00:00He's not working for the commander. He's working for greed.
00:04Here's a look at the brand new Super 7 G.I. Joe Ultimate's Major Blood Mercenary.
00:31As the frontline commander for Cobra, Major Blood is at the forefront of various Cobra plots,
00:36and a real thorn in the side of G.I. Joe.
00:39This 7-inch highly articulated G.I. Joe Ultimate's Major Blood features detailed sculpting and premium paint detail
00:45inspired by the G.I. Joe animated series, and comes with interchangeable heads and hands and multiple accessories.
00:51Failure to add the Major Blood Ultimate's to your collection will definitely have you seeing red. Blood red.
00:58They say that actions speak louder than words, but they clearly have never heard Major Blood in the battlefield with his shrieking.
01:04Just before, of course, we get a closer look at the G.I. Joe Ultimate's Major Blood,
01:08first the tape measure is going to tell us that the figure stands at 7 inches in height,
01:12or the dear Major stands at 18 centimeters tall.
01:15I found Major Blood over at Entertainment Earth, and now that I think about it,
01:19I think I found most, if not all, the G.I. Joe Ultimate's over on that site.
01:23If you guys are interested and would like to get Major for yourself, I can put the link down below in the video description.
01:27Would you believe, as well, that same link will also save you 10% on anything that's currently in stock.
01:33Speaking of other Cobras, though, let's bring in, of course, the ones we've already had a look at.
01:36Here's what Major Blood looks like with the dear Cobra Commander.
01:39Here's what he looks like, as well, with Noble Destro.
01:42The thing, also, about the Super 7 Ultimate figures is that they're hit or miss.
01:46Some of them look a little bit more like their cartoon counterparts.
01:49Clearly, Destro isn't the case at all, because they decided to give him the chrome head,
01:52which looks a little bit more like the toy line.
01:55Then you get characters like the Baroness, and I think she looked fine as a cartoon counterpart.
01:59Of course, we did also, as well, have a look at Zartan.
02:02The only one I'm not bringing in right now is Storm Shadow.
02:04I think he's off right now, trying to get a piece of the Weather Dominator.
02:07And, of course, we also have ourselves a Cobra Trooper.
02:09I'm not going to bring in a Cobra Bat. Cobra Bat, I feel, is more into the later seasons.
02:12But a Cobra Trooper, certainly, would be the kind of Trooper that Major Blood would lead in a battle.
02:16As for the accessories to come in Clue with Blood, while he does have a whole lot of them,
02:20I feel that they're a little underwhelming.
02:22None of them really reference back, I feel, to a Sunbow series episode of G.I. Joe.
02:26He has the things that you'd expect him to have.
02:28Some swappable hands, some interchangeable head sculpts, and a pair of blasters.
02:31The figure does also come in Clue with a data cartridge.
02:34And I was trying my best to remember an episode of G.I. Joe in which this data cartridge made an appearance.
02:39I was drawing a blank.
02:41You can see he does have some striping colors of yellow and red.
02:43It does also have A4 there, featured on the front.
02:46A4 kind of makes me think it's a bomb, but, yeah, he's got a bomb right over there.
02:50He does have gripping hands.
02:52The hands that he has right now on the ends of his forearms don't necessarily do the best job of holding things like this.
02:56Or it doesn't certainly do a good job of holding the pair of binoculars.
03:00Why do we call him a pair of binoculars when it's clearly just one?
03:03Unless the pair reference more to the lenses on the front, because there are, of course, two of them.
03:07Lenses are the ones that are looking out.
03:09And, of course, if you flip this around, these are the ones he's going to have closer to his eyes.
03:12Here's one of the problems, of course, facing not just Major Blood, but across the board all the G.I. Joe Ultimate figures.
03:17Again, they still continue to give them only single hinges.
03:20Assuming that these are the hands that he wants to hold the binoculars with, which really isn't the easiest ones.
03:25I mean, these hands probably aren't the best ones to be holding binoculars, just because, again, the grip is so wide.
