00:00He's caught! Touchdown!
00:04The New England Patriots select Drake May.
00:08He's got the ball! And that's the ball game!
00:12Alright, welcome to the All 32 Pod. Mike Giardi here with you. Will Parkinson, again, on assignment today.
00:16Which is to say, he's covering the Jets. Jets-Bills big game.
00:20On Monday night, I'm recording this on Monday afternoon.
00:24Bills coming off two straight losses. Jets coming off a pair of losses as well.
00:28Does anybody want to grab the mantle in the AFC East?
00:32Those two teams will take an opportunity and a crack at that tonight.
00:36Reminder, this show is brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive Daily Fantasy partner of CLNS Media Network.
00:40And Game Time, best tickets, best prices to get you into any event you want to see.
00:44Will and I use them often because they are excellent.
00:48Let's get into this immediately. I was at the Patriots game to see Drake May's debut against the Houston Texans.
00:52I guess we'll start with the Texans, who are now 5-1.
00:56They played with their food yesterday. They weren't awesome.
01:00Kind of like the 49ers with the Patriots a couple weeks ago.
01:04It looked like it wasn't close. The final score is 20 points.
01:08But then if you really thought about how that team played, maybe San Francisco could have won by 27 points instead of 17.
01:12Maybe the Texans could have done the same to the Patriots.
01:16At one point, it could have easily been 24-0 to start the game.
01:20And then who knows what it's like in that stadium.
01:24I'll tell you what. They turned over the Patriots four times.
01:28And they did that, not even really getting all that exotic on Drake May.
01:32Because quite frankly, they didn't need to. They played it fairly well straight up.
01:36And their guy was generally better than the Patriots guy, especially up front, which is something we've seen all year long.
01:40C.J. Stroud was outstanding.
01:44Made one ill-advised throw, the interception in the end zone that Marte Mapu got a hand on.
01:48And then Marcus Jones caught the deflection.
01:52And ripped that one in there. Probably a touchdown.
01:56Other than that, though, just in complete command, right?
02:00Seeing what the Patriots are trying to do to him, standing up in the pocket, having time in the pocket.
02:04Again, not a ton of pressure from the Patriots.
02:08And then they had a complimentary ground game for the first time since week one of the season.
02:12And in week one, Joe Mixon ran for 150. Well, Joe Mixon was back.
02:16And Joe Mixon and Damian Pierce pounded the Patriots 192 yards rushing in the game.
02:20They allowed 193 last week to the Miami Dolphins, who had Snoop Huntley at quarterback.
02:24So you could say, well, at least they had C.J. Stroud.
02:28And you were worried more about Stroud than the running game.
02:32But a couple of plus-50-yard runs, as Gerard Mayo said afterwards.
02:36Well, if we had just, you know, not allowed those, it would have been pretty good.
02:40Well, you don't get to pick and choose. Would you take in and out of the game?
02:44D'Amico Ryan's leading the Texans to their first win in New England in franchise history.
02:48Prior to – oh, by the way, they did it without Nico Collins.
02:52Tank Dell stepped up, did a nice job out of the slot.
02:56Patriots had a hard time covering him, whether it be with Jonathan Jones or Marcus Jones.
03:00And Stephon Diggs seems to play well in Foxborough.
03:04And he got Christian Gonzalez multiple times in this game, including early on when it mattered.
03:08And I thought it was interesting to me as I kind of went into this game and said,
03:12all right, how can the Patriots give Drake May a good game script against a very good team?
03:16And again, we argued that maybe last week should have been the week to start him against Miami.
03:20And or, heck, the argument to push it ahead one more week against Jacksonville,
03:24who's not very good and lost again over in England on Sunday.
03:28And we'll stay there for the week, and the Patriots will go out there and play them.
03:32But they decided to go with this.
03:34And I said, all right, well, so the defense, which has been much maligned,
03:38and obviously is dealing with its fair share injuries, still no Christian Barmore,
03:41John Bentley likely done for the season, although Barmore maybe we're getting some news
03:45that perhaps, perhaps, I mean, I wouldn't count on it, but perhaps he is progressing nicely.
03:50And there is a chance that we could see him later on.
03:53Kyle Duggar was back in the lineup, but no Jabril Peppers as he deals with the off-field discipline issues.
03:58So what do the Patriots do?
04:01Opening drive, 11 plays, touchdown.
04:04There was a questionable pass interference call that drew a lot of mentions on my social media feed
04:11and then boos of the crowd.
04:13You're right.
04:14It wasn't a DPI on Marte Mapu.
04:16It was a legal contact, which also, like DPI, is an automatic first down.
04:22And then I believe it was a player or two later that Dell from the slot comes across the formation,
04:27beats Jonathan Jones towards the back of the end zone and catches the touchdown pass.
04:31Then May comes on the field first time.
04:33Crowd is up on their feet, excited about it.
04:35They run the ball.
04:36The first two plays get nothing, which was a theme for the entire game.
04:39They rush for just 38 yards without Ramondre Stevenson in the game behind a new offensive line,
04:44again with a brand-new center, Ben Brown, who was signed on Wednesday.
04:48Flew a red eye to get to practice on Thursday because he was signed off the Vegas practice squad team
04:53and then was told Sunday morning that he was starting.
04:55In other news, Nick Levert, who was the starter after David Andrews went down a couple weeks ago,
04:59has been released by the team.
05:01He'd been dealing with an ankle injury but also very poor against Miami the previous week.
05:07But so third down, first third down spot, third and long.
05:10Felt a little pressure coming off the backside and sailed one about 20 yards out of bounds.
