00:00What's up guys, today we will be comparing the Galaxy S24 Ultra to the Note 20 Ultra.
00:06This should be a pretty good comparison because you guys will see how the Note 20 Ultra is
00:11able to remain so high in value, you know, still being around $400.
00:16So let's go ahead and get started.
00:17Again, the price of the S24 Ultra without a trade-in is going to be $1,300.
00:21Very expensive phone, but if you do trade like you're noting, you will get money off
00:25of course and some of you guys have had carrier deals and stuff.
00:29So take that into consideration as well.
00:31Alright, so let's go ahead and kick this off with the hardware.
00:34So both these phones have that boxy design still.
00:37They both have the S-Pen down below as you guys can see.
00:42And then we also have stereo speakers.
00:43The biggest hardware difference is that the Note 20 Ultra has SD card support and the
00:49S24 Ultra does not.
00:51And then also you'll notice that you do have a matte finish on the S24 so it doesn't pick
00:55up fingerprints and stuff like that.
00:58And then you have a glossy back so it does pick up fingerprints on the Note 20 Ultra.
01:03And of course you have an updated, more modern design on the S24.
01:07I still think the Note 20 still looks pretty good.
01:11Now the frame on the S24 Ultra, it is a titanium frame, but the S24 is definitely heavier than
01:20the Note 20 Ultra for sure.
01:23So definitely take that into consideration.
01:26And also it is a little bit thicker as well too, as you guys can see.
01:30Now when it comes to the S-Pen on both of these two phones, the Note 20 Ultra is still
01:34fast.
01:35You can still do digital artwork, but you do have a faster latency on the S24 so it
01:41does feel a little bit more instant I guess.
01:44But for the average person, you're not going to really tell the difference at all.
01:48But if you're somebody who does digital artwork, you definitely might be able to tell the difference
01:52for sure.
01:53Alright, so let's go ahead and talk about the displays here.
01:56So it's pretty interesting, this part.
01:58So the S24 has the Dynamic AMOLED, it's LTPO AMOLED, it's 120Hz HDR10+, has a much higher
02:07max brightness than the Note 20 Ultra at 2600 nits peak brightness at 6.8 inches, 1440p505
02:15for the PPI, has the Gorilla Glass Armor on here, and also has an anti-reflective coating
02:22on here as well too.
02:24Now the Note 20 Ultra has a slightly bigger 6.9 inch display, you can barely tell but
02:30it is a little bit bigger.
02:32And then it's Dynamic AMOLED, it's HDR10+, also at 120Hz, but the 120Hz is only at 1080p
02:40resolution, so you can't use the 120Hz at 1440p like on the S24.
02:47Now it is 496 for the PPI, so the biggest thing that's going to stand out here with
02:52the display is actually that the S24 is a completely flat display now, and it also has
02:59slightly thinner bezels as well too.
03:03But what I found was interesting is that the Note 20 Ultra, and I guess I really need to
03:10see these side by side, because in my unboxing video I didn't really notice it, but I notice
03:14it now, it is a little bit, the colors kind of pop a little bit more on the older Samsung
03:19displays.
03:20Now maybe this is something Samsung can fix, but yeah I did notice that the colors are
03:24just a little bit more vibrant.
03:27Now it's not like crazy noticeable and it's not like dramatic, but definitely it's something
03:32that I noticed for sure here.
03:35But there's a lot to like about the S24 Ultra's display, like I said it's flat, it has a much
03:40higher max brightness in direct sunlight, but I do like the more vibrant colors on the
03:47Note 20 Ultra, and honestly looking at both displays it's really not that big of a difference
03:52when you are really using these two phones.
03:55Like I said, even running the Note at 1080p it doesn't look that much different.
04:00I guess unless you're watching like 1440p content or something you're not going to really
04:04be able to tell.
04:06But yeah, some people they really like flat displays so they're really happy about that,
04:10it just depends on the person.
04:12But as far as display quality, it's not a dramatic difference here guys, it's really
04:18really not, unless you're somebody that uses their phone outdoors a lot, or yeah that's
04:23pretty much it.
04:24I think if you use your phone outdoors a lot I think that max brightness is a big deal.
04:29But if not, if you don't care about a flat display, and you don't care, I personally
04:34I don't think that running it in 1440p 120hz is a deal breaker.
