00:00:00He's caught! Touchdown!
00:00:04The New England Patriots select Drake May.
00:00:08He's got the ball! And that's the ballgame!
00:00:12Here we are. It is week one. We've got our first game already in the books. A Thursday night
00:00:16thriller between Baltimore and Kansas City. Mike Giardi alongside Will Parkinson.
00:00:20The All-32 pod as we get...we're just so fired up. I have so much
00:00:24energy for this. Stayed up till midnight. You know me. I don't like to stay up that late, but when it's
00:00:28football, I'm all good. A fantastic game. So we've got that to get into. We're going
00:00:32to preview some of the other games. Will, just other thoughts about what's going on during the
00:00:36NFL this week? Yeah, no. Last night was fantastic. Great start. Great to have
00:00:40the NFL season back. Referees. Exciting plays.
00:00:44Thrillers. You know, the whole nine yards. We got everything last night.
00:00:48Rain delays, etc. So everything excited to get into this one.
00:00:52Our first Sunday preview pod. And obviously we're going to talk a little Jalen Ramsey.
00:00:56And obviously talk about last night's game. Aaron Meyer to the All-32
00:01:00podcast. Brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner
00:01:04of the CLNS Media Network. And game time. Best tickets.
00:01:08Best prices to get you in to see any event you want. Absolutely
00:01:12two things that we lean on here, Will and I do, because they're that good.
00:01:16And you should want them too. So we mentioned the game. And I guess before we even
00:01:20get into the game, I almost lost my mind in the first quarter.
00:01:24I understand the league saying, we want to
00:01:28correct the illegal formations. We don't want to have tackles lined up in the backfield.
00:01:32Way too many calls. Like, this is your signature
00:01:36event. It's your first game. The world is ready for you. And you're doing
00:01:40what? You're going to call how many flags? And then quite frankly, even as the game went on
00:01:44and they stopped calling it, you're looking at it going, boy, it doesn't feel like it was
00:01:48too much different than it was in the first quarter. You just now decided not to call it. I just have this
00:01:52fear that that's what this weekend and maybe the next couple are going to look like.
00:01:56And I'm not here to see those guys make that call. Yeah, a couple different things. You mentioned
00:02:00that. Look, we know respectfully the teams that are
00:02:04the Chiefs or people of the Yankees used to get these calls. The Patriots obviously got
00:02:08them. And it always happens with teams that are good, right? For sure.
00:02:12But it does feel like there's always a special whistle for the Chiefs. I thought last night was
00:02:16no different. I thought the Spagnolo letting him call a timeout there. Unbelievable.
00:02:20I mean, that's not a bias. Yeah. Ticky-tack. Was it pass interference?
00:02:24You can't do that. And they got away with it. It was a pretty big call, obviously.
00:02:28And it's not on the refs to account for
00:02:32if Andy Reid's in shape enough to love Andy. But you know what I mean? At the end of the day,
00:02:36that's not their problem. The Stanley
00:02:40couple, there's the four calls. I think four of them
00:02:44were on Stanley. He said that I think they're making
00:02:48an example out of me. They probably were. The Ravens are an organization that
00:02:52probably feels like they usually get the calls and they weren't getting them last night.
00:02:56It just feels like I understand the reason they have the rule. But John Taylor
00:03:00is like 99% of the reason, other than him and Lane Johnson have been the biggest
00:03:04culprits of this for the last 24 months in specific where people have really pointed out.
00:03:08It's just crazy to me that John Taylor is the reason this rule kind of got so much
00:03:12publicity last year. It was Thursday night football, week one last year
00:03:16against the Lions. He did it like 800 times last night and it didn't get called off.
00:03:20At some point, I just think the biggest thing with the refs, and this is
00:03:24what I'm going to say on the rest of the season. You'll hear me say it over and over. If it's consistent,
00:03:28even if it's garbage, I'm okay with it. Because at least you know it's coming.
00:03:32The inconsistency on roughing the passer, pass interference,
00:03:36the one pass interference that was Juju blocking downfield
00:03:40wasn't, but then Rashad Bateman was. The illegal formations. I think people
00:03:44are just asking for consistency. The product has already gotten dwindled down
00:03:48a little bit between kickoff, the commercials, the flags. Don't make it worse.
00:03:52This always happens week one. We usually see it in the preseason though, Mike.
00:03:56Don't you feel like, and this is weird that we saw it week one. Normally, the preseason
00:04:00is egregious and then week one happens. You're like, oh, I forgot that rule even existed.
00:04:04Patriots had to deal with it in their preseason finale. Troops of Corps for I think
00:04:08a call three times. I think in winter we got called once for the illegal formation.
00:04:12That's a big story locally about, oh my God.
00:04:16What's going on? What are they being taught there?
00:04:20I'm not here to see the refs. No, not at all.
00:04:24I'd rather let them err on the side of let them play more, let there be a little bit more contact
00:04:28like on some of the downfield stuff or what have you than to have flag after flag
00:04:32after flag. I'm over it already. I'm already over it.
00:04:36That's for the game itself. Kansas City gets the win 27-20. They get it by
00:04:40the end of the season. They avoid going to overtime or maybe having the Ravens go for two
00:04:44by the tip of Isaiah Likely's toe. Likely had a monster game
00:04:48the tight end out of Coastal Carolina in year three who I absolutely loved coming out
00:04:52and has continued to make me look good in that regard. I want to start
00:04:56with the Ravens, Will, because they are my Super Bowl pick.
00:05:00You were texting me last night. Oh, I don't know. I don't know. Didn't you say if they don't
00:05:04get it done this year, you're not allowed to pick them again? I'm not all that concerned about it.
00:05:08Look, they have problems on the right side of their offensive line. There's no question about it.
00:05:12Look, unfortunate circumstances. The offensive line coach passed away
00:05:16this summer, so they're sort of adjusting on the fly there.
00:05:20Some young players, some new players, three of their five guys that started
00:05:24last year are playing for different teams, but I just trust in
00:05:28the development that they have over there and the coaching to figure that out.
00:05:32It may look rugged in the short term, but I think in the long
00:05:36term, they have a tendency to figure it out, and they're also one of those teams
00:05:40that wouldn't be afraid to get aggressive, say, week six or something,
00:05:44as you get closer to the trade deadline, if they felt like, look, we just need to shore up
00:05:48this spot. We got to go do something to shore up this spot. I think that's a brain
00:05:52trust that's shown they're willing to do that. I guess the other thing that I would look at from the game
00:05:56is Lamar Jackson's usage. 273 yards passing,
00:06:00122 yards rushing. You and I were talking beforehand.
00:06:04He took a lot of contact yesterday, and some of it was of his own doing. He lowered
00:06:08shoulders and tried to finish runs, which I appreciate
00:06:12trying to send a message to both the Chiefs and his teammates.
00:06:16I know how last year ended to these guys, and I'm all in. You're going to get
00:06:20the best of me. He's lost weight on purpose
00:06:24because he felt like he was fat and slow last year, which is ridiculous. He's neither fat nor slow,
00:06:28and he looked faster last night, but
00:06:32his body's not built to absorb that. One of the great things that he did for years and years was avoid
00:06:36that contact. He'd get this wiggly run, 8, 9, 10 yards, get the first set,
00:06:40duck out of bounds. Mahomes does that. Not that he's nearly the same athlete
00:06:44that Lamar is, but he'd duck out of bounds before he gets that big hit and then maybe
00:06:48flop when he went out of bounds. That's going to be something that
00:06:52I think they're going to have to monitor. I would imagine that the meetings
00:06:56today going into next week and the meetings with Lamar will be
00:07:00like, look, we appreciate it. You're a baller, but it's a
00:07:04long, long season, and if we're going to do anything, we need you upright
00:07:08and at your best come January.
00:07:12I'm going to sound like I'm down on the Ravens for a couple reasons, but I also don't think it's
00:07:16outlandish. I think they're things they can improve on throughout the year.
00:07:20New defensive coordinator, so there was always going to be a bit of an adjustment there. We saw one huge
00:07:24coverage bust that led to an Xavier-worthy touchdown.
00:07:28I feel like I don't think I took into account just how much of a
00:07:32career year a lot of those guys had in Baltimore last year from a defensive
00:07:36perspective, along with Mike McDonald. I think a lot of those guys are still awesome football players.
00:07:40Matt Ibuka had an incredible year. Jadavion Clowney is 9-10 sacks.
00:07:44He's a great player. He's just never been that guy in terms of sack production.
00:07:48Gino Stone, the seven picks, led the league,
00:07:52and then obviously leaves. Marcus Williams is healthy now. Kyle Hamilton
00:07:56another year. Marlon Humphrey is a year older. I'm curious to see what he's going to look like as time
00:08:00goes on. I just feel like that defense is going to be really good. I don't know if it's
00:08:04going to be top two or three in the league. I think it might be more like six or seven, and that's not
00:08:08by the way to say they're not going to be a great unit. Justin Tucker
00:08:12missing a kick last night felt weird, and again
00:08:16he's missed like last year. I feel like he was still really good.
