00:00What do you want to say? What do you want to say? I want to say what's in your heart
00:06What do you want to say today?
00:09I'm not insulting Bradford, but about you and I and what we just talked about or about the 49ers in football
00:16I left it as an open-ended question
00:18I'm a free agent when I when I when I teach interviewing that is that is something that we effort as radio host we effort
00:26Thank you open-ended questions
00:28What do you want to say that is an open-ended question you cannot answer it with a yes or a no I
00:33What do you want to say? Yeah, unless that's literally what you want to say. It's just the word. Yes
00:38What do you want to say you could talk about whatever you want? You know what? I want to say mark
00:42What do you want to say? I want to say that
00:44numbers do lie and I know that you're a big like numbers are numbers unless numbers are numbers and
00:51Numbers and numbers are numbers right and so you could look at the numbers from Brock Purdy
00:57Last night and you could look at QBR or quarterback rating or you could look at whatever you want
01:02But having watched the game a second time today. I want to say that Brock Purdy was awesome
01:0918 of 28 which means 10 times he threw the ball and it was not complete and I'm looking at my notes of those 10
01:18Incompletes and at least five or six of them were times where he did exactly what we want
01:25Which is you're pressured and instead of running around and getting crazy and trying to do something
01:30You shouldn't he threw it away and of the 18 completions
01:34I'm thinking about a number of them that were
01:37Beyond elite the first touchdown throw to George Kittle at the pylon
01:42In the red zone where this red zone offense has been terrible it was beyond restaurant quality
01:48It was Michelin star quality
01:50Because that ball had to be put in a certain spot and it had to be put there in a hurry and it was in George
01:57Kittle pow two hands to feed in
02:01Dragoteau touchdown Niners that throw is amazing and the one that everyone wants to criticize all of you
02:07armchair Twitter
02:09Quarterback wannabes was the 76 yarder to Debo Samuel where oh
02:14He just floated it up there and thank God for Debo that he grabbed it and he saved Brock's bacon
02:21Well, no that throw was actually a perfect throw because the safety was closing
02:27he was late and if you would have led Debo down the field Debo either gets lit up or
02:34The safety deflects it or picks it off or whatever
02:37That was the first play from scrimmage after Seattle punted a 3-nothing game
02:42It's play action and Debo breaks out to the left side and he floats it out there that throw was
02:50Perfection he threw it a little bit behind Debo because that's where the empty space was and he trusted his yak brother
02:57To make the catch and do what he did which is catch it watch the safety fly by
03:02Felt like I was doing a top-gun thing, you know fly by I'm gonna hit the brakes
03:07He's gonna fly right by and that's what happened
03:09He hit the brakes and he flew right by and then Debo put on the afterburners touchdown. I thought Brock Purdy last night was
03:16Spectacular. There was a couple of scrambles early
03:19There were a few plays where he was running around and he got rid of the ball and he threw it where no one could
03:24Catch it and 18 for 28 does not look eye-popping and 255 is padded by the big Debo catch
03:30I get that Brock Purdy with every play that he could make he made it. I thought that he was spectacular last night
03:38okay, so I think it's such an interesting take because depending on who you are and what your eyeballs are doing I've heard a
03:46lot of different
03:48Takes on how Brock Purdy look last night. Nobody thinks he was awful. Nobody thinks he was even bad
03:53I don't even know how many people think that he was like mediocre
03:57But I hear a lot of well, he was not bad
04:01He was not that late
04:02What a great game
04:03But it wasn't bad and then you can like move that all the way up to you
04:07Who wants to give it a chef's kiss? Oh, yeah, which is which is fascinating to me now
04:12Let me start with this. Remember that Ben Solak guy who came on the station yesterday. So like so like watch it back
04:19Listen that guy comes on with Steini and goo and I didn't like what he said yesterday
04:24Which I don't have in front of me anymore
04:25Grandi if you want to pull it the one where he'd listen NFL's not for long
04:30We should have known that the Niner run was over because it just doesn't last in the NFL and I'm sitting here going
04:35What are you talking about?
04:37What good quarterback when he is under contract and playing in his 20s for a football team?
04:44Do we go? Well, that's the end of that like it's been three years
04:48Lamar so now the Ravens are gonna suck for a while. What are you talking about? No
04:52No, it's not not for long. It lasts when you have a really good quarterback. It lasts
04:58You're usually a playoff team
05:01Provided health every year when you have one of the top six or seven quarterbacks in the game
05:06And I believe that that's what the 49ers have. That's my opinion. It doesn't have to be yours, but Solak
05:13Literally puts up a video and Ben so like is with ESPN
05:16He's an NFL analyst, but he's also Brock Purdy hater, and I have no problem saying that
05:22I don't think he thinks he is that's the problem with Brock Purdy haters. None of them think they are
05:27They don't know I'm not saying he's I mean, I'm not ripping Brock Burt
05:31But how many times have we heard the sentence and nothing against Brock Burt?