03:30But with only being relegated to single hinges like this,
03:33one of the ongoing problems that people are really complaining about when it comes to the Ultimate figures,
03:37it's like even Major Blood can't have the binoculars any bit closer to his face like this, just because the elbows won't permit him.
03:43Now, I know I've heard them say in the past the reasonings why they don't give them double hinges is so it doesn't break up the mold,
03:48it looks a little bit more seamless, and it looks more like the cartoon.
03:51I think that's just an easy way for them to say,
03:53we don't want to spend the time and produce the cost of adding a secondary hinge in their elbows.
03:58Because, again, like Major Blood, can't bring those binoculars closer to his face.
04:02If I wanted to pretend, for example, I want to use these hands, which, again, like these hands, I feel are just too wide of a grip.
04:08You can see how close the binoculars have to get to Major Blood.
04:11He'd have to kind of just see as best as he can through those lenses and hope that there's nobody in front of him, target-wise.
04:17The other accessories the figure comes included with, let's put him down here for a second.
04:20He comes with a bomb.
04:22Now, looking at the digits, what's left of least of it, there's 10,
04:25so we're probably going to have to rush along this review before we blow everyone to kingdom come.
04:29Don't pull the wires, whatever you do, there's two of them on the top.
04:31Nicely colored, though, it's like a bluish-gray, which got some blue buttons there featured on the front,
04:36ticking down 10, and, of course, the wires there on the top.
04:39Because of the wider nature of the side of the bomb,
04:41these are actually a much better accessory for Major Blood to hold with the hands that he has right now.
04:45You can see, survives the blizzard test.
04:47Would it survive the bomb test? Probably not.
04:50While he's holding the bomb as well, the figure does come included with a detonator.
04:54Cobra has made it so easy to handle and hold a detonator just because it's only just a button.
04:59It's all you really need to do.
05:00You don't have to program anything.
05:02It's literally just press the button and things go boom.
05:04It does have a little antenna on the top.
05:07The antenna, I wouldn't say is something that would be breaking,
05:09but I would also say, too, don't be doing what I'm doing right now.
05:12Of course, he does have the means to hold that.
05:14I would say probably the best things that he has, best hand things that he has, option-wise,
05:18to hold those accessories would be things like this.
05:20Now, granted, if you look at them, they're clearly trigger finger hands as well,
05:24but if you wanted to get the binoculars in there,
05:27again, I just kind of wedge them in there.
05:30I mean, for all the work that I'm doing to get these in his hands,
05:33it's not like he really can have them close to his face anyways,
05:35and you just get the binoculars into his hand.
05:39I probably should have not used moisturizer so close to starting this review.
05:43Anyways, there we go. There we go.
05:45You can see he's holding the binoculars just fine.
05:47He also holds as well the cartridge,
05:50which, again, looking at online for the description of the things that came included with Major Blood,
05:56they list this actually as a cartridge.
05:58I think with the fact it says A4, I would have thought it would be more relating to a bomb,
06:02but I don't know.
06:03Anyways, that's what he has to hold that.
06:05And, of course, you can also take as well the detonator,
06:07and the detonator is probably the easiest thing to fit into his hands.
06:09Just be careful you don't bend the antenna.
06:12Blasted moisturizer. There we go.
06:14You can see he's holding the detonator that way as well.
06:17Other things that Major Blood can also hold on to as well.
06:20Now, again, he does have...
06:22Well, going back, he has two types of gripping hands.
06:25You can see this is just a C-grip hand,
06:27but then he has hands more specifically dedicated to holding the blaster.
06:30It's just because you can see the fingers are sticking a little bit further forward.
06:33The figure also does come included with a closed fist.
06:35Probably you could never see myself really using the fisted hand
06:38just because he has so many other cool things to have him hold.
06:42Like, for example, the figure does come included with...
06:44Sorry, hold on a second.
06:45I just feel uncomfortable with him holding a bomb while I'm talking about other weapons.
