Description:
This song was sung in Iwaizumi (Shimohei District), and Kamihei District. In the Tōhoku region, there are various types of umakatabushi ("uma" means horse). Some, like this one, are sung while taking horses to the market at night to sell them. Others are sung by a person named mago (umakata) who transports passengers or cargo on a horseback for a fee, and some are sung while traveling back and forth for agricultural work such as weeding.