00:08:20He's still taken over 28 of the 32 kickers, no matter what, without even thinking.
00:08:24That was always in a 100% automatic part of their game.
00:08:28It's just something to monitor throughout the year. Kickers are weird.
00:08:32Connor Rodgers made this point, and I think it's a great example. They're like relievers.
00:08:36Justin Tucker's been like Mariano Rivera for a long time.
00:08:40I'm just pointing it out there. I'm just curious if there's any
00:08:44type of decline in terms of Tucker at all throughout the year. It will affect him.
00:08:48Again, he's automatic from like 65 in. Again, weird last night,
00:08:52but the defense was still awesome. You hold them at home at 27 points and force
00:08:56some turnovers, hit them a bunch. Offensively, I thought
00:09:00Lamar was really good, but the A dot going into the
00:09:04middle of the third quarter was one or under one, I believe.
00:09:08Zay Flowers looks explosive, looks awesome, but it's a lot of bubble screens. It's a lot of stuff, and again
00:09:12I know it's part of his game, but it felt like they're taking deep
00:09:16post shots to Isaiah Likely. Again, who played great. It's not taking anything away from him.
00:09:20It just felt like Lamar felt really good, but a little wonky at times.
00:09:24They don't feel like they have that one field
00:09:28stretching big time player that can then open up stuff
00:09:32in that intermediate. They're so around the line of scrimmage, and I can't tell if Todd Munkin was
00:09:36just protecting Lamar, protecting against that offensive line a bit. That could have been it,
00:09:40and maybe next week we'll see a totally different Ravens team, and they'll go put up 50 points, and I'll look
00:09:44like an ass. Again, I think you mentioned it.
00:09:48The Ravens, I think, look good. They don't look quite as awesome,
00:09:52and again, it's against the Chiefs, so week one,
00:09:56in Kansas City, all those are fair.
00:10:00I just was a little concerned there, and then the only last thing, and I mentioned on our last pod,
00:10:04the Derrick Henry thing is going to be interesting.
00:10:08Obviously, touchdown, first drive. He had that couple, I think it was
00:10:12the fourth down and one other run. You're like, there it is. Then a lot of the other times, it was like
00:10:16that looked a little Adrian Peterson in Washington,
00:10:20Le'Veon Bell with the Jets, just a little bit like, doesn't have the same juice.
00:10:24Just something to monitor, again, with the Ravens. There's a lot of moving pieces, a lot of changes there,
00:10:28so just a minute to monitor with them.
00:10:30That's a great point about Henry, because he obviously finished some runs, and that's sort of what he's there for.
00:10:34Flip side is, they looked a lot more explosive when Justice Hill was on the field.
00:10:38I know, by the way, Justice Hill got a lot of crap for those two plays.
00:10:42He blocked Chris Jones on both of those.
00:10:44Yes, he did. First of all, what sort of design would you
00:10:48leave him alone against Chris Jones? He did the job
00:10:52against Chris Jones. My last point on the Ravens,
00:10:56look, it shouldn't have come down to the toe. He had likely opened
00:11:00in the back corner, overthrew him, nearly got likely killed,
00:11:04and then he had Zay Flowers. Granted, he was on the move a little bit, and I think
00:11:08he and Zay were not necessarily on the same page as to where Zay was settling
00:11:12and where he was throwing, but you're the two-time MVP.
00:11:16You've got to make one of those throws. He didn't.
00:11:20That makes a phenomenal play on the toe out of bounds, but
00:11:24again, maybe you don't even get to that point. Maybe we're not even talking about the toe.
00:11:28Maybe we're talking about the Ravens scoring the touchdown a play or two prior, going for two,
00:11:32getting it. I was going to say, they were going for two, no? Yeah, pretty much.
00:11:36That's horrible. I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to play for overtime either.
00:11:40Absolutely. What did you think about the Chiefs
00:11:44because obviously, look, this is a great way to start the season. You beat
00:11:48the team that was the best team in the regular season last year.
00:11:52You looked a little bit more explosive last night, but I
00:11:56think we're already overreacting to what we saw.
00:12:00We're overreacting. I didn't think they ran the ball particularly well.
00:12:04They didn't really try, frankly, but when they did,
00:12:08it didn't look awesome. I thought it was like Pacheco was fine. He had a couple plays. He had the one drop,
00:12:12but he had a nice screen play. Obviously, the touchdown, which
00:12:16I'm not sure why that wasn't called dead, but it doesn't really matter.
00:12:20Look, I think the Chiefs are going to be awesome. I think I had them as the one team, if I'm not
00:12:24mistaken. I think you had them as the one or the two. Peter Schrager and
00:12:28every single person under the sun has picked the Chiefs to win the title. Chiefs or Ravens pretty much
00:12:32have been the title pick from either one, so I get it.
00:12:36Mahomes was good last night. I didn't think he was actually that good.
00:12:40The interception was horrible, and that should have led to seven points.
00:12:44You can't make the mistake. I don't care who you are. Over the middle of the field,
00:12:48you're Armstrong, buddy, but you're not going to feel it.
00:12:52Rocon was just sitting there. He got very lucky, obviously, with the one he caught.
00:12:56It actually almost helped them ice the game that he caught that one that got batted down.
00:13:00Xavier Worthy was explosive. I think that's what you'll see him do.
00:13:04I think we're overreacting a bit with Xavier Worthy. The one play
00:13:08is a wide-open touchdown, and the reverse was special.
00:13:12That's special speed, special blocking, pursuit angles.
00:13:16Also, unscouted look there, too.
00:13:20Not that Andy and they won't come up with something off that or a different
00:13:24variation of it, but it kind of caught the Ravens not
00:13:28ill-prepared for something like that. I don't want to harp on the Chiefs too much,
00:13:32because I think we just kind of know where they are. The Ravens were more of the, well, let's see what they are going
00:13:36in this game. My only other thought on the Chiefs is they're going to be awesome.
00:13:40I mentioned this in the last, but I think what makes them
00:13:44special is that their defense, McDuffie, Chris Jones,
00:13:48in particular, I think where they're two best defensive players, in my opinion,
00:13:52when they let those guys go out and make plays and Spaggs is drawing it up, it kind of puts a little bit of fear in you.
00:13:56They run the football really well. Mahomes can just dice you up and down. Third down,
00:14:00him and Kelsey. Rasheed Rice was awesome last night. Again, you get the news he's not going
00:14:04to be suspended this year, which is interesting, to say the least.
00:14:08There's all that. The Chiefs looked awesome. They kind of are what you expected
00:14:12them to be in this iteration of the Chiefs' dynasty, which is great defense,
00:14:16they're physical, and Mahomes is Mahomes.
00:14:20The one guy I would say that I was concerned about in coming off an injury, Nick Bolton
00:14:24is one of the better players in the league. He did not have a good night
00:14:28last night, to say the least. Just curious, again, a guy that's
00:14:32not overreacting, just curious what he's going to look like the next three or four weeks.
00:14:36Again, coming off the injury, Isaiah likely got him more than
00:14:40a few times last night in not so good fashion. Again,
00:14:44I keep reiterating it, what makes this Chiefs team special and what will get them to another
00:14:48three-peat, to try to three-peat, will be this defense more than anything.
00:14:52We do need Nick Bolton to be good, because he's a key in that middle.
00:14:56Again, not too much with the Chiefs. One guy on each side, Tucker and Bolton,
00:15:00who are special players, both had weird moments last night.
00:15:04We were like, ooh, what was that?
00:15:08I'll give you a quick wrap on that. Leo Chenal did a terrific job for them. They pointed him
00:15:12out on the broadcast. They were putting him in the A-gap, and then he was
00:15:16spying on Lamar, and look, spying on Lamar is not an easy thing
00:15:20to do. Lamar had, obviously, 122-yard rushing, but didn't break one
00:15:24of those crazy runs. I thought he was all over the field
00:15:28last night. Jalen Watson is the opposite corner to Trent McDuffie. Without
00:15:32legerious need, they needed someone to step up. Watson gets the first crack at it
00:15:36and had a couple really nice plays last night. That late breakup of a pass
00:15:40down the sideline was absolutely gorgeous. Hey, guess what?

00:16:48Breaking down the rest of the Week 1 slate, although we will save
00:16:52the Monday Niner for our taping on Monday, and you're going to be
00:16:56excited about that one. I know you've logged about 72 hours already
00:17:00previewing 49ers and Jets, but let's start with the game Friday night
00:17:04in Brazil, Green Bay versus the Eagles. Eagles are favored
00:17:08by 2.5 points in this one. I have no idea why we're playing in
00:17:12Brazil, and I know why we're playing in Brazil, but they shouldn't be playing in Brazil.
00:17:16That's neither here nor there. I can't control that. The league is greedy, and they're going to do what they want to do.
00:17:20Guys aren't all that psyched about it. For me, the
00:17:24thing that jumps out about this game is the Eagles obviously changed coordinators, both
00:17:28offensive and defense, but I'm pointing to the defensive side of it because I thought last year
00:17:32defensively, when they fell apart 1-6 down the stretch, their defense
00:17:36was wretched. Vic Fangio now in charge. How does his scheme,
00:17:40especially the pass defense, stack up against the Packers' pass attack,
00:17:44which over the second half of the season into the postseason was awesome.