06:49The figure comes included with two types of pistol.
06:51The smaller pistol would be one that would work well with Major Blood.
06:54I mean, really, it would work well with any real Cobra Trooper.
06:57And then he has this one that looks like the one he usually is the one wielding in the cartoon.
07:01It's a little bit larger.
07:03It does also have that stepladder kind of little scope sight that he has on the end of it.
07:08The original Major Blood toy had a gun very similar to this,
07:12except for the rounded end barrel.
07:14It actually would have been more forming a point,
07:16but it had, again, like that similar sort of shape from the back of the gun.
07:20Now, he does have...
07:21Of course, he can hold either one of the guns,
07:23but he does also have a holster located just right over there.
07:26The very large thing that he has on the side of his leg?
07:29Yes.
07:30If you're looking at the side of Major Blood's leg, he has a very large holster.
07:33It can accommodate not only the smaller gun,
07:36and there's also a hole in the bottom of that as well,
07:38so he holds the smaller gun.
07:40It's a little bit more room.
07:41I mean, obviously, it's not going to sit the most securely.
07:44Would this survive if I tip this upside down?
07:46Absolutely not.
07:47But then, because that hole is on the bottom of it,
07:49it also houses the larger gun.
07:51And, of course, the nozzle would just sit at the bottom of it.
07:53It would just peek its way out.
07:54Hi. Hello.
07:55Okay, maybe not get so close to the barrel of a gun like that.
07:58And, of course, if you wanted to,
08:00changing out the hands is just a case of wiggling the hands.
08:03I probably really should have started the review with his trigger-firing fingers.
08:07This will happen a lot as well.
08:08When you're removing the hands, all this paint will continue to flake off.
08:11I've been handling this figure for about an hour now.
08:14Stop that.
08:15I've been handling this figure for about an hour now,
08:17and each time I think I've got all the paint on the end of the pegs off,
08:21sure enough, wouldn't you know it?
08:23I got more paint end up falling onto my fingers.
08:25Anyways, though, if you want to take the pistol,
08:28just pry the fingers.
08:29At least the plastic is soft enough in the fingers
08:31that it's very easy for him to hold onto the blasters.
08:34The larger blaster, I think just because, again,
08:36that's the one I mostly recognize in the cartoon,
08:39I probably would end up having the figure displayed with that one.
08:41Again, it's just a case of swapping out the hands if you want to,
08:44or swapping out the pistols if you want to.
08:47Lastly, Major Blood does come included with three alternate head sculpts.
08:51The one that you start with when you get him out of the packaging
08:53is just more of a neutral expression.
08:55I can say one thing about this figure.
08:58Speaking earlier about having some of these look a little bit more cartoon accurate than others,
09:02Major Blood, for the most part, looks a lot like the cartoon,
09:05other than really one talking point, and that would be his face.
09:08The neutral expression, as you can see right now,
09:10doesn't have Major Blood screaming at all,
09:13but my biggest complaint, I would say, is the skin tone of the character.
09:16In the cartoon, he actually comes across a little bit more of a darker skin
09:19than what we're getting right here.
09:21Had they only just darkened the shade of the skin just a little bit more,
09:24I think it would have arrived with a better-looking Major Blood.
09:27It's still one of the better-looking heads we've gotten from the Super 7 G.I. Joe's line,
09:31and I feel like there's definitely still room there.
09:33There could be an improvement.
09:35One other thing, and this is only just being a stickler and a fan of the original G.I. Joe series,
09:40I feel like the placement of his patch strap is in the wrong place.
09:43The patch is in the right place.
09:45Obviously, it's covering over his eye,
09:47but a lot of times, though, in the cartoon,
09:49the strap didn't actually run parallel to his eyebrow.
09:52If you go back and look at it, a lot of times,
09:54if I can do it with my finger on this side,
09:56a lot of times the strap actually ran up, kind of in between his forehead.
