00:00The site of ruined infrastructure in the town of Lorelao in Batanga cemented the president's
00:05resolve to build back better and stronger damaged infrastructure to withstand the heightened
00:12impact of extreme climate when natural calamities hit.
00:15The discharge of rising dam water levels during storms, a better warning system in hazard-prone
00:21areas and others are among the president's orders as we hear more from PTV's Felizel
00:28Cordelia.
00:31The residual aftermath of Typhoon Christine continues to impact the town of Lorelao, Batangas
00:37where many homes are still covered in mud.
00:40Several roads and the livelihoods of some residents have been damaged.
00:45This marks the first time Lorelao has experienced such extensive damage from a storm, a situation
00:50personally witnessed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his inspection alongside
00:55various government agency heads.
01:16Nine of the 21 barangays in Lorelao were severely affected by Typhoon Christine.
01:21To facilitate a swift recovery, President Marcos Jr. allocated P10 million in financial
01:26assistance to the Lorelao Local Government Unit as part of a P60 million aid package
01:33for six towns in Batangas.
01:35Farmers and fishermen received P10,000 each in assistance to help them recover their livelihood
01:41losses after numerous fishponds were buried.
01:45The chief executive also distributed free construction materials to support the rebuilding
01:51of homes that were damaged.
01:53Among the beneficiaries is Orlando.
02:11The President also pledged to complete the Taal Lake Circumferential Road and to repair
02:15the affected Bayuyungan Bridge.
02:30The death toll in Batangas has risen to 61 to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
02:36The government is actively implementing measures and reviewing the Flood Control Master Plan.
02:41While flood control projects are already in place, the impact of Typhoon Christine, exacerbated
02:47by climate change, was significantly greater than that of Typhoon Ondoy.
03:11The government is prepared for the investigation of these projects and hopes the examination
03:16closely considers the scientific factors involved.
03:20The chief executive also emphasized utilizing technology to mitigate the effects of disasters,
03:26including the Department of Science and Technology's early warning system to alert communities
03:32in hazard-prone areas.
03:34Efforts are also underway to streamline access to funds from the National Disaster Risk Reduction
03:39and Management Council to ensure quick repairs of equipment and facilities damaged by the
03:45disaster.