00:17:48In particular, they target the slot a lot. Jordan Love will
00:17:52work that. Jaden Reed, they have multiple players they can put
00:17:56in there and thrive with. Meanwhile, Philadelphia could not defend
00:18:00guys out of the slot last year, which is why they drafted Quinion Mitchell and Cooper
00:18:04Dejean. Cooper's had a tough summer in terms of injury. He's back, but
00:18:08whether he's the guy in there, whether it's Mitchell, who initially I think they wanted
00:18:12to keep outside but have moved inside at times, whether he's in there, they feel like they've
00:18:16gotten better there, but now we have to see it. I'm really curious to see Matt LaFleur
00:18:20with his system in place and now Jordan Love with a full year under his belt as the starter
00:18:24and those pieces around him that he helped elevate last year, how they fare
00:18:28against a Fangio defense. Again, Philadelphia
00:18:32lost their identity on all sides last year, but defensively
00:18:36there's enough talent there that it shouldn't look like it did at the end of last year.
00:18:40Yeah, and we'll get to a couple of things, a couple of Steelers notes,
00:18:44quarterback notes to get to. We'll get to the Steelers game and we'll get to Ramsey at the Dolphins game, so don't you worry
00:18:48Dolphins fans. My biggest question marks on both sides
00:18:52of the football, or keys going into this game, are the four big-time additions, two on
00:18:56each side for the Eagles and for the Packers. My biggest things
00:19:00for the Eagles, Bryce Huff. How do they deploy him in this Fangio scheme?
00:19:04I talked with Bryce a bunch this week.
00:19:08He's excited to get out there. He's rocking the number zero, dropped the number 47.
00:19:12Swag levels are much higher than they were
00:19:16here at the Jets. How do they deploy him and can they kind of create
00:19:20that pass rush? Can he replicate where the sun reddick's been to them the last few years?
00:19:24It's what's made the Eagles defense two years ago as special as it was in last year
00:19:28obviously where they struggled on offense. How do they deploy Saquon Barkley? Do they lean heavy
00:19:32on Barkley? Do they ease him in? Are they going to
00:19:36try to save the miles for later in the year? He's obviously on a three-year deal, two of which
00:19:40based on that contract will be the meat of it. How do they deploy him?
00:19:44That's my question from a Philadelphia Eagles perspective. Green Bay,
00:19:48Josh Jacobs, Xavier McKinney. Last year you mentioned the pass attack
00:19:52with Green Bay. Aaron Jones, when he came back, we saw them lean on that in the
00:19:56run game in the playoffs and they ran the ball extremely efficiently. AJ Dillon
00:20:00was gone for the year. What's Josh Jacobs going to look like this year? Two years ago, rushing title.
00:20:04Last year, Schell himself obviously didn't practice a single time until week one.
00:20:08The Raiders, obviously, O-line actually wasn't terrible.
00:20:12He just didn't look the same. He had a couple of nice moments.
00:20:16Then Xavier McKinney on defense, new scheme, new defensive coordinator, big time
00:20:20addition. Safety was a problem for them in years past. What does he look like?
00:20:24Those are four guys who big money,
00:20:28big expectations, big two franchises who think they might meet in the title game.
00:20:32What are they going to look like on prime time down in Brazil in week one?
00:20:36Let's move to Steelers-Falcons. You mentioned, because I blew through
00:20:40something we were going to do at the top, Pat Frymouth gets a contract extension from Pittsburgh.
00:20:44Russell Wilson is watching on at practice during individual
00:20:48drills. Brie Pryor, ESPN reporter, Justin Fields is throwing.
00:20:52It seems like we might be turning towards a field start here. It doesn't feel like
00:20:56Russell's probably going to play. We'll see. The calf has been an issue. Pittsburgh is
00:21:00at Atlanta. My big question on this one is, we didn't see
00:21:04Kirk Cousins in the preseason. He's coming off the Achilles. He's not a young
00:21:08man. I know we talk about Aaron Rodgers and his Achilles thing.
00:21:12I don't know what that's going to look like. I know that they did a bad
00:21:16job because of their quarterback play and maybe some of
00:21:20Arthur Smith's play calling. Arthur's not there anymore. Raheem Morris is the head coach.
00:21:24Deploying those weapons, leaning on someone like B. John Robinson, who shouldn't
00:21:28be getting 12 to 14 touches a game. He should be in the 20s.
00:21:32Kyle Pitts, obviously, that might be a regrettable
00:21:36pick, but it's not like he's not talented.
00:21:40Then, obviously, Drake London. Can Cousins hold up
00:21:44to a pretty good rush? Obviously, TJ Watt on one side,
00:21:48Highsmith on the other, Cam Hayward, who got his extension earlier this week, coming up
00:21:52the gut. Mike Tomlin, they'll bring it. They always do
00:21:56defensively. Is he mobile enough and
00:22:00is he in rhythm enough, because he didn't play in the preseason, to be effective?
00:22:04There will probably be as many Pittsburgh fans as there are
00:22:08Atlanta fans for the opener. I don't know how much of a home field advantage
00:22:12it's going to be. In my gut, it just tells me, based on
00:22:16the Steelers' issues offensively, especially at the quarterback
00:22:20position, as you mentioned, that this should be Atlanta's game if Cousins is
00:22:24somewhat like the Kirk Cousins that we know.
00:22:28It's a great point. I think I have a similar kind of question on the defensive side of the football.
00:22:32Pittsburgh's had a lot of offensive line issues throughout the preseason. Injuries, guys like
00:22:36Roger Jones, just simply playing quite poorly. And Fields
00:22:40and Russell Wilson, who both hold the ball for an eternity. Whoever's playing quarterback,
00:22:44Matt Judd on Grady Jarrett. Jarrett coming off the injury, a guy who
00:22:48didn't know he had comeback player of the year odds, but I guess those exist.
00:22:52And Matt Judd on, who's obviously not gotten that extension yet that he's looking for.
00:22:56I have this feeling Judd on's going to go out and have three or four sacks
00:23:00similar to the way he did early in 2022.
00:23:04And it's a lot of doing the celebration, the whole thing, and he's going to
00:23:08come out and be like, yeah, I know I was playing the good guy after I was the bad cop in New England,
00:23:12now I'm the good cop. I kind of want to be the bad cop again, and I want my money still.
00:23:16I just have a sneaky feeling that's what we're going to see from Judd on
00:23:20Sunday. And then from a Steelers perspective,
00:23:24what's the running back situation going to look like? I think Jalen Warren's a far better player than Najee Harris.
00:23:28Agreed. But I also think Arthur Smith likes to play the guys that everybody else thinks
00:23:32aren't very good. And it's the Arthur Smith revenge game. Is he going to just pound
00:23:36Najee 30 times into the ground because Warren had the hamstring
00:23:40and that's what Arthur Smith does. So I just am curious
00:23:44from the running back situation there because I think if the Steelers are at their best, it's Pickens,
00:23:48it's Warren, it's Firemuth. It doesn't feel like
00:23:52they're at their best when it's Najee and trying to run the ball into people's
00:23:56backs a million times. So I'm just curious from that perspective. And then I said,
00:24:00the Atlanta defense, specifically Judd on
00:24:04as much as he's played the good cop the last two weeks,
00:24:08he was a guy who's getting in-house suspended essentially in New England and got his way out.
00:24:12So bad tackle play. Offensive line's banged up.
00:24:16First home game. Judd is always up for the moment and I'm curious
00:24:20to see what he's going to look like. Let's go to Arizona visiting
00:24:24the Buffalo Bills. I'm so curious what you're going to say on this game.
00:24:28I'm very curious. I think this is a great time to catch Buffalo.
00:24:32I think Buffalo is going to struggle in the first half. Are you high in Arizona? Because nationally
00:24:36it seems like everybody's high in Arizona and I simply am confused.
00:24:40I don't think they have enough talent, but I think there are some intriguing parts.
00:24:44Obviously we're going to see the Kyler Murray to Marvin Harrison.
00:24:48Trey McBride's a terrific football player. Had a great year last year, but I just look at Buffalo
00:24:52and see a team that is much like last year.
00:24:56I think it's going to take a little while for them to figure out, especially defensively,
00:25:00what they are. Because we know what Sean wants them to be, Sean McDermott,
00:25:04but without Micah Hyde, without Jordan Poirier,
00:25:08without Matt Milano, with who knows what you're going to get from Von Miller.
00:25:12There are so many questions about that football team.
00:25:16DeMar Hamlin scheduled to start his first game since the night he collapsed on the football field
00:25:20in Cincinnati, which is a great story.
00:25:24DeMar Hamlin, not a great safety.
00:25:28There are weaknesses there. Taylor Rapp was a nice third safety. Now he's like their
00:25:32no-doubt top safety at the moment.
00:25:36I can see Kyler Murray going bananas in this game a little bit. I can see Marvin Harrison going bananas.
00:25:40I can see McBride causing all kinds of problems.