05:15Okay, fine, whatever.
05:16It's 7-0.
05:17This isn't perfect.
05:19Short pump by Bryce Barringer or at least 45-yard pump but low trajectory,
05:23which allowed for a 19-yard return.
05:25So Texans automatically start on the plus side of the 50 and then, again, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,
05:30down the field and score.
05:31And just like that, first two drives, we're not even 12 minutes into the game,
05:35and it's 14-0 Texans.
05:36So that was it.
05:40This team isn't good enough to dig themselves holes,
05:42and that's sort of something that they repeat on and on and have for the last now five weeks in a row
05:47that they've lost football games where they can't afford to make mistakes.
05:49But they are making those mistakes in their defense, which even after some of the injuries
05:56and whatnot, people still thought, oh, they could still be a top-ten defense.
05:59And then after they go beat Cincinnati, oh, they're going to be a top-ten defense.
06:02They're not.
06:03They're 28th in DVOA.
06:05Demarcus Covington doesn't have any answers.
06:08Personnel, yes, there are some issues, but in general, I feel like this scheme has been relatively easy
06:13for teams to decipher.
06:14And thus far, the Demarcus Covington-Gerard Mayo era has not looked great.
06:20After that, you know, settled in at the very end of the first half when they went to the two-minute drill,
06:26and you were thinking of 14-0, back up deep against their own goal line,
06:29maybe just run the clock out and get out of here, 14-0 reset.
06:32But, no, they let May chuck it a little bit.
06:34It got into a rhythm.
06:35Nice sidearm throw to Pop Douglas.
06:37Then, of course, the big one, the 40-yarder down the sidelines, his first-ever touchdown pass.
06:41Kayshawn Booty, who's first-ever touchdown catch.
06:44Booty beating Derek Stinley off the line of scrimmage.
06:47Those two have a history with each other back in their LSU days.
06:50Booty becoming more and more confident as a player.
06:52Had some nice moments, again, as Taequann Thornton was a healthy scratch.
06:56But so May finishes the game 20 of 33, 243 yards, three touchdowns,
07:01two interceptions.
07:03But, again, it wasn't a good half for him until the very end of the half.
07:07And then, of course, now you're only down 14-7 at halftime because, as I mentioned,
07:10I felt like the Texans sort of went into shell.
07:12They missed a field goal.
07:13They had the interception by Stroud.
07:15Could have easily been 24 to nothing.
07:17So 14-7, you're thinking maybe there's a chance.
07:19Opening drive, third quarter, strip sack, which May got clobbered on.
07:24They had problems with the tackles all game long.
07:27I thought that Zach Thomas and Demontre Jacobs were out of the league
07:31against Daniel Hunter and Daniel Hunter, excuse me, and Will Anderson.
07:35Will Anderson with three sacks in the game.
07:37Also got to put a little bit of that on Alex Van Pelt, right?
07:40Can't single those guys up, especially with guys that were both waiver claims
07:45from other teams on cut-down day and now forced to start for you,
07:49especially, well, Thomas had to come into the game after Vardarian Lowe
07:53got his ankle rolled up on.
07:54Lowe was due to get an MRI, according to Gerard Mayo, on Monday.
07:58But so you have that turnover, and then two plays later,
08:01the Texans are in the end zone again.
08:02Now it's 21-7.
08:03All the goodwill from the touchdown before the half
08:06and thinking that you might have a chance.
08:08You don't have a chance.
08:09You didn't have a chance.
08:11And I will say this for May, especially in that first half
08:14and sort of my notes and re-watching the game,
08:16just wasn't seeing it very well.
08:18And look, first start, I understand.
08:22We're not making bold claims one way or the other about what he is
08:25or what he's going to be.
08:27But in many ways, it felt like what I thought you were going to see,
08:30moments where the athleticism and his willingness to push the ball
08:34down the field would prove beneficial.
08:37The athleticism obviously do help protect the terrible offensive line,
08:40which, again, he still got hit quite a bit yesterday.
08:43Next-gen stats had him pressured 47% of the time,
08:46which is about in line with their season-long numbers
08:49with Jacoby Brissett, a quarterback the previous five weeks.
08:52Footwork, which you saw signs of when he came in
08:57and the Jets came to mop up, were still not where they wanted to be.
09:00You saw those again.
09:01There was a couple weird crossover pieces on his drop back
09:06that didn't make a lot of sense that they'll have to clean up.
09:09And like I said, the Texans didn't throw a ton at him,
09:11so the fact that he wasn't necessarily seeing it as well as you would like
09:15is just, again, a sign of inexperience.
09:17Guy hasn't played a ton of football,
09:19even dating back to his college years with North Carolina.
09:24But then, you know, late, obviously, the couple touchdown passes,
09:27the drive where he throws sort of the crossbody no-look pass
09:31to Hunter Henry for an explosive where, you know,
09:34he felt pressure on the backside, stepped up,
09:36and then slid out of the pocket, and then kept his head up.
09:39You know, he ran a few times in the game,
09:42and sort of that's what you're worried about.
09:43Maybe he's going to run too much, but in that case,
09:45head stayed up, and Hunter Henry realized that his defender
09:48sort of lost sight of him, came back into his line of vision,
09:51and that was a really nice play, a veteran play.
09:53Hunter talked about it afterwards, saying,
09:55with someone with that sort of athletic skill,
09:57you've always got to be ready to execute this scramble drill,
10:00and I think you saw that there, and you saw it well,
10:02good play action that led to, well, led to,
10:05that was the touchdown pass to Hunter Henry on the same drive
10:08where, again, you know, the defense sort of respects his ability to move,
10:11and Shaelen Petrie, the safety, sort of bit up,
10:14and that allowed Hunter Henry to slide into left flat
10:16for an easy touchdown.
