00:00Just like what he had promised, assistance is now pouring in for those affected by severe tropical storm Christine
00:06to help them stem the tide, then eventually recover fully.
00:10Which is what happened in Batangas with no less than the president himself leading the aid distribution.
00:16PTD's Alan Francisco has more.
00:20President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has distributed aid worth 60 million pesos to six towns in Batangas
00:29affected by Typhoon Christine.
00:31The beneficiaries include the towns of Talisay, Laurel, Agoncillo, Cuenca, Lemery, and Balete.
00:59But we hope that with the support of our government, you will be able to start again.
01:07From the President's office, we will distribute 60 million pesos of aid distributed by the DSWD
01:16for the municipalities of Batangas, including Talisay,
01:26where the affected towns are located.
01:28Those affected by Typhoon Christine will receive P10,000.
01:38Alongside this aid, the President expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones
01:43due to landslides and drowning incidents in Batangas, where more than 60 people died during the calamity.
01:50He also directed government agencies to work together to reduce the impact of future calamities
01:55and prevent casualties from natural disasters.
01:58First, he instructed the Department of Science and Technology to modernize warning systems
02:04and continue collaboration with the Department of the Interior and local government for timely public advisories.
02:12I also instructed the DOSD and DILG to ensure proper communication with local governments
02:20so that they are prepared for future calamities.
02:25The DILG's Operation Listo program will continue to strengthen the disaster preparedness of our LGUs
02:36for the preparation, response, and monitoring of disasters.
02:41To prevent flooding, particularly in low-lying areas,
02:43President Marcos directed the National Irrigation Administration,
02:47Department of Energy, DENR, and Metropolitan Water Works and Sewerage System
02:53to gradually reduce dam water levels ahead of approaching storms.
02:57President Marcos also urged the Department of Public Works and Highways
03:01to enhance slope protection designs on roads and bridges to withstand the changing climate patterns.
03:09President Marcos instructed the Department of Trade and Industry
03:12to ensure only high-quality materials are used for these projects.
03:16He also acknowledged the private sector's assistance to typhoon victims.
03:21At this point, I would like to thank the private sector, including the Metro Bank,
03:28government officials, volunteers, and first responders
03:32who are doing their best to help our countrymen.