00:25:44What it's going to come down to, as it usually does with the Bills, is can Josh pull a rabbit
00:25:48out of his hat? I think this game is going to be closer than you expect.
00:25:52Like I said, I just think if you're going to catch in Buffalo, this is a good time to do it.
00:25:56I'm going to zag here.
00:26:00I think this is going to be one of those overreaction, like the Bills put up
00:26:0435 points and everyone's like, see, Stephon Diggs sucked.
00:26:08And Ken Dorsey sucks.
00:26:12Josh is no-doubt going to be MVP because Mahomes threw a pick.
00:26:16Lamar didn't win, so now it's Josh's door to lose.
00:26:20I just feel like everyone's thinking Arizona's going to make it close, which makes me feel like
00:26:24Buffalo's going to win 35-12 and we're going to be like,
00:26:28are the Bills the favorite in the AFC East? Is Arizona terrible?
00:26:32I don't know why I have this feeling. And again, I'm usually wrong, so don't
00:26:36trust me there. But again, I'd like to see
00:26:40Arizona defensively, what they're going to be. I think there's so much focus on offense.
00:26:44I think they'll be a fun, especially fantasy-wise, they'll be a fun team.
00:26:48NBA League pass kind of thing. What are they defensively? Obviously, defensive coordinator, head coach.
00:26:52They were spunky. They were fiery last year, early in the year.
00:26:56Dealing with Josh Allen week one is no joke. If they come out there
00:27:00and look really good and they upset Buffalo week one, which is very much a possibility,
00:27:04I'll be feeling a lot different about Arizona than I will if they go out there
00:27:08and get steamrolled and it's like, eh. I don't know.
00:27:12And I guess the only other question I just have is, can Josh Allen be patient?
00:27:16Last year he came out and was so ready and so amped up and so ready to go and then
00:27:20four turnovers cost him the game in New York.
00:27:24Can he just play within the offense? Can he play within
00:27:28himself for four quarters, lay a good foundation?
00:27:32How does he look without that star receiver? That'll be my question with the Bills.
00:27:36Yeah, that's a good one. He's got to be patient because it's going to take a little time to get
00:27:40chemistry with some of those guys, including Keon Coleman, who everybody's been raving about.
00:27:44We'll see what it looks like in the regular season. The Tennessee Titans at the
00:27:48Chicago Bears. The Bears are
00:27:52a lot of people have them as a sort of sliding into playoffs.
00:27:56I did not put them there. I just looked at this one and I wrote it down again.
00:28:00Arguably, and I'm referencing the Titans here, the weirdest
00:28:04roster construction of any team in the National Football League this year.
00:28:08Adding all these different pieces, adding some aging pieces,
00:28:12overpaying certain guys. Jamal Adams is on their team.
00:28:16Jamal Adams hasn't been good since what, 2019?
00:28:20Is that fair? No, 2020 he was good and then 2021 it fell apart.
00:28:24Look, they're not depending on him to do a ton,
00:28:28but I'm just saying, they've thrown all these pieces. They traded for Robert Jones just this past
00:28:32week, so now they're trying to integrate him into the system. It just feels like
00:28:36they lost complete patience there. It fell apart at the end of last
00:28:40year with Vrabel. They move on to Brian Callahan and now they're just throwing
00:28:44a bunch of crap at the wall and hoping that it sticks. When I look at it, I go,
00:28:48what is the plan? Because the roster, the way it's built,
00:28:52there are guys that aren't going to be ready to be what some of the guys are on the roster
00:28:56already. Then you have some guys like Hopkins, who was great last year, but
00:29:00injured and passed his prime. I have no
00:29:04idea what to expect from the Titans. When I did my first, for us, when we did our
00:29:08first preview, the first time I went through the schedule, I had them at 3-14.
00:29:12I was like, they're not a 3-14 team, but as I was going game
00:29:16to game to game, I'm like, they're coming off this game, this team's coming here, they're on the road.
00:29:20I have no idea what to expect. I think the Will Levis,
00:29:24I like some parts of Will Levis, but I think by and large last
00:29:28year wasn't very good. I don't know.
00:29:32We could be in week four or five and them talking about, oh crap, we need a quarterback
00:29:36and we're moving on to Mason Rudolph for the rest of the year.
00:29:40A couple things. The Titans, I think this is a must
00:29:44win for the Bears. Home opener. I think the cheapest ticket I saw in StubHub last
00:29:48night was $294 for nosebleed, upper level.
00:29:52Again, to be expected, but Caleb's a lot of pressure
00:29:56at home, hard knocks. I experienced that
00:30:00last year with the Jets. Very different situation, but a QB needy franchise
00:30:04has their savior. They invested a lot in the skill positions and flawed
00:30:08team, but we got this. Hard knocks and there's that bump.
00:30:12Tennessee, I don't think is very good. Another team that people are
00:30:16high on and maybe I'm off base, I don't feel
00:30:20good about them at all. I actually think they're more of a six-foot. Can't get there.
00:30:24Me and you will probably be wrong. Arizona and Tennessee will probably be the four and five seeds.
00:30:28Just for the Bears,
00:30:32keep Caleb in the sense that
00:30:36make sure he's good. I could take a six-yard hitcher
00:30:40out here and just take up a first down and try to keep
00:30:44let him play a little bit within himself and let the shackles off at some points, but
00:30:48try to keep him in check there. Belichick was pretty hard on Caleb last night,
00:30:52which is to be expected, but he did draft Matt Jones and think he was the savior.
00:30:56It is what it is.
00:31:00Tennessee-wise, you mentioned Levis. I'm just curious
00:31:04the discipline and how this team's coached. Brian Callahan
00:31:08had really interesting, I thought really awesome, comments around EPA per play
00:31:12around things like just plans on offense,
00:31:16plans on defense, things of that nature. Vrabel was really good with discipline. I felt like
00:31:20really good in when to go for it, when not to go for it, when to kick, when to push buttons
00:31:24the right way. I just think from a coaching perspective, I'm really high on Callahan.
00:31:28I think he's going to be awesome. We haven't seen it.
00:31:32Coaching from a Tennessee perspective and from Chicago, it's hard to just not
00:31:36say this is all about Caleb. I just truly feel like it is a must-win game because
00:31:40when you have so much optimism, you kind of got to grab it.
00:31:44They have the city by the balls a little bit. You got to grab it
00:31:48if you're the Bears. We'll see what happens on Sunday.
00:31:52Let's go to the New England Patriots, who
00:31:56most people think are the worst or the second worst team in the league at Cincinnati.
00:32:00A lot of weird stuff coming out of Cincinnati.
00:32:04T. Higgins tweaked the hamstring. Zach Taylor said we'll see
00:32:08about Sunday. Jamar Chase, we know the hold-in, hold-out thing going on.
00:32:12Also got a we'll see on that as well. Obviously, if those
00:32:16two guys are not playing or are limited,
00:32:20the odds went from
00:32:24the Beggles by 8.5 to 7.5.
00:32:28Probably will drop another point if that's the case. I would think so, but for me,
00:32:32when you get past that, looking at the Patriots and just saying
00:32:36it's going to be a tough game.
00:32:40It's going to be a tough game.
00:32:44It's going to be a tough game.
00:32:48It's going to be a tough game.
00:32:52It's going to be a tough game.
00:32:56It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:00It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:04It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:08It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:12It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:16It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:20It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:24It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:28It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:32It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:36It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:40It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:44It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:48It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:52It's going to be a tough game.
00:33:56It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:00It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:04It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:08It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:12It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:16It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:20It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:24It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:28It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:32So, it's going to be a tough game.
00:34:36It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:40It's going to be a tough game.
00:34:44It might be Shawn Mann,
00:34:48it might begger pit magic,
00:34:52it may be Brian Callahan.
00:34:56really awesome, probably going to pound the football,
00:34:58a lot of play action, quick game, like probably,
00:35:01but I don't know.
00:35:02So I guess from my perspective,
00:35:04I think the number one thing coming out of this is Joe Burrow.
00:35:06How healthy is he?
00:35:07More than anything.
00:35:08And number two, like for the Patriots perspective,
00:35:11what kind of coach team are you going to be?
00:35:12It's only one a week, but on the road, big tests,
00:35:15big time underdogs.
00:35:18I don't know.
00:35:18They go out there and shock the Bengals and win 17-14.
00:35:21And like, you're like, ooh,
00:35:23are they maybe a spunky six-win team
00:35:25as opposed to a two-win team?
00:35:27Like, that'll be just really interesting.
00:35:28And then if they do win or keep it really close,
00:35:32does it make you feel more comfortable
00:35:33to play Drake May earlier than later?
00:35:35I'm also curious, how's the rest of the roster?
00:35:37Like, I hate to be like this.
00:35:39I could not care less about how Jacobi Brissett looks.
00:35:42I care about how the rest of the Patriots look,
00:35:43because again, that's going to impact
00:35:45potential decision-making when it comes time
00:35:47for their franchise quarterback in Drake May.
00:35:51Yeah, I wrote about this
00:35:52for Boston Sports Journal this week,
00:35:54the notion about the coaching staff.
