00:00Jared, as always, thanks for being with us. Let's let's talk about your Halloween costume,
00:05the Ricky Bobby outfit. Where did this idea come from? And I'm starting to sense a theme
00:09with you guys. You got plays named after lines from that movie, and now you got the Ricky
00:14Bobby Halloween costume. Where'd the idea come from?
00:17Yeah, you know, that wasn't my idea. That was that was Kristen, my wife's idea. And
00:23she kind of just set it all up. I just I just showed up yesterday and put the put the jumpsuit
00:27on and went out for a little bit.
00:30How was it received?
00:31It was good. Yeah, it was good. It was a good, you know, not not super original. You've seen
00:37it before. But, you know, we loved it. We had some fun with it. We were we were saying
00:40the lines and she had fun with it. And so that
00:43I was gonna say, I'm sure once you once you don the apparel, you have to start talking
00:49like Ricky Bobby and firing up the lines. What's your favorite quote from the movie
00:52that you've been using?
00:54Yeah, you know, it was only a few hours where I was in character, but, you know, obviously,
00:58you know, if you're not first, you're last and you wake up and piss excellence, all that
01:01stuff. You got to say all that.
01:04Are you driving faster now to
01:06no, staying within the speed limits? Of course,
01:09you go fighting citizens. There you go.
01:13Ankle OK. Health wise, you good?
01:15Yeah, I'll be all right. Yeah. Yeah, we'll start, but I'll be fine.
01:19All right. So look, in watching your team play, I sometimes feel like the lions are
01:24just showing off because you can do so much. And then Bill Belichick, I don't know if that
01:28was last night you talked to him or when it was, but he said to your face, you guys are
01:34unstoppable. So my question for you is. Are you unstoppable?
01:41No, not at all. You know, Bill was being nice and, you know, pumping us up a little bit,
01:45but no, not at all. I mean, we've got plenty of things to work on still. And I think what
01:50he was referring to is it's hard with the amount of weapons we have. You know, it's
01:53just there is there is some instances where they have to pick their poison on who they
01:57want to stop and they're going to leave somebody else open. And we've known that to be the
02:00case for the whole season now with just the multitude of guys we have available to throw
02:05it to, to run it with. And obviously, they're all on the way they're playing. It makes it
02:09all go. So, yeah, obviously a nice compliment from him. But by no means are we.
02:14Yeah, they got more stuff to work on. You know, we were still working.
02:18So when you have a game go the way that it goes, and obviously it's tied to 14 and then
02:23you guys just take off. They can't stop you. Your defense is getting all these turnovers.
02:28You have the ball every it felt like every possessions inside the 25 yard line. And when
02:32it wasn't that, you know, Jameer Gibbs goes for 70 or you get a punt return for a
02:36touchdown. Is it tough as a quarterback to try to lead an offense when you're not getting
02:42into rhythm or were you just fine being in the rhythm of these guys scored in the red
02:46zone? But, you know, from a rhythm standpoint, is it tough?
02:50Yeah, yeah, no, it was. I think the rhythm thing you'd like to put together a 10 play
02:54drive, an eight play drive, you know, a few completions down the field, you know, some
02:58different types of runs. And then you're kind of starting to get a feel for what they're
03:02doing on defense, what coverages they want to play. And for most of the game, you know,
03:06it was hard to hard to do that because, you know, we knew what they were doing in the
03:08red zone. That's for sure. We had a good idea by the second or third drive what they
03:11were playing in the red zone. And and again, you know, we punched it in, we got down
03:15there so that we did our job. But yeah, sure, it was it was a weird game in that instance
03:19where we didn't we weren't able to kind of throw it down the field like we had hoped.
03:23Is, you know, the next man up mentality that a lot of teams talk about everybody, I think
03:28everybody says it. But when you have a guy like Khalif Raymond, who makes plays on
03:32offense for you and then makes plays on special teams, you're without Jamison Williams.
03:36I mean, does he kind of embody that next man up mentality?