10:00I don't know why they chose to have the strap covering over his eyebrow like this,
10:04because the eyebrow is already one detail you really don't want to have lost,
10:07and now all of a sudden it has to compete with the strap of the patch.
10:10Again, I feel like the strap should have been in a different place.
10:13Other than that, though, this is the better of the three head sculpts.
10:16The one other problem that I have with Major Blood
10:18is that the two alternate head sculpts are so similar with one another.
10:21This isn't the first time this has happened with a Super 7 release.
10:24I think Mr. Burns from the Simpsons line had two very similar styles of faces,
10:29and I kind of asked that question in that review.
10:31I'm asking that same question now.
10:33Why would you have...
10:34Now, this is Major Blood obviously laughing or singing, one of those two,
10:38and then you have this one here,
10:40which I would imagine just him uttering commands to his troops.
10:43It is by far the weakest of the three heads.
10:45This one's not bad if you want to have Major Blood again,
10:48like, laughing, I suppose.
10:50But why would they not, in between this head sculpt and this one here,
10:54could they not have just given us a mold of Major Blood's head
10:57where he was just smiling?
10:58That was something that the Major did a lot in the cartoon.
11:00Very pleased with all the plans that he was giving to his troops.
11:03Major Blood would, of course, be smiling.
11:05I don't know why they wouldn't have not just given us that head sculpt,
11:08because, again, like, these two look so close with one another.
11:11I did want to change out the head, though, by the way.
11:13Just a case of holding on to the torso.
11:15Now, previous to this review and hitting the record,
11:18I actually just heated the heads in hot water.
11:20Not the whole head, just like the bottom socket of this.
11:23You can also use a hairdryer as well.
11:25I mean, a hairdryer's a little cleaner, a lot less things to dry up.
11:28Obviously, we're just going to pop the head off the ball joint.
11:30Here we go.
11:31And we're going to replace it with this head sculpt.
11:33Now, truth be told...
11:35Oh, I just dropped the head.
11:36Truth be told...
11:37There we go.
11:38Truth be told...
11:39Third time saying that.
11:41The head is still a hard thing to pop back in place.
11:44I suppose, actually, just before I popped it back,
11:46I wanted to actually show you one other thing, too.
11:48This has only happened with a few times that I've changed out these heads.
11:52Can I pop this back off?
11:54There we go.
11:55If you look at the back of the neck,
11:56see how it's now starting to shred the plastic?
11:59The problem with it, though,
12:00is if you're looking at the back of Major's head,
12:02you can see that the hair sticks down like this.
12:04When you're putting it on here,
12:05it seems to continue to wear down the plastic on the back of the neck.
12:09The first time I spotted this, I said,
12:11OK, I'm just going to have to be a little bit more careful.
12:13But it seems every time that I try to put this back down,
12:16it ends up always rubbing down the plastic at the back of the neck.
12:19Now, you could make the argument that once you get the head in place...
12:23Can we get this back in place?
12:24Once you get the head in place,
12:26you're never going to really see that anyways.
12:28I mean, obviously, if you look really close to the back of the neck,
12:31you may be able to see a little bit of that wear of plastic.
12:34But if you're looking at front and center,
12:36you never would be any bit the wiser.
12:38One of the other things I also did want to say about Major Blood
12:41is while the helmet's pretty close,
12:42sometimes it does vary in the cartoon
12:44where it looks a little bit more of a bluish gray.
12:46It looks OK. It looks OK.
12:47The only thing...
12:48The one thing I did do, though,
12:49is I heated this with a hairdryer.
12:51And I originally liked the helmet was a little bit closer to his face.
12:54I tried my best to soften up the plastic.
12:57And I just pried this out just a little bit.
13:00And then I tried to let this cool.
13:02The reasoning why I did that, though,
13:04is like in the cartoon,
13:05a lot of times Major Blood's helmet kind of stuck out.
13:08It wasn't so close to his head like this.
13:10Now, again, you could do the same thing,
13:11just heat this up with a hairdryer.