04:39I mean it still looks good from like a normal distance, right?
04:43So yeah, so that's my opinion on the display.
04:45It's a good upgrade for sure, but like I said it's not a dramatic upgrade, you're not getting
04:49that much better of a display.
04:51Alright guys, let's talk about the specs a little bit more here.
04:54Alright so the S24, it does have Android 14 and it will get I think 7 years of major OS
05:01updates as well too, which is a new thing from Samsung.
05:04It also has a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, no SD card support, 256 gigs of internal storage
05:11and 12 gigs of RAM.
05:13The Note 20 Ultra got it's last major OS update with Android 13 and it's only getting security
05:18patches right now.
05:19It has a Snapdragon 865, it does have SD card support so you do have expandable storage,
05:26and then you also have 128 gigs of internal storage and 12 gigs of RAM on the base model,
05:31and you can get like the 256 gig model here.
05:35But as you guys can see, big difference here in the single core and multi-core score.
05:41This is the reason why I don't really harp on benchmarks that much, it's simply because
05:46the Note 20 Ultra is just as fast as the S24 Ultra and I know that sounds crazy looking
05:51at these benchmarks, but if we just like opening applications, animations, it's really not
05:57that different guys.
05:58Alright, I'm going to go ahead and run a quick little speed test for you guys.
06:01Alright, let's open up Google Earth, you guys can see, pretty much the same, and pay attention
06:08to the animations guys, because that's really what I was talking about, like they feel exactly
06:13the same as well too.
06:18Subway Surf, you can see, and of course, you can see the S24 is a little bit faster,
06:29especially when getting into games, but we're talking about like general applications, there's
06:34no, they're almost the same, like it's really not that noticeable.
06:39So that's why I don't get into like benchmarks and stuff like that, I want to do a more in-depth
06:44speed test and run a couple gaming benchmarks and stuff like that.
06:49This also, in my opinion, translates to gaming, and as far as performance, you're going to
06:54get great performance on the S24 Ultra, you can play PUBG in 90 frames, and I'm not getting
06:59any type of overheating problems or anything like that, so it's a really nice phone to
07:04game on for sure, but like I said, for the casual gamer, it's really not that different
07:09at all.
07:11As you can see, the Note20 Ultra is also going to be able to play PUBG also at 90 frames.
07:18I think the only biggest thing here that you'll find is that if you play a lot of games, the
07:23battery life is going to be better on the S24 Ultra, but as far as the performance itself,
07:29it's really not that different.
07:31I mean it feels exactly the same for the most part.
07:35So in my, the Snapdragon 865, I'm not getting any type of overheating problems on this one.
07:40This one typically stays relatively at a decent temperature as well.
07:45So yeah, so as far as speed and performance and stuff like that, not a big difference.
07:50I would say the biggest difference here when we talk about the software is that you're
07:54going to get updates with the S24, this is only getting security patches, and that's
08:01pretty much it.
08:02I mean they virtually do the same thing still.
08:05Even with this running One UI 5, it's not really that much different going on.
08:09All the same features are still actually here for the most part.
08:13And again, you do have a lot of AI stuff as well too, so I want to go ahead and talk about
08:18that real quick.
08:20So this is what Samsung's going to be pushing a lot is these AI features, and I'm pretty
08:25sure they're not going to bring it to the older Galaxy phones as far as the Note20.
08:30They might bring it to the S22, S23, but you've got the real-time translation during calls,
08:36the Samsung keyboard, you can change your tone, writing, spelling, grammar suggestions,
08:41all that.
08:42You have a live translator as well on here.
08:45Samsung Notes will automatically format stuff as well too, it'll organize it for you.
08:49And then you have the voice recorder, transform recordings into transcripts as well too.
08:55The photo editor, you get the new AI photo editor as well too, where you can move images
09:00around and stuff like that.
09:02You can get basically a summarization of a webpage.
09:07Now I will say the circle to search feature is pretty cool on here, so you would just
09:12like circle a picture and Google will find it, the wallpaper.
09:17So I think that's pretty cool.
09:19They'll be able to identify whatever it is, pretty accurate as well too.
09:24So yeah, so that's pretty cool.