10:18And then maybe, you know, I had a couple of what I would call
10:21my favorite throws, which I thought were better
10:23than even the touchdown pass to Booty.
10:25Threw a stick route to Jalen Polk.
10:27Polk dropped the ball.
10:28Polk had two more drops, and Mayo mentioned
10:30in his Monday press conference, like,
10:32he's got to get out of his own head,
10:33and he's got to get rid of these things.
10:34One of the big keys of why I liked Polk coming out was
10:38if the ball was in the air, he made it seem like
10:41it was always going to be his ball.
10:43He had strong hands, strong at the catch point,
10:45and he has now had a fleet of drops here
10:47in the last few weeks, and you have to wonder
10:49if maybe his playing time will get reduced a little bit
10:52until he sort of regains his confidence.
10:56So I had that one where Polk dropped it on the stick route,
10:59and then I, the throw to Hunter Henry,
11:02he also had a little subtle pump fake that helped open up
11:05Keishon Booty on a curl, which, you know, subtle.
11:10A veteran-type play where, you know,
11:12you didn't get a ton of that in the game,
11:14but it shows that he's watching and learning,
11:16and that is in his arsenal.
11:18So, you know, interesting week.
11:20They got to go to London to play the Jags,
11:22who, as I mentioned, lost and are now 1-5,
11:24just like you're 1-5, but that is, you know,
11:28some things to work with and to grope on,
11:30and I would say that now that he has his feet wet for real,
11:34it's a difficult game to go over it.
11:35Now I think it starts to become
11:37a little bit more tough coaching, right?
11:39Like, you did this, and we let this go.
11:41Now, going forward, you've got to get rid of that,
11:44and you've got to get rid of this.
11:45And I will say there were, you know,
11:47the footwork led to some accuracy issues,
11:48and you even saw on some completions,
11:50Pop Douglas had to make a great catch over the middle
11:53on basically a slant where it was wide open,
11:55and had he thrown it clean, Pop was still running.
11:58He did that a couple times in the game,
11:59and then late in the game, the final touchdown pass
12:01was the same play, except this time,
12:03he put it right where it was supposed to.
12:05So that is good growth as far as I'm concerned,
12:08and now, again, you've got to make sure
12:10that the layups are always layups,
12:12and you don't miss them.
12:13You don't, you know, bank them off the glass,
12:14hit the rim, and they fall off
12:15or make it more difficult than they have to be.
12:17Just put the ball in the spot
12:18and let someone like Pop Douglas go to work there.
12:23So mixed bag for Drake May, but again,
12:26I think the way Patriot fans feel right now
12:29and sort of reading the comments of my story
12:31on Sunday on the Boston Sports Journal,
12:34and then sort of monitoring the pulse of the fan base,
12:38like, hey, you know, we didn't have this
12:40with Jacoby Brissette, and again,
12:42it's a glimmer of hope,
12:43and hopefully he can continue to build on it,
12:45again, knowing that there'll be steps back,
12:48because that's just the way it goes
12:49for a rookie quarterback,
12:50but hopefully he can continue to progress,
12:53and then you see maybe what you're seeing
12:55with Caleb Williams, who's got off
12:56to a slow start for Chicago,
12:58and then settled into a very nice groove here
13:00in the last three or four weeks for Chicago.

13:52Prize Picks, run your game.
13:55Let's move on to the next one.
13:56I thought a fantastic game.
13:57And speaking of young quarterbacks,
13:58Ravens commanders, Ravens win the game 30 to 23.
14:02Dan Quinn did say, and it kind of felt this way
14:04in the rewatch, is that it was never really as close
14:08as the final score indicated.
14:10But my first takeaway from the losing side of it
14:13for the commanders is Jaden Daniels, man.
14:16Like, I keep waiting for Jaden Daniels
14:18to hit this wall or to look like he's confused
14:21by something the teams are bringing him.
14:23And that game was, again, as I mentioned with Drake May,
14:26it wasn't a good game script.
14:27They were down early.
14:28They put him in some third and longs,
14:30actually put him in a bunch of third and longs.
14:32And he just makes the right decision
14:36a large majority of the time.
14:38And then not only is it the right decision,
14:40but then it's the precision with which he throws the ball.
14:43And like you saw at LSU when he won the Heisman,
14:46the big thing was the deep ball.
14:47And he's obviously got that in his bag.
14:49We've seen it already.
14:50But some of the short stuff, and now even a little bit more
14:52of a willingness to throw the ball over the middle
14:54of the field, which wasn't something they did at all at LSU.
14:57And it was really, aside from his frailty,
14:59was the only other concern I had about him coming out of LSU
15:02was, you know, May threw the ball to the middle of the field.
15:06Caleb threw the ball to the middle of the field.
15:07It seemed like Jaden Daniels didn't want to.
15:09And when he did, he wasn't all that successful,
15:11which only then leads to, well, I'll keep it outside the numbers
15:15and work that way because that's what I do best.
15:17But you're seeing a little bit more come into his game.
15:20And, you know, the Commanders had been on a roll.
15:23They'd lose the game.
15:24They're now 4-2.
15:25But, I mean, you've got to feel great
15:27if you're a Commanders fan about that.
15:28It was 24-35, 269 yards, the two touchdowns.
15:33I also think just, you know, he's not surrounded by much.
15:36We know McLaurin is a terrific player,
15:38a really good receiver, although not of the elite group.
