00:00As always, great to have Jared with us, and there's a lot to talk about, including the
00:03game this past Sunday, the game this coming Sunday, but Jared, as far as any trades, nothing
00:09is official, so I know you can't talk really in specifics, but in general terms, how do
00:14you feel when your front office goes out and makes a move to support the current roster?
00:19Yeah, it feels good.
00:20It's exciting.
00:21Obviously, saw the news this morning that could be coming down the pipe here, and yeah,
00:26it's exciting.
00:27Those guys have done a great job year after year around this time making the move, or
00:31not making the move, and being patient, and if we're able to make a move or two today,
00:36it would be great.
00:38Player like this has been reported.
00:39Do you have a history with him in the past, and how he has wreaked havoc on you as a quarterback
00:46in the league?
00:47Yeah, I don't know who you're talking about, but yeah, he's been giving me a hard time
00:50for a long time now.
00:54You know, the fans take this as the lion's windows right now, so they really want you
00:58guys to get super aggressive at the trade deadline, but you feel like you're playing
01:03at a Super Bowl caliber right now.
01:06Is this put Pep in the step, any move, any general move, put Pep in the step of the locker
01:10room that feels like this is some more fuel for us to get the job done?
01:15Sure.
01:16I think anytime you're able to add good players who are hard workers, I don't think it matters
01:21at what position you do that at.
01:23It's good for the locker room.
01:24It creates competition.
01:25It obviously adds talent to the room, and yeah, we're always excited about that and
01:30looking for guys who want to help us win in whatever way they can.
01:34With that said, this past Sunday, obviously you don't have Aiden, Paschal's out, Rodrigo's
01:39out, Branch gets kicked out, Carlton Davis leaves the field at one point injured.
01:45How is the defense still getting it done with all these guys not being able to contribute?
01:51Yeah, they're built for adversity.
01:53They are.
01:54We've been through a lot as a group.
01:55I mean, go back all the way to 2021, there's a lot of the same guys in 2022, and we're
02:01built for it.
02:02And certainly on defense with what AG's doing with those guys and some of the leaders they
02:07have over there doing a great job getting guys where they need to be, and I think guys
02:10are picking up the slack.
02:11They're playing at a high level.
02:12I mean, you look at some of these guys that are, you know, Jack Campbell, who's playing
02:16at a high level, Anzalone's playing at a high level, Jerem's stepping in there when he needs
02:19to be.
02:20A lot of the guys up front, obviously the defensive backs are playing at a high level.
02:24You know, I think Dan said it best when Aiden got hurt, you know, everyone needs to kind
02:27of shore up their own area a little bit and we'll be just fine.
02:31And it's not just on defense, it's all around.
02:33And certainly that defense has done a great job adjusting and being able to make plays
02:37without some of those guys that you mentioned.
02:39I mean, as a kid, I love playing in a rainstorm or playing in the snow.
02:43But by the time I was a senior in high school, I hated playing in the rain.
02:47What about a nine year NFL veteran?
02:49What was it like to play in that quagmire?
02:52It was fun.
02:53It was cool.
02:54It was probably the rainiest, wettest game I've played in.
02:58But I felt prepared.
02:59I did.
03:00I felt like we were really prepared.
03:01We had practiced all week with the wet ball and I felt good with the gloves, our receivers
03:05felt good with their gloves.
03:06And I think it showed up, you know, they had a handful of drops.
03:09We didn't.
03:10They had some guys slip.
03:12We didn't.
03:13We were very prepared for the elements.
03:14And I thought our coaching staff did a hell of a job getting us ready.
03:17Is that something new that you guys have worked on?
03:19Are you in your career with working with wet footballs to prepare for something like this?
03:24And, you know, did you do something with gloves all week too?
03:27Like, did you wear them around the house and carry things with a glove just to get used
03:30to it?
03:31No, I didn't do that.
03:33But no, I think, you know, at some point, maybe halfway through my career, I found these
03:37gloves and they helped me.
03:38They feel good.
03:39And when it's when it's rainy or, you know, super duper cold, I'll pull them out and it
03:44certainly helps.
03:46But yeah, it was something that I feel like a tool for me to use if I need to.
03:49And I thought our receivers had had their stuff ready as well.
03:52And yeah, like I said, I think our staff did a great job preparing us for that.
03:56And Dan was very adamant about making sure we were ready for it.
03:59It's pretty clear you guys feed fed off the they're an outdoor team.
04:04They're an indoor team.
04:05They can't play outdoors.
04:06They can't play on the grass.
04:07I mean, this kind of stuff, even at this point in your career, it still gets you going, huh?
04:14Oh, yeah.
04:15Oh, yeah.
04:16I mean, I've been hearing it my whole life now.
04:17And so, yeah, it gets me going, certainly.
04:20I think our whole team and and again, like, yeah, you know, we were pretty mistake free
04:24on offense and our defense did a good job, you know, getting after them.
04:27And I think the mistakes that showed up, you know, they were they certainly pivoted the
04:33game.
04:34And we were able to play pretty mistake free and take care of the ball and hold it tight,
04:38squeeze it tight, catch the ball when it came their way.
04:40I was able to remain pretty accurate and our line protected pretty well.
04:44So, yeah, all those things come into play when you play in weather like that.
04:47And I thought we handled it really well.
04:50With that said, did you hear what one of their offensive linemen said after the game?
04:53Yeah, I heard it.
04:55That's right.
04:56You can say that.
04:57I was going to say the comment about that they just they're not the better team.
05:06They just executed better.
05:07Isn't that what the better team does?
05:10They execute better?
05:11Yeah, that's all right.
05:12You know, they can say that.
