09 October - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Many of us have seen a fine Saturday and there's been some stunning autumnal scenes
00:05across the UK, from Nottinghamshire up into Inverness in the Highlands. Many of us have
00:11seen those sunny intervals throughout Saturday. Some of us will retain those into Sunday,
00:18but for others it's set to turn wetter and windier.
00:22For this evening though, the clear intervals that we have seen will remain across many
00:26areas of England and Wales. That will allow a few mist and fog patches to form, particularly
00:31in valley areas, and the temperatures will drop down a bit here as well. But as the cloud
00:36begins to build across Northern Ireland and Scotland, with the winds strengthening as well,
00:40temperatures will hold up more here overnight, many places staying in double figures.
00:46So a mixed picture to start Sunday, chilly in the south-east, milder further north-west.
00:52And we'll begin to see that rain spreading into Northern Ireland and Scotland as we move
00:56throughout the day. This could be heavy and persistent at times, potentially leading to
01:01some difficult driving conditions. The winds continuing to strengthen here as well, with
01:06gales potentially severe around some exposed headlands.
01:09For England and Wales, it will still be a fairly fine day and temperatures will be up
01:13a notch, with the winds coming up from the south with highs of 18 degrees, but cooler
01:18underneath that cloud and rain in the north-west.
01:22In the front, we will begin to see some clear intervals pushing into the western isles,
01:26and with this, a cooler and fresher feel of air, and that will slowly begin to push its
01:31way across Scotland as the rain band sinks southwards.
01:34That rain then throughout Sunday evening, pushing across Northern England into areas
01:38of Wales, it will tend to weaken out a bit as we move throughout the overnight periods.
01:43Many south-eastern areas will stay fairly dry, with a few missed patches possible again.
01:48So it's behind that cold front where we see that cooler air sinking south, where temperatures
01:53will take a tumble for Sunday night into the early hours of Monday, and a touch of frost
01:57is possible in places.
01:59The blustery showers we see filtering into western Scotland and Northern Ireland will
02:03continue into Monday. Some of these could be heavy at times.
02:06Meanwhile, the rain in the south-east clearing off and skies brightening as we move into
02:10the afternoon, and temperatures climbing to highs of 17 Celsius, a touchdown compared
02:15to Sunday.