15:42Throwing to guys like Noah Brown,
15:43who was claimed off waivers from the Texans,
15:45like they had high hopes for John Dotson.
15:47They ended up trading him in the preseason
15:49to a division rival in the Eagles,
15:51and he's done pretty much nothing so far.
15:53And then I think it was interesting
15:54to hear the Ravens talk about Daniels afterwards
15:56and not just Lamar, who threw him his flowers,
15:59but the defense.
16:00Like, they were like, he's a dude.
16:02Like, he's a real dude.
16:03And they felt him put pressure on them all game long.
16:07And even though they did a nice job
16:08of hemming him in between the tackles
16:11and sort of keeping him in the pocket,
16:13he still threw for 269.
16:14He didn't turn the ball over.
16:16And when he had to, you know,
16:17he made a couple plays with his legs.
16:19So that kid is fantastic,
16:22and it's looking like at least through
16:24the first six weeks that you got hits at one and two,
16:28and we just saw the third quarterback
16:30get picked and finally play,
16:31and he had his moments as well.
16:33So there's gotta be some excitement
16:34about the quarterback class so far.
16:36To the Ravens, who've now won four in a row,
16:39and the 0-2 start is long gone and forgotten.
16:42I think the only reason that may come into play
16:44later in the year is if maybe Kansas City
16:46continues to walk the high wire
16:48and win games that maybe they shouldn't
16:51and end up with the number one seat overall in the AFC.
16:53But the Ravens look fantastic.
16:56The run game is elite.
16:58The Derrick Henry thing that we talked about
17:00in the preseason on this pod
17:01and even during the first couple weeks,
17:03we're like, it just doesn't totally look right.
17:05It now looks right.
17:06They ditched the pistol stuff.
17:07They're going high with him.
17:09They're playing power football.
17:10The offensive line's still not completely there yet.
17:13So he's having to run through contact
17:15behind the line of scrimmage at times,
17:17and he can still do it.
17:19And as you saw that game go on,
17:21Washington defenders, and this happens
17:24every single week with Derrick Henry,
17:26when he's going, I want to tackle him after a while
17:29because it hurts.
17:30And he does do a great job of building up
17:32that head of steam.
17:34And I think Todd Munkin, the offensive coordinator
17:37in year two with the Ravens,
17:38has done a terrific job sort of utilizing him
17:41and realizing, look, the pistol stuff
17:43and all the other things that we were trying to do
17:44the first couple of weeks, it's not who he is.
17:46And if we invested in this player,
17:48let's give it a shot with what he does best.
17:50And then Lamar is, you know, he's a chameleon.
17:54He can do a bunch of different things
17:56and he continues to do that.
17:57So Henry has been a huge bonus for them.
18:00You know, I compared it in the beginning
18:03to Lamar Kingram where Lamar's ball handling
18:06is so adept that defenders would be looking at Lamar
18:10and not realizing that he handed the ball off
18:12because they were so afraid of Lamar versus Mark Ingram.
18:15And Ingram was a good player.
18:16Now he's putting it in the belly of Derrick Henry
18:20and there's fear of Derrick Henry
18:22more than there was ever of Mark Ingram.
18:23And of course there remains the massive fear
18:25of Lamar Jackson, who's still top 10 right now
18:27through the first six weeks in rushing
18:29in the national football league.
18:31Derrick Henry is number one in rushing.
18:33So that is just a devastating combination.
18:35And again, if that offensive line can sort of get up to speed
18:39as you're still working that out, they're dangerous.
18:42It feels like offensively they are a better team
18:44than the one last year that was the number one seed.
18:47And then on Lamar, like 20 of 26, 300 plus yards.
18:53He's now got nine touchdowns on the season passing
18:56and just one interception.
18:58He got Mark Andrews involved yesterday.
19:00Rashad Bateman starting to come to life there as their ex.
19:03We know Zay Flowers is a good player.
19:05Isaiah Likely is a good player.
19:07There's just a lot of balance on that offense.
19:09And Lamar was awesome last year.
19:12He deserved his second MVP.
19:14If you had to put last year up against this year
19:17through the first six weeks, I would say the six weeks
19:19that we've seen of Lamar this year is better
19:21than the six weeks last year, which would make him
19:23at this point in October the 14th, on October the 14th,
19:28for me, the leader in the clubhouse for MVP.
19:31A lot of football left to play, obviously,
19:33but just that's how in control he is.
19:36Like with Munkin, who had a bad playoff game,
19:39and Lamar had a bad playoff game,
19:41and that cost him against the Chiefs, ultimately.
19:44And, of course, the Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl.
19:46They're going to be measured by what happens in January
19:49and, they hope, February.
19:51So this is all great, but it feels like a very confident team,
19:55a very explosive team, and one that, as I mentioned,
19:58not only the offensive line, but defensively,
20:00still trying to find their footing.
20:02And I thought it was interesting this past week,
20:04just quickly, I don't want to bore you with the details.
20:06Dean Pease was brought on board.
20:08Dean Pease, who was the defensive coordinator
20:10for the Ravens under Harbaugh for years,
20:13with the Falcons, with the Tennessee Titans,
20:15under Mike Vrabel.
20:18He was with the Patriots as well.
20:20He's 75 years old.
20:21He coached Dak Orr, who's now the DC of the Ravens,
20:24and, as we've mentioned before, a young DC in his early 30s.
20:28And they've stayed in touch, and their defense
20:30isn't doing what they want it to do.
20:32And they said, Dean, you want to come in, have a role?
20:34He was in the coach's box, I believe, on Sunday.
20:37And I just can't help but think that extra set of eyes
20:41with someone who's seen as much football as Dean Pease has
20:45will help.
