00:00All right.
00:01Gator received yesterday.
00:02I go first today.
00:03On your mark, get set, go.
00:04All right.
00:05Here we go.
00:06Doug, question number one.
00:07Mac Jones, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Kenny Pickett, Trey Lance, and now Anthony Richardson,
00:11some of the young quarterbacks recently that have lost their jobs completely or have been
00:16benched.
00:17Does the NFL have a quarterback development problem?
00:20No.
00:21I think the problem's the same as it's always been.
00:22It's really hard to identify which guys are going to be able to make it work and which
00:26guys won't.
00:27The theory is the physical tools can be identified.
00:30You can see who's got arm strength and who can run and who throws an accurate ball and
00:35who can spin it, but it's much harder to identify the things that really, I think, set you apart
00:41from the pack.
00:42And that's the ability to process information quickly and act on that information, desire,
00:47heart, toughness.
00:49And I think those things drive this.
00:51So many first-round picks have a ton of talent.
00:53They have a ton of talent.
00:54But there are other things that lead to success and failure.
00:57And a lot of it has to do with matching the quarterback skill set with the system they're
01:01in.
01:02So I think it's the same as it's always been.
01:03You go back and there's always guys that fail.
01:04Yeah.
01:05I kind of agree with Doug.
01:06I think the key to development is giving the quarterback a chance.
01:09You've got to have weapons to work with.
01:11Be nice to step into a situation where there's an offensive line that's going to protect
01:14you.
01:15Or if you have a running game, that helps with the play-action passing.
01:19Or if you've got receivers to throw to.
01:20And a lot of these guys did not have that situation.
01:24What about guys like C.J. Stroud or Brock Purdy or Jaden Daniels or Caleb Johnson or
01:28Caleb Williams?
01:29Those guys have all gotten off to pretty good starts to their career.
01:33And it's not a development issue.
01:36It's an issue about setting them up for success when they get into the league.
01:38Yeah.
01:39I disagree with you guys.
01:40I think that the NFL does have a developmental issue with the young quarterbacks.
01:43And I think it's because they're rushing them too much.
01:45You have special guys.
01:46You have C.J. Stroud.
01:47You have Jaden Daniels.
01:50That's going to happen.
01:51The exceptions to the rules, I call them.
01:52But I think Tom Brady might have been right.
01:54I think we have a lot younger coaches now.
01:57And these younger coaches are more impatient than the older coaches that preceded them.
02:02Back in the day, and I don't even think it's that far back in the day, you used to draft
02:06a young quarterback and you would sit him.
02:08And he would sit and watch and learn.
02:10And I don't think that really happens much anymore.
02:12So you're going to get guys like Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, Zach Wilson, whatever,
02:16get thrown to the fire.
02:17And they're not going to be set up to succeed.
02:19So I just think they do have a developmental problem.
02:22Back in the day, guys got thrown in the fire right away too, though.
02:24The class of 83 quarterbacks, all those guys started right away.
02:27So I don't know if I agree with that.
02:29You don't have to agree with it.
02:30It's my answer.
02:31Oh.
02:32Which quarterbacks, being the quarterbacks that has lost his job, but you still strongly
02:36believe in?
02:37For me, it's Justin Fields.
02:39I always have.
02:41He's a problem for defenses because of his strong arm and because he can run almost as
02:45well as anybody else in the league.
02:47Like the previous question, he needs to go to a team that can give him the tools to success.
02:55If he had gone to the Minnesota Vikings, the Vikings would be a real problem in the NFL.
03:01People think they already are with Sam Darnold, and they're not because Sam Darnold's terrible.
03:05But if Justin Fields were in Minnesota, they'd be killing it right now because he'd have
03:09weapons to throw to, an offensive line that can protect him, and they've got a running
03:13game.
03:15That's been my guy.
03:16And unfortunately, he's gone to a team where they already brought a quarterback in there
03:21that they envisioned to be the starter, and he was hurt to start the season.
03:24Quarterback reclamation projects is going to become the new hot mess with Baker Mayfield
03:28and Sam Darnold.
03:29And I think Mac Jones, I like Justin Fields, but I also like Mac Jones and putting them
03:33in the right situation.
03:35Like Malik Willis went to Green Bay, and I was a big Malik Willis fan, but I'm not dumb
03:40here.
03:41He's got all kinds of weapons now.
03:43So I think I put Mac Jones in the right situation.
03:46I'd like to see him get another shot.
03:48So I mean, you guys probably know where I'm going with this because I feel like I have
03:51to.
03:52I'm going to have to stick with Anthony Richardson.
03:53I mean, I, you know, I hitched onto him really early.
03:56And at this point, I think it's really too early to just say, hey, he's done.
03:59I actually agree with the benching, though, goes back to my earlier point.
04:02I think he needs time to watch and, you know, and learn the game a little bit more.
04:06His issue was the guy had like zero starts going into the NFL.
04:11He was barely starting like high school and then college had very low, limited amount
04:15of starts.
04:16I look at guys like kind of similar to him, like a bigger quarterback that can run with
04:19nice arms.
04:20Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts.
04:22They were 52% complacent percentages their rookie years, OK?
