04:06They're also known as your accelerators
04:08because they're the muscles that are engaged when stepping or running forward.
04:11They allow you to push off with a jump and take wide steps.

04:24and that includes your opposing quadricep muscles,

09:58The iliopsoas braces your spine from the sides and keeps it supported as you run.
10:02It also stabilizes your core.
10:04But most importantly, it controls your hip movements.

10:08I can also make my legs go faster since they're attached.

10:12Sprinters train their iliopsoas muscles, and they really focus in on the psoas muscle.
10:17We haven't had a real reason to target that area until now, but let's work on that today.
10:21And you can do this exercise from home, too.

10:29This is called a bicycle crunch.
10:31It's a two-for-one because it also works your core.
10:34Start by laying on your back, shoulder blades down, and hands folded behind your head.
10:38Lift at least your shoulder blades off the floor and the legs to a slightly bent position.
10:42Keep your abs tight as you bring one knee up, touch it to the opposite elbow, pause, and squeeze the abs.
10:48Use your core to alternate right leg to left elbow and vice versa.
10:51Keep alternating legs until failure.
10:53You can always vary the speed to increase intensity.
10:56Bicycle crunches are great for the rectus abdominis, the oblique abdominals, and of course the iliopsoas muscles.