03:41Yeah, sure. I mean, him and a bunch of guys. I mean, obviously, he had a he had a great
03:45day for us the other day, but he's always been that. And he hasn't really even been
03:49next man up. He's been, you know, a starter at all for a lot of times. And he's a guy
03:53that I trust as much as anyone on our team and throwing it to him and is always where
03:58he needs to be, does everything right, blocks his tail off the best teammate ever. I mean,
04:02just a guy that you wish you had 53 of him and your team would be pretty dang good. But
04:07he's he's pretty special guy and rubs off on everyone the way he works.
04:11You guys are playing so well in all three phases, but there's so much season to be played.
04:17Is it is it possible to bottle this? Like, how do you try to make sure that this is next
04:23week, the week after December? Because we're so far away from the playoffs. But you guys
04:27look like clearly a strong Super Bowl contender right now. Is there is there anything you've
04:33learned from the past? Is how do you make sure that you just keep playing at this level,
04:37which is so good right now?
04:40Yeah, you just keep working and trying to maintain what we're doing. Absolutely. But
04:44that doesn't mean we won't at some point face some adversity. You know, yeah, of course,
04:48you hope it was you hope it's smooth sailing until until, you know, whenever it's over,
04:52but it probably won't be, you know, we'll hit some adversity at some point and got to
04:56overcome it. And we have we have hit some adversity up to this point and have overcome
05:00it. So we've been doing that. It hasn't been smooth sailing, but it is it is hard to maintain
05:05for however long we're going to need to maintain it. But that's the challenge is is trying
05:09to come back to work tomorrow and practice well and put on another good week and get
05:13ready for Green Bay. I don't know if you heard but Sunday was national tight end day. We
05:19joke about that because watching it on TV. It was mentioned every single time. Did you
05:23guys make a deliberate effort to get the ball to Brock Wright and Sam LaPorta for touchdowns?
05:27Or is that just a look, man? That's just what the play called for. And it just worked.
05:32I think it was just what the play called for. Yeah, no, I don't think that was deliberate
05:35at all. Good, good, good point, though. I didn't think about that. But yeah, it was
05:39national tight end day. Those tight ends surely will tell you about it if you just, you know,
05:43you don't even have to ask them. They'll tell you. But yeah, we were we were we were ready.
05:47You know, those guys played well. When's national quarterback day or national placeholder day?
05:53You know, I don't know if they have those. We get enough attention as it is those placeholders
05:56that we can get national placeholder day in there. You know, I think we should go punter
05:59day. National Jack Fox Day would be good. I want you to give your professional criticism
06:07and analysis of David Montgomery's pass. Yeah, there's not much criticism going to be had
06:14there. That was that was a dart. I said it after the game and I had a pretty good view
06:17of it on the field there. But Sam was Sam was open, but he wasn't like that open. The
06:22ball still had to be a good ball. And he delivered it right on him and spun it and had a nice
06:27little dance after. And, you know, we've been practicing that one for it seems like
06:31a couple of years now, too, and finally got it off. Which which pass was better, Otman
06:36Ross to you because you weren't wide open either or David Montgomery's to Laporta? Oh,
06:44man. I'm going to plead the fifth there. They're both great throws, you know. But at the same
06:50time, we've had I'm going to throw the touchdown pass to you. Now Montgomery throws a touchdown
06:54pass in the game to Laporta. We'd heard that Ben Johnson was talking about the prowess
07:00of of Penny Sewell throwing the ball before practices and stuff like that. At some point,
07:04you got to be like, dude, stay in your lane. I'm the quarterback. Yeah, no, I kind of another
07:09day, you know, I was we had we had a good day, right? We scored fifty two points, but
07:13I'm like, you know, I'll take another one. But, you know, David David David was the one
07:16who got it there. It was it was good to see him throw that in there. And yeah, but at
07:21some point, you know, I feel like, you know, I'm the one back there. Let me throw the pass
07:24to spend, you know, I imagine that watching game film, particularly after a game like
07:29that is pretty awesome. What's your favorite play to watch back during a team film session?
