00:00Welcome to our number two live right here on this Tuesday on
00:07the early line on sports. He is I am Ben Stevens. It is
00:12October. It's a lot of playoff baseball coming your way with a
00:16double header. Once again in the National League, we change
00:19venues for the first time in the MLB postseason. We will head
00:24up to Queens at Citi Field, the Mets and the Philz tied at a
00:29game. All will head down to San Diego in the Southern
00:33California rivalry where there's a lot of bad blood
00:36spilling over after game number two also tied at a game a piece
00:41in fact show in all four of our division sets around the MLB
00:45postseason. We are tied at a game all not just October
00:49baseball. We'll talk a little bit about the NFL at the
00:52conclusion of week five and during week six, the injury
00:57roster decisions that must be made and we'll take an early
01:01look at a college football slate on Saturday. That is as
01:05good as you will see all of that in this second hour. Yeah
01:10going to be a whole lot of fun here and I can't remember when
01:13was the last time the Mets actually played a game at home.
01:16It feels like they've been on the road for the last two
01:18months here. Ben's kind of crazy. So I hope all of those
01:22games go to a game five. Nothing would be better for
01:25Major League Baseball and it's looking like we could be
01:29trending that perspective as of right now. What a series it has
01:34been between the two divisional foes from the NL East in the
01:38NLDS, the Mets and the Phillies for a fourth consecutive game
01:42for New York on the road in all four. A lead has been changed
01:47or at least the game tied in the eighth inning or later. The
01:51only issue for the Amazons on Sunday night. It was the
01:55Phillies walking it off in the home half of the ninth courtesy
01:59of Nick Castellanos in a game that featured a lot of lead
02:03changes and ties. The Philz even it up at a game a piece of
02:08Philadelphia back to the outright series favorite as we
02:11get ready for game number three tonight at City Field. Joe, how
02:15competitive do you think this series is going to be when all
02:18is said and done? Yeah, I think what you see here is what you
02:22get. You know the Mets they have it's no doubt they have
02:27been one of the best teams down the stretch here Ben to put
02:30themselves in this spot here and if you'd have told me hey
02:34listen the Mets go to Philadelphia. They split the
02:38Mets would have taken that any day of the week. Now they get
02:41to finally come back home. You know sometimes what happens with
02:44these underdogs like the Mets, you know you do a whole lot of
02:49bonding down the stretch when your playoff lives and careers
02:53depend on it and you know you don't have all the distraction
02:56of the family and the friends at home. So sometimes going on
03:00the road and being away for as long as they were that's a
03:04really really good thing for this team and all the quotes
03:06out of the locker room pretty much tend for me to believe
03:10that this team found a little something together down the
03:13stretch when their backs were against the wall. No doubt
03:16about it. Joe 24 and 33 at the end of May starting June 1st
03:20and now into the postseason the best record and win percentage
03:24in all of MLB, but the Phillies do remain the series favorites
03:28as you might expect, but it was a larger number entering the
03:32set. It was a shorter number after the Mets take game number
03:35one again rallying with five runs in the eighth inning. Now
03:40the Philz a slight series favorite outright peculiar
03:44number in the series spread the Phillies getting a game and a
03:47half even as the set favorite, but you gotta lay 390 of juice
03:53four and a half games is the series over under for the
03:56amount of games that will be played slight juice on the over
04:00could we see it get to a winner take all game five back in
04:03Philadelphia at the bank later this week. So let's talk game
04:08number three. Aaron Nola gets the start tonight for
04:11Philadelphia on the road in Queens. Sean Mania gets the
04:14nod for the Mets, but I has faced off against Philadelphia
04:19three times this year 10 earned given up in three starts even
04:24recently to end out August. He faced off or a September rather
04:28he faced off against Philadelphia total is seven
04:32juice on the over. We have seen both of the two games hit the
04:36over in this set so far in the Philz a slight road favorite
04:40minus 110 is now minus 112 Moneyline that the number in
04:45favor of the fight. What do you make of game number three who
04:48takes the series advantage? Well, I who takes this series
04:53advantage is which bullpen can actually hold down the comeback
04:58that is eventually going to happen then in the 17th or
05:01ninth inning between these two teams and I think listen we
05:05gave Philadelphia an edge simply because we had a little
05:08bit more faith that they're starting pitching could could
05:12pitch longer into the games. You know the thing that
05:14Philadelphia had advantage wise was they the Mets had to use
05:20every arm. They had they had to activate Senga. They were
05:23looking for guys any guys to hobble together to throw out
05:27there because they have had to use everybody the Phillies. Hey
05:31listen if I can throw Wheeler and get him out there seven
05:34innings seven eight innings and not have to rely on that
05:37bullpen which could very well blow up their entire season
05:41great. They're going to need the same thing from Mola
05:43tonight. They're going to need six seven strong innings out of
05:47him and they gotta have a lead heading into the late innings
05:50because that bullpen cannot be trusted for Philadelphia and
05:53the same can be said about the Mets. So the longer whoever
05:57starting pitcher goes longer that team in all likelihood is
06:00going to win the game. It is a good point. Joe Sharma and I
06:04got the start last week in Milwaukee. It was the game in
06:07game two. The Mets lost to the Brew Crew. He wasn't bad five
06:11innings of work did allow to earn runs and a home run to
06:15Jackson Churio very early on. Let's get to the other
06:20National League division series that has also been between
06:23heated divisional rivals in Southern California, the
06:26Padres and the Dodgers. Of course, the lengthy delay at the
06:30end of game two fans, which they should never do throwing
06:34objects on the field in the direction of Jerickson Pro Farm
06:37Eddie Machado jawing with the dugout of his former team
06:41telling Jack Flaherty to meet me outside. Listen, we've got
06:44some juice here in October, but San Diego was dominant in game
06:49to tend to the victory for the Padres. They match six home
06:52runs as a team Jackson Merrill getting involved a home run and
06:58in the game. Fernando Tatis two long balls in the game.
