00:00The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability has already arrested the four officials of the Office of the Vice President
00:09for not responding to the hearing of the committee today.
00:14Another official of the OVP suddenly appeared during the hearing but was also removed due to the lack of invitation and authority.
00:22Melalee Esmora in Centro ng Balita, live.
00:27Angelique, earlier this morning, congressmen were already discussing the continuation of the hearing of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.
00:40At 9 o'clock this morning, the new hearing of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability was held.
00:48Regarding the misuse of funds, the Confidential Funds of the Office of the Vice President, as well as the Department of Education, were particularly criticized by Vice President Sara Duterte.
01:01At the beginning of the discussion, congressmen were already getting hot-headed
01:06because some OVP officials did not attend the hearing
01:10and they were asked to call if there is a chance that the hearing will be held.
01:16But compared to the previous hearings where all OVP officials were not present,
01:20today, four OVP officials are present from the office of the Vice President.
01:24Because of that, a contempt order was issued and congressmen arrested the four OVP officials who did not attend the hearing.
01:33At the same time, another OVP official, who was not invited, suddenly appeared and was also removed from the hearing.
01:41According to the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability Chair Joel Chua,
01:45they only wanted the truth, especially the funds of the people they are talking about.
01:51That's why they are trying to make all officials present to clarify the issues they are discussing.
01:58Other congressmen cannot help but doubt the motive of the OVP officials who repeatedly disobeyed the hearing.
02:08It's a bit surprising because they both left.
02:14They both have a travel order.
02:16They both were forced to leave on the day of the hearing.
02:22Now, it makes me think that there is actually a malicious intent behind all these reasons and travel orders given to them
02:34just so that they can, again, avoid attending today's hearing, Mr. Chair.
02:40There are questions that the documents themselves can't answer.
02:45This is why we need the presence of these officials.
02:49They are the only ones who can answer our questions.
02:54We want to be fair.
02:59The OVP is given a lot of opportunities.
03:02More than sufficient opportunities, so to speak.
03:06But it doesn't go beyond the legislature's jurisdiction to determine where the funds of the people were spent.
03:18Angelique, the chief of staff of Vice President Sara Duterte, Euseka Zuleika Lopez,
03:23was given another chance by the lawmakers
03:26because she wrote that her auntie is in America due to a medical emergency.
03:31That's why she wasn't able to attend today's hearing.
03:34But in the next hearing, if she still doesn't show up,
03:38it is expected that she will be excused by other lawmakers.
03:44Okay. Thank you very much, Mela Lesmoras.
