27 August - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there. It is a rather cool and cloudy Sunday to come. If we take a look at the bigger
00:07picture we can see high pressure is trying to nudge in from the southwest, but it doesn't
00:12quite make it. So we're still in quite a cool northwesterly flow with variable clouds, some
00:17showers at times too over the next few days.
00:21So looking at the rest of Sunday and it's a fairly cloudy picture out there. There'll
00:26be some bright or sunny spells occasionally, but largely grey skies. Through the afternoon
00:31though we could see some heavy showers developing across eastern England. The odd rumble of
00:35thunder is possible, so do watch out for these.
00:38Dryer and brighter through the central swathe of the UK and then towards the west it's quite
00:43cloudy with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle too, perhaps just brightening up across Northern
00:48Ireland with a few showers later. And quite a cool northwesterly breeze, so temperatures
00:52high teens to low 20s, 21, 22 possible for one or two across the far southeast.
00:59The heavy showers across eastern England will tend to fade as we move through this evening
01:03time. This weather front just slowly pushes its way eastward through the evening into
01:07the early hours, breaking up as it does so, but it could produce one or two heavier bursts
01:12as well. And then clearer spells developing overnight for most, a few showers moving in
01:17from the Atlantic.
01:19A fairly fresh night in towns and cities holding up in double figures, generally 12 to 14 Celsius,
01:25but falling below this in the countryside.
01:28For Monday morning, a brighter start for many, some sunny spells. The remnants of this weather
01:33front just producing some cloud and patchy rain across eastern areas through the morning,
01:37this starting to break up into the afternoon. And then for most, generally a brighter day
01:41than Sunday. Still a lot of cloud around, but a lot of places dry, some sunny spells
01:46at times and the risk of a few showers just starting to turn a little breezier as well
01:51across the far northwest of the UK.
01:54As a result, with a little bit more sunshine, temperatures perhaps just a notch higher on
01:59Monday, highs getting into the low 20s towards the southeast, generally high teens for the
02:05vast majority of us.
02:07Looking over the next few days, the week ahead, it does stay changeable. We will see some
02:11rain or showers at times, but there will be some drier, brighter interludes too and temperatures
02:17generally around average, particularly during the day, perhaps a little chilly at night
02:21time.