04:25They took big leaps the following year.
04:27The issue with Richardson is he did not take a big leap the following year.
04:31He actually went backwards in complacent percentage.
04:33I think that he needs to take a step back, really learn how to play the position.
04:38And hopefully he still has, you know, he's a very young quarterback.
04:40He still has time to learn and play and play the passing game because physically he can
04:44run and he has the arm strength and he's tired.
04:46Yeah, that's not a good look.
04:48All right, Jags, Browns, Jets or Raiders, which two and six AFC team has the best chance
04:55to still make the playoffs?
04:57What a horrifically impossible question.
05:01Somebody's process of elimination.
05:02It's not the Jets because Aaron Rodgers full stop.
05:05The Browns have the third toughest schedule the rest of the way.
05:07And I don't believe in Jameis.
05:09So that leaves me with the Jags or the Raiders.
05:11And I'm going to go with the Jags and our guy Trevor Lawrence.
05:14I'll give them the best chance to turn it around.
05:17Although I'm not completely stoked about this answer, none of the answers would make me
05:21stoked.
05:22I like the way you answered it.
05:23I agree with you.
05:24King's a jerk for putting this question out there.
05:27But the way they're constructed right now, like right now, I'd say it's the Browns because
05:31of their defense and also having Jameis Winston a quarterback.
05:34I feel not completely the opposite of you, but I think he's more of a plus thing is a
05:39minus quarterback in this league.
05:42And look, he got the team a W, the A to W last week, unfortunately, for the Browns are
05:46likely to be sellers in 72 hours.
05:49So that could disrupt the whole thing.
05:51But like I said, it's constructed right now.
05:53I'd go the Browns.
05:54Yeah, maybe not.
05:55But if they if they pull a win off this weekend, Gator, they could still stick with it.
05:59And I think the thing is, the thing is, the odds aren't in the favor of any of these teams,
06:03of course.
06:04It might happen.
06:05And teams don't give up if they pull out a win this week, especially for these teams.
06:09They're not going to sell.
06:10I think my lean was Jets or Jags.
06:14I'm going to end up going to Jets with three different teams here.
06:16And I'm just going with the Jets because Rogers, although he doesn't look the same and isn't
06:19the same, he does have the resume of being able to do it.
06:23I thought about Trevor Lawrence in the Jags, but I just I don't I think, like I said a
06:26few weeks ago, he might be the best worst quarterback in the league.
06:29Like he got this huge contract, but I don't know if he's deserving of it at all.
06:32Rogers, they got his boy, Devante Adams.
06:34They do have a good defense over there.
06:35If I had to pick one of these terrible teams, I'm going to go with the Jets.
06:40All right, the Bears, they lost on a hail Mary last week.
06:44Is losing by luck worse than losing by skill?
06:47You know, for example, like a methodical game winning drive.
06:49Obviously, you don't want to lose, period.
06:52It sucks either way.
06:53This is another one of these difficult questions.
06:54This is why you're good at what you do.
06:57I think losing by luck gives you false hope.
07:01I think losing to a methodical drive shows that you need to get better.
07:04So I'd rather lose because I know what my deficiency deficiencies are, as opposed to
07:09thinking that, oh, we just, you know, we're so much better than what we are.
07:12I'm not.
07:13It's I think it's it's just getting drubbed.
07:16Interesting.
07:17I think losing by luck is way easier to lose by because.
07:23I'll tell you what's going on every single team this week.
07:26They're all practicing the hail Mary defense.
07:29That's one thing you got to correct.
07:31When you give up a long methodical drive, chances are a number of things need corrections.
07:37So I'll go with the one problem to fix, as opposed to a number of problems to fix.
07:42Yeah, you know, clearly both ways, you know, losing is, you know, just sucks in general.
07:47But if I had to choose, I think I'd just rather lose straight up a hail Mary.
07:51It seems just the worst.
07:52I mean, a lot of us, I know we made fun of the Bears defensive back celebrating.
07:57I'm sure a lot of fans were celebrating as well.
08:00I mean, the difference is they're not playing and then they have to still have a responsibility
08:03to stop the final play.
08:05But that game was over.
08:06There's no reason that should have happened.
08:09And it did happen.
08:10And I think if you beat me straight up, I think I can hold my head high and be like,
08:13we gave it our best effort.
08:14It wasn't some kind of, you know, lucky bounce or anything like that.
08:18Hail Mary.
08:19Although it's fun because I enjoy walk offs in any sport as the losing team that's got
08:23to suck.
08:24All right, guys, it's Halloween.
08:28What team or player has tricked you this year and what team or player has actually been
08:32a treat?
08:33OK, I don't have any affinity towards this team, but I think the commanders are a fun
08:37watch.
08:38They are the treat for the trick.
08:39I went deep and I just decided I'm going wishful thinking.
08:44I'm going wishful thinking.
08:48The person that tricked me was last Thanksgiving.
08:50Jordan Love tricked me.
08:52Jordan Love has thrown a league high nine interceptions in six games, nine.
08:59The guys he's tied with have played seven and eight games.
09:02He's only played six.
09:04So there it is.
09:06That's the guy that tricked me.