00:35:55And I said, how the hell am I supposed to know
00:35:57what they are?
00:35:58We have no evidence.
00:35:59Gerard Mayo was a position coach who, yes,
00:36:01helped run the defensive meetings last couple of years,
00:36:04but like, we don't know what sort of,
00:36:06I mean, talks about wanting to be physical, tough,
00:36:09running the football-type team.
00:36:10But okay, now can you go out and execute it?
00:36:13Do you have the discipline with your players?
00:36:15And then Alex Van Pelt, who hasn't called play since 2009.
00:36:18He's an excellent teacher of quarterbacks.
00:36:20Anybody I've talked to, and I've talked to a million,
00:36:22praise him for that.
00:36:23But calling plays is a totally different ball game.
00:36:26And, you know, we'll see how that goes.
00:36:30Look, we love, games everywhere, right?
00:36:33Like, if I could, if I had a private jet,
00:36:36I'd be flying to Texas, Michigan, right?
00:36:38That'd be a phenomenal game,
00:36:40like a big 10, big 12, whatever they call it now.
00:36:44I don't even know.
00:36:45And if you want to get great tickets,

00:37:33Texans-Indianapolis.
00:37:35Intriguing game, I got to say,
00:37:37but I'm interested because we didn't get
00:37:40a ton of Anthony Richardson last year.
00:37:42There's a lot of hype around him
00:37:44and what that's going to look like.
00:37:46I want to flip it, though,
00:37:47and the thing that sticks out to me about this game
00:37:49is can the Texans' offensive line,
00:37:51which is probably the weakest part
00:37:53of their entire team last year,
00:37:55can they hold up against an Indy pass rush
00:37:57that's been damn good,
00:37:59even though Gus Bradley is a do-it-with-this-is-what-we-do
00:38:01defense, they've gotten good pass rush.
00:38:04You're talking about DeForest Buckner, Quidi Pei,
00:38:06and now your guy, Latu,
00:38:08who I believe you picked as Defensive Rookie of the Year.
00:38:10And look, if he stays healthy,
00:38:12he's a terrific pass rusher by far and away,
00:38:14the most polished guy as a pass rusher
00:38:16coming out in the draft, him and Austin Booker.
00:38:18But can that line hold up?
00:38:20Because CJ is great, the weapons are great,
00:38:21like, there's no question, we can't deny that.
00:38:24CJ's coming off a 4,100-yard,
00:38:2623-touchdown, five-pick season.
00:38:29But this team will get after you a little bit,
00:38:31and I'm curious, beyond Laramie Tunsell,
00:38:34if that line has gotten any better,
00:38:36if they're any more cohesive than they were last year,
00:38:38because if they're not, I don't know,
00:38:40Indianapolis at home,
00:38:42no stretch to think that Indianapolis could win the game.
00:38:45Yeah, a couple things you mentioned there.
00:38:47In terms of Richardson and a bunch of different things there,
00:38:51I'm curious on what the identity of the Colts
00:38:52is going to look like.
00:38:54Schematically, last year, obviously,
00:38:55Minshew, when they had Richardson in there,
00:38:57Jonathan Taylor looks to be back to Jonathan Taylor,
00:39:00Steichen, who I predict the Coach of the Year.
00:39:03Obviously, we saw what it was like in Philly,
00:39:05you know, Miles Sanders putting off 12,
00:39:061,300 yards, 10 touchdowns, you know what I mean?
00:39:08Like, this offensive line looks really special again.
00:39:11They've got more weapons, A.D. Mitchell, et cetera.
00:39:13Just how are they going to utilize
00:39:14and how are they going to scheme up this offense?
00:39:16I assume against this scheme in Houston,
00:39:18which we've seen the Jets in San Francisco, Seattle,
00:39:21they're going to try to pound the rock 35 times
00:39:23and use Richardson's legs, get him out in space,
00:39:25and try to have Jonathan Taylor
00:39:27just over and over and over again.
00:39:30So, I'm curious from that perspective.
00:39:31And then Houston side,
00:39:35I'm just curious how they're going to deploy Derek Stingley.
00:39:38I think he's a guy who, outside of sauce,
00:39:40Gardner is the next corner to get that big, big money.
00:39:43That's a younger player, obviously.
00:39:45We'll talk about Jalen Ramsey,
00:39:46I'm pretty sure, next, or in two games here.
00:39:50How are they going to play Derek Stingley?
00:39:51Like, do they just go,
00:39:52hey, you're going to take my pit the entire game?
00:39:55We saw him in college in man.
00:39:56Like, Derek Stingley is nasty,
00:39:58but this scheme's not really man-heavy.
00:40:00So, are they going to just sit back in three and quarters
00:40:02and just say, hey, like, we trust you?
00:40:05Like, do they let him on A.D. Mitchell?
00:40:06I just, schematically, on both sides of the football,
00:40:08two teams that we know know each other,
00:40:10there's that revenge factor last year.
00:40:11I think the Colts fans, players, people in that building,
00:40:15still pissed about the way that game ended
00:40:17and felt like that was right there for the taking.
00:40:19So, schematically, I think this is a really stiking D'Amico.
00:40:23This is a pretty damn good game.
00:40:25Yeah, I'm excited for this one, for sure.
00:40:27You mentioned Jalen Ramsey.
00:40:29The Jaguars play at Miami.
00:40:31Suspected to be grotesquely hot there,
00:40:35but that's what you expect this time of the year.
00:40:37Before we get into the game,
00:40:39Jalen Ramsey gets a, it's a large extension, man.
00:40:43So, I don't, and I'm gonna just say, like, I don't,
00:40:46he's not the player he was with the Rams.
00:40:50He's not the same guy.
00:40:51Now, that's not to say that he's not still really good,
00:40:54but they continue to just throw money around left and right.
00:40:57The big contract extensions were Tua, Tyreek, Jalen.
00:41:02McDaniel got his contract.
00:41:04Like, they just, they think they're the greatest things
00:41:07since sliced bread.
00:41:08Yeah, I get Jalen Ramsey.
00:41:11I would've loved to see them just give him a raise this year
00:41:15or some kind of way to give him a raise this year.
00:41:17Maybe keep it a shorter deal.
00:41:19I think it's 55 million guaranteed,
00:41:21which, again, we'll see what kind of,
00:41:23he was already making, I think, 20-something this year.
00:41:25Like, now he's at 24.1,
00:41:27so obviously he's the highest paid corner NFL history.
00:41:30You know, for now, again,
00:41:31Stingley and Sauce will break that next year.
00:41:34We saw Sertain get extended.
00:41:36I just, Jalen's 30, if I'm not mistaken.
00:41:40I know he could maybe go into that Charles Woodson role
00:41:42of playing some safety again, you know, as time goes on,
00:41:45but then you're paying a safety $24 million,
00:41:47and that's not a good business.
00:41:48You know, that's not probably the best business decision.
00:41:51I just feel like they went through this
00:41:52with Xavier and Howard two years ago,
00:41:54and they're paying for it now.
00:41:56And Jason Fitzgerald, you know, over the cap,
00:41:58who's the best cap guy in the league,
00:42:00was just like, how did they not learn from their mistake
00:42:03with Xavier and Howard?
00:42:04And again, it's nothing to do with Ramsey.
00:42:05Like, I think he's still a really good player,
00:42:06but he seems to be getting hurt a lot more than he used to.
00:42:10And I just don't know that paying a 30-year-old corner,
00:42:14the Jets did this with Revis.
00:42:16They did it with Tremaine Johnson.
00:42:18We've seen the Dolphins do it with Xavier and Howard.
00:42:21We saw the Eagles do it with Nnamdi Asamoah.
00:42:22Like, unfortunately, third contracts are never,
00:42:26it's really a fourth contract, but, you know,
00:42:28third contracts just don't always go great.
00:42:31And to make them the highest paid
00:42:32and to give it to be a three-year deal,
00:42:33again, I have to see how the money's spread out,
00:42:35but it feels like a bit of a reach.
00:42:38And in terms of the game,
00:42:41Miami always gets off the hot starts.
00:42:44Hot weather, super fast team.
00:42:46Defensively, what are they going to look like?
00:42:48Again, new coordinator, new personnel.
00:42:54Just curious to see what that unit looks like.
00:42:56I know they're going to score points.
00:42:57We know they're going to score points.
00:42:58What's that unit going to look like?
00:42:59And then for Jacksonville, keeping it short and sweet here,
00:43:02like, who are they?
00:43:03Because again, John Jastrzemski made this point.
00:43:09I was listening to some of the stuff
00:43:10he was doing this morning and he's like,
00:43:10they go 12 and five or five and 12,
00:43:12but I'd be shocked either way.
00:43:13And I was like, I'm going to take your point here.
00:43:15So I want to give John some credit here.
00:43:18I just don't know what they are.
00:43:19I, again, seeing that almost beat Kansas City,
00:43:22even with a limp, you know,
00:43:23limp to my home from the division around 12 months ago
00:43:25or 18 months.
00:43:27And then last year, like, choked the division away.