07:01Fernando Tatis in this series Joe five for eight at the plate
07:05two homers three RBIs two doubles five runs scored. So
07:10San Diego has even the set as they return home and now
07:14they're the series favorites. We'll show you why because of
07:18how substantial the line is in favor of the Padres with
07:22Michael King on the bump for game three in just a minute,
07:25but Joe do you agree should the Padres be favored to win the
07:29National League division series over the Dodgers? Absolutely
07:34they should look at this. Look at the starting pitching match
07:37up tonight. Michael King versus you know, I mean come on
07:41people the six home runs in that game for the Padres, right?
07:45They tend to absolute demolishing and they had to do
07:49it on the road hostile environment when boy oh boy
07:53would have been easy to fall, but they didn't they didn't
07:56because they have a better bullpen. They have better
07:58starting pitching and the argument could be made lineups
08:01one through nine. Both these teams very capable. What
08:04separates these two teams the pitching and the pitching is
08:08clearly in favor of the Padres who head home. Now they have
08:13the better bullpen and they certainly have the better
08:15starter on the mound tonight and that's the story Joe Michael
08:19King gets the nod tonight for San Diego. The Padres are
08:22greater than a dollar and a half favorite at home against
08:26the Dodgers. You might be thinking Walker Bueller's out
08:28there. He's one of the staples of this starting staff. Oh boy
08:32not this year as he has tried to respond from multiple
08:35injuries in a two year absence. San Diego is correctly the
08:41strong home favorite tonight in game three. Yeah, then they
08:46should be banned in a big big big way. What one in six in
08:5116 starts this season with nearly a six ERA for Walker
08:55Bueller. Yeah, I'm good. I'm good with laying a $1.50 with
08:58the Padres and look at this though. Here's what's really
09:01intriguing again. We'll hit on all of this later on in our
09:04third hour. San Diego the series favorite the favorites
09:07to take a series lead in game three and yet still trail LA in
09:12the National League pennant prices. There is some balance
09:16got a breaking news insider on the show. Our MLB insider Craig
09:20Mish here to set the stage for another day in the MLB post
09:25season with all four division series tied at a game apiece.
09:30Craig also the host of Newswire. He'll have more
09:32continued reaction into the Jets decision behind the
09:35dismissal of Robert Sala. Craig. I really thought that
09:38might have been you breaking the news instead of Shepter
09:40wins out, huh? Not in the NFL, but this shouldn't be breaking
09:43news to anyone. The best bet now on the board is taking the
09:46Jets at home on Monday night football. That coach bounce is
09:49real. That coach bounce is real. You get that thing up to
09:53three points on Monday night. Put it in now. I don't think
09:56you're going to get even two and a half going into Monday
09:59night. I mean usually college sports, pro sports, you know
10:02managers and anytime this happens, the players want to
10:06show that it wasn't them. That was the issue. It was the guy
10:11up top. I am telling you now that that becomes I think one
10:14of the best bets of the week is taking the Jets against the
10:16Bills. I know it sounds crazy, but I mean historically
10:19speaking, this is more than a 50% win, which is something you
10:23gotta take and maybe that's why the decision was made ahead of
10:27a huge divisional duel on Monday in Met life. The Jets
10:30currently a two and a half point underdog. Alright, Craig
10:34again, we will continue our breaking news. I know you will
10:37do the same on Newswire, but let's dive into October
10:40baseball going around the MLB postseason. A recap of the
10:44doubleheader of the American League division sets from
10:47yesterday and a preview of a doubleheader of game threes in
10:51the NLDS on this Tuesday evening. We do all of that in
10:56the daily basis.