07:37And it doesn't have to be from this past week, but this is there one play that stands out
07:40that you couldn't wait to watch in front of the entire team that you guys can celebrate
07:44together. I always love seeing the defensive stuff because I don't end up watching that
07:49on my own. And when Dan pulls that stuff up and, you know, he talks about what their
07:53responsibilities were on the play and you see Branch or Ancelone or some of these guys,
07:57you know, maybe make the play above what they were asked to do. And it's pretty cool to
08:01see. And, you know, and then I'm sure the same for them when they're able to see our
08:04stuff on offense. But it's fun. It really is to get insight on what they're doing over
08:08there and to see them make those plays.
08:10Jared, obviously, you guys are one game at a time. You're focused in the moment. But
08:13we all know the next couple of weeks are against true contenders. Green Bay, Houston. Is this
08:19feel like the big test for you guys right now?
08:23Yeah, they're all big tests, man. They really are. I mean, I'm not being cliche and saying
08:28that they are. We had we've had big tests all year. Minnesota was a big test. The Cowboys
08:31were a big test and we passed them up to this point. We really have, you know, Tampa game.
08:35We didn't play great. But other than that, we've played good enough to win all the other
08:39ones. And so, yeah, this is a nice big one because it's next and it'll be a big one in
08:43Green Bay because it's a division game. It'll be rocking. It'll be fun. They'll be they'll
08:47be geared up and ready to go with, you know, the reigning division champs coming into their
08:51place and we'll be geared up and ready to go to.
08:54Were you concerned at all? Maybe concern might be too strong of a word, but past protection
09:00you got hit a bunch of times and you really didn't drop back and throw it all that often.
09:05Is that something to be concerned about moving forward?
09:07No, not at all. No, there's there's things I can do to help with that as well. And we'll
09:12be better with that. And it's certainly a point of emphasis for myself and us to make
09:17sure it's better for me, you know, better on my part moving forward.
09:21Green Bay's defense, they've got some high sack totals. They're second in the NFL in
09:25interceptions. How does that defense make your job harder?
09:29Yeah, they're good. They're really well coached. Coach Apley coming in there and doing it for
09:34the first time this year. It's done a great job. You know, you can see why they hired
09:38them. And they got a lot of good players. They got a good team. They passed Russ well.
09:42It's a good defense. They've been good, though, for a few years. And we know that and it'll
09:47be it'll be good.
09:48Playing Green Bay in Green Bay when the weather is actually favorable. Compare that to playing
09:55in Green Bay at the end of the season when it's the frozen tundra.
09:58Yeah, you know, we'll play them whenever whenever it's on the schedule. We beat them in week
10:0217 or whatever it was a couple of years ago at their place. And it was a little cold then.
10:06So yeah, whatever it whatever the schedule calls, we'll go over there and play them and
10:11do our best.
10:12Dan Campbell on our morning show today said it was about shoes. Is this having the right
10:17shoes? Have you guys tried anything out? Or is this is he just is that just a Campbell
10:23tongue in cheek?
10:24No, it's true that that grass can get torn up. And at Lambeau and Soldier Field, I think
10:30oftentimes that grass later in the year, it gets torn up and can be wispy. And certainly
10:34if it's wet at all, you know, you want to make sure you have the right cleats on and
10:38he's absolutely right. It'll be a it'll be a point of emphasis for us to make sure we're
10:41wearing the right stuff.
10:42All right. Well, we appreciate it. Make sure you don't catch on fire or anything.
10:46No, I won't.
10:47Don't stab yourself in the leg or any of those other Ricky Bobby mistakes.
10:50Watch out for those wildcats in the backseat.
10:53Ricky Ricky Bobby is on rest now. That was that was last night. I am now moving on.
10:58I don't know. You say that now. It's going to take sometimes a character can take over
11:03though.
11:04No, I sure hope not.
11:07Thanks, Jared.
11:08All right, guys. Appreciate it.