00:43:30So who are they?
00:43:32So I guess, who are they?
00:43:33And then same thing with Miami's defense.
00:43:35Like, we know what the offense is going to be.
00:43:37It's the one staple we know.
00:43:38Other than that in this game,
00:43:39I don't really know who Jacksonville
00:43:41or that Miami defense really is.
00:43:43Yeah, I'm curious.
00:43:44Ryan Nielsen comes over.
00:43:45It's his first year with Jacksonville
00:43:47as a defense coordinator.
00:43:47Comes over from Atlanta.
00:43:50Atlanta was a heavy man, press man team.
00:43:5441.7% of the time they were in man last year.
00:43:57That was the third highest of any team.
00:43:59That's what he was,
00:44:00that's what he's bringing to Jacksonville.
00:44:02Can you live in man, press man against Jalen Waddell,
00:44:05Tyreek Hill,
00:44:08some of the other pieces that they've added there.
00:44:10Cause again, it's all about speed.
00:44:11They pick a couple of guys in the draft,
00:44:14Malik Washington,
00:44:15that just bring crazy speed and playmaking ability.
00:44:18And he has Tyson Campbell.
00:44:19So there's one corner you trust.
00:44:21You know who the opposite corner is?
00:44:23Ronald Darby.
00:44:25You want to play man, press man
00:44:27with Ronald Darby against Jalen Waddell?
00:44:29I wouldn't want to do it.
00:44:29Darnell Savage is going to be the guy
00:44:31who's your nickel corner.
00:44:32Same thing, like, I don't know.
00:44:35You get matchups there,
00:44:36you manipulate Hill into the slot
00:44:38or Waddell into the slot
00:44:39and Savage is across him.
00:44:40Like that's where the ball's going.
00:44:42So I would suggest if I was Ryan Nielsen,
00:44:46I'd come up with a new plan.
00:44:47Even though this is how I want to play,
00:44:49maybe today is not the day that we want to play that way.
00:44:52Let's go Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.
00:44:56Excuse me, not Cards.
00:44:58Who is it?
00:44:59Wait a minute.
00:45:00What did I do here?
00:45:01Literally, who are the Saints playing?
00:45:04Carolina.
00:45:04Carolina, Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
00:45:07Sorry about that, people.
00:45:08I can't read my own writing.
00:45:10For this one, it stands out to me is,
00:45:13can Dave Canales, the new head coach,
00:45:14the offensive coordinator in Tampa,
00:45:16did a great job in Seattle as well with Geno Smith.
00:45:19Can he fix Bryce Young?
00:45:20You know, we know they invested
00:45:21in the interior offensive line,
00:45:23but they averaged 13.9 points per game last year
00:45:26that was tied with the Patriots
00:45:27for worst in the league.
00:45:29Bryce Young completed less than 60% of his passes.
00:45:32It can get real ugly, real fast in Carolina
00:45:35because people are just hanging on anyway.
00:45:37That team hasn't been good for a while.
00:45:39The owner's nuts.
00:45:42There's a lot.
00:45:43And look, I like Bryce Young coming out,
00:45:46but he never has that one thing,
00:45:48that one thing that separated him as a quarterback.
00:45:51He's a good athlete, but he's not a great athlete.
00:45:54He has a solid arm, but he doesn't have a great arm.
00:45:56And obviously he has the height limitations.
00:45:58So I'm just curious.
00:45:59I think New Orleans wins this game,
00:46:02but I'm just curious,
00:46:03do we get a more improved passable version of Bryce Young?
00:46:07Yeah, I think people are really down on New Orleans
00:46:10and I am too.
00:46:11I just think that this defense was able to carry them
00:46:14in this game and it's going to be ugly.
00:46:15It's not going to be fun.
00:46:16It's going to be a game.
00:46:17It's like a, the words,
00:46:19Bill Simmons, a poopfecta game.
00:46:20It's like, this isn't great,
00:46:22but I think it's important.
00:46:23New Orleans gets off on a hot start here at home.
00:46:26I think everyone's down on them,
00:46:27like their car and I'm sure their own fans are like,
00:46:30their car and Dennis Allen need a win.
00:46:32Again, it's probably one of the easier games
00:46:34in their schedule.
00:46:35And in Carolina, they get that new coach bump.
00:46:37Does Bryce look a little rejuvenated?
00:46:39You know, do they look a little spunky game one?
00:46:41They want to steal some games.
00:46:43This is again, one you could steal.
00:46:44So I think on both sides of the ball,
00:46:46like this New Orleans defense is the best unit of the four,
00:46:50but outside of that,
00:46:50like you don't really feel great about anything else.
00:46:53And also the only last thing here,
00:46:54and again, we'll keep it short here,
00:46:55but Alvin Kamara, like is, what is he now?
00:47:01It's been a little while
00:47:02since I feel like we've seen prime Kamara.
00:47:04And it's not even like he just hasn't like played a lot.
00:47:06I feel like he hasn't played a lot.
00:47:07They haven't used them correctly.
00:47:08He had the legal stuff.
00:47:10Just what kind of guy,
00:47:11who are we going to see this year in 2024?
00:47:14Vikings are giants.
00:47:16And there's a story in the athletic by Dan Duggan,
00:47:20who does a great job.
00:47:21Dan wrote about Brian Dable,
00:47:23who was going to call the plays this year.
00:47:25Now they kind of, he'd taken over the duties at points
00:47:28last season, apparently,
00:47:29according to various reports from Mike Kafka,
00:47:30but kept giving it back to Kafka.
00:47:33But after a six and 11 season
00:47:34in which the Giants were at the bottom of the league
00:47:36in most offensive categories,
00:47:38and look, it didn't help that Daniel Jones was hurt twice,
00:47:40including the season ender,
00:47:42but he wasn't playing well even prior to that.
00:47:45But it makes sense because there's some heat now on Dable,
00:47:48just one year removed from being coach of the year.
00:47:50Like this can't go that way again,
00:47:53because if it does,
00:47:55he might be the next in line of the Giants coaches
00:47:57who don't get a lot of time to get the job done there
00:48:00and get blown out.
00:48:01So I understand what he's doing here.
00:48:03I think he'll make Daniel Jones better.
00:48:05I think Brian's in his sweet spot when he's calling plays.
00:48:08I think one of the things that Dan wrote about was,
00:48:12you know, talking to different players
00:48:13that have played for him over time,
00:48:15that, you know, his play sheet,
00:48:17he has like a design for guys.
00:48:21Like there's parts of it, it's like,
00:48:22well, if Malik gets hot, Malik neighbors,
00:48:24who obviously I think we think
00:48:25is gonna have a fantastic year,
00:48:27assuming Daniel Jones can get on the ball.
00:48:28But it's like, if Malik's got hot, gets hot,
00:48:30I have these lists of 15 plays that I can call
00:48:34where I think the ball's supposed to go to him.
00:48:36And like, a lot of guys will tell you like,
00:48:39for coaches, Matt Barkley was talking about it,
00:48:41like they'd never seen that before.
00:48:43Like a coach, like literally putting this little column
00:48:46in here, like, I wanna feed this ball to this guy.
00:48:49This is how I'm gonna do it.
00:48:50So, look, the Giants, last time they played the Vikings
00:48:53was a postseason game.
00:48:54They beat the Vikings in there,
00:48:56but that was pre-Brian Flores.
00:48:58That was when the Giants were riding high.
00:49:00Just, you know, Jones was playing well
00:49:02in his first year under our table.
00:49:03So I'm just curious to see what that looks like,
00:49:05because again, last year was a disaster for the Giants.
00:49:08Yeah, I think two questions,
00:49:09the two things I'm looking for,
00:49:11Sam Darnold and Jetson Jefferson.
00:49:13Jefferson's talked up Sam a lot.
00:49:14We've seen a lot of good stuff out of Sam this preseason.
00:49:17Some, you know, it's kind of what we see with Sam.
00:49:19So, Jetson Jefferson,
00:49:21I picked him our Offensive Player of the Year,
00:49:23and I'm curious, and the Giants secondary
00:49:24is their biggest issue.
00:49:27I don't know, is he gonna get 25 targets?
00:49:29I'm not, you know, it sounds like I'm being,
00:49:31like I'm dead serious.
00:49:32Is he getting 20 targets on Sunday?
00:49:33And that's probably the way they win.
00:49:35And then from a Giants perspective,
00:49:37I know the question marks are around Daniel Jones,
00:49:40and rightfully so.
00:49:41You mentioned a little bit,
00:49:42what's Brian Flores do with Malik neighbors?
00:49:44Because outside of neighbors, no one else on that offense,
00:49:48I don't feel like puts that fear in you.
00:49:50And neighbors are rookie, it's his first game.
00:49:53He's talked, you know, him and Isaiah Simmons,
00:49:55you know, his goals this year are less than three drops,
00:49:571500 yards, 10 touchdowns, all pro, the whole thing.
00:50:00And that's great, and I get it.
00:50:03Does Flores run, run cover one?
