in this task is choosing the right merchandise.
05:53To help them choose, Sir Alan's found each team a focus group.

05:59So we've prepared a list of questions, we've got an hour to go through them.
06:03Six form girls from Chigwell School are typical customers.
06:07They could offer a unique insight into the task ahead.
06:10What is the kind of look at the minute? What is what's trendy?
06:13In the winter it's going into more military style now.
06:16If you were going to go to Topshop and you were going to go on Saturday,
06:19what would you be buying?
06:21It's all the jackets and stuff that have the double buttons
06:24that make it look like a sailor outfit.

09:41that I genuinely do not think that the Oriental is going to look good on me.
09:45Very quickly, with all four options,
09:47it seems to me that the Modern Oriental is the only option that we have
09:51that offers different colours.
09:53A lot of girls, when they go out shopping,
09:55especially when I'm out going to bars and restaurants,
09:57I see a lot of colourful stuff and I appreciate it,
09:59I know my friends appreciate it,
10:01so therefore I'd really push that.
10:03To be honest, I've got a beautiful Oriental top,
10:05and I've worn it once.
10:06It was really hard to get rid of my jeans,
10:08it was really hard to get a skirt to match.
10:10We only had to sell it for the weekend for one day.

10:39that they weren't prepared to take what she suggested as a given.

10:51because if she gets it right, fine, and if she doesn't, it's all her fault,
10:54but they haven't been taking it that way.