09:26So you do have a lot of AI features with the S24 Ultra, but it really depends on if you
09:31really care about the AI stuff like that.
09:34If you don't, then obviously you don't.
09:38Let's check out the speakers.
09:39We got both at max volume.
09:41Start with the S24.
10:01All right, so it's pretty clear that the S24 does have better speakers.
10:22They're overall louder and they have a cleaner sound to it.
10:25It's way more bass to it as well too.
10:27So very good speaker upgrade here for sure.
10:30As far as the biometrics, they're pretty much the same as well.
10:33They have not changed.
10:34They're both very fast.
10:36They both have the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
10:38You can also use the face unlock as well too.
10:41I want to show you guys some side-by-side stills, but let's talk about the camera specs
10:44first.
10:45I thought this was pretty interesting.
10:46I was pretty impressed with the Note20 Ultra as far as the standard camera.
10:50All right, so let's go ahead and get started here.
10:53The S24 has a 200 megapixel standard lens.
10:57It's got a 50 megapixel periscope telephoto with the new 5x optical zoom, 10 megapixel
11:02telephoto with 3x optical, and then a 12 megapixel ultrawide camera.
11:07It shoots in 8K30 with a 12 megapixel selfie camera that shoots in 4K60.
11:13Now the Note has a 108 megapixel standard lens, 12 megapixel periscope telephoto with
11:195x optical zoom.
11:21It also does the 50x hybrid zoom.
11:23The S24 does the 100x max zoom, and then you also have 12 megapixel ultrawide, 8K video
11:31on the Note, and then also a 10 megapixel selfie that shoots in 4K60.
11:36Check out the side-by-side stills and video.
11:39Let me know what do you guys think.
11:40Do you guys think this is a massive upgrade when it comes to cameras?
11:44Be sure to let me know.
13:14All right, lastly, let's talk about battery life.
13:22This is a standout feature on the S24 and also the S23.
13:27This is when Samsung really stepped up the battery life game.
13:30So you have a 5,000 milliamp-hour battery on the S24.
13:34It has 45-watt charging, wireless and reverse wireless charging.
13:38And then on the Note20 Ultra, it has a smaller 4,500 milliamp-hour battery.
13:43It also doesn't charge as fast.
13:45It charges at 25 watts, and then it has the same wireless and reverse wireless charging.
13:50Battery life is going to be noticeably better.
13:53That is just a thing that's going to stand out if you do decide to upgrade or if that's
13:57like one of your big things.
13:59Battery life is way, way better.
14:01Standby time is better.
14:02Screen-on time is better.
14:03You can easily get through a full day, a day and a half if you're a light user.
14:07With the Note20 Ultra, it can pretty much do close to six hours of screen-on time.
14:12And again, that is depending on the battery health, right?
14:16And just a tip, I would highly recommend you guys just charge your phones to around 80%
14:20if you want to keep the battery health healthy.
14:24But yeah, battery life is going to be definitely much better on the S24 Ultra.
14:30I think that's where Samsung really stepped up their game.
14:33But that's pretty much it.
14:35So really great comparison, man.
14:38The Note20 Ultra, fantastic phone.
14:40I would say this if you're thinking about upgrading.
14:43You would have to want to upgrade, in my opinion, because it's not a necessary upgrade.
14:48It would have to be something that you really wanted because the screen is both really good
14:54on here.
14:55Hardware, you do get the SD card support, which is really nice.
14:58The S Pen still feels virtually the same.
15:00I thought the cameras, the zoom quality on the S24 was really good.
15:05The selfie cam was much better on here too.
15:08Overall, it takes better photos and it's better for social media as well.
15:12Yeah, so I think the cameras are a pretty good upgrade though.
15:15The cameras are a really good upgrade, but I think that's about it.
15:18Speed wise, not really that big of a difference.
15:21You do get more major OS updates, which is a big thing as well, depending on the person.
15:28But again, you're going to be paying a big price difference.
15:31So is that enough to make you want to spend that money and upgrade?
15:35It's really up to you guys.
15:37Like I said, it's not a necessary upgrade in my opinion.
15:40I would wait it out maybe a year or two, but if you are impressed with the S24 now, definitely
15:46trade it in.
15:47Go get it.
15:48It's going to be a good upgrade.