00:50:06Does he, you know, do a lot of the blitzing
00:50:08as you sit in zone and have Gilmore just,
00:50:11just be in his stuff all game and just physical with him
00:50:15and have a guy over the top?
00:50:16Like I just, again, that's a nerd out here schematically.
00:50:19I'm just curious what they do with neighbors.
00:50:20And then on the opposite side, Justin Jefferson.
00:50:24O'Connell's great, Jefferson's healthy.
00:50:26Darnold's loves to lock on to one guy.
00:50:29That guy will be Justin Jefferson.
00:50:32Yeah, I think I read a stat where
00:50:33since O'Connell's taken over,
00:50:34they average 38 passes a game.
00:50:38Will he throw the ball 38 or more times with Sam Darnold?
00:50:40That'll be, that'll be an interesting one to look at.
00:50:43How about our Raiders Chargers?
00:50:46Chargers is another team that a lot of people,
00:50:47because of the Jim Harbaugh factor
00:50:49and the three or four win bump that he gives
00:50:52pretty much any team that he's ever taken over from college
00:50:54all the way through the pros back to college with Michigan.
00:50:58We talked about this in our preview though,
00:51:00about their offensive line.
00:51:01They add Alt, you have Slater on the other side.
00:51:05This is a group, they want to be bullies.
00:51:09Well, the Raiders have a terrific defensive front.
00:51:11They have two of the best defensive players, quite frankly,
00:51:14and Christian Wilkins on the inside,
00:51:16Max Crosby on the outside.
00:51:18Can this offensive line neutralize those guys?
00:51:21Because if they do, the Raiders,
00:51:23who I think are in for a long season,
00:51:25are going to have a long one in the opener against LA.
00:51:28Yeah, my two things here, pass rush from the Chargers.
00:51:32I mean, pass rush from the Raiders
00:51:34and the offensive line from the Chargers.
00:51:35You mentioned it there.
00:51:37Chargers are going to want to run the rock a million times.
00:51:39They want to be physical.
00:51:40They're going to want to beat you up in the trenches.
00:51:43We love what they've done in the offseason
00:51:45in terms of addressing that offensive line,
00:51:47in addition to what they had there previously,
00:51:49mentality from Harbaugh.
00:51:51Christian Wilkins, Max Crosby, it's a pretty damn good duo.
00:51:56And not to mention,
00:51:58they've got a bunch of other guys out there as well.
00:51:59So can they get after Herbert a little bit,
00:52:02coming off the foot, put them in third and longs,
00:52:06second and longs, third and mediums,
00:52:08where you can't just run the rock on third and fourth.
00:52:11That'll be the interesting one there.
00:52:13So again, that and the revenge factor,
00:52:14not only the Harbaugh point,
00:52:16but no one in the city respects you.
00:52:18And this is a Raiders town still,
00:52:20and they've ran the score up on Easton stick,
00:52:2263 to seven, whatever that was last year.
00:52:25Sure, Harbaugh's harped on that quite a few times.
00:52:27So that's what I'm watching for there.
00:52:29Unquestionably, Denver at Seattle.
00:52:32Did you know, in the last five seasons,
00:52:34rookie quarterbacks, starting in their first game,
00:52:37are 0-7-1?
00:52:40That leads me to Bo Nix, who was named the starter,
00:52:43and is the captain for the Denver Broncos
00:52:45in his rookie season.
00:52:46And look, you and I saw him at the Senior Bowl.
00:52:48I like Bo Nix.
00:52:49I don't love Bo Nix,
00:52:51but Bo Nix had a really nice preseason.
00:52:5323 of 30, led him to three touchdowns,
00:52:56three field goals, and they had one fumble
00:52:58in his seven drives during the postseason.
00:52:59That's pretty damn productive.
00:53:01Two touchdown passes.
00:53:04Seattle, Mike McDonald on the other side.
00:53:07We know his reputation.
00:53:08He's a defensive guru.
00:53:10The first four games of Nix's career, by the way,
00:53:14McDonald, Mike Tomlin,
00:53:17let's see, Mike Tomlin, Todd Bowles,
00:53:21and he's, oh, and Robert Sala.
00:53:22Those are his first four games.
00:53:23So welcome to the league, kid.
00:53:24You're playing four of the better defensive coaches
00:53:26in the National Football League.
00:53:28What's it look like?
00:53:29And it's also in Seattle.
00:53:30Those people are gonna be nuts.
00:53:31It's a new coach.
00:53:32It's a new era.
00:53:33Can Bo Nix and Sean Payton,
00:53:36can they handle what they're about to see?
00:53:38Because it's gonna be different
00:53:39than anything he saw in college,
00:53:41and it's gonna certainly be different
00:53:42than anything he saw in the preseason.
00:53:43Yeah, I think Bo Nix is obviously the easy one there.
00:53:44I'm curious about Javante Williams.
00:53:46What's he look like a year now?
00:53:48It's almost 24 months removed
00:53:50from the major reconstructive knee surgery.
00:53:52They're gonna need him.
00:53:53They throw the ball to running backs
00:53:54more than any team in the league under Sean Payton.
00:53:57What's Javante Williams gonna look like?
00:53:59And then Seattle, you mentioned the defense.
00:54:02What's Geno gonna look like this year?
00:54:03I think we've led the league
00:54:05in completion percentage two years ago.
00:54:07They were a really fun story, went nine and eight.
00:54:10Then last year, eight and nine,
00:54:11Geno gets banged up a little bit
00:54:12at the Drew Lock game against Philly,
00:54:14and there's not as much lore around Geno.
00:54:18Get off to a quick start, I think,
00:54:19under McDonald, and they're a serious playoff contender,
00:54:21as you mentioned, during our NFC West preview.
00:54:25I'm not quite as high in Denver,
00:54:27and I remember this was the Nate Hackett-Russell Wilson
00:54:30debut game a couple years ago.
00:54:34Again, Sean Payton, a lot of years removed now
00:54:37from those prime breeze years,
00:54:38even 2020, the 2020 year with Payton.
00:54:41So, a lot of question marks in both places.
00:54:44I think both teams kinda need to get a nice start here.
00:54:47Yeah, no question.
00:54:47Cowboys at Cleveland, Tom Brady's debut.
00:54:51Let me start on this one.
00:54:52I'm curious, because I don't wanna,
00:54:54I just, I only have two things on this game.
00:54:56Yeah, do it, do it.
00:54:58Browns home versus road.
00:55:00At home, that defense has been special.
00:55:02On the road, they're not very good.
00:55:04And Dallas has looked like,
00:55:09it seemed like an utter dumpster fire all offseason.
00:55:13Everyone's kinda leaning on the Browns,
00:55:15like, oh, this is a perfect spot, and it might be.
00:55:18I also just feel like we're gonna see a Dallas team
00:55:21where we're like, oh yeah, they've won 36 games
00:55:23or 39 games in the last three regular seasons.
00:55:26And the only other point, and I'll quickly turn it over
00:55:28to you, because I know we were trying
00:55:30to keep these games quick, and all of a sudden,
00:55:31we're almost at an hour already.
00:55:33Um, Deshaun Watson makes it through four quarters.
00:55:37Like, no, it's cause he, he gets hurt all the time.
00:55:4212 games since he got there.
00:55:43It's, you know, part of that was the suspension,
00:55:45but part of it's been injuries.
00:55:47What I was gonna say is, and as a road game too,
00:55:51starting a rookie left tackle in Guyton.
00:55:54Cooper Beebe is gonna start at center for the Cowboys.
00:55:57I seem to recall last year at various points,
00:56:00Jim Schwartz moving around, Miles Garrett.
00:56:02We know the crossover dribble thing he did.
00:56:05He was coming through the interior.
00:56:07Like, don't tell me that Zedarius Smith
00:56:09and Miles Garrett aren't gonna be moving around.
00:56:11And that Jim Schwartz is going to be isolating
00:56:14those two kids and saying, can you hold up to crowd noise?
00:56:18And, I mean, Miles is, you know,
00:56:20one of the best players in football.
00:56:22Can they hold up?
00:56:23I think it's a, it's a hell of a challenge.
00:56:25It's a hell of a first week for those two guys,
00:56:28because Schwartz will bring a whole bunch of crap
00:56:32in their general direction.
00:56:33Commanders at the Bucs.
00:56:37So here's what I'll say about this one.
00:56:40Baker's been good in three of his seven seasons
00:56:43in the league.
00:56:442018 his rookie year, 2020, and then last season.
00:56:49Oh, he's been due for a little regression.
00:56:51Is he due for a regression, or did he finally find a home?
00:56:56Now, granted they have an offensive coordinator change,
00:56:58so there's a little bit there
00:56:59that he's gonna have to work through,
00:57:01but he's worked with Liam Cohen before.
00:57:03But I'm just like,
00:57:04because if Baker is what he was last year,
00:57:06then the notion that for me that Atlanta is just like,
00:57:10was the easiest pick to make of any of the division winners,
00:57:12even though, again, I don't think Atlanta's good,
00:57:15that would change it.
00:57:16Because if Baker is Baker last year,
00:57:18then Tampa Bay will be right there all season.
00:57:23Yeah, Jaden Daniels obviously is, right?
