00:00Let's find out the situation in Lawag City in Ilocos Norte that was also affected by the typhoon Christine.
00:07This is brought to you live by Patrick de Jesus. Patrick?
00:13It rained all day long. Sometimes it was heavy, sometimes it was light, that's what we experienced here in Lawag City.
00:20But some families decided to evacuate for their own safety.
00:26In the entire Ilocos region, more than 1,000 people pre-emptively evacuated.
00:34One of the people being watched in Lawag City, Ilocos Norte is Barangay 34B, Gabo Norte East,
00:40affected by the typhoon Christine.
00:42Some of the families are located near Padsan River, where the dam was destroyed.
00:48Just last month, this dam was destroyed near Padsan River, here in Lawag City, Manalasa, the Super Typhoon Julian.
00:56What's worrying now is the typhoon Christine.
00:59Right now, the wind is very strong, that's why the residents who live near the river were evacuated.
01:06Because if the heavy rain brought by the typhoon Christine continues,
01:11the water from the river may flow towards the houses near here.
01:18Here in our dam, the water rose towards our houses.
01:24How far did the flood reach?
01:26Up to here, sir, inside our house.
01:29Almost up to the roof?
01:30Yes, sir.
01:31More than 100 families in Lawag City, from four barangays, were pre-emptively evacuated,
01:38and temporarily remained in evacuation centers.
01:42The evacuees did not forget their pets,
01:46such as Rodante's family, who were also evacuated along with their pet dog.
01:51What's his name?
01:52Pat, sir.
01:53Pat?
01:54Yes, Pat.
01:55Why did you bring Pat?
01:56He's like our pet, sir.
01:57Every time you evacuate, you bring him along?
02:00Yes, sir.
02:01How important is Pat to you?
02:04What do you think of him?
02:07When I wake up in the morning, I think of working.
02:11All day long, the city experienced heavy rains.
02:16That's why some evacuees were allowed to return to their homes.
02:21We were very lucky because yesterday we talked to Pagasa,
02:26and Pagasa told us categorically that the typhoon would hit us between 11 to 12 p.m. last night,
02:34and that it would be very strong.
02:37But look what happened.
02:39It turned out to be weak.
02:41Which is really good.
02:43But what we did was we did pre-emptive action by bringing evacuees out of their houses
02:51because those houses are flood-prone.
02:53In the entire Ilocos region, more than 300 families, or 1,000 individuals,
02:59were included in the pre-emptive evacuation.
03:02We are happy that our fellow countrymen followed the evacuation process.
03:10The response of the people is so important, especially during response operations.
03:16So that is what we are thankful for.
03:19A 30-year-old fisherman from San Fernando, La Union was the last to be seen on October 22
03:28before he was taken to Bolinao, Pangasinan.
03:31He was with someone, but he was alone in the boat.
03:34But he was allowed to go home at around 8 o'clock a.m.
03:40But he was left behind in the boat.
03:43The CDRMO requested assistance from the Provincial Disaster Reduction Management Office,
03:50as well as our Coast Guard and our fellow countrymen.
03:56Their search and rescue operation is ongoing.
04:04Regarding the missing fisherman from San Fernando, La Union,
04:09Mr. Albert Beato,
04:11he was alerted by coastal towns.
04:14He was last seen on October 22.
04:17He was wearing an orange long-sleeve and his boat was white with gray.
04:23We will inform the authorities on the details.
04:27Ma'am, weather update again here in Lawag City.
04:30A few minutes before we do the live report, the rain was heavy.
04:34But for now, there is no rain that we are experiencing.
04:39Residents and local officials here in Lawag are hoping that the weather will continue to improve
04:46because they have just recovered from the Super Typhoon Julian.
04:49Ma'am.
04:50Thank you very much, Patrick De Jesus. Take care.