13:13I haven't really done it as much with this portrait yet.
13:15Heat it up just a little bit,
13:17soften up that plastic,
13:18and see if you can bring the helmet out just a little bit more.
13:20Because he definitely had a very unique helmet design to it.
13:23It's not stroking the Major's helmet.
13:26As for the details for the rest of the figure's body,
13:28pretty close to the cartoon, I feel.
13:30Of course, you've got the main majority of his costume
13:32being all solely brown.
13:34Of course, he's got the armor piece there on the front there in gray.
13:37The same grays also carry over down to the holster
13:39and the boots down as well.
13:41Now, in the original toy for Major Blood,
13:43he would have had a cybernetic or robotic arm
13:46that only would have been done in all black plastic.
13:49Obviously, though, in the cartoon,
13:50Major's robotic arm was a little bit more interesting to look at.
13:53So the gray also matches the front of his armor.
13:55And it also has, of course, that lighter gray
13:57that they've used for the hands,
13:59the little panel striping here,
14:00and also the bands around his bicep.
14:02Nice little details.
14:03He doesn't also lose any bit of the articulation,
14:05so while still forfeiting that one additional joint in the elbow,
14:09he has the same on this side as well.
14:11I believe, from what I remember,
14:12the original Major Blood didn't have any articulation in the elbow.
14:15It was just basically...
14:16It was just all really moving only from the shoulder up the top.
14:19Speaking of things that are moving on Major...
14:21Stop that.
14:22Head's gonna be on a ball joint,
14:23so it allows the head to rotate all the way around.
14:25The head can look down only by just a little bit.
14:27It can also look up,
14:28and you can also move it back and forth as well.
14:30Ha ha ha ha!
14:31As for the arms, they all rotate all the way around.
14:34Whether you use this arm or whether you use this arm,
14:38the arm's gonna work the exact same way and hinge the same way.
14:41The figure does have a bicep swivel right here.
14:44The figure does also have a bicep swivel here.
14:45Single hinges in the elbows.
14:47Once again, still wish that they could have incorporated double hinges,
14:50especially for characters that have to hold binoculars
14:52and see what's going on in the battlefield.
14:53You just can't do that with Major Blood.
14:57What you can do, though,
14:58is the figure does have swivels in his hands.
15:00They just rotate all the way around.
15:01The figure has...
15:02I keep wanting to think that this is a ball joint,
15:04and I keep feeling like it's only just a swivel.
15:06It only allows the torso to rotate back and forth.
15:09There's no upper torso crunch or anything like that,
15:11but they likely did that just to, again,
15:13give us the look of the seamless body.
15:16Legs split out.
15:17You can take, as well, the legs, move forward, move them back.
15:20The figure doesn't have a bit of a...
15:22a little bit of a drop on a thigh,
15:23but I think it's only more just the way it's been assembled.
15:25It's mostly just, again, splits, forward and back motion,
15:28and a little bit of a swivel at the top of the thigh.
15:30Still, again, only single hinges in the knees.
15:32It doesn't really allow the knees to rotate much down below here,
15:36so I wouldn't really recommend turning it.
15:38You can most definitely, though,
15:39turn the boot back and forth,
15:40an ankle pivot up and down,
15:42and an ankle rocker, as well.
15:44It's also good to note, as well,
15:45that the characters all do have peggles and bombs at their feet.
15:48That even includes the Baroness, as well.
15:50Even though Super 7 still denies collectors display stands
15:53with their figure lines,
15:54at the very least, you can still at least
15:57use a display stand from another figure company.
16:00All in all, though,
16:01I think Major Blood is a nice welcomed addition
16:03to my very growing army of Cobra.
16:05In fact, I think we're still beating out G.I. Joe by quite a lot.
16:08Only omitted here in this review
16:10was Storm Shadow and the Cobra Bats,
16:13but, again, we'll bring in all the other ones.