20:46It should help the Ravens going forward,
20:50because, again, I think that it's a terrific,
20:53terrific football team.
20:54Let's hear from one of our sponsors now.
20:56It's game time.
20:57Of course, we got NFL football.
20:59We got playoff baseball.
21:01Although, again, as I keep saying,
21:03we don't have that in Boston anymore,
21:05because ownership doesn't want to spend.
21:07But if you're looking for tickets for any of that stuff,
21:09for college, for a concert, whatever it may be,
21:12game time is the place to go.
21:14They have a new feature called Game Time Picks,
21:16which means getting tickets to see your favorite teams
21:19or favorite artists even easier.
21:22Game Time Picks filters out the fluff
21:27to show you only incredible deals on great seats,
21:29so you don't have to waste time searching
21:31through thousands of tickets.
21:32And I know you, like me, have done this.
21:34We're not going to name the other sites,
21:36but you're on there, and it's like,
21:37no, those are too expensive.
21:38And then, oh, I got to reset the whole thing
21:40and start over with a different set of criteria?
21:42Like, no, no, no.
21:44Game Time Picks, make sure that is easy peasy.
21:47You get it done.
21:49And the great thing about this, too,
21:51if you download the app, create the account,
21:54use code CLNS, and you get $20 off your first purchase.
21:58So, like, I'm going to a game,
21:59but you're going to give me $20 off that?
22:01That's fantastic.
22:02So, again, terms apply.
22:03So you just download the app, create the account,
22:06and redeem the code CLNS for $20 off.
22:11Download Game Time today.
22:12What time is it?
22:13Game time.
22:15I'm betting Will probably used Game Time
22:17for his Jets tickets this evening.
22:20Let's move on now to Lions and Cowboys.
22:23And this was a primetime game.
22:25Tom Brady on the call again.
22:26Tom Brady doesn't seem to get a lot of good close football games,
22:29and he's still a work in progress as a broadcaster.
22:32But aren't we all?
22:35What an absolute ass-kicking by the Lions.
22:4047 points.
22:41Jared Goff, three touchdowns, no picks.
22:43Throws for 315 yards on just 25 attempts, 18 completions.
22:47They turned the Cowboys over five times,
22:50and this was in Dallas.
22:52And Dallas felt like this was a measuring stick game for them.
22:55Well, it turns out it was a measuring stick game for the Lions,
22:57who wanted to remind everybody that they are arguably,
23:02not even arguably, right?
23:03They're the best team right now in the NFC.
23:07Just absolutely a dominating performance,
23:10held the Cowboys to 3.9 yards per play in the contest.
23:18But, of course, all that's overshadowed by what happened late in the game.
23:22Aidan Hutchinson, their former first-round pick from a couple years ago,
23:26who is truly their best player on defense,
23:29an absolute force off the edge, but also plays the run well.
23:32We're not talking about just a one-trick pony.
23:34This is someone that is very effective against the run
23:38and has become the heartbeat of that defense.
23:40Breaks his leg in that game.
23:42Essentially got the leg whipped by his own guy
23:44as he was engaged with quarterback Dak Prescott.
23:48And you knew it immediately.
23:51Guys took a knee.
23:52They took him off on a cart.
23:54He was in the air cast and had surgery shortly thereafter.
23:58So that would probably indicate,
24:01and we still don't know whether it was a compound fracture,
24:03which of course would be the worst of worst,
24:06but it would feel like he's not going to be back this season.
24:09And so now the best player on a defense that's good,
24:13but that he brings a different element to is now without that guy.
24:18And, you know, they tried Marcus Davenport.
24:20They took a flyer on him in the off season.
24:22He's hurt.
24:23Hasn't, you know, done anything for them.
24:26So to lose Hutchinson means that I immediately went to the trade deadline,
24:30which is November the 5th.
24:32So about three weeks away.
24:35And say, what's out there?
24:37Because we know that the Lions are built to win now.
24:40Goff's contract, the extension kicks in, I believe it's next year.
24:44So, you know, when the guy ends up starting to make 50 plus million dollars,
24:48it makes things a little bit more difficult to manage your cap.
24:51And you can't keep everybody.
24:52I mean, you can, but you, you, you know, eventually you'll pay the price.
24:57Although, you know, the cap is pretty malleable and it keeps going up.
25:00So I don't get too caught up in that, but it's a big chunk for golf.
25:03The number is going to go up sizably and they have to decide how they want to
25:08approach this. And I just, it's a quick perusal.
25:10And I don't know if any of these guys are available and situations may change
25:14over the next few weeks, but I sort of went down like, you know,
25:17some of these guys are past rush specialists.
25:20Some are more every down players, but just off the top of my head,
25:23off of teams that are struggling and might be looking to sell guys that might
25:27fit the bill for Detroit.
25:30Jadavion Clowney obviously is one in Carolina. Carolina's terrible.
25:33Clowney, you know, he's, he missed the game yesterday.
25:36He's not always healthy,
25:38but coming off a fantastic year for the Browns two seasons ago.
25:43You know, he's a talented guy, even if he doesn't like to practice.
25:46Z'Darrius Smith in Cleveland, not the same kind of player.
25:50They move Z'Darrius around a little bit more, but again,
25:53a proven past rusher and the Browns are one in five and they too are headed
25:58nowhere. Arden Key, who's on the lighter side and not on the same level,
26:04I would say as Clowney or even Z'Darrius,
26:06but Tennessee is not a good team as well.
26:09And you wonder if they want to move off their spot there.
