00:00Hello there and Happy New Year. For the first weekend of 2025 it is going to be
00:06an unsettled one with outbreaks of rain, some strong winds and also some snow.
00:10Taking a look at the bigger picture to start off with then we can see we do
00:14begin the weekend still in a very cold air mass so likely to see quite a
00:18widespread frost to start on Saturday but actually there'll be plenty of
00:21sunshine to start there with a few showers in the north. Then it's all eyes
00:25on this area of low pressure sweeping up from the southwest bringing in some
00:28milder air yes but this is falling into that colder air mass so likely to see
00:32not only outbreaks of rain but also some snow across much of England and Wales
00:35and then later on further north as we head into Sunday. So we do also already
00:40have some Met Office warnings in force as this snow is likely to cause some
00:44disruption. So first off across much of England and Wales we do have this yellow
00:48weather warning in force this is for snow and ice. It starts on midday on
00:52Saturday all the way through until midnight on Sunday so widely we could
00:56see around 5 centimetres or more 20 to 30 centimetres is possible across some
01:01northern hills in Wales and also 30 to 40 across the Pennines so it's not just
01:06hilly areas that could see the snow but also to lower levels too. So that initial
01:11warning runs through until Sunday we also have this secondary warning that
01:14comes into force on Sunday through into Monday at midday once again for snow 2
01:19to 5 centimetres possible in southern and eastern Scotland and 10 to 20
01:23centimetres possible over the hill. So it's likely at some point across much of
01:28the country that we will start to see some snow over the weekend so do keep an
01:32eye on our warnings and also on our app for any updates. To start on Saturday
01:36though there'll be plenty of sunshine around after a clear skies overnight
01:40likely to see quite a widespread frost particularly across southern and central
01:44parts of England. We will start to see some sunshine further north but still
01:48plenty of showers moving through these falling as rain and sleet and also snow
01:52over the hills as well but there will be some sunny spells in between and then
01:57it's later on from the southwest that we start to see that change we'll see
02:00clouds spilling in here also outbreaks of rain and then we'll start to see that
02:04snow falling across parts of Wales and the southwest. Away from this though
02:09there will still be plenty of sunshine still feeling cold in those sunny spells
02:12though highs widely between three to four Celsius but starting to turn a
02:16little bit milder in the southwest later on into the day as we start to see that
02:20rain move through. Then overnight we'll see a continuation of this rain, sleet and
02:24snow band slowly push its way across central and northern parts of the
02:28country overnight still once again falling as snow across hills and also to
02:32lower levels too likely to fall more as rain by the time we reach Sunday morning
02:36across the south and still a risk of ice and also snow across the far north too
02:41and it's still going to be a fairly chilly night on offer too and likely
02:45waking up on Sunday to some wet weather also. Then through on to Sunday this
02:51unsettled weather more widespread across the country as this system continues to
02:54push its way northward still falling as snow once again mainly over hills but
02:58yes likely to see some to lower levels too and this is likely to cause some
03:02disruption particularly across northern parts of England southern parts of
03:05Scotland through the day too and as we start to see this fall more as rain
03:09across the south it's still cold so there's even a chance we could see some
03:12issues with freezing rain across the south and this could lead to some icy
03:15stretches. So once again for Sunday another unsettled day on offer still
03:20feeling chilly for most particularly across the north though we'll start to see a
03:23brief milder spell across the south, temperatures widely in the low double
03:27digits. So an unsettled weekend ahead with those warnings issued likely to see
03:34some tweaks made to those warnings so do stay up to date on our website and also
03:37our app. We also have our weather studio live on Friday tomorrow at 12.15 where
03:42you can ask us further questions.