16:14I didn't bring in, also, the Baroness from the M.A.S.S. device,
16:18the all-blue Baroness.
16:19I kind of prefer the gray Baroness more myself.
16:22But I think, like, Major Blood leans a little bit more
16:24to being cartoon-accurate than, you know, not cartoon-accurate.
16:27I think still the best, one of the best figures
16:29we've still gotten from Cobra, ironically enough,
16:31is a Cobra Trooper.
16:33And, again, looks the most like the cartoon.
16:35Some of them have been hit-or-misses.
16:36Like, I wish his R-10 was a little bit better.
16:38I wish that really Destro could have had more cartoon accuracy
16:41in his dome and been more matte gray
16:43as opposed to the shinier chrome.
16:45Major Blood's okay.
16:46I think the only thing I would have said for Major Blood
16:48is just the skin tone was way off.
16:51At least we can say for this wave
16:53that the head sculpts are painted,
16:55unlike the earlier wave.
16:56The wave that had the Flint and the Lady J,
16:59those were ones that...
17:00I mean, of all the ones that we were getting
17:02from Super 7 for the G.I. Joe Ultimates,
17:03those would be the ones I wanted the most
17:05to look like the cartoons.
17:07With them not painting the head sculpts,
17:09they were really a bit of a letdown.
17:10Major Blood at least can say his head sculpt is painted.
17:13The only thing about it, though,
17:14is that his skin tone, I think,
17:15is way off to the way he looks in the cartoon.
17:18In the cartoon, there's much more of a darker tone of tan,
17:21unlike with the more paler complexion
17:23that we're getting here with the figure release of him.
17:25I'm not really sure how comfortable I feel
17:27looking at a guy that's laughing
17:28with a ticking time bomb in one of his hands.
17:30Speaking of that bomb in his hand,
17:32I couldn't help but notice
17:33it's developed looseness in the wrist.
17:35So if you're looking to have him holding it out,
17:37you may want to even have him holding it
17:39with both his hands instead of just the one.
17:41Of course, he can only hold it with one
17:43because the other one has his trademark blaster in his hand,
17:45very much like the blaster he has in the cartoon,
17:47very much like the blaster he had
17:49in the original G.I. Joe toy line.
17:51Major Blood looks, for the most part, like the part.
17:54The only thing about it, though, is, again,
17:55I feel like the skin tone is off on the character.
17:58I mean, it's not as disappointing for me
18:00as maybe when we got Destro.
18:01I know a lot of people like the Destro.
18:03I would have preferred, if this is, again,
18:05cartoon accuracy all key,
18:07then really Destro should have had
18:09a regular matted gray head sculpt
18:11with shinier marks all etched in there.
18:13I mean, truth be told, I mean, also,
18:14Cobra Commander never had that either.
18:16I really was really hoping that he could have had
18:18a parted line down the middle of his dome mask
18:20and then he could have had the little scribble lines
18:22that he has on the sides in the cartoon,
18:24but Major Blood looks a little bit more cartoon accurate,
18:27and that's still a good thing.
18:29I wish, though, that the head could have been painted better,
18:31but unlike Flint and Lady J,
18:33who still is the victims of poor paint jobs from Super 7,
18:37at least Major Blood had a painted head.
18:39Whether you decide to go with the laughing,
18:41screaming face, whatever he's doing right now,
18:43or you want to go with the neutral expression,
18:45I think those are the best of the three options available.
18:48That last head, not only does it look off for me,
18:51I mean, the placement of the patched strap,
18:54for one thing, is a big issue for me.
18:56I don't know why that's bothering me so much,
18:58but when you're having two heads so close to one another like that,
19:00why would they not have just given him
19:02a third, very unique expression,
19:04like a smiling face?
19:06That would have been an ideal candidate
19:08for displaying the Major on my shelf.
19:10Ultimately, though, that head's going to go back
19:12in the package in favor of either the one
19:14that you're looking at right now,
19:16or the one that you looked at at the beginning of this review.
