00:26It's the Gaga Cut – Joker, Félix, Adieu
00:28Todd Phillips' musical sequel to Joker suffered from quite a few missteps – an inconsistent
00:33tone, a poorly-threaded narrative, and frankly, a lack of a point at all, just to name a few.
00:42But arguably the largest disappointment across fans upon seeing the film was the lack of
00:46Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn, particularly some missing moments which were widely advertised.
00:50Namely, two of Gaga's moments from the trailer do not appear – a shot of her in Joker makeup
00:55in an elevator, and what appears to be a musical number on the courthouse stairs.
00:59Also, there were a slew of viral on-set photos from scenes which also had ceased to exist.
01:04While we would never claim that these additions would make the film great, some extra Gaga
01:08definitely wouldn't have hurt.

01:16Don't Panic – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
01:22Fans of the Wizarding World franchise are no strangers to seeing scenes in the trailers
01:25that magically vanish from the final film.
01:27Famously, the exchange between Harry and Voldemort from Deathly Hallows Part II, where the dark
01:31wizard questions why Harry lives, was left on the cutting room floor.
01:46While that moment may have been axed for being a bit too corny and overly serious, one from
01:50the Fantastic Beasts trailer was cut for the opposite reason.
01:53Facing down a line of police, Newt tells them not to panic and that everything would be
01:57alright before a huge creature attack.
01:59Actor Eddie Redmayne would reveal that the joke didn't fit the tone of the climactic
02:02moment.
02:08Number 9.
02:09Newborn Spock – Star Trek The trailers for 2009's Star Trek series
02:13promise to give the franchise a fresh start by launching a reboot and giving new versions
02:17of the original crew.
02:24Trailers featured young Kirk and Spock with scenes set at both of their births, with Winona
02:28Ryder appearing as Spock's mother.
02:30While Kirk's birth survived into the film in a thrilling opening sequence, Spock's
02:34was noticeably absent.
02:45The cut scene would have helped establish the half-Vulcan Spock as a child of two worlds,
02:49but another moment from his childhood largely performed the same role.
02:52The scene being cut also answered why Ryder appeared with such little screen time.

03:03Things Just Got Out of Hand – Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
03:06It's not unusual for an iconic line from a movie to blow up and become a meme.
03:10Sometimes due to its appearance in trailers, it even happens before the movie's release.
03:15It is strange, though, when that happens for a line that doesn't end up in the film.
03:25It's not hard to see why the line blew up, as in the trailer it reveals a dark and sinister
03:29alternate version of Doctor Strange, exciting Marvel and Sam Raimi fans.
03:33Of course, when that pivotal scene arrived, the meme-worthy line was conspicuously absent.
03:37Interestingly enough, however, another character does reference the cut line.
03:48Number 7.
03:49The Clovers – Bring It On
03:57This fun cheerleading flick details the competition and rivalry between the Toros, a group of
04:01predominantly white cheerleaders, and the Clovers, who come from a mostly black school.
04:04The film was hailed as ahead of its time for tackling issues including cultural appropriation
04:09and intersectional feminism.
04:16It helped to launch the career of Gabrielle Union, who played Clover, Captain Isis.
04:19However, the film may not have featured as much of her and the Clovers as audiences were
04:23expecting.
04:24According to Union, after test audiences responded positively to the squad, extra scenes with
04:28the Clovers were shot after the film wrapped.
04:30However, not for the movie, as the new material was only ever intended for the trailer.