05:13Yeah, they said they'll see us again and whenever we play them again at home, and I said, that's
05:18right, we play you guys twice a year for the last however many years, you will see us again.
05:23That touchdown pass to St. Brown, you're in the midst of this ridiculous streak where
05:26you completed 30 straight passes to St. Brown.
05:29It's amazing.
05:30But that touchdown pass in particular, I think there's so many things about it that are ridiculous
05:34with the elements, the placement of the ball, the route that's run because that's not a
05:38typical route you see in the corner.
05:40What to you was was the best part of that play?
05:43Yeah, I just think him and I've been on the same page.
05:47He knew where I was going to throw it.
05:48I knew how he's going to react to the to the coverage and then obviously his catch was
05:52pretty remarkable and getting his feet down in bounds.
05:56But I don't I don't it's not surprising for him.
05:58You know, he's that type of player.
05:59He's an all pro player.
06:00He's one of the best in this league and feel like I can kind of throw it to him wherever
06:04with anyone on him and he'll make a play.
06:07You know, every time you guys go for it on fourth down, it like doesn't matter.
06:11The broadcast, I was like, you know what's going to happen.
06:12You know, the Lions are going to go for it.
06:14You know, Dan Campbell is going to go for it.
06:16How much does it mean to you guys as an offense that he places that faith in you?
06:20And does he ever surprise you?
06:22No, I'm never surprised at this point now.
06:25And it means a lot.
06:26Yeah, we're we're we're ready to go and we're geared up for as part of our identity now.
06:30And when he puts that faith in us, we feel just that much more responsible to make him
06:34right.
06:36You know, I always laugh.
06:37You know, now now everyone's saying how good of a call that was by him.
06:40Right.
06:41And if we didn't convert you guys and everyone else, you know, no offense would be probably
06:44tearing him down about it.
06:46It's just funny how revisionist history works that way.
06:48And we're happy.
06:49He's our head coach and makes those calls.
06:52I think we're everyone wants to know if you're working on your headstand.
06:57Not doing that.
06:58No, I don't think I've got strong enough neck muscles or trap muscles for that.
07:02That's I'll leave that to him.
07:04Did you see him practice that at all?
07:06No, I didn't.
07:07That was the first time I saw it.
07:08Pretty cool, though.
07:09It was a good photo that came out of it and it was funny.
07:15Yeah.
07:16You get back to an indoor service on Sunday.
07:17You're at Houston.
07:18Jameson Williams comes back.
07:20Does he step right in and not miss a beat?
07:22Or is there going to be a little bit of an adjustment period for him?
07:24No, I'll step right back in and I'll miss a beat.
07:27I don't see any adjustment period and he'll be right back doing what he was doing and
07:32helping us win.
07:34In his absence, here comes Tim Patrick again.
07:37Here comes Alan Robinson again.
07:38Guys that were just brought into the organization.
07:43The relationship you have with these newer Lions, it seems remarkable that you're able
07:47to develop them that quickly.
07:49Yeah, you know, I can't say enough good things about those two guys, man.
07:53It's really been cool for me to see those two guys that are later in their careers that
07:58have had pretty significant success on their own right to come into a team and to play
08:03a role that hasn't been typical of what they're used to and to not say a word and to play
08:08hard and to love being a part of our team and to just fill in and do their job when
08:12needed and, you know, trying to reward those guys with some more footballs.
08:16But they've been doing a hell of a job.
08:18They practice hard.
08:19They do everything right.
08:20They block their tails off.
08:21And we're lucky to have those guys filling in when we need them.
08:25One final thing for me, and it's back to the Green Bay game, and this might be something,
08:28it might be nothing.
08:29You guys were taking a knee, and the cameras were zoomed in on you, and it looked like
08:33there was a lot of talking back and forth.
08:35Was that something significant at all, or was that nothing?
08:38Yeah, that's when they said that, will they play us again later in the year?
08:42And we said, yeah, we know.
08:43We're in the division.
08:44We play you guys twice a year every year.
08:49So you got Will Anderson, Danil Hunter on the other side for Houston.
08:53It's quite a dynamic duo that come after you.
08:56When you see something like that on the other side, how does that change your approach compared
09:00to other teams that don't have that kind of defensive presence?
09:03Yeah, those guys are really good.
09:06You know, watching them early on this week, they've got a really good front.
09:09Obviously, D'Amico and his San Francisco background, that's what they do.
09:14They get really good defensive linemen, really good front seven, really good linebackers.
09:17And then they've got really good defensive backs, too.
09:19This is a good defense, and it'll be a good challenge for us, and it'll be fun.
09:24Last one for me, you're running backs are spectacular.
09:27We know this.
09:28But which one's more fun to watch?
09:30The guy with all the speed or the guy who's breaking all the tackles?
09:34You know, they both have speed and break tackles, so I don't know which one you're talking about.
09:38But they're both fun to watch, man.
09:41It's such a luxury to have two guys that can kind of do it all, really.
09:45I mean, they both can catch.
09:46They both can break tackles, like you said.
09:48They both are fast.
09:49They both are tough.
09:50They both are smart.
09:51It's really remarkable to have two guys like that.
09:55I think about sometimes when I'm dropping back and I don't have one, two, or three open,
09:59I'm able to check it down to them with space.
10:01It feels like such a good play for us, and it has been so far.
10:05Does it make you feel like you're faster and you can break tackles?
10:08No.
10:09Nope.
10:10I'm not faster breaking tackles anytime soon.
10:13Jared, we appreciate the time as always, and we look forward to talking to you next week.
10:17Congratulations on another big win.
10:19All right, guys.
10:21Thanks for having me.
10:22Thanks for having me.
10:23Thanks for joining us.
