00:00The Bacuna Eskwela Program of the Health Department and DepEd has already started.
00:05Its target is to vaccinate more than 3 million students
00:09to lower the number of children who are sick.
00:13This is what Benji Durango reported.
00:17It's time to vaccinate again.
00:18After being suspended for a few years due to the pandemic,
00:21Bacuna Eskwela was reopened for grade schoolers.
00:24DOH and DepEd teamed up to vaccinate
00:273.8 million students from grades 1 to 7 across the country.
00:32It started at Dr. Albert Elementary School in Manila.
00:35Its target is to lower the number of children who are sick.
00:38So even if the number of children is increasing,
00:40it is approved for parents to vaccinate their children for free
00:44against tetanus, rubella, diphtheria, and tetanus.
00:47According to the DOH, from January to September this year,
00:51the list of cervical cancer cases is leading,
00:53where there are less than 8,000 diagnosed cases
00:57and more than half are dying.
00:59This is followed by tigdans and rubella,
01:01where 11 are dying from more than 3,000 cases.
01:0525 are at home from more than 200 cases of diphtheria,
01:09while more than half are at home from 81 cases of tetanus.
01:14This is not forced, said the DOH,
01:16but they will take time to explain to parents
01:19how best to vaccinate their children.
01:21Asek Galban's aunt died of cervical cancer.
01:27Her mother vaccinated her child.
01:30A child who was vaccinated is a very good recipient.
01:33Sir, is this voluntary?
01:35Yes, this is voluntary.
01:37Sir, there are parents who are not vaccinated.
01:39What is the reason?
01:41We are convincing them.
01:43The good thing about school-based vaccines
01:44is that we know the children who are not vaccinated.
01:47So over the next two months, there is a schedule.
01:50We can go and talk to them and we can convince them.
01:54Our teams come back to talk to them about why they are not vaccinated.
01:57There are many reasons.
01:58Most are afraid of the side effects.
02:01Because of the recent issues regarding vaccines,
02:0440% or 4 out of 10 parents
02:07have agreed to vaccinate their children.
02:09We are already in the 90s.
02:1090% are willing to get vaccinated.
02:13But because of what happened with Dengvaxia,
02:15the number dropped to 40.
02:16Now, we are not recovering from this.
02:18Mami Karen was HPV vaccinated for her daughter, Briana.
02:22She is in charge because there is a history of cervical cancer in the family.
02:25So when they found out that there is a free vaccine in the school,
02:28they immediately went for it.
02:29It's a big help that I asked others what their opinion is.
02:34Everything I asked was positive.
02:37The DOH and DepEd assured that the vaccine is enough
02:40and that they will finish it within two months.
02:43The vaccine is life-saving.
02:46If you don't get vaccinated,
02:47like what SecTed explained,
02:49it's really far from what can happen to a child.
02:52In extreme cases,
02:54a child can die if there is no vaccine.
02:56It is expected that this will be done in other schools
02:59across the country in the coming days.
03:01Benji Durango for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
