THE key elements of Bat’s trad goth meets death rocker look are teased hair, dark makeup and black clothes. Bat creates her own jewellery and thrifts and alters a lot of clothes to create her aesthetic. The predominant colour in her look is black and she says she has never tried to incorporate colours - particularly pastels - into her wardrobe. She said: “Anything velvet, black, anything that makes me look like I might go to somebody’s funeral: instant need.” But today, Bat is transforming into a Y2K-inspired look. She said: “I just really want to branch out and see what different things are out there calling for me.” Makeup artist Cami took her back to the 2000s - what did she make of the transformation? Bat said: “It’s better than I could have ever even imagined, I think it’s beautiful.” But will she be swapping her trad goth look for this? She said: “God no, I would never.”

00:00I have never went out of my way to wear any sort of brighter color or pastels.
00:06Anything that makes me look like I might go to somebody's funeral, instantly.
00:12All down here, they're just stained red.
00:14Because usually I wear a lot of blood.
00:19Today I'm transforming from Death Rocker Triga to Y2K.
00:26I love it. I love it. I honestly really like it.
00:29I'm going to reveal the look to my mom and my sister at the end of the day.
00:41This is a coyote skull.
00:43It's one of my favorite things I have. I like to store my jewelry on it.
00:47I just personally really identify with bones and such because it just makes me fear death a little less.
00:54Knowing that there's still beauty in death.
00:59I would describe my style as Death Rocker meets Trad Goth with a mix of Victorian Goth.
01:06The key elements of Trad Goth is teased hair, dark makeup, chains, chokers, leather, fishnets, rosaries.
01:16All sorts of things that are dark or a little bit different.
01:22I first found this look when I grew up with my older sister who is also alternative.
01:28And I found Goth specifically.
01:30Victorian, Death Rocker, Trad Goth.
01:34And it just really inspired me.
01:36When I was 12, I remember finding my mom's eyeliner and sneaking it and putting it all over my lips.
01:42And putting it all over my face and buying all sorts of different fashion accessories.
01:48And then as I got older and found more about different subcultures and how to dress that way, I instantly just kept on going.
01:59What I do to make my clothes and accessories is I mainly go thrifting and find old objects that nobody really wants anymore.
02:09And I take them and I just get some paint, safety pins, and make it my own.
02:14This is one of my favorites.
02:16I really love just lace, anything with velvet, black, anything that makes me look like I might go to somebody's funeral.
02:26Instant need.
02:28These are snake vertebraes.
02:31These are real snake vertebraes.
02:34All down here, they're just stained red.
02:36Because usually I wear a lot of blood.
02:39Today, I'm going to switch my Death Rocker look into a Y2K inspired look.
02:44I might not feel comfortable in it.
02:47I have never went out of my way to wear any sort of brighter color or pastels.
02:53I'm really excited about just seeing myself in a new style.
02:58To see not only what I would look like, but what I would feel like and how everybody would react.

03:34We have a pink tank top.
03:37And we're going to put this over the tank top and it kind of ties in the front.
03:42It's a little mesh.
03:43Oh my god, yes!
03:45I like the textures of everything.
03:47I just, oh my god, it's just so different.
03:50I don't know what to say.
03:51It is different.
03:52It is different.
03:53I'm very interested though.
03:54It's going to be fun.
03:58How does it feel to have someone else doing your makeup?
04:01It feels different, but I find it kind of therapeutic.
04:05It really is.
04:06It's like getting a little facial.
04:07So why were you open to doing this transformation today?
04:10I am just totally welcoming to try a different look.
04:14I just really want to branch out and see what different things are out there calling for you.
04:19Fun!
04:23So when did you start your Try Goths transformation?
04:25I started about three years ago.
04:29I kind of like looking like a monster.
04:31It's affirming.
04:33I surprisingly don't face many challenges.
04:37But the toughest thing is maybe having someone take pictures of you or catcall you.
04:44Alright, there is that.
04:46And we'll turn your chair to start hair.
04:54Okay, you're all set.
04:56You can go get changed.
04:57I'm so excited!
05:00Oh my god.

05:33It's really different.
05:34I just feel like I didn't expect that.
05:36I didn't expect it to look so good.
05:40The fit goes nicely.
05:42I think that the hair clips are really cute.
05:45I love it.
05:46I think you did such a good job.
05:48Is this what you had imagined in a Y2K look?
05:51It's better than I could ever even imagine, to be honest.
05:55It's just, I think it's beautiful.
05:57Do you think you'll keep these clothes and wear them ever?
06:01God, no.
06:02I would never.
06:03I would never, but I totally understand.
06:05It was fun.
06:06It was fun.

06:15That's so freaking cool.
06:17I like it.
06:18She's cute.
06:19How do you think your mom and sister are going to react?
06:22I think that they're going to be shocked.
06:25I think they're going to love it, though.
06:27I really think that they're just going to be like,
06:29oh my God, I can't believe it.

07:06It's so shocking seeing you in pink.
07:09Yeah, I don't ever see you pink in your whole life.
07:12That's just weird.
07:13I love your style, and I don't want you to change it.
07:16I want you to express yourself however you feel you want to.
07:20I'm just grateful that you tried something out of your comfort zone,
07:23and I think you look great.
07:25I'm proud of you.
07:26I agree.
07:29After today and what I've been through,
07:31I think that I am most definitely going to stick to my style.
07:35I just feel so abnormal.
07:38I would never try again, but it was amazing.
07:40I loved it.
07:41It's just not what I think is beautiful.
07:44It's just not what I think is beautiful.