26:12It's not a sexy name at all, but if you go bypass rush win metrics,
26:17Dennis Gardek of the Arizona Cardinals has had a solid year.
26:24Now he's kind of a journeyman, but in his late twenties, but again,
26:29who knows what sort of players will be available or what the Lions are willing
26:34to spend. Josh Uche from the Patriots, Patriots one in five.
26:39He's on a one year short money deal. Now that's a totally different player.
26:42He's 225, 230 pounds. But again,
26:45if they don't feel like they have enough pass rush,
26:47put them on that defensive line, just say, Hey,
26:49you're going to get 15 to 20 snaps a game as a rush guy only.
26:53Maybe he can give them something, you know,
26:55two years removed from a double digit sack season.
26:58And then the one name that I sort of, you know,
27:00it's off over here because Cincinnati won yesterday to improve to two and
27:05four. They've won two of their last three, two or three or two in a row,
27:08whatever the two and four try Hendrickson.
27:12And they'd be low to give up Hendrickson if they win even a game over the
27:17next couple of weeks.
27:19But if they were to lose a couple here and be two and six or what have you,
27:24then maybe, you know,
27:25Hendrickson has wanted a new contract sort of how to hold in during camp,
27:29much like Jamar chase,
27:32but he would be an interesting one because I don't know, again,
27:35they have to pay chase, which they still haven't worked out that deal.
27:38There's probably going to be some internal push to try to keep T Higgins.
27:41You're seeing what Higgins is doing now. And he's on the last, you know,
27:44he's on a franchise deal.
27:45And the general consensus is that he will hit free agency,
27:48but just curious if Cincinnati continues to scuffle or goes back to
27:53scuffling if Hendrickson becomes available.
27:56And I think, look, the, in the short term,
27:59the lions can probably survive the loss of Hutchinson just because they're a
28:04good team.
28:05But I think that tends to show up when you play better opponents.
28:08And he's someone that commands that attention from better opponents that say
28:12we've got to block, you know, we've got to keep a second guy in there.
28:14We've got to double him.
28:15And that opens up opportunities for other people.
28:17None of the guys that I mentioned there, except for maybe Hendrickson.
28:20And again, that's a long shot.
28:22Would even command any of that sort of attention would be more guys that would
28:27be trusting your offensive line to single block and hope that that suffices.
28:33It is the most wonderful time of the year. Yes.
28:36The NBA season, folks. It is the best.
28:40Look, the NFL is great. I understand.
28:43But if you're looking into star power, celebrity, entertainment,
28:49it's the NBA. There's no doubt about it.
28:51And my Celtics, I'm looking for them to defend.
28:53We need a new dynasty in the NBA.
28:56We need one.
28:57And I think this Celtic group can do it.
29:00I know this Celtic group can do it.
29:02And you know who else, from what I understand, is a Celtic fan?
29:04It's Hugh Jackman. Yes.
29:06Wolverine himself, the greatest showman, Hugh Jackman is a big Celtic fan.
29:11And if you're like us and you want to check out the Celtics or maybe any other
29:14team that happens to be coming to town to try to knock off the kings of the NBA,
29:18the Celtics, make sure you go to GameTime. Download the GameTime app.
29:22Now GameTime, and you can get your Celtics tickets there.
29:24It's really easy to do.
29:26GameTime has a new feature called GameTime Picks that makes getting tickets
29:30to see your favorite teams play live even easier because GameTime Picks
29:34filters out the fluff, right, to show you incredible deals and great seats
29:39so you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
29:43Like when I go to my GameTime app, it says Celtics game right there.
29:45Boom, pops up how much the price is. I'm ready to go.
29:48It's as simple as that.
29:50They have super deals. They're as good as it gets.
29:53Check it out on the GameTime app.
29:56And again, I can't emphasize how easy it is, even for an idiot like me.
30:02You download the app. It's got a G on it for GameTime.
30:06You just click it on. You can designate where you want to go, what you want to do.
30:10You can, you know, favorite your games and your cities and so forth.
30:13And it pops up on the screen. You click it on, and there you go.
30:15And you're off and running. It's as simple as that.
30:18They also have curated deals to make it easy to find best prices and great seats.
30:22They have the super deal. And I love this part.
30:26You know the view of your seats before you buy them.
30:29You know what you're getting.
30:32And it has the lowest price guarantee, event cancellation protection,
30:35job loss protection, and so much more.
30:39So GameTime Picks. Curation makes it easier to save more on concerts, comedy, theater, sports.
30:46Oh, speaking of concerts, Coldplay coming to Gillette Stadium in July of 2025.
30:52Tickets are already up on GameTime. Not bad either. Not bad at all.
30:58And the Jingle Ball kiss, the kiss, you know, the iHeart, iHeart Jingle Ball at the Garden.
31:03You can get tickets on that too. And they always have big stars around Christmas time.
31:07So all in pricing, toggling. They call it toggling.
31:11It shows you everything up front. No surprise fees to check out.
31:16And I mentioned the seat views. Great panoramic views so you know you're buying.

31:39Again, create an account and redeem the code CLNS for $20 off. Download GameTime today.
31:46What time is it? It's GameTime.
31:49Quickly on the Cowboys side, Jerry Jones said he's not considering a coaching change.
31:53I would say, are you sure about that, Jerry? Teams now 3-3, 0-3 at home.
31:57They're headed into the bye week.
32:01Mike Zimmer, they brought him back this year after Dan Quinn left to take the Washington Commanders head job.
32:07Zimmer's scheme's not really causing a lot of problems.
32:11And look, they didn't have Demarcus Lawrence. They didn't have Micah Parsons.
32:15But they had him before and they still weren't playing at a good level.