09:08For a trick, I'm going to go with San Francisco.
09:10I think we all thought the Niners are going to be a better team this year and they've
09:13gotten beat up with injuries, but everybody's got to deal with injuries.
09:16They still have the quarterback.
09:17They still have a receiver and the running back that came in in place of Christian McCaffrey
09:22has been really good.
09:24So it sounds like an excuse with the injuries.
09:27So I'll just revert to the fact they are four and four.
09:29It's disappointing.
09:30It's the team that made it to the Super Bowl last year and they don't look very good right
09:33now for the treat.
09:35I'm going to agree.
09:36It's Washington.
09:37I love Jaden Daniels going into the draft.
09:39He would have been my number one quarterback to be taken off the board would have drafted
09:42him first overall.
09:43I love him and he's done nothing to say otherwise.
09:46He's been better than advertised and their defense is pretty good too.
09:50It's a fun team to watch in Washington right now and I have never liked watching Washington
09:54play, but with Jaden Daniels there, I do know the commanders and Jaden Daniels has, has
09:59been a pleasant surprise for if you're a commander's fan.
10:02I don't have a horse in the race either, Doug, but I went with, I dug a little deeper here
10:06for the treat.
10:07I went with the Arizona Cardinals.
10:08Okay.
10:09I thought honestly they'd have a top five pick at the end of this season.
10:13I think Kyler Murray is actually kind of underrated what he's doing over there.
10:17They don't really have any stars.
10:18Marvin Harrison Jr. hasn't been that good this year in his rookie season.
10:21Maybe Buda Baker on the other side, but you know, no one's talking about James Conner
10:25or Michael Wilson, you know, I mean, Trey McBride supposed to be an up and coming Titan,
10:29but they're not that, their roster is not that good.
10:31And for them to be, the division is not as good as we thought it'd be, but they're, I
10:34think they're four and four right on top of that division with a chance to make the playoffs
10:38this year.
10:39Like I said, I thought they'd have a top five pick.
10:40So that's my pleasant treat right there.
10:42My trick is I was tricked by the Panthers.
10:44I just thought Dave Canales and Bryson would be better together.
10:47What he did with Baker Mayfield.
10:48I thought he could kind of translate with Bryce Young.
10:50And I always thought Bryce Young is, he's not as bad as I think it seems right now.
10:54He might need a whole new organization, a whole new team.
10:58But yeah, they tricked me.
10:59I thought they'd be a little bit better.
11:00I think it's another start this week.
11:02All right, last one, guys, per the athletic, Uncrustables.
11:09You know what they are?
11:10They're these peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
11:11They don't have crust on them, but they're packaged, right?
11:13They are a very popular snack for NFL teams.
11:16Apparently the Denver Broncos eat a whopping 700 Uncrustables a week.
11:21Coming in second, the Seahawks with only 320 a week.
11:24So they more than double them.
11:26What's your quick go-to prepackaged snack food?
11:29Okay.
11:30I need clarification.
11:31Sure.
11:32Can this include something that you get in bulk that you can microwave?
11:35Or is it just something you just pull right out of the pantry?
11:38Pull out of the pantry is what I was thinking.
11:39Hopefully I didn't hurt you too bad there.
11:41Well, it changes my answer.
11:43I've got the answer.
11:44First of all, let me just say this about the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, how awesome
11:46it is.
11:47I remember years ago going to Allen Park for Lions practices and stuff, and in the break
11:53room for the media where they would have a vending machine, they also had set up in the
11:57corner was like a loaf of bread and then little cups of peanut butter.
12:02So it is absolutely a thing, and I love it.
12:05I've never bought Uncrustables.
12:06I'm sure I would love them.
12:08But for the prepackaged snack, it's got to be the pizza pretzel combos, this little snack
12:13bag.
12:14So at halftime, we're throwing bags of pretzel combos to Gator.
12:16You know, it's funny, the Uncrustables have been a regular staple in our kids' lunches
12:20since about 2017, and I love the Uncrustable.
12:24I'll grab an Uncrustable every once in a while.
12:26I put out an Uncrustable for our little guy today to take to school.
12:30So we-
12:31The Karsh household loves Uncrustables.
12:32We have the Denver Broncos of households.
12:33I love how you call him the little guy.
12:34He's bigger than you are.
12:35Yeah, he is.
12:37But for me, we also get them for their lunches, like bags of chips, like the baked Lay's,
12:43and the Skinny Pop popcorn is my favorite.
12:46Not the smart food.
12:47I like smart food, but the Skinny Pop, I open it up and I put a little pepper in there.
12:51Oh, do you wash it down with your Stanley cup?
12:53No.
12:54I'm going with the Ritz Cheese Handy Snacks.
12:58You know, the little fake cheese that Doug can't stand and the crackers, you kind of
13:01peel that off.
13:02I think that's a great snack to go, man.
13:04So for me, if it's halftime, toss me one of those.
13:07I get re-energized.
13:08The peanut butter, cheese, and cracker crackers?
13:10Yeah, whatever floats your boat, man.
13:12There it is, and that concludes the Blitz thingy here on 97.1 The Ticket.