05:36But and then here comes all of this BS that people want us to be of course
05:40Never watched an athlete in my entire life in any sport have so much success and have people do such
05:47Gymnastics to figure out why he's not actually good
05:50Weirdest thing I've ever seen and we've talked about it a lot
05:53we get it but Solak puts the video of the Debo play up on Twitter and
05:58This is what he writes now. Listen to what dibs just said
06:03Which is that and Herbie did too on the broadcast right said brilliant play by Brock
06:08To put the ball where the open space was and let Debo make a play on it
06:14If he leads him a little bit further, he's gonna lead him right into the safety
06:18It's either gonna be a pick or Debo is going to get blown up out of bounds
06:23so instead what happened happened and Solak writes I
06:28Don't want to relitigate
06:31Brock discourse for the
06:3547,000
06:37296 time
06:40But the big butt so what's got a big butt and it is it's an all-cap and you can send that to him
06:45He writes this is the sort of play that drives the film watchers nuts
06:52when it comes to parsing
06:55Purdy's impact on the offense
06:59Now someone called him out on it
07:02Later in this discourse former NFL players started calling him out on it saying this is exactly where you want to throw that ball
07:09but his response
07:11was
07:14This play that someone sort of suggested to him a different play goes. Oh, this is similar
07:19He goes they're very very different plays. It's not Debo's yak
07:23that is significant so much as the adjustment to the poor throw and
07:30crazy miss
07:32by the safety
07:34So now Purdy's throw into space is being
07:38Analyzed by a professional as a poor throw and a poor miss
07:44By the safety as opposed to a quarterback who threw the ball
07:49To an open spot. Yeah to create a playmaking opportunity for a playmaker
07:55That would not get picked or hit by a defender, which I'm pretty sure is the definition of quarterbacking
08:02Yes, I will say that he it was not a poor throw it was a good throw
08:07But it was a crazy miss and I'm watching it again right now. The safety comes up in
08:13Hufunga Ian
08:15Fashion and he just flies right by the safety thinks that he's got a chance to either break it up
08:22blow him up or do something that he actually was unable to do a
08:27Safety in this spot who is late?
08:29he's way late on the play a better thing to do would have been to break down to the 50 and try to slow down or
08:36Bring down Debo Samuel as opposed to fly by and have no chance to to break up the pass
08:43And then Debo. Oh, it's me and a
08:47Linebacker to the end zone. All right. Adios muchachos. I'm going to the end zone
08:52So the safety did make a terrible play
08:55But that has nothing to do with the throw
08:57But I'd argue that the safety made a terrible play because he's trying to time it and that's when Brock releases it
09:03That's where he thinks it's gonna end up
09:05That's where he thinks it's gonna end up because that's like the in stride spot
09:10But Brock throws to space so that Debo can make a move on it. I heard Debo talk about it
09:16He goes we're taught when that ball goes up you go attack the ball. Yeah, that's exactly what he did
09:21So what I find interesting and we are gonna do Grandy's grades in like
09:25I don't know maybe an hour and a half or so sometime later in the show nice Grandy without giving it away
09:31Can you just say yes or no?
09:35Did you give Brock Purdy in a plus
09:38No, okay. That's what I thought you'd say nor did I and I've done my grades. I don't believe in a plus
09:43All right. Sorry. Hey Grandy. Did you give Brock a straight a no
09:49Okay, you did I look forward to that
09:51Okay, because I've gone through all ten of his incompletes and I can defend
09:56Seven of them. Okay, and so and the the things he didn't do when he threw it as far as game management
10:03Huddle management and all the rest of it. He had a spectacular game. What about third and one on the opening drive?
10:09Debo had to make a great play. Yeah, not a great throw on an inaccurate throw
10:13Not a great throw and not a hard throw either. It's behind him. Yeah, that's really behind him
10:17Well that throw is probably a five out of ten and it's behind him high and behind him
10:23But which which often end up as interceptions they can but when you have a very good player
10:28You throw it in his catch radius, which it was and Debo was able to make the catch
10:34So here's kind of what I'm getting. I can't really quick. I have a quick correction
10:38I gave out a number of other a minuses. I did actually give Brock Purdy in a okay
10:44That's the end of that tease no, I'm kidding
10:47No, because honestly, I'm happy. I
10:52Heard a caller with Stiney and goo say I don't think it was a great game for Brock, but it was a solid game
10:59And I think there are a lot of people who think that too
11:02And so I thought it would be interesting. Yeah to hear from a lot of our callers
11:08Just answer that based off of what your assertion is
11:12How do you think Brock Purdy played last night and you can go wherever you want? Give it a grade
11:18Give it a review
11:19Give it a shot
11:21It's all you got. Thank you. That's a four. Okay, so like and and you know
11:27I actually and I don't know if this has ever happened before. I
11:31Think you've got a better grade on Brock than I do. Yeah, and
11:36Honestly, and so does Randy. Well, I give him an a-minus and having watched it again this morning
11:41Having watched it with fresh eyes knowing the result watching what he did
11:45I was really blown away and I had a back-and-forth with my father-in-law and I'll share that text exchange because I can't wait
11:53No, he's not listening
11:55Doesn't he listen we need listeners on this show. He's 80 so he's out of the demo
12:00I but still I was like, I don't care how old you are. Listen to the show for crying out loud
12:04We're talking sports over here. I've encouraged him to listen, but this is uh, I think Sudoku time
12:11We're in the chair doing Sudoku at 315, we're not listening to his son-in-law
12:16Sudoku, I'll share the text message. I know you're gonna love some of these. Yeah a couple of gems in there
