00:00The employment rate in the country has increased based on the data of the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA.
00:05This is a result of the increase of those who want to have a job during the holiday season
00:10despite the calamities they have experienced in the past few months.
00:14The details are reported by Joshua Garcia of PTV Manila.
00:20The situation in the Philippines is getting worse and better.
00:24This is based on the data of the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA
00:27which they believe is for the month of September this year.
00:30According to the PSA, the unemployment rate of the country has decreased by 3.7%
00:35from 4.5% last year in the same month
00:39and 4.0% as recorded in August 2024.
00:42This is equivalent to 1.89 million unemployed
00:46which is lower than 2.26 million in September 2023
00:51and 2.07 million in August 2024.
00:54At the same time, the employment rate increased by 96.3%
00:58from 95.5% in 2023
01:01which is equivalent to 49.87 million Filipinos who have jobs in September
01:06which is higher than 47.67 million in 2023 in the same month
01:12and 49.15 million in August 2024.
01:16While the labor force participation rate also increased
01:19which is 65.7% compared to 64.1% in September 2023.
01:24According to National Statistician Undersecretary Dennis Mapa
01:27this is equivalent to the number of unemployed workers this holiday season
01:31despite the calamities they experienced in the past few months.
01:35Yes, of course, because of the holiday season, more want to work
01:39that's why our employment rate increased in terms of both the rate and the numbers
01:45but not all of them were absorbed full-time
01:48and thus you have also a substantial increase in the underemployment.
01:53Mapa asked if the storm affected the employment rate.
01:57It really has an impact because normally the storm we see has an effect on the agriculture sector.
02:02Remember, our agricultural sector accounts for almost 20% of our workers.
02:07Even so, they are still positive about this improvement
02:10due to the entry of skilled workers in Vermont
02:13particularly in retail, accommodation, and supermarkets
02:16that seasonal workers get.
02:18Meanwhile, according to National Economic Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan
02:22the government's priority is to improve the quality
02:26and better income of Filipino workers.
02:28In addition to the storm, their implementation of Supply and Demand Side Interventions
02:33to meet the Quality Employment Targets
02:35included in their Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
02:40According to PASANEDA and Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE
02:43their projects and programs continue
02:45to benefit the private sector
02:46particularly in the creation of more quality jobs
02:49and capacity building for Filipino workers.