00:57:25I think it's the number one story line.
00:57:27From Washington perspective,
00:57:28I picked him for rookie there,
00:57:29because I think he's gonna put up,
00:57:31he's gonna get to throw the rock,
00:57:33and that's how that's gonna work.
00:57:36I'm not really overly curious
00:57:38about the additions they made veteran-wise,
00:57:39just because I think I mentioned this in the NFC spot,
00:57:41I think a lot of those guys are,
00:57:43we gotta sign somebody,
00:57:44and we gotta build some type of culture here,
00:57:45and we know they're not the same player.
00:57:48From a Tampa's perspective,
00:57:52again, just, I guess, kind of, what are they?
00:57:54Because I feel like a year ago,
00:57:55it was kind of like,
00:57:56eh, like kind of moseying along a little bit,
00:57:59and they got hot,
00:58:00and then the Eagles blew their doors off,
00:58:01and they were like, ah, they're not very good.
00:58:04And then they got hot at the end of the year,
00:58:05they demolished Philly,
00:58:07and then they could have beat Detroit,
00:58:08even though I feel like,
00:58:09I know I said that,
00:58:10I knew Detroit would win that game,
00:58:11it just.
00:58:12They hung with them.
00:58:13They hung with them,
00:58:14so are you the team that like,
00:58:16is more of a seven-win team,
00:58:17anything can happen on any given Sunday,
00:58:19or are you like,
00:58:20no, you're legit,
00:58:21we're a good team last year,
00:58:23Jason Letts transformed that
00:58:24from the oldest roster in the league that won a title,
00:58:26they have the youngest roster in the league now,
00:58:30yeah, this is a like,
00:58:32the Bucs should win this game.
00:58:33I think if you're the Bucs,
00:58:35and you lose to a rookie quarterback at home,
00:58:37coming down to 90 degree heat
00:58:39with a first-time head coach,
00:58:40you'd feel pretty crappy about your chances
00:58:43going, you know, weeks two through four.
00:58:46Could be a sneaky fun game,
00:58:47just.
00:58:48Sneaky, oh, I think it's gonna be very fun.
00:58:49Yeah.
00:58:50And then probably the game over the weekend,
00:58:53we have the Rams at the lines,
00:58:55it's Sunday Night Football.
00:58:57You are incredibly, incredibly high on the Rams.
00:59:00Way too high on the Rams.
00:59:01No, look, I respect it,
00:59:05you made some good points there.
00:59:07I guess to me,
00:59:09Ken, and we talked about this
00:59:11during our playoff picks and preview as well,
00:59:14can the Lions defense be what Aaron Glenn wants it to be?
00:59:18He wants to play man,
00:59:19he wants to get in people's faces,
00:59:20he wants to be aggressive.
00:59:21He didn't have the personnel secondary-wise
00:59:24to do that largely last year,
00:59:26and yet they still came within a whisker
00:59:28of going to the Super Bowl.
00:59:29They had Carlton Davis,
00:59:30they draft Terry and Arnold,
00:59:32they draft Enes Reykstra,
00:59:34who might not be as much of a factor early
00:59:36as he may be later or even next year,
00:59:38but clearly giving him the personnel pieces that he wants.
00:59:42And look, you're gonna face a guy in McVay
00:59:45who he'll attack you in a bunch of different ways.
00:59:48He'll manipulate personnel.
00:59:50You know, there's talk about them
00:59:52playing more two tight ends this year.
00:59:55So he'll challenge them from that regard,
00:59:57but I'm just, I know how Aaron wants to play,
01:00:00and I'm curious if they feel like the picks that they made,
01:00:03the acquisitions that they made,
01:00:04allow him to do that,
01:00:05because this is a great game to sort of see it
01:00:07with Cooper Cup and Puka Nakua on the other side,
01:00:10like, okay, let's see, let's see what you got.
01:00:13Yeah, there's been comments a lot all off season,
01:00:16not just from the Rams,
01:00:18there's a lot have been, you know,
01:00:18the Lions play Kirby Joseph's dirty,
01:00:21and, you know, the Lions play a little dirty there.
01:00:23Talked about there's a lot of expectations,
01:00:26and there's a lot of like,
01:00:27went from the fun team to, you know, it always flips.
01:00:29You go from the fun team, the underdog,
01:00:31and you almost get there,
01:00:32and then, you know, you start to become the team
01:00:33that everyone's like kind of rooting against.
01:00:35How are they gonna handle that pressure?
01:00:36And the Rams, obviously, revenge from last year.
01:00:38I think that was the best game,
01:00:39probably the season last year.
01:00:40That wildcard game was fantastic.
01:00:41The energy in that building was special.
01:00:45My bold take was Matt Saverman's MVP and retires,
01:00:47and the Rams go to the title game.
01:00:49So I kind of need the Rams to get out to a hot start here.
01:00:52But I think all eyes are on, you know, Fisk,
01:00:54Verse, and that young Rams defense,
01:00:56extremely young defense.
01:00:57There's a lot of talent there,
01:00:59but a lot of, you know, a lot of guys they've developed,
01:01:01and Young, and all these different, you know,
01:01:03these different pieces.
01:01:04So we'll see.
01:01:06I just, I expect this game to be absolutely special.
01:01:09And one of those games where you go,
01:01:12football is goddamn back.
01:01:14Yes, I'm ecstatic.
01:01:17I'm all fired up about it.
01:01:18Hey, I teased it earlier, prize picks, you know,
01:01:21you gotta get involved, download the app.
01:01:23There's free money involved.
01:01:24If I check my paper here
01:01:27that I should have committed to my brain by now,
01:01:30just download the prize pick app today.
01:01:32Use code CLMS and get $50 instantly when you pay $5.
01:01:36So I dabble, I do it.
01:01:39And I got two picks for you.
01:01:41And first of all, just as a reminder,
01:01:43Caleb Williams gets one passing yard in the game.
01:01:45If you're using him in some of your combinations
01:01:47of anywhere between two to six players,
01:01:50that's a win because they're giving you that
01:01:52all of September.
01:01:53So just throw him in your selections.
01:01:56That's a layup.
01:01:58I have Kyler Murray over 230 yards passing,
01:02:02230.5 against the Buffalo Bills.
01:02:05And for some reason I did not write down
01:02:07CD Lamb's yardage total.
01:02:08I wanna say it was like 71 or something like that,
01:02:11which seems absurdly low to me.
01:02:12I'm taking the over on CD Lamb.
01:02:15Those are my picks.
01:02:17I feel pretty good about it.
01:02:17I feel like I'm gonna win some money.
01:02:19Of course, you should feel like
01:02:20you're gonna win some money.
01:02:21I kind of referenced a few of them during the show.
01:02:26I would look at pretty much any Derek Carr under.
01:02:30I think this is gonna be a sloppy, ugly game
01:02:32and it's gonna be an NFC South.
01:02:35One, Jadon Daniels overs.
01:02:37Todd Bull's gonna blitz him,
01:02:38whether it's Jadon Daniels interceptions,
01:02:40Jadon Daniels yardage completions,
01:02:43attempts, whatever you can bet on for Jadon Daniels.
01:02:45Take the over because I think this is gonna be
01:02:47one of those years where they're just like,
01:02:49go do it, kid.
01:02:50Ups, downs, Barry Peyton Manning rookie year,
01:02:5428 touchdowns, 28 picks, 5,000 yards.
01:02:57I just, I truly feel like they're gonna be like,
01:03:01what do you got?
01:03:02And then all of a sudden, it's gonna start to
01:03:04kind of come to shape a little bit more.
01:03:05Last year with Sam Howell, they did that
01:03:06and you just kind of picture,
01:03:08I know a different coordinator, a different team,
01:03:09but I think they wanted to say,
01:03:12hey, show us what you got, buddy.
01:03:14Yeah, they're gonna tell all their fan base there
01:03:17at DC and surrounding areas, like, we got the guy.
01:03:20It's not gonna be perfect,
01:03:21but he's gonna make five plays a game
01:03:23that you go, ooh, ah, you know,
01:03:25and he's probably gonna make five
01:03:26that you want to beat your head
01:03:28against a play class window,
01:03:29but that's an excellent call.
01:03:31So again, CLNS is the code there for prize picks.
01:03:35Get involved.
01:03:36Will, a pleasure.
01:03:37We will talk again on Monday.
01:03:39We will recap the weekend's games
01:03:41and preview the 49ers and the Jets.
01:03:45You can barely contain your enthusiasm for that.
01:03:49Thank you for watching and listening,
01:03:51however you get it, your podcast.
01:03:53As always, a reminder to like, leave a review,
01:03:56subscribe, tell your friends.
01:03:58It certainly helps us build the brand here
01:04:00of the All 32 Pod.
01:04:02I think we're about 10, 12 episodes deep here,
01:04:04but we're just getting warmed up for you.
01:04:06So we appreciate you playing along.
01:04:08He's caught!
01:04:10Touchdown!
01:04:11The New England Patriots select Drake May.
01:04:15He's got the ball!
01:04:17And that's the ball game!