11:02Yesterday in the Bronx, Kansas City scores four runs in the
11:06top of the fourth and they hold on the remainder of the way to
11:10tie the American League division set against the New
11:13York Yankees at a game apiece. So Casey shows it's resolved.
11:18They bounce back from game number one Craig in your
11:22estimation. Where is this series headed to Kansas City tomorrow
11:27for game number three Kansas City could easily win this
11:30thing. I don't think there's any question. This is a very
11:33similar script to the last few Yankee post seasons. Look they
11:37could get by without a doubt, but Aaron judges stopped
11:41I mean, they've been an all or nothing team for so long Ben
11:44and like nothing is going to change all of a sudden in the
11:46postseason here. I do like some of the additions that they have
11:50obviously jazz, you know adding him at the trade deadline was a
11:53fantastic move for him. But even he last night said that the
11:56Royals got lucky after the game. My goodness. Okay. Well
12:00here we go. We're going back to Kansas City for the next two.
12:05You know look we've seen it before whoever the Yankees have
12:09played first round second round. They've had their issues
12:12getting hot in October. They their offense does not appear to
12:16be all that hot right now. They played much better. Of course
12:18offensively in game one and game two, but I expect the Royals to
12:21fight them right to the end here. It's interesting Craig
12:26how it's changed over the years in baseball when it comes to
12:29quality starting pitchers and the Tigers and school ball who
12:34are now. I mean give him credit right they go to a game five.
12:38You gotta you gotta face school again. Good luck Guardians,
12:42but outside of the one true ace like what was the best pitcher
12:47in this series and who do you give the advantage to in which
12:51series in Detroit Cleveland in Tigers Guardians? It's like
12:54yeah. Yeah. No listen. I mean listen. I was here a few weeks
12:59ago and you know again we were looking at the odds. The Tigers
13:02were not in the playoffs and I said that they had the best
13:04weapon going into the postseason. That's still the
13:06case Joe. If you have one starting pitcher that is an ace
13:10that can get six innings of outs. That's the team to back
13:14so this does not surprise me and Joe. I think you are right.
13:17I think this is going to go down to five games and then who
13:19would you take in game five knowing the school ball was
13:21going to pitch and by the way, who would you take in Detroit's
13:24next series if it was against Kansas City or the Yankees
13:27knowing that school ball is going to go game two game five
13:30and probably game seven, you would take Detroit again. So
13:33look Detroit is a live possibility to to go all the
13:37way here and so is any team. It is a tournament at this point.
13:40Detroit does not have a second starting pitcher. They've been
13:43sort of piecing things together doing a good job. The back end
13:47of their bullpen has been excellent. They were very
13:48fortunate of course to get to class A the way that they did
13:51yesterday. That doesn't happen very often. In fact, I think
13:53that's the first three run home run he's ever given up or
13:56something like that, but this is what the postseason is. It's
13:59fun. It's a tournament. It's March Madness in October.
14:02Expect the unexpected. I expect that to continue. It's
14:06a series outright Pickham price minus 108 for both the Tigers
14:10and the Guardians as we head to the Motor City. Well, Detroit
14:13will host a playoff game for the first time in a decade
14:17tomorrow afternoon, a doubleheader in the National
14:20League today in the division series first up in Queens at
14:24Citi Field tied at a game of peace where late game
14:28theatrics have been a story for the Mets and now into this
14:31NLDS against the Phillies. Craig, we enter game three
14:35tonight. Philadelphia is a favorite to win the set and win
14:39game three with Aaron Nola on the bump. Do you agree? Will
14:42Philadelphia hold the advantage at the end of a Tuesday night
14:46at Citi Field? I think this is going the distance, but I do
14:49like the Mets tonight. Sean Mania has been excellent since
14:52September. He's had one bad start. He's come up big in
14:55almost every game that he has pitched for them. Call me
14:58shocked. Of course, I am. I didn't see this guy pitching
15:01for them, let alone in a huge situation. Philadelphia still
15:04has the edge for the series guys. Their home field
15:07advantage is better than anybody's in Major League
15:09Baseball, but in this one game set tonight, I do think the dog
15:12again is live. I think the Mets have a great shot to win
15:16tonight. So how about the dog in San Diego? It's a much larger
15:21number in favor of Michael King and the Padres who blanked the
15:25Astros last week in seven innings of work striking out
15:2912. Greg on display tonight is really the story of this
15:33series. The pitching edge the Padres have. It's why they're a
15:36strong series. Outright favorite even in front of the
15:39preseason World Series favorites, the LA Dodgers. Yeah,
15:43give me you know, it's been over under over under sort of
15:46the shift back and forth in in these series. I understand that
15:50there are two good pitchers tonight, especially King on San
15:53Diego. I'm not necessarily buying it. Give me the over in
15:56this game tonight. I think the hitters are going to be really
15:58fired up with all the things that happened in the last game.
16:00I see some runs being scored tonight.