32:19This was the Yent degree. But the two biggest ass kickings, I think, of the entire year were both suffered by the Cowboys.
32:28What the Saints did to them earlier in the year.
32:31And then, of course, this one with 47 points. It's just unthinkable.
32:36And then from an offensive standpoint, which is where Mike McCarthy hangs his hat, they can't run.
32:43Can't stop the run either. And they're devoid of outside weapons.
32:47You know, it's CD Lamb and then who?
32:49You know, Brandon Cooks was on IR because of the infection in his knee.
32:52But the other pass catchers are just, they don't scare anybody.
32:56And when on top of that, with Rico Dowdle and the corpse of Zeke Elliott trying to run the football, it's pretty bad for them.
33:06And I get Jerry doesn't like to fire people in season.
33:12Jerry has notoriously been cheap, period, when it comes to coaches.
33:17But it makes you think with sort of the investment that they have in guys like Prescott.
33:21And obviously, they're about to have in LA having lamb and they're about to have in Mike Parsons.
33:26If he doesn't say like, OK, kind of like Detroit, our window is coming up here and we need to do something.
33:31And it's probably it's not probably it's too late to do it this year.
33:34But in the offseason, is he going to call Bill Belichick?
33:38You know, I have to I have to wonder about that.
33:42I think it would make some sense.
33:46But, you know, Bill, what does he want to control?
33:48And he definitely wants to bring the band all back together.
33:50Patricia McDaniels, Joe Judge, et cetera.
33:53If that would be to Jerry's liking as well.
33:56Let's stay in the NFC East Eagles and the Browns.
34:02Twenty sixteen Eagles win.
34:04Barely get it done.
34:05Browns were on the three yard line and shot themselves in the foot with a couple of penalties.
34:11But the takeaway from this is Nick Sirianni is unhinged.
34:15And I wonder about his long term future.
34:18I wonder about his short term future with the Eagles.
34:21And you say he shaved his head.
34:25When I heard that, I was like, really, what are we doing?
34:27Like you're trying to change the whole karma thing.
34:29You're a head coach.
34:30You're supposed to be the stable guy that organization looks to.
34:34The players look to you to provide leadership.
34:36All right.
34:37Coach is shaving his head. Is he a little whacked?
34:38Yeah.
34:39He's yapping at Browns players during the course of the game.
34:42Then near the tail end of the game.
34:45And you can find the clip.
34:46He's yapping at fans behind the bench.
34:49Now you say, well, Mike, they were in Cleveland.
34:51No, no, no.
34:52They were in Philadelphia.
34:53He was yapping at his own fans.
34:55And then he had a bizarre press conference afterwards.
34:59He had his kids up there kind of like as a human shield.
35:02He swore a couple of times.
35:03He had some weird answers to questions.
35:05Like it just seemed like the guy was melting down a little bit.
35:10Jeffrey Lurie, the owner, not a big fan of Nick when he's gone after some people
35:15in the stands before.
35:16He did it in the Colts game.
35:18Kind of like, calm down, dude.
35:19You're, again, what I was talking about.
35:20You're the leader, the figurehead.
35:22Like be above all of that.
35:24He's not.
35:25And his team's not playing well.
35:26And even though they won and they improved to three and two,
35:31I have a lot of questions week to week about this team.
35:33One week they look good.
35:34And then the next they got run over by Tampa Bay.
35:36And then here the Browns are a bad, bad football team led by a bad,
35:40bad quarterback and can't get them inspired.
35:45He had A.J. Brown back.
35:46He had Devontae Smith back.
35:48And A.J. had a good game.
35:50Jalen Hurts statistically looks like he had a good game.
35:53But Jalen Hurts hasn't been the same guy now dating back to the Super Bowl year.
35:57So we're talking about a, whatever, 20-something games, 25 games,
36:00where the Jalen Hurts that I thought had come upon the scene when they went to
36:05the Super Bowl and went toe-to-toe with the Chiefs, he's not here,
36:08not as confident in his legs, not using them as much.
36:10And he's not a great decision maker.
36:12So if you're going to take away one of your biggest strengths is your ability
36:15to move, throw in the run by sitting in the pocket
36:19and then not making the right decisions or making some panicky throws,
36:22I don't see how that's beneficial.
36:25And, look, again, they committed a lot of money to him.
36:28Big injury to Jordan Malata, their left tackle, hamstring,
36:31and at least Monday morning, and again, I'm recording this Monday afternoon,
36:35but Monday morning it appeared like that might be something that's a little bit
36:38more long-term and they can ill afford to lose him.
36:42Quickly on the Browns, they're 1-5.
36:46DeSean made a couple throws late to get them close before they imploded.
36:50But this is a team that is a mess.
36:54It doesn't matter who you hear, what you watch,
36:57like he is not playing confidently.
36:59He is not playing poised.
37:01He's been hit a lot this year.
37:02Their offensive line is a bit of a mess, which can be a great equalizer.
37:06But they committed a fully guaranteed contract to this guy
37:10and haven't gotten good play out of him since they got him.
37:13And it has got to be just like mind-boggling for some of the people
37:18in the organization because Kevin Stefanski once again said,
37:22we're sticking with DeSean.
37:24So I don't know if that comes from above.
37:26I would imagine it does.
37:27The owner has them, not the easiest to deal with,
37:30and was the one who drove that trade and signing in full
37:34and drew the wrath of most of the NFL owners.
37:38But whatever, the NFL owners are cheap.
37:40But that's been the only guaranteed,
37:42fully guaranteed quarterback contract to that number.