04:44The Joker's Dialogue – Suicide Squad
04:46Debuting at Comic-Con 2015 and leaking soon after, the trailer for David Ayer's Suicide
04:51Squad featured a somber tone.
04:59That included hints at a tragic past for Harley Quinn involving the Joker, played by
05:03Jared Leto.
05:04The first official trailers, however, had a much brighter and upbeat tone still featuring
05:07Batman's nemesis.
05:11Indecision from Warner Bros. for the final tone of the film led to dueling cuts of and
05:15massive reshoots of the third act to make the relationship between Joker and Harley
05:19more palatable to teens.
05:20The result of this was that much of the heavily promoted material involving Leto was exercised
05:25from the final film.
05:28Number 5.
05:36Gillian Murray – Black Christmas
05:38Usually when a scene in a trailer doesn't appear in a given film, it's because it
05:42was cut because of time, tone, or some other reason it didn't quite fit into the film.
05:46That was not the case for the 2006 remake of Black Christmas, where after filming had
05:50wrapped, mega-producers and world-class creeps the Weinstein Brothers felt it wasn't violent
05:54enough to sell.
06:06This had already led to scrapping the original ending for a more action-packed one, but also
06:10necessitated pick-ups where footage exclusively shot for the trailers was filmed.
06:15This created a situation where an actress that wasn't even in the film, Gillian Murray,
06:19was prominently featured in the advertising for a film she never stepped on set for.

06:26Dr. Michael Morbius – At Your Service
06:28Morbius.
06:29For years, Sony had sought to replicate the success that Marvel had with the crossing
06:33over their various heroes and villains with cool cameos and fun references.
06:42Possessing just the rights to Spider-Man characters, Sony used the strategy of creating mostly
06:47his villains, with Venom being the breakout star.
06:55The trailer sees Morbius use Venom's name for himself before quipping that he's only
06:58joking.
06:59He's actually Dr. Michael Morbius at your service.
07:11The bit was genuinely funny, and one of the few moments of the trailer that worked unironically.
07:15So of course the punchline is cut from the film, replaced with some generic dialogue
07:19making the Venom reference nonsensical, and the bit falls flat.
07:33Number 3.
07:34You Complete Me – Iron Man 2
07:35The promotion for the second Iron Man film leaned heavily into a scene between Tony Stark
07:39and Pepper, who had become his girlfriend at the end of the first film.
07:51The couple shares a fun and flirty exchange as he prepares to jump out of an airplane
07:54in the Iron Man suit.
07:55Pepper kisses the mask before tossing it out with Tony following, quipping,
07:58You complete me?
08:03The scene economically established how his relationship with Pepper had grown between
08:07films while also cheekily hinting at him only feeling whole in the suit.
08:10However, when the scene arrives early on, we are literally dropped in with an already
08:13suited-up Iron Man and no Pepper to be seen.
08:20Number 2.
08:21Now I'm Killing Boys – Jennifer's Body
08:23One of the lasting cultural legacies of Jennifer's body was the exchange between Needy, played
08:27by Amanda Seyfried, and the titular Jennifer, played by Megan Fox.
08:31After discovering her friend's vampiric secret, Needy is shocked to discover that
08:34Jennifer is killing people, to which Jennifer gives a now-iconic response.
08:44Pop star Halsey even named a song after the line.
08:51Only problem is, the line isn't in the film.
08:53Perhaps partially because of the overwhelming marketing and initial lukewarm reception,
08:56the trailer became more famous than the film.
08:58While it grew in popularity over the years into a cult classic, that one-cut line is
09:02still a touchstone associated with it.
09:04It was included as a deleted scene on the DVD release.
09:11Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

09:25The Transporter – Deflecting a Bazooka.
09:36Get Out – Skeleton Moose Attack.
10:02The Finale and Various Other Scenes – Rogue One A Star Wars Story.
10:13In order to hide that Luke wouldn't be revealed till the end of the film, The Force Awakens
10:17trailers intentionally misled audiences about his screen time.
10:20With Rogue One, however, a very different cut of the film was seemingly advertised,
10:23which isn't far off from the truth.
10:31Pivotal lines of dialogue, a standoff with a TIE fighter, Forest Whitaker's bald head,
10:35and the ending where characters raced across the beach and much more were all absent from
10:39the film.
10:44This came as a result of extensive reshoots involving Tony Gilroy.
10:48However, many of the more cinematic shots from the original cut still found their way
10:51into the promotional material.