37:44I know a lot of these guys get a lot of guaranteed money,
37:46but no one's ever had it fully guaranteed like that.
37:50I have another ad.
37:52And you say, Mike, well, you should have that in front of you.
37:54Well, I do now. It's prize picks.
37:56And just for the record, the best fantasy site going, right?
38:02Your boy wants some money. I'm just telling you.
38:04And also, whenever you're doing this thing, this is a long-term thing.
38:09More or less, field goals made.
38:12Aubrey, the kicker for the Cowboys is cash money, length of kicks.
38:16The combined total is usually 48.5.
38:19Usually you kick a 150-plus yarder every game.
38:21Mike, you might want to put them into your little mixes here.
38:27So a reminder, between two to six players you pick, more or less,
38:31and increase your winnings.
38:33You can win up to 100 times the money that you put down
38:37on the more or less wagers.
38:40Just fantastic.
38:46I'm pausing because I'm trying to think of other things that I did.
38:50Derek Henry again, more or less, touchdowns.
38:54That's been like a lock every week, half touchdown, more, more, more.
38:58So just download the app today.
39:00Use code CLNS to get $50 off instantly after you play your first $5 lineup.
39:05Again, you don't even have to win to get the 50.
39:09Prize picks, run your game.
39:11It's no joke.
39:13Having a lot of fun with that.
39:16Last game that I want to get to here.
39:23Bears and Jags.
39:26For me, it's pretty simple with this one.
39:28It's just the growth of Caleb Williams.
39:30I mentioned Jaden Daniels.
39:32We talked about Drake May.
39:34Now what about Caleb Williams?
39:37It started two games ago in the second half Rams game
39:43where he just started playing quarterback.
39:46It became less about pushing the ball down the field,
39:48trying to make splash plays, cross body, no looks, this, that.
39:51The other thing, it was just like, okay, they're giving me a profit right here.
39:55Boom.
39:56They're giving me a profit right over here.
39:57Boom.
39:58Going through his progressions.
39:59One, two, three.
40:00You can see the eyes go.
40:01Marrying the lower half to the upper half.
40:03Marrying it to the head and to the eyes.
40:07It was kind of cool to see him sort of get a national stage.
40:11The early, the 930 kickoff East Coast time with the London game
40:15against Jacksonville.
40:17Jacksonville goes down the field.
40:18Should have had a touchdown.
40:19Gabe Davis drops it.
40:21You're like, okay, Jacksonville tends to play well in England
40:24and a little frisky.
40:26Then Caleb just went out there and just balled.
40:29I was critical of Shane Waldron.
40:31For a second straight week, I'll tell Shane Waldron
40:34that he's not on my suspect list anymore,
40:36because he has clearly gotten away from the just Caleb-centric offense
40:41and has been able to find balance.
40:43They're still not a great running football team,
40:45although they rush for 132 against the Jags.
40:47But it's sort of reminiscent of how San Francisco has attacked it,
40:51where Shannon always said, just give me 25, 30 runs, right?
40:54And like, you know, eventually we'll rip one or two of them off.
40:57But even if we just have the 25 runs for 75, 85, 90 yards,
41:01it just forces the defense to play respectfully of the whole thing.
41:07And you have to understand that he will hand the ball off,
41:09and this isn't just going to be a passing show.
41:11And Swift's come on.
41:13Roshun Johnson's done a nice job in there.
41:15But it's the Caleb show.
41:18They got Keenan Allen back.
41:19Keenan looks pretty good.
41:20I just think he's maturing at a rapid rate.
41:22And if you saw him in college,
41:24I know there were questions about maybe his sort of –
41:28he's one of the first real NIL big money babies.
41:31You know, when he had the penthouse outside of USC
41:35and was driving, I think, a Ferrari and all those things
41:37while he was still in college.
41:39Well, feels like the guy wants to be good, great even.
41:43And he's shown some vast improvement here over the last few weeks
41:48and it would be incumbent upon him to continue.
41:50But Chicago, which got off to that rough start,
41:52and we were kind of like, see, I think people jumped aboard.
41:55They're still probably the fourth best team in the division,
41:57but they're a dangerous team.
42:00I wouldn't necessarily want to play him.
42:03So Caleb Williams is coming along fast.
42:05Waldron's done a decent job with him.
42:07They've got good pieces around him by far in a way.
42:10When you look at the top three picks at quarterback,
42:13by far and away the best collection of weapons around him.
42:16The offensive line's not awesome, but I think the running has, again,
42:19sort of helped them in terms of the pass blocking,
42:21gets you a little aggressive, gets you a little bit confident.
42:23And then every once in a while you have to step back
42:25and receive the block instead of dishing it out.
42:28They've shown an improvement in that regard.
42:30So the Chicago Bears, fun team, fun team.
42:33It's been a fun year so far.
42:36We'll get a full update from Will the Thrill on Jets-Bills.
42:40Looking forward to that game this evening.
42:42We will be back on Friday.
42:44I apologize for my absence on Friday of last week.
42:47I had to make a trip and I packed all my gear.
42:51And, well, I didn't pack all my gear.
42:53I brought all my gear up from my downstairs office
42:56and left it on the kitchen table,
42:58which you can't record a pod if you don't have your stuff.
43:02So we'll be back on our normal schedule.
43:04We'll see you on Friday.
43:05Thank you for listening.
43:06A reminder to tell all your friends that you love this, the All 32 Pod.
43:10Like, listen, subscribe, review.
43:13We appreciate it, and we'll see you soon.
43:16He's caught! Touchdown!
43:19The New England Patriots select Drake May.
43:23He skipped the ball! And that's the ball game!
